Im looking at getting into ipsc soon and was wondering which belts and holsters everybody uses? I’ll have to read up on which division I can be in but I have a Glock 17 with a factory slide and also a aftermarket slide that has a red dot on it. I plan to take the black badge course this year and then go watch some matches. Any tips or advice on the gear or sport? Thanks

Without getting into the minutiae of changes, if you keep everything stock you can shoot either Production (Glock 17 iron sights) or Production Optics.

If you want to just get started, Bladetech products can supply everything needed; a 2 piece belt, holster, and magazine pouches.

Once you get further into the sport and know what you like/don't like you can branch out into more specific upgrades like trigger upgrades, iron sights, holster placement, magazine pouch rententioness etc.

But you would probably get the most utility out of being a better shooter by practicing, than chasing gear.

Yea I think gonna spend a good chunk of time just practicing with my glock before I take the black badge course. Maybe even try and find some lessons.

You only need to be able to hit a dinner plate size at 10 yards. You can’t practice with a holster until you get your black badge. The course will teach you everything you need to do.

CR speed belt + CR speed mag pouches + blade tech or any kydex holster + drop offset rig

With your aftermarket slide you can’t compete until you restore it back to factory otherwise you’d be competing in open

Would you recommend going factory and starting in the production division or go aftermarket with the red dot and compete in open first.

I just got the red dot so I’ll be taking it out for the first time this spring. Also for production division does everything have to be stock? What happens if I switch to a different oem Glock iron sight that I bought separately from the firearm and also is it fine if I have grip tape on the handle? No stippling so I can remove it I’d need be.

Sights are ok to change but yes go factory first. Open is a completely different beast. Production or production optics is one of the easiest divisions to get into when just starting out.

Yes no stippling and grip tape is only allowed in certain areas of the handle. It’s all in the Black badge rule book

When you’re just starting out it’s better to have your iron sight usable dialed in first before going red dot. Your muscle memory will be much better and much faster rather than trying to find the dot when you draw
