Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Well, why not? Sounds to me like a reasonable thing. No different than if you are passionate about other things in life.

With the growth of licences comes the growth in interest, which isn’t necessarily in line with the Canadian psyche.

Literally nothing in this world pisses me off more than the political and media elites who think they dictate the "Canadian psyche" from on high, and will kick and scream in the face of overwhelming evidence that they're out of touch.

The answer to the headline question is self-defence. And that's a great thing, but as this narrative takes hold, the anti-gun zealots are going to pull out all the stops to take gun ownership completely out of the hands of the average citizen. As in, not just controlling what kinds of firearms are legal, but demanding that only people who can prove some sort of agricultural or sustenance need can own any kind of firearm at all, in order to try and get guns completely out of the mainstream and snuff out the "self-defence culture".

The UK police are making a move to restrict shotguns to farmers only, the same way they restrict rifles. This is the kind of push we're going to see here, in the post OIC/buyback era.

Why do they get to dictate how I live my life if I’m not having a negative impact on anyone. Leave me alone lol. This is like so dumb. Guns have been Canadian since forever. Arrived with the settlers, used by trappers all the way to the cowboys of Alberta and BC then the gold rush miners. Who the fuck are these people getting to dictate what’s Canadian and what’s not.
