seeing how americans are trying to get rid of tax stamps on suppressors got me a little bit envious ngl
half of europe treats suppressors as the health protection device as they are, cmon canada
15
u/boozefiend3000 Aug 17 '26
We do the opposite of the states. We’re not getting suppressors
13
u/StalkerRigo Aug 17 '26
lmao Canada being closer to Cali/NY than the EU is very ironic
11
u/GinnAdvent Aug 17 '26
The amount of money that I spend on my firearms, vs how much money American spend on the same firearme, ammo, and accessories. I would say it's at least 30 percent cheaper for Americans.
Americans: no tax on suppressor and full auto registration cert!
Canadians if both parts are legalized: just shut up and take my money!
11
u/fyfnw Aug 18 '26
The Americans have alot more fight in them and they don't put up the stupid bans and get them overturned. We don't seem to have much success of doing that in this Canada. Which is incredibly sad and demoralizing.

u/NightFuryToni 28d ago
On the topic of suppressors, we need to tell them that baguettes are now prohibited devices. Maybe this will sway the Quebec votes.

So since we're in a "war" with the US (as described by Carney)
The most elbows up thing they can do is drop the buyback and OIC, right?
Right?

Ankles up boys and girls and whatever else is out there

I always found elbows up extremely cringe... It's supposed to imply your putting your fists up to fight and its like wtf?
Liberals don't fight, they think men can breastfeed and are against violence.
13
u/RydNightwish 25d ago
Boomers of all political stripes have this weird obsession with knowing what trump is doing every minute of everyday. As well as making suggestions about how to "fight back" that would destroy thier great great grandkids futures. But make them feel good. Unsurprisingly.
Guy I work (Im mid 30's fwiw contextually) with is constantly telling me what the latest thing trump said, did, or ate. And everytime I keep saying: "If you let trump live in your head 24 hours a day, its gonna be a long long few years."
Ive been saying that to him for nearly a year already...

Is it me or is the criminal acts getting significantly more severe?
We have a 73 year old London Ontario women murdered in a home invasion.
A liberal MP’s car fire bombed.
A South Africa style car jacking where they stop you on the off ramp.
Consulate shooter now on bail
And daily news stories now of cops getting shot.
Meanwhile libs tell us “we need more hunting rifle bans”
17
15
u/Lumindan 21d ago
Is it me or is the criminal acts getting significantly more severe?
Cost of living is going up, quality of life is going down. Crime becomes more attractive / more reasons for people to lash out.
Combine that with the government putting all it's effort towards attacking legal firearms owners instead of addressing the border and here we are.
You could probably make the argument that we aren't even addressing the underlying systemic issues (lack of employment due to rampant immigration, strained social systems, no mental healthcare support etc).
Not that of that matters to the government, they ply the masses with "ORANGE MAN BAD" and people cheer while we sleep walk into an even worse state.
18
u/Gunman885 21d ago
It’s not just you. And it’s all by design. Going perfectly to plan actually
10
u/Late_Winner6859 21d ago
Maybe except that lib MP car. I doubt they planned for a firsthand experience of their own failed policies
5
u/Natural_Comparison21 20d ago
Now anyone else who has a car fire bombed might be thinking "Huh how can I protect myself in case the people who fire bombed my car decide they want to do more then just target my inanimate objects?" But knowing politicians they choose ideology over the most fucking basic of survival mechanisms. Like thinking about increasing your level of protection. No at most that Liberal MP is just going to outsource there violence to someone else. I.e The RCMP. If that. They might just be the classic meme "This is fine."

There’s been a not-so-subtle shift from suspicious accounts here trying to pin the blame on Trump, or on Pierre for not running a good enough campaign. As retarded as some of these takes are, the basic indisputable truth remains:
The Liberals banned your guns. The NDP voted with them to ban the guns and uphold the bans. The Conservatives voted against them.
The Liberals expanded the bans. The NDP voted with them again. The Conservatives voted against them again.
This country is cooked either way at this point, so maybe it doesn’t really matter. But anyone trying to frame any of this as the fault of ANYONE other than Carney, Trudeau, the Liberals, or the NDP is either an abject moron or letting their worldview/ideology seep into their posts.
They’re lying to you. They’re spreading subtle propaganda.
Not that it matters, but don’t fall for it.
16
u/Lumindan 22d ago
Its a reoccurring thing every time there's a large political moment. Some of them do it for free, others are just brigading from different subs (if you know, you know, that discord isn't that hidden lol). If you have the reddit enhancenent suite it's easy to flag those people.
We see the same users asking the usual questions (often laced with pp bad talking points). My personal favorite is the one where they'll cheer for unity but they'll actively attack certain people because they aren't on the same political spectrum.
The buy Canadian thing doesn't hold up too well either when it comes to firearms because the same government promoting it is also totally fine destroying local businesses because they're not ideologically aligned. Hell we're already seeing businesses take advantage of it, again (Tim Hortons, Loblaws etc.) it's virtue signalling to the highest degree.
There's people in this very thread who act like shits sweet but they were pro buyback and government just a month ago. Absolute clowns.
If people were truly pro Canada they'd stop shilling for Carney and giving him free passes (I've seen amazing leaps in logic about how Carney is 5d pro gun) and actually start asking for transparency and accountability.
Consumer debt is now 2.6 trillion but who cares about that or rampent immigration and wage suppression, it's all orange man bad baby!

The elbows up crowd is literally brain rot degenerates, everything Carney does is 9D chess and PP is worse. That’s it, that’s as far as they can think. What we do and don’t know about guns in Australia
In conclusion: Dr McPhedran said evidence showed the ways people were obtaining illegal weapons had changed.
“Even though legal gun ownership has gone up, theft has gone down so that has changed the pathway in terms of how people are illegally obtaining firearms.
“3D printing has really been a game changer in terms of criminal acquisition of firearms.”
With so many illegal weapons out there, she said federal changes to the NFR and buyback schemes were “purely symbolic” in terms of reducing the risk of gun violence.
“What’s unfortunately happened, and we’ve seen this again after Bondi, is there will be a high-profile incident involving firearms, and then a very swift reaction from politicians to crack down on legal ownership.
“That is at odds with what the evidence tells us, which is that those illegally owned firearms … are the ones that are the highest risk because they are in the hands of people who are the highest risk.”
Professor Bright said cooperation across all states was also essential to effective gun control."
Well, I guess this final statement makes sense that Liberal party surely won't be using this as part of their election campaign on gun control next time since it doesn't fit their narrative.
11
u/Lumindan 24d ago
They'll still use it, they'll just ignore the science and data like they do here.
12
u/Agonizing-Stroke1812 24d ago

I love it when people act confused and deliberately dense when trying to understand why someone would like or want to collect firearms.
Like dude, people collect all kinds of things like lighters, cards, cars, bikes, bottles, stamps, shoes, gloves, video games, movies, you name it. Some people collect things that make even less sense.
There are fucking napkin collectors out there dude. People getting hot and horny for postage stamps is somehow understandable but all of a sudden a rifle or a pistol is just an alien concept for you? Beautiful walnut and polished steel and still it’s an inconceivable idea?
Since when did anyone get street-cred for being dense?

I love it when people act confused and deliberately dense when trying to understand why someone would like or want to collect firearms.
Its very telling how a person was raised / what their values are.
Why do other people care about what I have and what I do with it? Because they have nothing better to do with their time and good boy virtue signalling is hot.
People get all pressed when they're asked why they need a car or a pool or a dog.
Its an emotional trap question imo.
Since when did anyone get street-cred for being dense?
Our current government is built on that.
Create problems, solve them years later and act ignorant about the fact that theyre the ones who did that.

u/boozefiend3000 22d ago
For some reason there’s a lot of people that can’t think about guns in a logical or common sense kinda way. They react purely on emotion. Basically the mind of a teenager

With the growth of licences comes the growth in interest, which isn’t necessarily in line with the Canadian psyche.
Literally nothing in this world pisses me off more than the political and media elites who think they dictate the "Canadian psyche" from on high, and will kick and scream in the face of overwhelming evidence that they're out of touch.
The answer to the headline question is self-defence. And that's a great thing, but as this narrative takes hold, the anti-gun zealots are going to pull out all the stops to take gun ownership completely out of the hands of the average citizen. As in, not just controlling what kinds of firearms are legal, but demanding that only people who can prove some sort of agricultural or sustenance need can own any kind of firearm at all, in order to try and get guns completely out of the mainstream and snuff out the "self-defence culture".
The UK police are making a move to restrict shotguns to farmers only, the same way they restrict rifles. This is the kind of push we're going to see here, in the post OIC/buyback era.
13
u/I-LOVE-HENRY-RIFLES 22d ago
Why do they get to dictate how I live my life if I’m not having a negative impact on anyone. Leave me alone lol. This is like so dumb. Guns have been Canadian since forever. Arrived with the settlers, used by trappers all the way to the cowboys of Alberta and BC then the gold rush miners. Who the fuck are these people getting to dictate what’s Canadian and what’s not.

I have a feeling that the government wants nothing to do with buying back pistols.
You can fudge NR numbers all day long. The long gun registry was killed off over a decade ago, so trying to accurately estimate how many affected NR guns there are is impossible. Restricted guns on the other hand are known. The numbers come out every year in the firearms report.
With over a million pistols in civilian possession, the government cannot escape or fudge the numbers and would have no real choice but to budget for over a million units in a buyback which is not feasible. It would bankrupt the country.
Their goal is to slowly kill handgun possession by attrition.

Do you remember the amount of handgun registrations that were assigned during 2022 buying rush? I am sure it's at least over 10k if not more. Someone published it here but I can't remember the exact number.
I am sure Poly is well aware of how many handguns there are, but they don't want the negative optics spending more money to buy that back, and risk generate more negative feedback in the communities that might detail their gun confiscation scheme.
10
u/FunkyFrunkle Aug 17 '26
Yep. It was a fairly large number.
They were probably told that a handgun buyback isn’t going to happen.
8
u/GinnAdvent Aug 17 '26
Good, I am glad that Liberal slap some sense into them, lol.
I mean, I bought like 20 plus pistols in 4 months so I assume lots of people did similar thing.
Someone mention that JT was the best pistol salesman ever, which for 2022, it was technically true.

u/613mitch Aug 20 '26
Do you remember the amount of handgun registrations that were assigned during 2022 buying rush? I am sure it's at least over 10k if not more.
From May 23 to September 27, 2022, there were 246 058 requests to transfer the registration certificates of handguns

u/uberduck999 N/R Whisperer Aug 17 '26
I'm not sure if this is a joke or not, but the SCC ruling in our favour would make it much harder for the libs to try and pull something like this again in the future.
You can't just reintroduce a new bill doing the same thing that was deemed unconstitutional by the courts, thankfully.
13
u/FunkyFrunkle Aug 17 '26
There’s also the very real question of would they even want to.
This is a wildly unpopular program that almost the entire country is refusing to partake in. The police are largely done with it. They have some collection points up and running in major centres but outside of that, paying third party contractors to run around the second largest country by landmass is going to cost you your firstborn child.
My guess is, IF and I mean IF the Supreme Court rules in our favour, this whole thing pretty much fizzles out. C-21 remains in place and so does the handgun freeze unfortunately, but everything else gets nullified and the government washes their hands of this.
11
u/boozefiend3000 Aug 17 '26
The courts would say the government can’t ban through OIC, the government can just use their majority to ban through parliament

Yeah the bill is probably already drawn up if they are even remotely forward thinking. They can even throw in the few new things that have popped up since the previous bans that they "missed". They don't even need a majority, the bloc/NDP would support it either way. While I 100% agree with the challenge on using OIC's for this kind of thing because it has far farther implication than firearms, we very well could end up in a significantly worse position when the liberals just sign it all into law. Then we will need a full conservative majority, probably years or decades in the future to even ask to have it removed, and we all know how conservative politicians are about rescinding long standing firearms bans (they have never done it once FYI)
We have to essentially pray that A. We win the court case. and B. The liberals suddenly decide they don't want to touch firearms stuff again (while having the nations foremost gun grabber as part of their government) X to doubt.
The only way out of all of this is a conservative MAJORITY government who also remains strongly committed to reversing ALL trudeau-era gun regulation changes, the liberals have virtually unlimited other options for preventing anyone from ever taking one of those banned firearms to the range again until that time.
6
u/FunkyFrunkle Aug 17 '26
I don’t think they will.
IF the Supreme Court rules in our favour and the bans get struck down (best case scenario), the government is going to look really shitty given how much money was spent on this and it’s likely they’ll burn up a boatload of political capital in the process. Gun bans will more than likely be too toxic to touch for a while.

Rural property owner facing charges after firing gun at people allegedly stealing fuel: Manitoba RCMP

Its crazy that people can show up, out number you, are armed and Canadians are expected to just bend over and cower.
Its especially funny they got a quote from Wab given his history.
Better yet, they decided to interview an ethics professor, someone who is well off living in a gated community, who can easily moralize their position and continue the farce.
Then again this is about par for the course with our current justice system.
Self defense is a sin, they're going to drag this poor 65+ year old out over the coals. Even just the process itself will be part of the punishment.
We need some serious reform. I'm not asking for castle law but man the onus to defend one's self, family and property feels ridiculous.

I regularly see clients out in rural southern Alberta, it's a huge issue everywhere in rural Canada. It's honestly sad to see. I have a young couple as clients just south of Lethbridge, they're only a few years graduated from university that wanted to start a farm. They didn't have their PAL and they thought they wouldn't need it, despite me and a few other agriculture advisors recommending it just in case. So they did, helped them set up their finances, etc. Fast forward one year later, boy was I surprised to see the amount of guns and ammo they had when I visited them. And as expected it was unfortunately not just for livestock protection out there as they've had some bad run ins in the area.

10
u/Natural_Comparison21 29d ago
May be a temporary blip or a growing trend of peoples views on gun ownership changing.
13
u/FunkyFrunkle 29d ago edited 28d ago
Maybe a bit of column A, and column B.
Crime has taken a slight dip on the national average but for some places in Canada, that change isn’t reflected at all in every day life to any appreciable degree. Shootings, extortions and gang violence has become the new normal. This is all happening against the backdrop of the police struggling to stay on top of it with fewer staff and resources, to the extent that most police services have refused to babysit the governments gun buyback.
Something has to give somewhere, so what’s giving way? It’s the idea that the police will always be there, or at least, close enough to protect you. We’re seeing that notion challenged in a big way, and people are turning to the idea of owning a gun for self defence. This is unprecedented in itself, as this would have been inconceivable 10 years ago.
If you told the Canadian gun community in 2016 that the idea of self-defence would be a topic of mainstream conversation, you’d be laughed out of the comment section.
The ironic thing? These are people who probably held an agnostic view about guns at best, or a negative view at worst and now these same people are going through the trouble of obtaining them for the express purpose of self defence. Around 30% have admitted as much in a recent report. Meanwhile, gun owners have traditionally been more… self-policed about that kind of idea?
You also have a segment of the population that is becoming more convinced that things are about to go to shit and they don’t want to be caught, in their minds, unprepared. Bushcraft is enjoying a resurgence of interest in tandem with firearm ownership.
The important thing here is people are individually coming to a different, more open-minded conclusion about the idea of gun ownership than they previously might have held, which is a good thing. If we can build on this momentum, this is exactly how overreaching gun control dies a sudden death.
Gun control survives by consensus. If it loses consensus, it loses its return value. It stops being valuable in politics. I would have to imagine that the recent news article about the surge in ownership, and the motivations behind it has got to be worrying the gun control groups.
They’re starting to lose ground to a growing paradigm shift in what is historically their own backyard, urban Canada. This isn’t something they can fix by just blaming legal owners more. People who live in urban centers aren’t seeing hunters run around holding up stores or breaking into peoples homes, but the gun control crowd has been pulling the same schtick by blaming them for the past 40 years, it’s not inconceivable to think that people are starting to tune them out.
The depressing part is that things had to go to shit for people to get a clue.
6
u/Natural_Comparison21 29d ago
Generally people have to learn things the hard way unfortunately. However I also do agree with your assertion around gun control groups are getting scared. I would also be scared by a increased number of PAL holders by raw numbers and a consistent adult percentage of population of 7.2%. I also imagine the number of people with non pal required items such as crossbows has increased. Albeit a lot of the people who own crossbows also own firearms as historically atleast people buy crossbows to hunt in Canada. Same deal with bows.
→ More replies (1)5
u/FireteamOrcale 29d ago
I am happy to see the number of PAL holders grow and like you said it can be a result of changing views on firearms.
I just have some thoughts like what if they are being told to post this from some weird angle to try and make it seem like there are too many guns/gun owners to see if people will get upset about it.
At the end of the day though the more of us the better because it creates a stronger community and it’s great to see people getting into the sport. I mean I just got in a year ago and I’ve missed out on a lot of cool stuff but i love my WW2 Bolt actions, MRA Ren MK 2 and others and am very happy to at least be in a position to own these and have a bit of (expensive) fun while it lasts
12
u/FunkyFrunkle 29d ago edited 29d ago
I’m encouraged by not only the growing numbers, but just how much trouble this whole farce is having getting off the ground in Canada. Not to mention that this whole shitshow is heading to the Supreme Court which was a huge hurdle to overcome in and of itself.
It’s also worth giving the CCFR’s latest episode a listen. People who are interfacing with the buyback are having a straight up bewildering time trying to get anywhere with it. The program not returning calls, “further instructions” never being sent, people being sent confirmation receipts for guns that were never turned in, you name it.
Keep in mind, this program is so bad that it’s this much of a clusterfuck with limited participation.
Call me crazy, but it almost seems like they don’t care anymore. It’s almost like they know that this thing isn’t enforceable, isn’t realistic and isn’t really that popular and they’ve resigned themselves to it by just letting this program go off its meds and wander around aimlessly.
I think there’s a very deliberate reason why Carney hasn’t mentioned the program virtually at all since the election and why he deflected the idea of banning the SKS. Something is in the air, and it’s worth considering the whole issue.
I think things stand a very real chance of coming back around over the long term.

I heard something that IPSC was trying to get recognized like the Olympics so they could provide exemptions as they are a legitimate international sporting organization
11
u/boozefiend3000 Aug 18 '26
They’ve been trying for awhile
4
u/fyfnw Aug 18 '26
I know, I'm talking about something specific with the SCC.
5
u/Reasonable_Hall2346 Aug 18 '26
The SCC case hearing is not related to the handgun freeze as far as I know. IPSC are on it to provide testimonial as the rifle bans pretty much destroyed that sport (along side the handgun freeze).
7
u/fyfnw Aug 18 '26
My read of it is, since they are challenging if OIC can be used restrict firearms that have a genuine sporting or hunting purpose. If they win, it may open a path for exemptions for rifle and handgun. That was my guess/hopium though.
7
u/boozefiend3000 Aug 18 '26
The only legal exemptions for handguns right now are for Olympic shooting and ATC’s for trappers and what not. It’s law. The courts can’t do anything about that since it was voted on in parliament. The only way we’re getting handguns back for anything other than those two is a repeal of the current law. Gots to vote conservative
3
u/ProtoJazz Aug 18 '26
Ipsc covers more than handguns
4
u/boozefiend3000 Aug 18 '26
Ya, but he mentioned handguns. They’re not coming back through a court win
2
u/fyfnw Aug 19 '26
Agreed, I don't claim to understand all the legalese. My understanding from the conversations I've had is with a favorable SCC result. Could to be used to argue for wider exemptions for valid sporting uses. Making the argument that training for the Olympics is not the ONLY valid sporting use for firearms. That could potentially wider available exemptions. But its obviously not a slam dunk and depends heavily on how the SCC responds.

"Nowadays, self-defence is the main motivation for more than 75 per cent of gun owners (in the US). A similar trend followed in Canada: in 2023, 30 per cent of gun-owning Canadians said self-defence was their primary reason for owning a gun, up from only six per cent in the late 1990s."
--this is the only thing that will save guns in Canada

u/Agonizing-Stroke1812 Aug 18 '26
self-defence was their primary reason for owning a gun
I'm fully convinced that the reason for our current predicament is the pussyfooting around this that the gun community has collectively done since 94. "Its not a weapon it's a projectile launching device!!". Not sure that can be undone at this point
9
u/floydsmoot Aug 18 '26
double that 30% to 60% and you'll see changes for the better. The only thing a politician understands is votes.
6
u/Late_Winner6859 Aug 19 '26
Technically, pitchforks and Molotov cocktails work quite well too.
Though our problem isn’t that we are not heard. It’s rather that half of the population is so dense and brainwashed, that politicians don’t need to care about minority votes. No quick solutions here sadly
3
u/Armed_Accountant Whoever wants to touch my guns has to touch me first. 28d ago
It's 30% because majority of us know we can't say it's for self defense. I'm sure as shot not telling a random polling company the real reason I have these bad boys. For official purposes, it's sporting.
3
u/floydsmoot 28d ago
and that's a problem. Admitting that's it for self defence ( like the US and Czechia) will change things
2
u/Armed_Accountant Whoever wants to touch my guns has to touch me first. 28d ago
Not when it's not a legal reason to own.

Does anybody else find it a bit sleazy that the NFA is using the Supreme Court Challenge that was headed up by the CCFR to raise funds? Sure they are an Intervenor, but that's insignificant compared to the work and expense shouldered by the CCFR to bring this about. Am I off base here? Here is their pitch if you want to read it for yourself: https://nfa.ca/the-gun-ban-court-is-here-and-we-are-in/
13
u/PA-Rugby-Fan 24d ago
I find it a bit ironic that the NFA spent the last year and this year arguing that appealing the court case to the Supreme Court would be a waste of time and money only to now post about how hard they are working as an intervenor. I mean the more the merrier but still.

The NFA was always the sleaziest of the 3 orgs in their tone and antics

Feds asking the courts to strike down litigation from an activist groups lawsuit on the govs climate goals stating that courts have no right to make or direct climate policy.
Wondering how this might bode for the upcoming court challenge. Replace climate with firearms.
This may be something different as I'm not savvy on the tiers of the court system, but I'll share it. Perhaps some of the bigger brain folks on the sub can weigh in.

A few thoughts.
The climate lawsuit is going to the Federal Court. It also makes sense that the government doesn’t really want to be constrained by a Trudeau-era climate policy, which forces them into a straight jacket because the governments focus seems to be on completing infrastructure projects to stimulate and expand the economy.
Canada is a resource extraction nation, and has the potential to get some major dick-sway on the world stage with critical minerals, but those minerals don’t mean anything if they stay in the ground. This means mines, which means increasing grid output and capacity which means more hydroelectric and nuclear plants.
This climate policy threatens to slow or even outright kill these projects which is something we can no longer afford to see come to pass.
Speaking strictly of global economics, not global warming, the world in which these policies manifested no longer exists and things have changed drastically. The world is becoming more hostile and insular, which means Canada needs to develop the infrastructure to not only look out for itself, but to be a stable partner in minerals and energy.
Our court case is heading to the Supreme Court and has nothing really to do with whether or not the government can ban guns, more than it does how the government went about banning them, and can an OIC even be used to make broad, sweeping changes to the law.
Instead of making a public plea for the Supreme Court to kill our case, they extended the amnesty and haven’t really said anything else about it.
If the government was going to try and do something like this, they would have done so by now, but the Governor General didn’t even deny any of our intervenors from participating in the case.

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Aug 17 '26
Anxiously awaiting what November and beyond brings…I’m really interested in the latest intervenor - the CTF - and their arguments relating to the variant language.
I wonder how helpful - for one side or the other - intervenors have been historically for SCC cases.

u/FunkyFrunkle Aug 17 '26 edited Aug 17 '26
It’ll certainly give much more weight to the case when you have three Attorneys Generals from three of Canadas largest provinces throwing their hat into the ring with you, not to mention civil liberties groups and other organizations.
The CCFR has ten intervenors.
The government only has one intervenor on its behalf and that’s the Canadian Coalition for Gun Control.
It by no means sets anything in stone, but it certainly adds legitimacy and weight to the case. While I admit that there is some ambient anxiety for me concerning the potential outcomes, what I can tell you is that I’d be feeling much more anxious if, say, the government had 10 intervenors on it’s behalf and we only had one.
There are some serious questions being asked about the limits of executive power, provincial jurisdiction over property rights and resources (amongst other things) which are all very much legitimate issues the Supreme Court is keen to weigh in on.
As for being anxious, nothing is moving until the Supreme Court renders its decision. The government has explicitly extended the amnesty to expire 90 days after the court renders its decision so it’s unlikely we’ll hear anything about guns in the meantime.
Until then the program exists in stasis as a largely unworkable, unenforceable and unpopular policy not to mention financially draining.
6
u/MapleDesperado Aug 17 '26
You’ve touched on some key issues that are of interest to the court. One of the things that often gets lost on observers - most of whom are very interested in the specific case - is that the SCC is often looking at broader themes. It doesn’t have an interest in the specific case as much as how that case fits in and advances the law. The outcome of the case is often just the mechanical consequence of turning the cogs after the Court has decided on all the issues.

u/GoGetInvolved Aug 17 '26
The CTF intervention was dismissed. The full list from the website of the ones who got leave is the National Firearms Association, Canadian Constitution Foundation, the Canadian Shooting Sports Association, the International Practical Shooting Confederation Canada, the Safari Club International, the Canadian Coalition for Gun Control, the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association and the Ontario Rifle Association.

Well the "master negotiator" got mad last minute and now we have 50% tariffs on tens of billions of dollars of goods... Yippie can't wait to pay 50% more on gun stuff when Carney retaliates... ELBOWS UP!!!
17
u/Due-Candidate4384 27d ago
He got fake mad but really he was licking his lips and stroking his fucking pecker knowing how he can use this to his political advantage. This country deserves everything it gets.
14
u/I-LOVE-HENRY-RIFLES 27d ago
Don’t you dare talk about the 4D chess playing economic phd master genius second to none like that! Thats treason! Elbows up! If you like Alberta so much move to the USA. Sure Carney was Justin’s economic adviser but that’s not important.
11

It’s insane how ridiculous this is, yet this is exactly how they talk. Like his repeating what they say is the height of comedy.

All the people cheering how this is a good thing are about to feel the real cost in the coming months (most likely years because prices never drop tbh).
12
u/Cre_AK47 Name Prohibited by OIC 28d ago
Yep. Don't get me wrong, the deal sounded like it was going to be trash, but Carney had A YEAR to negotiate a fair deal, yet he just ran the clock! No surprise Canada could only get a shit deal when you basically do nothing until weeks before the deadline, which I'll add, the PM basically said ""don't care", I'm going to Italy, byeee!" until opinion polls on him started to tank, forcing him to cancel his trip, which he should have done that in the first place!
12
u/Lumindan 28d ago
I'm sure they'll have the proper spin on this by Monday. Somehow people will say this is a good thing or that Carney somehow came out the winner.
I especially like the dollar for dollar thing they're pitching. People don't quite understand how bad that's going to be.
We're about to see a lot of industries get nuked.
I hope people are bracing for austerity 2: this time it's not technical.
As a reminder to all the good folks reading this, now's a good time to stock up on ammo, primers and all the usual stuff. Its about to spike in price once things settle.
5
u/EliteDuck 27d ago
I especially like the dollar for dollar thing they're pitching. People don't quite understand how bad that's going to be.
Very few do. Other than the obvious direct damage on our economy, the US is going to retaliate even further for this. Our economy is going to be beyond fucked in a year.
6
u/I-LOVE-HENRY-RIFLES 27d ago
All the people get happy at hard talk don’t really know the consequences of said hard talk. Soft ahh libs are not ready for what’s coming.
4
u/Lumindan 27d ago
I had family in the lumber industry (who had to pivot because of the softwood debacle).
Its gonna be a multi year economic shockwave.
People are gonna be really pressed like, a year from now.
The better question is if they'll have the ability to correlate it all.
2
u/campclownhonkler 24d ago
I hate Carney and the liberals too but Trump's deals are just you surrender completely and then he tacks more humiliation on last minute. He's done this repeatedly. There was never going to be a deal no matter who's prime minister as Canada is just the whipping boy for the US to energize the Trump base after all his other failures.

The most depressing part of all this is carneys gonna go up in the polls. Canadians love shitting on the US. Twenty god damn years of liberal rule coming….

u/2Puppers4Sale Boating Enthusiast 27d ago
More like eternal. The Liberals will NEVER LOSE A SINGLE ELECTION EVER AGAIN. They have basically become like Japan's LDP or Singapore's PAP. I predict come 2029 they win over 80 percent of seats.
9
u/boozefiend3000 27d ago
No, they’ll lose eventually. Once Trumps gone they’ll have nothing. Why they’ll run an election before Trumps out of office to secure another majority. If I math right that’s 19 fuckin years 🙃
10
u/obliviousmousepad 24d ago
Unless I’ve been huffing too much Hoppes, no sporting goods, firearms, or ammunition listed on our new counter tariffs
15
u/I-LOVE-HENRY-RIFLES 24d ago
I just hope trump can hurt the feds coffers so much that they simply cannot afford to keep the confiscation going. Even though most of the pick ups and destructions are done now if they can’t spend more money that would be good. Especially if the Supreme Court orders them to pay compensation to every single gun owner in turn for upholding the OICs
8
u/Goliad1990 24d ago
It's a key vote buying project. They'd find a way to fund it if the federal coffers were down to the last five dollar bill.
Especially if the Supreme Court orders them to pay compensation to every single gun owner

Don’t kid yourself, this is Canada. The worst will always happen.
Libs will print a zillion dollars and keep funding all this BS. You’ll have no guns and be even poorer.
5
u/Lumindan 24d ago
While we wont be directly affected at a glance(I only skimmed the document), tariffs and going dollar for dollar will increase costs across the board because they affect cost of living.
So while you're technically correct, I suspect we'll still end up paying more, one way or another.

At the end of the day, the blame lays with our brain dead populace. It’s not like the logical thing to do in the face of trump is elect our own ghouls who have been working hard to knee cap our economy, weaken national unity, etc for the last decade.

I love seeing this because it ignores the part that in those projections the NDP and the Bloc would hold their ground. Instead both of those parties shit the bed.
In any other election, the conservatives vote share would have meant they'd be elected.
Could the conservatives have run a stronger campaign? Definitely.
But purely blaming the conservatives when the NDP openly threw themselves out of the window to prop up the Liberals is silly.
Combine that with the drummed up trump derangement and here we are.

As much as this court case is providing hopium for the community, we should be investing more time and resources into politics and getting the CPC elected in the next general election.
That will be our only chance of reversing any of the damage done.
13
u/boozefiend3000 Aug 17 '26
What can we realistically do though? There’s a huge chunk of this country that are absolutely dumb as fuck and think anything the CPC does will make us the US. How do you get through to someone that dense?

Any suggestions on how to deal with the majority of the country that supports a government running deficits twice the size that Trudeau did and has a total disregard for democracy? You start.

Right on brother. Get involved in your CPC association. Join your local board. Sign up to volunteer. Learn roles on a campaign. Consider being a candidate. Don't sweat the big stuff nationally that you can't do anythin about just focus on your community.
If you can't stomach the CPC even just for one election then get involved in changing hearts and minds and policies in your local NDP or Bloc or even Liberals on guns (just don't vote Liberal until they actually change).

Guys I have honestly never seen a population as fucking stupid as ours in the developed world. I can’t think of a single thing about Canada that is materially better because of the Liberals, yet Canadians think this is not enough reason to change parties after 11 years. Maybe it’s self-hatred. The left won the culture war in Canada and leftist ideology often stems from self-hatred.
