- November 28/30: Non-Restricted Safety Course

- December 3: Restricted Safety Course

- December 4: Application Submitted

- January 2: License issued

- January 30: License arrived in the mail

I am located in Alberta and I checked "no" for all questions that could hold up an application. The application was done using the online system (not mail in).

I also called in last week on January 23rd and the representative told me that I would get my license in approximately 3-6 weeks due to printer issues, so I was very shocked when I found it waiting for me in my mailbox! Hopefully if you were told something similar your license is on its way :)

Just an update from MB, I was approved and license issued December 12, called in today and my card is still in the que to be printed. They said something about the new format of the license has pushed the printing back quite a bit and that hopefully I should get it in the next month or so.

I called the BC CFO today and asked if there was any delays on my PAL application. They told me that no there is not, and it should be issues within 30 days.

My online application was received on December 18th and CC charged the same day.

Im looking at getting into ipsc soon and was wondering which belts and holsters everybody uses? I’ll have to read up on which division I can be in but I have a Glock 17 with a factory slide and also a aftermarket slide that has a red dot on it. I plan to take the black badge course this year and then go watch some matches. Any tips or advice on the gear or sport? Thanks

Without getting into the minutiae of changes, if you keep everything stock you can shoot either Production (Glock 17 iron sights) or Production Optics.

If you want to just get started, Bladetech products can supply everything needed; a 2 piece belt, holster, and magazine pouches.

Once you get further into the sport and know what you like/don't like you can branch out into more specific upgrades like trigger upgrades, iron sights, holster placement, magazine pouch rententioness etc.

But you would probably get the most utility out of being a better shooter by practicing, than chasing gear.

So I am fortunate in that I was able to secure the transfer of a S&W 586 6' .357 before the closure of transfers. I want to take it to the range so could I please get some clarification on procedure. I want to be as responsible a gun owner as possible and make sure I am following the law to the letter. So I have some questions.

1. Do I need to apply for a ATT from my provincial firearms officer or does the registration of my handgun & RPAL cover transport as long as it's from my home to the range & back?
2. For transport I have a pelican case, and I know the firearm must be action/trigger locked, as well as the case locked, am I missing anything else here? I assume also store the ammo separately outside of the case?
3. The firearm certificate must be with the firearm at all times yes? As well as having my RPAL on me while transporting/shooting.
4. Am I missing anything else to legally take my new handgun to the range?

1. Your RPAL should have come with a letter stating conditions and some other things. You need to keep this letter with your license as they act as your range only ATT.
2. Yes trigger locked inside of a locked case. Its always best practice to have your ammo in a seperate container while gping to the range.
3. Yes. Yes.
4. If your new to handguns you might find the .357 round to be a bit much at first. If so, you can use .38 special instead while learning the basics.

First handgun is in the mail - does the CZ-P10F come with a lockable case and is it suitable for storage?

Bought in September 22' and transfer just went though (end of January 23'). It's funny, I read somewhere on here to call the provincial CFO office (BC) by entering their extension at the federal 800 line. They picked up right away and said "yea, we can transfer that for you right now". Just like that.

I read it comes with a case, but not sure if it qualifies as a 'container' in the following line from an RCMP page on firearm storage:

Attach a secure locking device so the firearms cannot be fired and lock them in a cabinet, container or room that is difficult to break into.

It will ultimately be stored in a 9th floor one bedroom condominium with only a lock on the front door (there is no lockable room).

Don't listen to those other people who incorrectly state a factory case isn't suitable for storage, because they don't cite any facts at all.

TL;DR the plastic container the handgun comes with would satisfy the requirements for restricted firearm storage, as long as it has locking eyelets built in to attach a lock on.

All plastic storage containers not that different from the CZ pistol cases. The Judge agreed that the cases used by the defendant wouldn't be considered as careless storage.

[127] Both the Plano 10164 Four Pistol and the Plano SE Series Single Pistol cases do, on inspection, appear to be constructed of a much thinner and pliable plastic than the other Plano cases. However, these cases are consistent not only with the diagram shown in the Manual, but also with the cases used during the Canadian Restricted Firearm Safety Course and the practical test needed to pass the course. In addition, I accept Brown’s evidence that many firearms owners buy the Plano cases at issue. Not only is Brown more likely to gather this information as a result of his line of employment, but his evidence is consistent with the availability of the cases for purchase at a major retailer such as the Store.

The P10F comes with its own case that is lockable, but doesn't conform to Canadian law requirements.

The case is very thin/slender and you can't really close it nicely with a standard trigger lock on the gun inside, without a huge bulge in the middle which also makes closing it difficult. If you have no issue with this then cool. You could try a cable lock instead, also.

Otherwise, pistol cases are decently priced at CT etc.

MRA is saying their Renegade Rifle is Non-Restricted even when you select the 1 2.5" barrel. Sorry I'm new to guns and am wondering why this would be NR. I thought 18.5 inches was the shortest barrel length for a NR?

That 18.5" restriction only applies to semi-automatic firearms. Since the MRA Renegade is a straight-pull bolt action, that limit does not apply. I believe that the only requirement for a manual action firearm to stay non-restricted is that the overall length is greater than 26".

For the same reason, the MRA Renegade can take magazines that hold more than 5 rounds, provided the magazine is proprietary to the Renegade or only fits manual action firearms (I think the MRA Renegade actually supports BCL's 20-round magazine meant for their MRX Bison bolt-action rifle)

Been looking at a message on the online application status saying if my license has not arrived in two weeks to call them. Its been over two weeks so I called them, the agent said it still has to be printed which could take 10-15 days and then arrive in the mail 8-10 weeks after that.

I just want to know the process for getting one, I do not have my license yet, I plan on getting it soon. I'm mainly looking at something like a Mauser variant that I can find for a reasonable price. Hi All,

Finally got my gun license! Honestly, I submitted mine at end of November and just received it today. I feel like I got very lucky compared to the other people who have been waiting months for theirs.

To stay on topic, I am looking for my first gun and I need some suggestions because it seems like everything is either sold out, banned, or all of the above. For some experience, I have shot over a dozen times, mainly in America. I fell in love with AR15 style guns, which obviously have been banned.

What do you guys reccomend for a style of gun that I can get as close as possible (I know it won't be similar)? What website would you reccomend? Also any other tips you can give to a fellow range shooter.

Type 81 for honorable mention but it doesn't necessarily fit the black rifle vibe you seem to want. There are probably some I'm missing too but they're either not a black rifle or are garbage quality

Had a bad experience thanks to Canada Post. Ordered from G4C and made sure
to specify that I wanted the package to be delivered to the nearest Canada Post
(which was in a Shopper's Drug Mart). It got delivered, signed by someone, and then
sent back. Had to spend 45 dollars on insurance and shipping which didn't deliver, and
I don't know how to get my money back. How would you guys stop this from
happening? How do I make sure that I get it delivered to a Canada Post office without any trouble?

The shipper (G4C) is the only one who can get a refund from Can'tPost

I too once had a gun bounced back towards the gunstore by Canada Post, even though I personally filled out my address the postie claimed it was incorrectly addressed. Luckily I was on the tracking and caught it at my town distribution center and yelled at them to give it to me.

I suspect that some posties are either lazy or they don't want to deliver guns even though their job requires it.

I suspect it's a way for a CFO to dodge the fact they lost/forgot a file, or went way over deadlines.

If your application (for a PAL I assume) is refused, you are entitled to a s.74 hearing to appeal it. Threatening that is usually a good way to get them to either reconsider the application or refuse you properly. The CFO can't "withdraw" an application for you.

I would say the degree to which you might be up to date on the current news related to it combined with how little the 2020 oic achieved should be the primary deciding factors for you. There is no right or wrong decision, just be informed so you can make said decision.

Anyone know a good source for P320 parts? (Slides, springs, etc.) I've had a backordered grip from RSDC for 2 months now and I'd like to get a few other things but noone seems to have stock and backordering really seems like a serious waiting game.

I think Irungun offer a service where they will import a handgun for you and strip out everything except the serialized part.

New x95 owner here. Took the rifle out for a little fun ( it was cleaned and lubed prior) and noticed it was very inconsistent with picking up the next round in the mag and loading It into the chamber and sometimes won't leave the bolt open after the last round. I've tried different ammo all 5.56 not .223 as well as magpul gen 3 mags and standard steel mags. Contacted iwi and told me it could be a mag issue or a gas issue but that the magpuls should run fine in it. Has anyone experienced this or have any tricks to get it working properly before I send it to someone? Thanks in advance.

I think the issue might be in your magwell. If the bolts not closing and its not feeding properly then its possible your mags are not seating properly. To check for a gas system issue you should try different settings based on ammo type. Also (at a range) try loading one round into the chamber and closing the bolt over it to make sure your bolt is fine. Then do the same with each mag 1 round, fire and see. Keep note of which mags it happens with, if it repeats and if you can, try them in a different rifle.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that with all my mags. Unfortunately, the gas system isn't adjustable with the 5.56 setup only the .300 blackout, I think.

Make sure the charging handle isn't hitting your support hand, and make sure you're not riding it forward when chambering a round. Rip that bitch like you mean it. If it gets knocked around a bit, it won't fully go into battery

Charging handle seems finicky for a combat gun, but I'll be sure to keep my hand away from it when in use. I'm definitely guilty of putting my thumb on it when firing some times .

Looking for clarification on a restricted transfer. I mailed transfer papers signed by both me (seller) and the buyer back in June of last year. The Transfer Notification (Seller) was emailed to me today.

Since the buyer and I both signed it, I assume the buyer will just get a new registration in the mail at some point. For now though, I'm cleared to give him the firearm. We're both in the same city, so he can just pick it up. Also, since he's taking it to his residence after a purchase, neither of us need to call in to get an ATT. Is that correct?

Update time,

I am an Ontario resident and I finally received my PAL application back from the RCMP today after calling the processing center about two weeks before Christmas 2022 in which they let me know of some issues/errors that were on my application. Once I get it fixed and sent back to them they said they should just take a look at those and it should be good to approve. Officer did Specifically say it will not go through the whole review process again. I think I'm going to try and fax it over the phone and hopefully get it approved right then and there but I don't even know if they would accept it to be faxed, I'll have to find out and see.

My goal is to get approved before springtime at least, Ideally by the end of the month (is it a bit of a lofty expectation, yes it probably is). From when I took my PAL Course it has pretty much been a year now that I've been waiting. Honestly I just want to get out with my friends to start actually getting some practice on shotguns to go hunting with, that's really all I want, but patience and persistence is key.

No. And it will stay this way until a conservative government is elected. Some of the expensive semi autos are marked up but that being said, none of them will fail you.

As far as I know, yes. I’d get the card back as soon as possible, but you would still show up in the system as valid. The card is more or less physical proof of being licensed if you were to buy ammunition or firearms.

First time owner should I get Templar by crusader firearms or renegade by maple ridge armoury . I am going for reliability . (Also getting a shotgun and a .22LR semi auto at local Cabela’s )

The Crusader Arms Templar and the Maple Ridge Armory Renegade are two pretty different rifles. The Templar is a semi-automatic 5.56/.223 rifle, while the Renegade is a straight-pull bolt action rifle in the same caliber.

From what I've heard, the Templar is exceptionally reliable for an AR180 based rifle, but so is the Renegade (mostly because it's a bolt action and therefore has fewer moving parts)

If it were me (and money wasn't an issue), I would choose the Templar nine times out of ten just because it's semi-automatic, and I like my semi-autos ;)

This question is asked all the time. Short answer is yes get it. Short barreled rifles and things like the skorpion still require it. Also the feds are bothered by people having one so thats another valid reason to have it. The handgun ban is an OIC, not a law, which means it survives only as long as the govt does.

I honestly only wanted a handgun, thanks to the year long process to get my license, that's now probably never going to happen.

I then shifted to wanting a Type 81 and PCC, both are on the proposed ban list.

I'd say it really depends on how much the money means to you vs the enjoyment vs the fear/unhappiness of loss.

How unhappy will you be if you only get 6 months to a year out of it? With only the limited data of your one post: in assuming a fair bit (but you know yourself better).

a semi 22lr is a safer bet for quite a while (and also an excellent starter gun). Consider getting a 10/22 or A22 now and wait and see how the amendment ban list plays out. I use my A22 more than anything else.

There is no transfer number. It is not a transfer in the same way Restricteds get the Registration Certificate transferred. You are supposed to get a Reference Number. If you didn't, I'm not sure why. Maybe they changed the process?

Quick question! My application is requesting another picture because it did not meet the standards. Now my photo guarantor is unavailable, so I need to choose someone else... How heavily would it matter if I asked someone with a criminal record(from 30 plus years ago.) to be my photo guarantor or someone like my mother if possible as I work a lot and work schedule conflicts so it's hard to meet up with them. So I am just thinking of the easiest opportunities. Any one experience something similar.. Or used individuals who have criminal records from year's past.

A record is active so long as the person its attached to is alive and has not recieved a pardon for it. Depending on what they did and why they have not/can not pursue a pardon then I think it runs the entire range including rejected.

Smartest choice is to simply not have a criminal record show up at any point on your application period.

Yugo m48 is still under 1K. Its in 8mm mauser which is easy to find. There is also the norinco m334 which is .308 but I think at the price range (and caliber) you want your options are gonna be limited if you were not thinking of the surplus/norinco routes.

Mostly just .22LR semis. But a far as bolt guns in that cal go you have a large amount of options. If you include lever in there it adds a few more.

I have heard good things about the CZ 457 though. Its on the higher end of your budget but CZ is a good company. I have a few of thier rifles.

They're super, super cheap and low quality for the most part. Some people luck out and get ones that just manage to hold themselves together for thousands of rounds without issue but most will literally fall apart after a few mags and literally have parts that need to be replaced when you get the rifle to get rid of the risk of them falling apart in your hand.

If you want a 5.56 semi go for a Tavor, if you don't like bullpups go for one of the SIG's.
