First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Canadians Are Buying More Guns

"Nowadays, self-defence is the main motivation for more than 75 per cent of gun owners (in the US). A similar trend followed in Canada: in 2023, 30 per cent of gun-owning Canadians said self-defence was their primary reason for owning a gun, up from only six per cent in the late 1990s."

I'm fully convinced that the reason for our current predicament is the pussyfooting around this that the gun community has collectively done since 94. "Its not a weapon it's a projectile launching device!!". Not sure that can be undone at this point

Technically, pitchforks and Molotov cocktails work quite well too.

Though our problem isn’t that we are not heard. It’s rather that half of the population is so dense and brainwashed, that politicians don’t need to care about minority votes. No quick solutions here sadly

It's 30% because majority of us know we can't say it's for self defense. I'm sure as shot not telling a random polling company the real reason I have these bad boys. For official purposes, it's sporting.
