Misc Makasi (FAL-AR hybrid) approved by the RCMP as NON-RESTRICTED

Post image

According to CGN it was granted a NR FRT #198428 very recently. Any BFL/verifiers here care to check?

Edit: Multiple BFLs have verified it to be true NR, and the importer/distributor is Gravel Agency

From the manufacturer's website:

The Makasi marries the functional aesthetic of the FAL with the familiar handling of AR-style controls. It features a short stroke gas piston system and bufferless recoil system and operates with a non-reciprocating side charging handle. The Para-style stock is also side-folding and is supported with a robust two-screw mounting system that allows for firing in both the folded and deployed positions.

Finally finished my makeshift Amazon only gun locker for my apartment. It’s obviously not built to keep a determined person or a fire out but it keeps me legal. Total cost was $320.

Misc I received a notice to vacate because I own a gun

I hope this doesn't violate rule 13, it just feels like other people here have probably dealt with this. Just want some assurance on whether im in the clear or cooked.

I'm a university student and started renting at the start of may. It is a sublet room where I pay the guy and he pays the landlord. I have not met my other two roommates as they are home for the summer. It is a fixed term lease from apr 30 2026 to apr 30 2027.

I guess my first mistake was telling them I had a gun. Bought it about a month after I moved in and told them. Didn't receive a reply until a while later when the subletor learned this from my roommates. The only thing they've really said over all the back and forth since then is they are uncomfortable with it.

Time and time again I said hey lets talk about this, firearms are a big part of my life and I don't want to give it up, nor do I want to go through the hassle of having to store it somewhere else. They refused to communicate about this at all, all they're willing to say is they're uncomfortable with it.

Yesterday, landlord contacted me out of the blue and asked for a picture of my gun and my RPAL for liability. Out of good faith I sent them a picture of my TM22 secured with a trigger lock and a copy of my RPAL and told them I don't have any ammo. Today the subletor texted me the notice to vacate, though the building owner said nothing.

I'm kinda terrified as I currently work a summer job here and I'm not sure if I can find a place I'm ok with in this short notice. I also really like this place. I don't need any legal advice on what to do if it violates rule 13, just if I'm probably ok or would probably have to leave.

And yes, marketing is now well aware of how we feel about the AI "enhancement" of the concept photo, which is in fact a real build.

Misc Police shot my friend’s pistol. Any idea why?

Post image

A friend of mine went through a messy divorce; long story short his wife made a false statement and used the OPP as a weapon against him. His firearms were stored in an OPP “vault” for approximately five months.

This S&W revolver, a 686 Plus Perfomance Centre, was BNIB and unfired. The cylinder was clean, he has photos of it after purchasing and it was never brought to the range.

They had a bunch of rifles but the only ones that appear to have been fired are this revolver and a G19 that had a red dot.

This occurred a couple years back, it’s something we discuss out of curiosity once in a while, and he has no desire to confront the OPP or complain. We are just curious.

Is it normal for the police to shoot your guns once confiscated?

Why did they only shoot two handguns and no rifles?

Thanks!

Whether it was because the model ceased being produced, it was OIC’d the night before or a gunpost deal that fell through.

My fiancée and I headed out to ghost PLUZ to plink around this morning. We spent more time cleaning up other people’s mess. We wound up with a bag of shells/brass, a large bag of garbage, a bag of cans and bunch of cardboard and metal. We would’ve taken more but that’s all that we could fit in the box. It’s absolutely disgusting that people think this is okay.

Misc It’s not all doom and gloom, shit we can still look forward to in 2026

I know that it’s easy to drown in all of the doom and gloom that this hobby has become since 2020, but there are still a handful of things to look forward to.

  1. Both the Makasi and Carmel coming to market this summer.
  2. The Browning BAR D

BM arrives this fall.

  1. The L85A1 was recently approved so the lab isn’t completely lost.

  2. Ammo prices are down since peak COVID. currently seeing $0.55 223 and $0.30 9mm.

The SKS has also survived another high profile shooting.

The CCFR Supreme Court challenge appears to have placed a stalemate on the government where no further prohibitions will be implemented until we know the decision of the courts.

What else is coming down the pipeline to look forward to?

Misc [Megathread] Makasi MK-15

This will be the place where all Makasi related discussion will be concentrated (until the rifle starts getting into peoples hands). We’re seeing a lot of repeated posts, hype, and speculation on sub right now and we want to try to keep it from drowning out the rest of the content you good folks are making.

We expect to remove this megathread once the rifle actually gets into people’s hands and gets some actual canadian reviews. In the meantime feel free to speculate, discuss your purchase/preorder or otherwise in this thread.

Misc Pricing for New FOC Range

Post image
133 Upvotes

I received this email from FOC regarding a new upcoming range operated by Durham Shooting Club, which is always good news especially for GTHA folks trying to secure a club membership. The pricing looks kinda insane to me, the cheapest option is nearly $830 a year with incredibly limited access, an intermediate option for $1068, or you have to shell out $20K.

Misc American here with a few questions

I'm not trying to gloat or anything like that, just genuinely curious about Canadians and how they're feeling about guns, gun rights, and gun purchases. You guys were clearly given the shaft when it comes to guns.

Question 1: I see a lot of comments here passing up on $900 SKS's or Carmel's because they're a ripoff. Why not spend a little extra to get your hands on a semi-automatic rifle since the vast majority of them are banned? I feel like I would if I were in your shoes. 22's are just cope imo.

Question 2: how sacred are guns to the average user here?

Question 3: how is morale? Do you guys have hope for the future? If a conservative PM wins, do you think he'll unban a lot of shit?

I’ll do my best to answer throughout the day, my answers may not be instantaneous.

I’m happy to answer any good faith questions, but please note I’m not here to argue or convince anyone of anything. Just thought it might be interesting to provide insights from my pov since I may not fit the regular mould of most Canadian gun owners.

Misc Bad experience on Crown Land

Went out to a fairly popular crown land shooting spot in my area today, it was my first time there and im not super familiar with the etiquette of public shooting but definitely had a weird experience.

When I first arrived it was just one guy and his girlfriend plinking with their .22, i asked if they minded me setting up next to them and they had no problems so I set up and started plinking with my .22 too. We would pause and go adjust our targets at the same time, and everything went smoothly.

Eventually they left and immediately after a big group pulled in. Right away they started unloading their targets and walking all around down range without saying a word to me, not even a “hi”. I sat patiently for about 10 minutes waiting for them to clear downrange, and then they just started shooting without any heads up to put on ear pro. It really came across that they felt as though because they were a bigger group they were free to take control over the area even though I was already there.

They were also shooting their prohib (GSG16 I think) and using unpinned 30-round SKS mags. I’m against the bans as much as the next guy, but this is just irresponsible. The last thing we need as a community are headlines about people getting caught shooting prohibs or “high capacity assault-style SKS’s.”

If any of you happen to be reading this, I’m sure you’re all decent people just out to have a good time, and I get it. But please think about the responsibility that comes with bringing firearms to a public spot. Every time something like this makes the news, it gives ammunition to the people trying to take this away. Abide by the laws even if you disagree with them, and please teach the young kid you brought proper safe handling, letting him walk around waving a gun in people’s direction isn’t okay.

I left shortly after and found a different area to shoot but as a new shooter the experience left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe its just because im new to the hobby, but the shooting environment that this group created did not feel safe and respectful, and im hopeful that this isnt the norm for crown land shooting.

Misc New PAL holder general curiosity question. Do we think there is any hope the ban on hand guns will ever be lifted?

I'm new to shooting and just recently got my PAL (Lady shooter). I have a .22cal Winchester wildcat rifle it's great but I'm sort of super jealous of everyone that has grandfathered hand guns and wish I could buy one. They just look like they'd be really fun to shoot at the range and are more me sized (I mean smaller cal options not hand canons. I know there are definitely some heavyduty ones out there).

I also generally look for more lightweight and shorter options for any type of non restricted gun type/actions (any recommendations are welcomed). Main reason is a few weeks after I finished my firearms course, I had an accident and severed tendons in my dominant hand. It's healed pretty well considering the injury but long heavier guns are more awkward for me to handle now (hopefully not forever) The hand works it's just weaker.

So do we think there is any hope the ban on handguns will ever be lifted. Or should I let go of the dream?
