Damn! That’s great. Mine was received August 9 & still just showing the initial process message. I spoke with an agent yesterday and they said it looks like they have all the proper info but it could take a few months… CC was charged OCT 12. Did you speak with anyone to speed it along?

Site Finally says that my license (RPAL Upgrade) has been issued.
I am wondering if my Pal/Rpal number on my current license changes with the upgrade? Or can I make a restricted purchase now using the existing number?

Careful how you word things guys. Last week I asked here if there’s any sales coming up on ammo to save some money, got a few people to help . Then the comment was removed as it’s a subreddit rule to not discuss sales,

Probably pretty normal. I would call the store. Chances are they haven't shipped yet and you will get a new number when it does. Very little to worry about after a transfer is approved. In all honesty though I may try to change my orders to pick ups just to avoid any possible issues with shipping. For me a 6 hour round trip is worth the only handguns I will ever own again. There is no replacing them if they get lost.

Got my first transfer approval yeaterday for a June 9 purchase (Glock 22 Gen 4) it’ll be spring when I get the transfer approval for my second one bought at TACCOM Sept 10 - Tokarev TT-33.
How do I celebrate this?
Just bought my third one! Beretta 92S from Ellwood Epps!

Same, mine was a bit later then yours but I'm still waiting as well........while seeing quite a few others with much later timelines then us getting approved in the past like two week for....some reason? I'm gonna try calling everyday at lunch and on my way home from work because I'm starting to get a little pissed.

Mine was received May 16th. Still nothing charged. Passed initial review. I emailed CFO in Alberta to see what’s up as it’s ridiculous how long it be. Charge me at least so I know you care. 😂

Am I reading Bill C-21 correctly that it will prevent anyone who has ever signed a peacebond at any point in their life from having a firearm license? Is there any way to get it removed from record?
The enactment also amends the Firearms Act to, among other things, (a) prevent individuals who are or were subject to a protection order from being eligible to hold a firearms licence;

I called BC CFO today and though they did not offer to process mine she did say she is working on around middle of July right now.

If I could ask, how long ago was your transfer initiated, and did she give a reason why not?
I’m asking because I’m trying to gauge when I should start calling. I’m thinking about 2 months, but I don’t any to waste time if that’s too soon (*also, it’s wild that 2 months could be seen as being impatient!).

I had called after 32 days and got it approved with no fuss, so if you keep track of the Agent names you may be able go get ahold of one that will approve it for you (im in BC). Best of luck to you, I wish this stuff was automated god damnit it's 2022

I wonder if it varies per agent on where they are at with their dates. I started a transfer August 24 and got it approved over phone September 26 in BC also. Mid July sounds very very slow 🐌

Update from the last couple of weeks:
Sent RPAL application on Jun 28
CC Charged on Sept 18
RPAL arrived in the mail today (Oct 19) and looks like it was issued on Oct 5th based on the date on the letter!
Very excited. I'm now going to be on the hunt for a Beretta 92FS as my first gun so I can make my inner child happy and build a Samurai Edge haha

The freeze is theorized to hit any day now. Yes it’s still worth it to buy one considering if you own one you can use it like normal, but in your case, chances are pretty much zero that you’ll have your license in time to buy one.

It’s not stock that’s the issue but the fact that people are expecting the freeze to go into effect any day. Once that happens no one will be able to buy or sell anything. Having said that. People should still get their restricted license because it could be overturned or any other of a dozen things could happen and you can still get your handgun.

Its 3 am and I just woke in a sweat realizing I forgot to get my wife to sign the back of my photo for my PAL/RPAL application I mailed last week. AARRGGHH!!!
What will they do send it all back to me or shred the whole thing and tell me I'm an idiot?

They’ll put you in the “photo unsatisfactory” pile and plan to call you when they have time.
You should send in a new photo and call them to tell them it’s on it’s way. You don’t want to wait until they get around to calling you.

Send a replacement photo as soon as they open a file for you or try to phone them, they will probably want a reference number with that photo.

Look on Arsenal Force and Canadian Gun Nutz to see vendors and sponsoring vendors. I don't know what you're looking for, but there's new stock still slipping in and consignments. You can look on Gun Post, but it's not as good an entry point.
I personally bookmarked most of these to the specific filters, so I could open these up, en masse.

What province?
Call CFP and inquire about if there is any missing or incorrect info on your app. They may tell you the status as well. Good luck!

Finally got my RPAL/PAL.
Would like to buy a hand gun, still haven't received the license in the mail yet. Is there still a chance I might get one before the freeze is put on? Which one do you all recommend? What is the process behind this?

Congrats! I wouldn’t wait for card in the mail. Do the below ASAP. Freeze can go into effect any day now, and number of hand guns are low.
Call CFP and ask for your PAL #, then go online shopping.
Better yet, go shopping, put in a place holder PAL, then call in to update it once you get your PAL # from CFP

just got confirmation from someone on my RPAL course of July 16, 2022 in NS.
He is a PEI resident, just got his RPAL mailed to him today.
I do not know his specific timelines but it is about 13 weeks from when he took the course, my guess is he was slower in sending in his application than me, by about a week.
So my guess is 12 Week timeline for him in PEI to receive his physical RPAL card
Same 12 Week timeline for me in NB to receive my physical RPAL card.

This feels like a dumb question, and probably is but I'm going to ask it anyway. Are all restricted transfers in the same queue? Or are handguns being handled seperately? The only thing stopping me from buying a PS90 is the insane wait time for the transfer to go through.

You should still jump on it if you see a sale. I think Reliable Arm had a sale few months back and they were selling them for $2299.
I think TNA are all selling NR PS90 with barrel swap for $3500.

The Peace Bond? I'm not 100% sure, but I think Bill-C21 is going to fu$k you. Even if you get your PAL before it goes into effect, I tdont think you will be able to renew it when it expires in 5 years. You need to pray the Conservatives win an election and get rid of this nonsense.

Hello, I live In British columbia and was wondering if I were to go shooting on crown land, and took a friend with me that was unlicensed to fire a couple rounds would I be breaking the law? The firearms would be under my name and I have my non restricted license. As long as I was with him and away from anything we should be fine I assume? Let me know yout thoughts, thank you.

All of this should have been covered in your PAL course...
You are allowed to bring non-licensed people shooting so long as they are under your 'direct/immediate control' while they are shooting.

My dad initiated a transfer to me last week, and told me that they said they'd be contacting me to complete the transfer. Now, my old man's hearing isn't what it used to be, and last time I received a restricted transfer, I had to call in myself. Is this the new procedure to limit their call volume, or should I be trying to get through myself?

Is this for business to individual transfers as well? The shop explicitly asked me not to call and bother RCMP as it would cause further delays..

I believe that's a different situation. For a private transfer, both parties needs to do their side and contact CFP (if doesn't matter which side calls first). For a business, they take your information and act on your behalf.
The business is asking you not to call, to reduce the impact on the CFP. It's a problem of the commons, right now.
I've called in because one transfer would have to be cancelled if it couldn't be approved. I have another transfer where the seller is entering an assisted care facility very shortly and can't take firearms into there, and I'm going to call (again).
Would I call simply because I want my stuff done first? No. I'd rather do my little tiny part to leave the lines open for people with similar or worse situations.

I am looking for a new rifle for both target shooting at the range and in the field, and some hunting.
Currently, I have narrowed it down to two options chambered in 6.5CM:
1) Tikka T3X Lite Roughtech
2) Tikka T3X Compact Tactical Rifle (CTR)
It is important to me that the rifle is light enough for hiking and hunting, but can handle some target shooting without losing its precision.
I have read that the Roughtech version has heavier barrel than the T3X Lite model, but is lighter than the CTR.
I understand that ideally you have separate rifles tailored for each target shooting and hunting, and I recognize that I will be making some concessions limiting myself to a single rifle.
Which would you choose between the two options above? Is there another option you think would be well suited for this role?

I have a CTR, and plan to take it hunting. Maybe I'm still young and stupid, but I don't find it that heavy.
I think it largely depends on how you hunt as well. Most hunters around here seem like they take a truck and/or ATV in, and aren't walking very far at all. I don't see how 1-2 lbs is make-or-break territory, especially as so many of them could stand to lose 20-100lbs themselves as it is...
I might eventually get a dedicated hunting rifle, but it's not a priority for me.

The Roughtech is great! I have it in 7mm Rem Mag and it consistently shoots .5”-.25” groups at 100yards. The added muzzle brake is always a plus!

I think you might have a bit of an uphill battle with your MP (mine is Jagmeet Singh… can you even imagine). However, if you approach your MP from the position, not of someone who wants guns, but of someone who has been waiting an extraordinarily long time for a government service that you are legally entitled to receive, you might make some headway. MPs want your vote. They might not be willing to stand up in Parliament and vote for something unpopular with their constituents, but they’re much more likely to be willing to quietly grease the wheels of bureaucracy for a voter.

Quebec non restricted registry question:
I purchased my first long gun today, a ruger 10/22. They filled out a form for me at the store, a registry demand for NR it seems. It was chaotic in that store and the counter guy didnt really explain to me what to do. Does the retailer send in your info to the registry or am i supposed to do that myself? Thanks

Did you buy the gun in QC or in another province? I’m from QC and have only bought one gun in this province and the store did the registration prior to shipping the firearm. The NR that I bought from other provinces I had to register myself.

I just got my RPAL approved in Ontario. I want to buy a handgun or 2 before the freeze ASAP.
Is there any advantage in terms of timeline for me ordering from a gun shop in Ontario or a different province? I heard BC might be approving transfers quicker? So as an Ontarian should I order from a BC gun shop instead of Ontario?

Does anyone know what the expected delay is when you answer Yes to a question in Part C? How is the review process different? Is it handled by the provinces CFO or the RCMP?

Completely depends. I checked yes to the mental health question and got approved in 4.5 months this summer.
If you check yes because of criminal stuff or assaults (I don’t remember what the other reasons were), then I imagine that would require a lot more looking into.

Quick question, just upgraded to RPAL hoping to get a handgun but didn’t make it on time. Are there any restricted long guns worth looking at? I’m looking for a semi auto .223/556. The only ones I can find are AR180 variants that are complete dog shit and built with horrible quality. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Question regarding storage of a restricted pistol… if I have a trigger lock on and keep the pistol in my safe, does the pistol need to also be in the hard case it came in while in the safe? Or can I leave the pistol out on its own outside of the case?

Previous responses are correct. I just want to add that the government has been saying that they will soon be announcing further regulatory changes to “strengthen” the current storage laws. I recently bought my first restricted guns and I’m planning to buy a safe, but since we don’t know what the new regs will be (possibly setting standards for what constitutes a safe—metal thickness, etc), I’ve been holding off for now and just using a regular locking case.

- Did you pay by CC and was it charged?
Do #1, if you are not able to see the status of your app on IWS, I would suggest you call CFP and inquire about it.

So I applied for a PAL 2 months ago and sent all the paperwork. I still didn't receive my PAL and they didn't contact any of my relatives. My credit card has not been charged either. I sent an email to the RCMP but got no response.
So how long did it take to get your PAL?

You should see a charge on your card at about 3 months of them receiving it. Then it’s usually 1-3 more to have the card issued and sent.

Any updates on current application wait times? Applied for my PAL by registered mail and it was received in Mirimachi September 26. Still nothing available online when I check my status it gives an error of not found. I know they are backed up still but figured the backlog should be getting a little better so hoping for an update. Applying from Alberta if that makes a difference.

I sent mine June 24th express mail with tracking, they received it June 30. CC charged on Sept 15 (just under 3 months). On the same day, the website finally showed my application status once the CC was charged and said "initial review completed, please check at a later date". So i'd say 2-3 months from they date they received it.

Does anyone know how long it takes to obtain registration for restricted firearms? I have 2 pistols that I received a few weeks ago but nothing from the rcmp. Do I need to register? The store I bought them from in Vancouver didn’t tell me that I needed to do anything. Thank you!

Typically it is 2 weeks. It may be longer right now do to backlogs. You don't need to do anything. Once you have the transfer notification, the registration certificate will be sent out automatically.

It's not proven that talking to them helps. But if you want to give it a shot anyway, you will need to keep trying. Expect to try at least 20 times a day and you will get through in a few days.

I have a question.
I called Alberta CFO, got through, and asked about one transfer in particular. The officer said that these have been taken by the provincial jurisdiction for processing, and they're not able to do anything with it now.
Load balancing of some type is going on. It seems some transfers are pushed to a (seemingly) less accessible office.
Does anyone have insight into this?

Are you certain it was the Alberta CFO office you were speaking to, not the Canadian Firearms Program? If you’re not, it’s likely what the agent meant is that CFP was done processing it and it has been transferred to the provincial CFO.

How are CFSC courses seemingly always booked up? Not complaining if more people are getting into shooting of course but it seems weird considering that gun ownership seems to be an 'unpopular' thing in Canada yet these courses are always full for a good month in advance.

Probably because of the relatively small amount of instructors to meet the existing demand, and the need to keep class sizes small. It took me 6 months from when I started looking to actually take the course (although it was partly due to COVID restrictions) I’d say just find something that isn’t overpriced, ideally the PAL/RPAL over a weekend, and get your spot as soon as you can

Has anyone had experience of moving houses while a transfer is in progress? I need to start looking for a new spot to live(no rush, just tired of neighbors) but would like to move before they arrive.

Best bet is calling your CFO - even if they can't necessarily help you do anything, there'd at least be record that you tried to inform them.

Been waiting to months and months (May I think) on a transfer. Phoned the CFO and they confirmed they’re still sitting on it.
Any way to get them to approve it? I’ve heard other people having success but the person I spoke to didn’t offer to move it along.

No. It's still a 9+ month backlog in some provinces. The freeze will do nothing to speed up the rate in which the transfers are processed, it's just going to stop more transfers from being stacked on the end of the pile.

5.56 NATO is only a couple thousandths of an in longer than 223 Remington, it will happily accept the smaller yet close fitting cartridges.
5.56 guns are often labeled 223 to make them less scary and circumvent laws that some countries have against military cartridges.

A few weeks ago I saw someone post that they found out they are working weekends, Does anyone know if they are only working on specific things like say only transfers or only PAL/RAPL applications or do you think its both? ? Not that I have any hope my PAL would get approved even though others later then my timeline have been like a week or two ago...
I know they are working really hard with what little staff they have but I can't help but be a little pissed off some days.

You can do as you like with your firearms in your home short of shooting them and as long as they are safely stored afterwards.

What do I do if my PAL request paper (the thing to get PAL after you complete course) has my old bank info? I switched cards and that old card I put on there doesn't work anymore. Can I just call them and tell them to change this info or do I have to send a new application?

How long after the site says “license has been issued” should I expect to wait before the card comes in? I put a deposit down on a piece and I’m just trying to see how long I should let the shop know they’re going to have to hold the gun for me. Site says to call after 2 weeks. So I’m assuming the “license issued” message means the mailed the card?

Are we really assured that handgun transfers that are still awaiting CFO approval while C-21 passes, still be approved?
The amendment seems to be on the step where CFOs evaluate transfer orders and not on requirements for the creation/submission of the said order itself. So, I'm afraid, just because our requests have been submitted before the deadline, it doesn't automatically protect them from the new criteria which could still be used to reject the request.

Yes it's been discussed to death. Here's the summary:
Current legislation states that initiated transfers will be honoured
Official word is that initiated transfers will be honoured
Precedent from past cases when laws have changed is that initiated transfers will be honoured
If they change their minds and don't honour them, there's nothing we can do about it anyways so it's not worth fussing over things upon which we have no control

The RC's received my pal application on Feb 7 2022. Late June it moved to the AB CFO. Still waiting. When I email the CFO, no reply. When I call the firearms office in Mirimichi they don't have an update because it's with the AB CFO. Canada sucks

Correction. I actually got through to the AB CFO today. The lady said that there's an issue because my rpal application was submitted later on causing a hang up in the system. She put in a request to have it fixed and hopefully soon it's approved.

Called them again yesterday and they said it's approved and printing this week. Sucks that Trudipshit banned handgun sales, looks like a SBR is on the horizon instead.
