Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Guys I have honestly never seen a population as fucking stupid as ours in the developed world. I can’t think of a single thing about Canada that is materially better because of the Liberals, yet Canadians think this is not enough reason to change parties after 11 years. Maybe it’s self-hatred. The left won the culture war in Canada and leftist ideology often stems from self-hatred.

Modern Canada is what happens if Reddit were to become a country.

Nah modern Canada is what happens when capitalists can do whatever the fuck they like and give us all peanuts and convince us where getting a feast.

found the LPC/NDP voter.

I've never voted once for either of those two parties. But keep believing whatever you'd like.

Canadas economy and our standard of living is in the shitter because the LPC has been trying to control the whole Canadian economy from Ottawa and failing miserably, we need less government intervention, not more.

Get outta here with your half baked commie platitudes. Or at least say “muh late stage capitalism” so your brand is easier to identify

"Canadas economy and our standard of living is in the shitter because the LPC has been trying to control the whole Canadian economy from Ottawa and failing miserably, we need less government intervention, not more. "

Buddy you don't think the government is capitalist? You don't think the fucking banker is a capitalist?

"Get outta here with your half baked commie platitudes."

Get outta here with your bullshit thinking capitalism the system that has gotten us here will magically safe us if we only change x or y this is what always happens under capitalism the rich buy the government and they become one in the same.

lol, western capitalism was responsible for the highest standard of living ever known to mankind. Canada moving away from it is what has caused the decline.

"lol, western capitalism was responsible for the highest standard of living ever known to mankind."

Buddy the micro plastics in my blood and countless extinct beings would say different.

That’s a completely different issue. As if other systems have never yielded negative ecological outcomes. Even natives hunted species to extension.

"That’s a completely different issue."

Nah it's one in the same capitalism last I checked is built on endless growth to endlessly grow something has to go consequences be damned. This so called "highest standard of living" will be short lived and the consequences from it will be horrific.

"As if other systems have never yielded negative ecological outcomes."

Yeah but to this scale? I don't think so.

"Even natives hunted species to extension."

Yeah no shit but I'll tell you one thing the rate they did it at compared to the bullshit this system is doing it at well lets just say one is considerably more sustainable.

So you think if there was 20 billion people on the plane all living under communism there would be zero economic impact? Simply because of how virtuous it is? Their virtue would simply will everything they need to survive without an effect on nature?

Pretty funny tbh. Don’t you have to be an adult to use this website?

It’s crazy seeing Carney again saying that we’ll need to make sacrifices and there is going to be pain for the next little while, it’s been fucking over half a decade that our economy has been on life support and young people have been putting off starting their lives. Ironically it’s all old people with tons of wealth and all the time in the world telling us this lmao. Somehow I don’t think the LPC will deliver.

17

u/rastamasta45 25d ago

Yeah they can fuck right off with the sacrifice bullshit, drawing blood from a stone. We already can’t afford housing, groceries or starting a family. I guess some of us need to cancel our Disney plus!

This country is done for.

11

u/InitialAd4125 26d ago

"It’s crazy seeing Carney again saying that we’ll need to make sacrifices"

It's such fucking bullshit to like okay then can you sacrifice wasteful nonsense that doesn't help us like the gun ban. No. Okay how about reform OAS so it's not such a money pit giving money to people who don't need it. Also No. Hmm yes real pragmatic all this is.

1

u/HappyCan7250 21d ago

Oh but didn't you know, statistics canada told us today our economy grew 3% this quarter! LPC will trot that out like crazy.... while refusing to mention that is ONLY due to high oil prices and Alberta.

The CCFR's Supreme Court challenge is the only thing I have hope for at this point in Canada. IMO the trade dispute will be kept as an issue for as long as possible because it's keeping Carney's polling numbers high. Everything else is going down the toilet in Canada.

3

u/RydNightwish 25d ago

1000%. The trade issue will be made to outlive trump. Its such a perfect tool. Things go well, the libs win for playing 5d chess. Things go poorly, the libs win for taking a stand.

The general voting population is delusional especially on reddit. Thread after thread about people day dreaming that we can even hold off an American military operation.

Unlike Ukraine and Iran, the Canadian general population is soft… The culture war winners are producing a society that will have no back bone.

u/Lumindan 25d ago

Thread after thread about people day dreaming that we can even hold off an American military operation.

These are the same people who were attacking people over supporting the military just a few years ago. They cheered when we kept stripping back the budget. They're happy to go to 'war' as long it isn't them.

Same people who flaunt the whole canadian militia with drones idea, these people don't even know first aid or how to change a tire. It's just the reddit special (everyone's an expert on fighter jets too and trade deals lol)

We can't even get public servants to have proper working at heights training or first aid, I highly doubt PSPC office workers will be able to load a magazine.

-7

u/Vahuo89 25d ago

hold off an American military operation

It's not about holding them off.

It's showing that we, as Canada, won't take abuse. And the rest of the world loves us and would NOT stand against any aggression against us.

Seriously. The Whole world would not stand for it.

8

u/Reasonable_Hall2346 25d ago

Hard to tell if you are missing /s or being serious. I am as patriotic as it gets but the mass canadian population will not do any standing up. Even if they did, what are they gonna stand up with?

7

u/BigDirrrty 25d ago

I would fly an American flag and join them, my family and many others would welcome the yanks as liberators

6

u/Due-Candidate4384 25d ago

This response is good and correct. I will be doing the same.

Canadian Inferiority complex. Whatever the US does we must do the opposite be it gun laws, having a stringent immigration process, whatever else. No shot a conservative gets elected while a republican is in power in the US

-8

u/InitialAd4125 26d ago

The left? Bitch please these are neoliberal capitalists last I checked I don't see mass ownership of the means of production.

13

u/Lumindan 26d ago

The party might not be truly left but they hoover up the bulk of left leaning Canadians who then defend them as hard as they possibly can.

0

u/InitialAd4125 26d ago

Left leaning? Ah yes highly left wing to checks notes support unbridled capitalism and elect a neoliberal banker. These people are neoliberals who are scared to call themselves what they are.

2

u/Lumindan 26d ago

I'd like to think they capture both tbh.

There people who support the Liberals who do genuinely believe in left leaning ideology. That being said, I don't disagree with you that they've pushed their core party beyond that position.

Unfortunately with how team sports mentality works, they'll be cheered on by their base regardless.

If you told me 20 years ago the Liberals would be cheering on a multi millionaire banking executive as their figure head I wouldn't have believed it.

I also don't think they genuinely know what a neo liberal is.

I think it just highlights how rocky the actual political landscape is now in Canada and it's not as cut and dry.

3

u/InitialAd4125 26d ago

"There people who support the Liberals who do genuinely believe in left leaning ideology. That being said, I don't disagree with you that they've pushed their core party beyond that position."

It's the fundamental reason I despise the Liberal party they don't actually stand for anything they claim other people are populists but at the end of the day that's what they are. They have no beliefs they hold dear only power and they will throw anyone and anything under the bus to hold onto that power.

" also don't think they genuinely know what a neo liberal is."

If anything it's neo neo liberalism or what neo liberalism was in reality all about "free markets, private property, deregulation, privatization, and reduced government spending" Yeah all these things but private property is only respected for the rich and corporations, free markets when it benefits the rich, deregulation for the rich, privatization when it benefits the rich and reduced government spending for normal people and money into the hands of the rich.

The biggest voters for the Liberals are those in the 55+ age demographic. No other demographic in 2025-2026 according to 338 Canada has had the liberals poll over 50%. The highest for men was 45%, women was 49% (close but no cigar.), 18-34 year olds was 45%. 35-54 year olds 42%. Only 55+ age demographic has averaged 50%+ since Febuary 2026. That demographic is so fixated on the Liberals that is who the Liberals cater to. Which is perfect. In Canada the average age someone lives to is about 83 years old. Meaning that even at there youngest age 66% of there life has already been spent. So they don't care if everyone else's life quality if going down the drain. As long as they can make it another atleast 25 odd years they will be happy. Because if they got even a little bit of equity they won't care. They want the status quo to maintain itself.

I’m well aware the LPC isn’t left, but the people who voted for them are. Their leftist self-hatred means voting for dog shit over and over again. Partly to punish themselves but also probably to hurt the rest of us too. Gets their lil dicks hard

1

u/InitialAd4125 26d ago

"I’m well aware the LPC isn’t left, but the people who voted for them are."

No again that's neoliberal boomers or do you think the fucking boomers are left wing you know the generation famous for being fuck you I got mine mindset?

"Their leftist self-hatred means voting for dog shit over and over again."

No it means neoliberal boomers vote for the dog shit because they're the dog their bullshit is dumped on the rest of us so that they can live even more comfortable lives then most of them get. All the while there owners the rich laugh at us and rape kids.

14

u/Gloomy-Grocery6562 26d ago

Cringe Reddit take. The LPC are already further left than I’d like on gun ownership, among other things.

I hope you’re not about to say something stupid like, “If we go far enough left, we’ll get our guns back!”
