First handgun is in the mail - does the CZ-P10F come with a lockable case and is it suitable for storage?

Bought in September 22' and transfer just went though (end of January 23'). It's funny, I read somewhere on here to call the provincial CFO office (BC) by entering their extension at the federal 800 line. They picked up right away and said "yea, we can transfer that for you right now". Just like that.

I read it comes with a case, but not sure if it qualifies as a 'container' in the following line from an RCMP page on firearm storage:

Attach a secure locking device so the firearms cannot be fired and lock them in a cabinet, container or room that is difficult to break into.

It will ultimately be stored in a 9th floor one bedroom condominium with only a lock on the front door (there is no lockable room).

Don't listen to those other people who incorrectly state a factory case isn't suitable for storage, because they don't cite any facts at all.

TL;DR the plastic container the handgun comes with would satisfy the requirements for restricted firearm storage, as long as it has locking eyelets built in to attach a lock on.

Runkle of the Baily explains Plastic Storage container is legal

Containers mentioned in the video:

All plastic storage containers not that different from the CZ pistol cases. The Judge agreed that the cases used by the defendant wouldn't be considered as careless storage.

[127] Both the Plano 10164 Four Pistol and the Plano SE Series Single Pistol cases do, on inspection, appear to be constructed of a much thinner and pliable plastic than the other Plano cases. However, these cases are consistent not only with the diagram shown in the Manual, but also with the cases used during the Canadian Restricted Firearm Safety Course and the practical test needed to pass the course. In addition, I accept Brown’s evidence that many firearms owners buy the Plano cases at issue. Not only is Brown more likely to gather this information as a result of his line of employment, but his evidence is consistent with the availability of the cases for purchase at a major retailer such as the Store.

[128] As a result of the foregoing, I am unable to find that the use of the two Plano cases, in and of themselves, constitute careless storage.

Thanks. What I've gained from posting this question is an understanding that the case is legal (this is what I was concerned with) and that It's not as sturdy as other cases. I'll use it until I can find something else.

The P10F comes with its own case that is lockable, but doesn't conform to Canadian law requirements.

The case is very thin/slender and you can't really close it nicely with a standard trigger lock on the gun inside, without a huge bulge in the middle which also makes closing it difficult. If you have no issue with this then cool. You could try a cable lock instead, also.

Otherwise, pistol cases are decently priced at CT etc.

No problem. Hey, when you call, be prepared to answer a couple of skill testing questions. They asked me; 1. what range are you signed up to shoot at, and 2. how are you going to store the gun?

I'm not sure about the CZ, I have heard that the case pistols ship in aren't acceptable for storage by law. My Rough Rider came in a cardboard box, and my MC28 came in a decent plastic case with holes to run a lock through; but honestly I'd say spend the $50 anyway and be case with a decent Pelican case or the like.

There's always deals somewhere. Right now you can get a Pelican V100 for under $50 w/tax on Amazon.

Yes and yes. It comes with a case that can be locked, and as long as you use a trigger lock as well, yes it is suitable for storage (it definitely meets the criteria as a container or receptical, but definitely not a safe). Most trigger locks are too bulky to fit in those factory cases, so you will need a low profile lock. I choose to use those red plastic screw-on "locks" because they fit nicely in the case. Kind of annoying to use though.

Ps, don't rely on RCMP web page for law information. That is just their opinion. It won't save you if you ever end up in court. It may affect sentencing, but not a conviction/acquittal. Go to the original text of the law.

"rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device and stored in a container, receptacle or room that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot be readily broken open or into, or...."

Case law shows container and receptical have a very low bar.
