Is there any point in obtaining an RPAL now? Given the ban on acquiring a handgun, it seems odd that they still are accepting applications for RPAL.

This question is asked all the time. Short answer is yes get it. Short barreled rifles and things like the skorpion still require it. Also the feds are bothered by people having one so thats another valid reason to have it. The handgun ban is an OIC, not a law, which means it survives only as long as the govt does.

I especially like the premise that it bothers the feds, so now I have to get it.

You realize handguns aren't the only restricted firearms right? Like you do understand there's a whole wealth of restricted rifles that require an RPAL to own?
