WS-MCR for an affordable black rifle option with similar controls to an AR.

Bren down the line for something a little more premium.

Which hunting rifle have you settled on?

Definitely go 30.06 or something comparable if you're using it to go big game hunt.

It's still a far better choice for deer vs .223.

30.06 recoil isn't that bad, however, I don't think you will want to send hundreds of rounds down range while plinking with such a light rifle.

.308 is worth considering for the cheaper ammo and slightly less recoil. I replaced my 30.06 with a .308.

Ammo is cheaper than 30.06 and can be bought in bulk.

You can shoot cheap surplus 7.62x51 out of a .308. I stocked up on spam cans of those at $0.70/round.

.308 has about 90% of the energy of a 30.06 and will kill anything in north America.

If you are interested in bolties, the Ruger American is supposed to be pretty solid. For Semi, the only one that I’m interested in personally and have shot is the Tavor X95. It’s a very solid gun to shoot but obviously on the pricey side. If you want something that’s not exactly 5.56/.223 but comparable, you can get an SKS for $450-500 still these days. Plenty of fun to shoot and there’s lots of history behind them.

That’s fair, it is reloaded by stripper clips or single loading each into the rifle. I would not consider the MCR or the newer version. From what I have seen, they are not reliable out of the box without work. The Tavor is definitely a proven platform. There’s also the Keltech RDB which some people like and the Norinco Type 97. You’ll notice these are all bullpup designs though.
