Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Its crazy that people can show up, out number you, are armed and Canadians are expected to just bend over and cower.

Its especially funny they got a quote from Wab given his history.

Better yet, they decided to interview an ethics professor, someone who is well off living in a gated community, who can easily moralize their position and continue the farce.

Then again this is about par for the course with our current justice system.

Self defense is a sin, they're going to drag this poor 65+ year old out over the coals. Even just the process itself will be part of the punishment.

We need some serious reform. I'm not asking for castle law but man the onus to defend one's self, family and property feels ridiculous.

Neil Mcarthur is part of the sunshine list, he has a salary of over 158k as of 2024.

He's in the top 8% of Manitoba and that's purely on just salary and not other assets. He also gets a decent chunk speaking at events etc.

The dude is living significantly better than others considering Manitoba's average salary is 50-60k.

He's well off and in no risk of having someone break onto his property putting his life at risk.

The point is that there are certain sheltered, well off folks who feel it's okay to moralize on stuff like this.

I regularly see clients out in rural southern Alberta, it's a huge issue everywhere in rural Canada. It's honestly sad to see. I have a young couple as clients just south of Lethbridge, they're only a few years graduated from university that wanted to start a farm. They didn't have their PAL and they thought they wouldn't need it, despite me and a few other agriculture advisors recommending it just in case. So they did, helped them set up their finances, etc. Fast forward one year later, boy was I surprised to see the amount of guns and ammo they had when I visited them. And as expected it was unfortunately not just for livestock protection out there as they've had some bad run ins in the area.

Every one is cool until you have coyotes or hogs ruin your day. Then suddenly a ranch rifle doesn't look too bad
