Misc American here with a few questions
I'm not trying to gloat or anything like that, just genuinely curious about Canadians and how they're feeling about guns, gun rights, and gun purchases. You guys were clearly given the shaft when it comes to guns.
Question 1: I see a lot of comments here passing up on $900 SKS's or Carmel's because they're a ripoff. Why not spend a little extra to get your hands on a semi-automatic rifle since the vast majority of them are banned? I feel like I would if I were in your shoes. 22's are just cope imo.
Question 2: how sacred are guns to the average user here?
Question 3: how is morale? Do you guys have hope for the future? If a conservative PM wins, do you think he'll unban a lot of shit?

u/Parking_Media 12d ago edited 12d ago
Morale is low as fuck.
Solidarity is stronger than any time I am aware of. The licensed firearms owners up here are fed up, pissed off, and are not complying en masse.
Government for a whole decade has been chipping away at the social contract that has us proud of being licensed and following the rules. This is incredibly toxic for any group of people. It will take a very fucking long time to fix.

u/Any-Lavishness-2473 12d ago
On another post here, someone described us as "criminals in waiting". Perfectly said.

u/conanap 12d ago
I don’t think the government cares to repair that relationship tbh, we’re not really a big enough voter block compared to antigun
8
u/Parking_Media 12d ago
I disagree with the second part fairly strongly, we are nearly ten percent of the population.
The present government seems only set on making things worse.

u/Whispersfine 12d ago edited 12d ago
Morale? Basically a national joke.
Don’t get me wrong, CCFR and other amazing folks are doing all they can to fight but hell, just check out how many guns were given up in Alberta. Loudest and most conservative province end up giving away many firearms. That tells you how the morale is like in a nutshell.

u/terrrastar 12d ago
I thought yall didn’t give up shit during the buyback?
6
u/PrestigiousStatus711 12d ago
Very few have actually turned anything in but many (~67k) signed up for the buyback but the confiscations haven't happened yet.

I’ve seen people receiving drop off boxes already. I assume those live in the area where local pd participates in the program.

In regards to Question # 2. Its the principle of what's happening that should be more important than anything.
Letting a government just ban into oblivion people's poccessions, livelihoods, sports and traditions in a pathetic attempt to dodge addressing the real problems is a VERY bad precedent to set.
Once the government takes these freedoms / "privileges" away society rarely ever gets them back!
Ignorant people do not care until the same mentality attacks the one freedom / "privilege" they do really care about.
I remember back in 2020 some dimwit in the airsoft community was cheering on the gun bans claiming that nobody should own guns because back in the sh!thole Country he immigrated from appearently guns caused all of societies problems lol. Most airsofters warned him that if given an inch the government would take a mile on the matter.... sure as sh!t months later C21 arrived threatening to almost completely ban airsoft.

1 - For me I never bought a SKS when they were 50 bucks because it just didn't appeal to me. And now that they are 900 they still don't.. Especially after owning new Swiss guns that make everything look bad.
2 - I love my guns , my first gun is on the banned list and that is extremely sentimental to me. I spent much of my life dedicated to music and getting into guns was probably my first major hobby and probably my favorite.
3 - Moral = completely shot. Enough that I can't sleep sometimes and stay up thinking about it. I have debated un following this sub too many times, because I don't even want to participate in the hobby anymore. The only reason I haven't is because of the like minded community that are in the same position. But the amount of Liberal Glazers is frustrating. Glazing the same government that banned their guns , made housing unaffordable and is actively censoring them. And the only posts now are of cope guns.
The worst part is I was having some success documenting my collection and the gun bans completely ruined that. I now have 3 legal guns and I really don't even wanna shoot them because I only wanna shoot the bamned ones.
I got into Simracing because the only thing I like more then guns is cars and driving fsst. Been a good outlet to forget about the gun bans.
4
u/PrestigiousStatus711 12d ago
Sim racing and firearms. You must hate money haha.
3
u/westleysnipes604 12d ago
Extremely lol
The irony of thinking guns are an expensive Hobby lol
Simracing is a never ending money pit depending on how far you take it. Buy once cry once is almost impossible. Lol
11
u/parkix 12d ago
The SKS is incredibly popular because of 2 things: First, they used to be incredibly cheap years ago, so lots of people bought them. Secondly, as you already mentioned, they are now one of the only semi-autos out of a handfew that are currently legal. For me personally, in the current economy, with how expensive everything is, I can’t justify buying an SKS at current prices. It’s just too absurdly expensive. I’d rather save up and buy a quality rifle like a tikka t3x eventually. I’m sure opinions will vary and those with the means to splurge will have no issues with buying an Sks at the ridiculous price that it is now.
For many, guns is their identity, for others, it’s their livelihoods, or just a hobby. For me personally, I just want to be a good shooter and I view my weapons as a tool. But within this community in Canada, you will absolutely find many individuals that view gun rights as sacred, just like the US. But in the general public, gun rights might as well not exist in Canada. Most Canadian voters don’t even know what our gun rights are.
Morale is incredibly low, but we do have a slither of hope. The current restrictions are being challenged at the Supreme Court soon and if successful, we might be able to reverse a lot of nonsense from the past few years.

u/WeightedDips95 12d ago
Question for you.
Are many Americans aware of what’s being done to Canadian gun owners? Do you guys rightfully take away that you should never make any concessions to the antis no matter how “reasonable” or “common sense” it may seem at the time?
You guys are damn lucky to have a solid constitution, written by what can only be described as gods. And you have a culture that actually respects it. That is without parallel anywhere in the world

u/Conscious_Bid_8762 12d ago
Can still buy a bar a r1 or a garande or m4 or 1301 I wouldn’t spend 900 on a sks with the other options ?

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears 12d ago
Basically there’s no quality semis that are sub $1k except for the SKS.
Even with pre bans I’d still buy one.
Partly the cost was so low for them due to the volume of product. Same with garands (I’ve seen ads from the 70s where they were ~$350). Milsurps dry up eventually - so they would’ve become more expensive regardless. The bans just accelerated them
2
u/Skullrawk 12d ago
I think the new iwi Carmel seems nice, look like a scar
1
u/Dill_Pickle_Tears 12d ago
Sub-$1k. I think the Carmel and Makasi a gorgeous and are legit good options (I want to buy both lol). Unfortunately with our current market you’re not finding anything like that for $800-$900

Hey glad you’re asking questions because let us be the canary in the coal mine for all gun rights, it never ends and they’ll come after all. To answer your questions
Question 1: you are absolutely right, anyone saying otherwise is missing out or just coping because they don’t have the money. Having a non-restricted (not registered) semi auto rifle that’s reliable is worth its weight in gold, considering where things are headed
Question 2: guns are not sacred at all to the average user even among gun owners. We just don’t have that fighting spirit like you guys down south. Even gun owners are on here gloating they gave up their guns to the government. People here have up historical relics that were not even registered. It’s really unfortunate.
Question 3: mixed to be honest, a lot of us are holding strong, but even among those holding moral is hard, because the liberal party has a chokehold on our country, they run the media, they gained a majority without an election and backroom deals and passed the worst surveillance bill in Canadian history and yet their polls are still exploding. Life here is bad and getting worse, unemployment, cost of living and housing is blowing up here, yet the polls surge even more for LPC.
Moral is low, but we remain hopeful, it’s all we have
-1
u/Dill_Pickle_Tears 12d ago
Interesting you say this, because I’d say only some of what you’re saying is true and only in some states. IIRC, New York State has much stranger and similarly strict laws (the Pardini SP is considered an assault weapon). Still better than here for many states, but I’d say that with the bans in Virginia etc they’re already going through what we are, just not at the national level like here.

u/Lord_Space_Lizard 12d ago
Please name all the Liberal run media in Canada.
Postmedia is 2/3 owned by an American conglomerate with close ties to the Republican party. Postmedia publishes the National Post, Financial Post, Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, London Free Press, Montreal Gazette, Ottawa Citizen, Vancouver/Calgary/Edmonton/Toronto/Ottawa Sun
The only other large papers are the Toronto Star which means slightly left of centre, and Globe and Mail which is pretty centre.
So what are all the left leaning media companies?
5
u/airchinapilot 12d ago
There's left media and that is the CBC, Walrus, Tyee and bunch of tiny blogs that don't move any needle. Everything else is corporatist which is neither right or left. It media there that is there to drive clicks, sell products and protect capitalism. It's not right - it is corporatist. It entertains, distracts and the agenda it drives is status quo.

Hey there! A non-heritage Canadian here.
Answer 1: I like SKS majorly because SKS works really fine. A truely battle-tested rifle. I have seen SKS price being a hit or miss. But still, it is a lot of rifle at 700-900 price point it is selling now.
Answer 2: I dunno. I am more of a sports shooter trying to get into pistol shooting. For me, it is a tool of trade I guess. Still far away from getting a real sports handgun in .22 and .32.
Answer 3: I am new-ish here. Where I come from, it is a massive improvement. Atleast you can own a gun without sucking the dick of a random public official. Its a big deal. My dream is a rifle, a shotgun, a handgun and an antique. Well on the way. SKS, 1301, Walther GSP/ Pardini SP may be and a Webley&Scott. Simple man, simple tastes. Never been happier. Though, folks here who lived in abundance of 78 may differ in opinion.

Q1 - There's a few reasons I don't want to go for the Carmel or one of the slim pickings semi autos that aren't banned. Partly is that because we are such a small and captive market the price for them is high. In the US you can get a cheap AR for what? $400-600? To get that same thing here in a semi-auto we'd be looking $1600-2200. And personally I just can't afford to buy another right now.
But also the fact that they are ok now doesn't mean the current government is going to let them slide. With any tragedy that happens anywhere in the world (doesn't even have to be here) the anti-gun groups push for more bans. Something happened recently and there was worries that the SKS would end up on the chopping block after all. (It didn't this time, but concern was there.) So I don't want to risk that 2k gun is suddenly going to be another paperweight overnight because the gun control groups got their way again.
Q2 - To the average user here, probably fairly sacred. Most of us here I think understand what comes next if the gun control groups get their way. But that doesn't mean all gun owners are this way. Sadly there are a lot that simply don't care. Others are more than happy to serve sport shooters up if they think they'll be left alone. Only that's not what happened and they got a bit of a rude awakening (the ones paying attention anyway) that even their guns are on the chopping block.
Q3 - I'd say morale is on the low side. We have a government that is actively hostile to us, has no issue with telling lies to the public and misleading people with false headlines and manipulated stats. And is pretty much bent the knee to a group of overly hysterical anti-gun fanatics who have admitted the end goal is the end of civilian firearm ownership in Canada. (I'm not saying the Ecole Polytechnique survivors don't have trauma, but they are the exact epitome of why victims aren't permitted to handle sentencing. Nothing is ever far enough for them. And they don't care who they hurt to get their way.)
Even if we get a conservative government this is no guarantee they'll undo or rollback anything. Previous conservative governments have had chances to do that with getting rid of the prohibition of short barrel pistols and they didn't. While they threw us a bone by getting rid of the long gun registry, there were places that didn't follow orders to destroy it (Quebec) and kept it to use later on.
The only thing kind of keeping spirits from tanking completely is that the Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case against the Government in this firearms ban (done using what amounts to an Executive Order). And they don't take cases lightly (pretty much only if there's something actually worth looking at). But there's no guarantees there what will happen. The previous courts have sided against Canadian gun owners. And even if we win the supreme court case there's no telling what that will actually look like. Or what the government will do following it.
3
u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 12d ago
We're fed up and hate the gun laws here. We did everything right as legal and responsible owners yet the government treats us like criminals in the making for a passion we have. In the eyes of a regular non gun owning citizen my hunting rifle is a weapon of war and im an asshole for owning it
4
u/GreenCactus223 12d ago
Coles notes here...
- $900 for an sks is way over priced. They ises to have deals where you buy a crate of surplus ammo and get an sks for $75.
2.Most of not all semi auto rifles have been prohibited even though they've been in our safes since the OIC. New semi auto 22's seem to be ok for now but there's only 2 I think and the quality is something to be desired.
- If the conservatives get in we can only hope they stick to their word and use common sense repeal the OIC. There is hope woth the CCFR going to the Supreme Court and challenging it. Many people are choosing not to part take in the gun confiscation program
4
u/ivanlarav 12d ago
- The biggest issue is that the government can ban pretty much anything at any time. Even if a firearm is currently legal and complies with the law, it can still be reclassified and prohibited down the road. That uncertainty definitely affects what people choose to buy.
- Very sacred.
- I can’t speak for everyone, but they’ll never kill my morale. 😂 That said, there’s no guarantee a Conservative government will be willing to pick that fight. It could cost them votes, and there just aren’t that many licensed gun owners in Canada compared to the overall population. Politically, it might not be worth it for them.
I don’t know shit though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
5
u/c20710 12d ago
There’s a limit somewhere as to how much I’m willing to spend on something I’m likely to be unable to use vs putting that money elsewhere. That line is in a different place for all of us. Personally I have an uncomfortable amount tied up already.
To answer your other two questions at once, I have nothing but open contempt for this country and would leave immediately given an opportunity and torch any proof of citizenship on the way out. After the last election I went from believing the country was worth saving to believing there’s a greater value in the cosmic justice of letting this nation of idiots suffer all the worst consequences of their braindead politics and priorities.

For those of us who own guns, they are pretty sacred. They represent options that others don't have. Especially now, with criminals running rampant and food getting more expensive.
I'm actually somewhat optimistic about the future. The OICs are being challenged in the supreme Court, and because fuck the liberals. They can't have my guns. End of.
2
u/Strong_Independent21 12d ago
Public aren't sure with the messages from the Government. So many news and police interviews tell us that most of the guns in crimes, especially handguns are smuggled from the USA so then why focus on those Canadians that have taken courses about fun safety and have had background checks? The focus is political in my view. Even the way true handgun ban was brought in- not passed in the House of Commons.
2
u/SoldiersofChristBR 12d ago
They are coming for all the same stuff in the states. Ars, semis, handguns, etc.
Every country is following the same playback.
5
u/PrestigiousStatus711 12d ago
Gun rights are not important to most firearm owners in Canada and especially on the sub. It is part of the reason they are in the position they are in now. They are fine with it being a "privilege" that is slowly eroded to nothing. Just read the comments here.
3
u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 12d ago
I see a lot of comments here passing up on $900 SKS's or Carmel's because they're a ripoff. Why not spend a little extra to get your hands on a semi-automatic rifle
Lots of people have bought the Carmel and Makasi - pre-orders are sold out across the country.

u/xthemoonx 12d ago
I just use them for hunting. Bolt .22 works fine on grouse and pump shotgun for ducks and bolt action for big game. I dont really care much for semi autos. I only need 1 shot.
1
u/NecessaryRisk2622 12d ago
Nothing wrong with this take, at all. It’s your opinion. But you don’t support the bans, right?
1

oops my last comment i thought i was replying to a totally different msg lmao ya i dont support any bans. esp now with crazy south of the border threatening us.
0
u/WinterOrb69 12d ago edited 12d ago
I'm probably going to get some flak.
I didn't make guns part of my identity. So, I don't really care either way and I have some expensive guns.
20 years ago, the current government would have been considered Conservative. The political spectrum has shifted so far to the right it would make old leaders cringe. The current iteration of the Conservative party is in such a mess. The reform conservatives are the crazy ones and they're currently driving the bus. I lean progressive conservative and it's shocking the things that's coming out of the CPC.
The crazies were the ones flying Canada flags around during covid and now want nothing to do with Canada since the 51st state thing came up.
6
u/Due-Candidate4384 12d ago
Name these “shocking“ things you speak of. There is nothing by any objective measure coming from the CPC that is shocking. Shockingly boring maybe.
I don’t know how Canada came to be filled with so many alternate reality bubble people like yourself but I’m constantly amazed when I interact with one of you.
But I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise. You and most other Canadians are utter morons. Our telcos once convinced people like you that having US competition enter the telco market would be bad for Canadians, and you guys believed it. The party that spent 10 years looting Canada and crushing its most profitable industry just convinced you to give them more power and you happily obliged. Put simply, your judgment and your opinions are less than worthless, now go get those elbows up for papa Carney and worship his credentials some more like a good little Canadian.
0
u/WinterOrb69 12d ago edited 12d ago
All I mentioned was not making guns my identity and people ditching the flag. The shocker is the amount of infighting, disrespect and the Americanisation of our right wing. You're assuming things I didn't even say and you're proving my point about the infighting.
4
u/Due-Candidate4384 12d ago
Not wanting to be ruled by the Liberal party in perpetuity is not "Americanization" you small-minded child. Get Carney's elbow out of your ass.
7
u/PrestigiousStatus711 12d ago
Canada is full of firearm owners voting to have their firearms banned. Fucking embarrassing. Just hand them in early if you're going to vote to have them banned.
5
3
u/warlock_barack 12d ago
Well at least you got to enjoy your hobby before voting it away for future generations. That's basically what you're admitting, after all. You're excusing voting for the people disarming you by pitching the alternative as extremist.
Oh, and the COVID restrictions: how dare law-abiding citizens want to continue with their daily commerce despite the spread of a mild respiratory infection.
You're really a sacred patriot of your people, aren't you?
-4
u/WinterOrb69 12d ago edited 12d ago
You're making assumptions. I didn't mention who I voted for. I did mention which way I lean politically. It's people who default to this that makes me question my decisions.
2
u/Working_Brother7971 12d ago
I'm not speaking for all of us by any means but I don't think guns are "sacred" here, for the average gun owner. Most people I know who have guns have them as tools or sporting equipment, not some god-given holy crusader weapon. We don't generally use them as home defense, maybe in very deep country but mostly just varmint control, hunting, and sporting tools. Mind you, we still don't want those tools taken away, any more than a golfer wants his 9 iron banned. It's absolute clownshit, the government knows banning them does nothing to curb gun violence, but it's how liberals get voted into office so they ban it all away.
If a conservative government wins, I don't know how it works but reversing the bans might be tricky. They would absolutely stop banning more guns.
In the US, y'all definitely need guns. It's part of your country's founding, and the violence in your country pretty much demands self-defense. Here, it's getting worse, sure, but we're not at that point yet of needing to carry a pistol to protect life. I'm jealous, sure, but culturally we're just very different places when it comes to the need for self-defense.
2
u/Working_Brother7971 12d ago
Speaking on banning guns to "protect Canadians" 2 people were just killed a few blocks away from me today and a few more injured. Really feeling safe here with fewer responsible gun owners legally owning hunting rifles.
-6
u/Trilobyte83 12d ago
Guns cannot be used in self defence in Canada.
If it *happened* to be out for cleaning at the exact moment intruders came, with guns, then maybe you might get off, but still expect charges, public scrutiny, to have your guns temporarily if not permanently seized, and at least 20k in legal fees and able to put it behind you after 6 months. That’s the best case.
4
u/Working_Brother7971 12d ago
Self defense wasn't my point. The point was the government keeps banning guns "for our safety" yet somehow people keep getting shot.
1
u/PrestigiousStatus711 12d ago
Guns can absolutely be used for self defence in Canada.
2
u/Trilobyte83 12d ago
I’m obviously not saying no one’s ever defended themselves with a gun and legally prevailed. But If it could be proven that you bought, possessed, and had at the ready a gun primarily for the purpose of self defence, and used it for that, you would be in a legal shit storm. Little different than you can’t have knives or baseball bats *primarily for self defence*.
Ppl seem to be thinking I’m advocating this or saying it’s right-I’m not. I’m stating the legal reality that if you had heaps of posts online saying “better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6” advocating for your right to self defence with firearms, and prosecution pointed to that after you shot someone trying to rob you, you could very easily end up in jail for manslaughter and be facing an uphill battle since you had an attitude of “give me an excuse”.
Anything shown that was done for purposes other than hunting or sport, like keeping a trigger locked shot gun next to your night stand or door with the keys 6 inches away would be on you to prove it was reasonable- given that you can’t do so legally for the purpose of self defence.
I’m not sure why it’s confusing. Ppl seem unable to differentiate between stating whether or not a law is just, and stating what the law matter of factly says.
-1
u/Jay_Arrre 12d ago
That’s not at all true.
Canadian law states that you’re able to use whatever is available so long it is it is proportional to the threat level.
If somebody comes at you with a fly swatter, you can’t just cap their ass but if someone is lunging at you with a knife then deadly force is proportional.
3
u/sh9431 12d ago
I absolutely love the proportional force clause (said with much sarcasm). If a large grown man breaks into a small woman’s house with a fly swatter, what is proportional force? Only a gun or taser would level the playing field IMO but our laws would probably disagree. The lady would be charged, dragged through the court system for a crime she didn’t instigate and was minding her own business in her own home when said grown man entered. Sadly, Canada is a joke.
-1
u/Jay_Arrre 12d ago edited 12d ago
Yeah it’s dumb but that’s the law… Unfortunately I think even with a conservative government that defence laws would still be
inadequate. Polivers stand on guard bill would have been a step in the right direction but still came up a bit short imo.I think in terms of home defence we absolutely need castle law. If you are in my home, I feel intent to harm ought to be presumed.
Defence while just walking about would be a nightmare to get right as it’s a bit more ambiguous as to the aggressors intent. As much as I think concealed carry is cool, I don’t think I trust the vast majority of people to carry properly.
3
u/sh9431 12d ago
I used to believe the CPC would and could turn the boat around for Canada but I don’t anymore. When you remove Alberta/Saskatchewan votes from the national voter count, the percentage of Canadians who voted Liberal is higher than the percentage of Californians who voted democrat. Sadly, Canada is lost. Only provinces going their own way will keep “old school Canadian values” alive.
2
1
u/Trilobyte83 12d ago
How is it not true? There is example after example of ppl shooting home intruders only to face a years long 5 off not 6 figure battle for anything from unsafe storage trough second degree murder.
How would a gun be at the ready unless it was improperly stored? I’m not agreeing, I’m stating what some anti gun lawyer would say and make you defend against.
There’s no “let the DA review it and decide on no charges” like in the US.
1
u/airchinapilot 12d ago
The word is 'reasonable' which doesn't always equate to proportional.
0
u/Jay_Arrre 12d ago
Touché. However in most cases proportional is reasonable.
2
u/airchinapilot 12d ago
The reason why the proportional clause is in there is to account for the egregious cases of someone shooting an attacker who has the flyswatter.
However, people in these threads mistake proportionality as always being the case when the self defense law - which the Conservatives modified - has other clauses which can provide context which could help someone had to resort to the 'greater' weapon. Ex. the little old lady in a wheelchair who had to go for the gun because she was attacked by the hulking MMA fighter who broke into her home. With the right context, she gets off.
People in these threads always try to dumb it down.
1
u/Remote_Mistake6291 12d ago edited 12d ago
There are plenty of semi auto rifles available, they just aren't tacticool. Expensive guns are not worth the inflated prices. .22's are cope for some but they are a lot of fun, cheap to shoot and you don't ache for days after. I can shoot 500 rounds of .22 a day no problem, if I did that with a shotgun or .308, at my age my shoulder would be in agony. I love my guns, but I wouldn't call it sacred. Morale is down the drain at this point.
7
4
u/Jay_Arrre 12d ago
Plenty is being a bit reductive of what was banded. If you had 3m people in a city then a flood displaced 2.9m. The remaining 100k is still technically many; but let’s be real, the semi auto centerfire market got absolutely decimated.
2
u/PrestigiousStatus711 12d ago
Plenty? Anything from crusader or turkey don't count.
-1
u/Remote_Mistake6291 12d ago
Remington, Mossberg, Ruger, Browning, and so on. They are available. Because people don't like them doesn't change that.
1
u/Redbulldildo 12d ago edited 12d ago
For #1 because I got a Tula SKS for $300.
There's also lots of new Turkish stuff, which is cheap, but for the price, it's worth.
Guns aren't sacred per se, but the sanctity of my property is

"Why not spend a little extra to get your hands on a semi-automatic rifle since the vast majority of them are banned?"
Because an SKS isn't worth $1000. Just throwing your money in a hole because you want to pew-pew fast isn't reasonable (IMO).
"how sacred are guns to the average user here?"
A gun is a tool to me. It is as "sacred" as my impact driver. I'm not going to be using it to fight off a tyrannical government on my own (neither are you guys apparently;) ) so I don't build up gun ownership to that level.
"how is morale?"
Pretty low but I can Fudd out a bit and just focus on putting food on the table. Frankly, the increase in the price of ammo and reloading components is almost more of an issue right now anyways. Even if I could own and AR-10, I wouldn't be able to afford to shoot it much. I'll stick to bolt action.
1
u/ArisakaType99_ 12d ago
Q1.) I still think the Sks has lots of value, and deals can still be had on them. Basically every other centerfire semi auto has been banned, with the odd outlier.
Q2.) for me at least they are extremely important, and I have zero intention in taking part in any kind of buyback. I hope others feel the same way, but I know some fudds on here that don’t give a crap about guns, unless it is a type they deem appropriate.
Q3.) At an all time low for me, but it can always get worse, and will likely get worse if this party remains in power. Which is extremely likely, because your average Canadian is to busy eating up all the liberal propaganda 🤦

u/Crossed_Cross 11d ago
Why shit on the .22lr? Ammo is dirt cheap. It's nice to be able to shoot a lot without breaking bank.
I don't really care much for the bans and restrictions, these aren't guns I'm into, though I hate how the gov is just vibing it and banning shit on looks
1
u/AanenK 10d ago
IMO I would love to get into the hobby, and learn how to safely use a gun.
I keep seeing videos of Indian gangs and videos of them shooting. Def gets me worried if they continue to be reckless and lawless.
I don't have any motivation currently though. Too expensive and laws seem to be working in the opposite direction.

Canadian gun culture is lost forever thanks to Orange retard scaring the shit out of senile boomers to reelect and deliver Carney a majority. So thanks MAGA, and fuck you for destroying our way of life with your 51st state bullshit.

1: As others have said here, the pre-orders are long gone on both the Carmel and the Masaki. Only the poors or those without a decent credit limit on the CC didn't snag one.
2: Guns and firearm rights are a litmus test on how much the gov of the day trusts us. "Sacred" is too religious-y a term to use. More like Inherent Right.
3: Morale is in the dumps ATM. The State apparati is currently in the process of confiscating our firearms to *cough* compliant owners. The collection stations are up and running. If the Conservatives don't reverse the last 11 years of BS I'm tearing up my Party membership.

My take. Guns are tools for hunting and can also be used for target practice. No need for (semi)automatic weapons unless you're military or police. I think the buyback program is a waste of money, but think that all guns should be registered. Can't get a handgun, but don't even want one. Again, just my take - I just scroll on past posts complaining about the restrictions and how government is taking rights away. I am quite fond of my guns, but, they're not sacred in the spiritual or identity sense. My possession of and use of guns doesn't define me or drive my voting interests.
No quams about needing to get a PAL/RPAL as the approvals process was slow, but they sent it out quick when I checked in on its status.
Wish there were more places to shoot, or places with day passes, but thats fine, I've got plenty of places to shoot, just need to drive further.
On your 22's are just cope dig - I don't get why anyone in this community would ever shame someone for shooting a smaller caliber. Still need to secure the same approvals, have the same level of competence and situational awareness and even passion for shooting/hunting/ownership, etc.

u/PrestigiousStatus711 12d ago
"but think that all guns should be registered"
So the government can confiscate them later? Registration is just delayed confiscation. Your attitude is why Canadian firearm owners are facing bans and increasing restrictions.
"Wish there were more places to shoot"
Canadians would have more place to shoot if firearm owners weren't out wishing for more restrictions like registration and ignoring the complaints about increasing restrictions. If you made your possession of firearms a voting interest maybe you would have more places to shoot.

u/Due-Candidate4384 12d ago
How about you go look at the ban lists and tell me if any of those are “automatic weapons“ as you say.

u/The_King_of_Canada mb 12d ago edited 12d ago
I dont know what you mean by a majority of semi auto guns are banned and im assuming you dont either. .22s are for plinking and gopher hunting. Our gun culture is practical not a cope.
How sacred are guns? Theyre guns. Theyre things. The guns dont matter the history and cutlture and the sport matters. You americans need to stop pretending your 2nd amendment is anything more than a way for alt right nutjobs to get votes and NRA funding.
Morale? Why do you speak like we're soliders? Morale is low and noncompliance is high. Of course theres hope. Theres a supreme court case coming up and mass non-compliance will prove the OICs and handgun freeze to be a waste of time, money, and political capital.
For the conservative party to win they need a leader thats not complete shit. If PP wins we'd be just a little less fucked than you yanks are right now.
Also the idea of gun rights is really dumb. Saying you need the governments permission to overthrow the government is foolish and redundant.

u/warlock_barack 12d ago
Why is the idea of gun rights dumb? You're taking a hostile view towards the politicization of gun culture, but your government fired first when it decided to politicize against law-biding gun owners and carry out the will of a select few in Quebec and Montreal.
If the government didn't politicize the issue, you wouldn't have ended up with the OIC bans or bill C-21, because the so-called "compromises" (i.e., capitulations) of the 1990s already dramatically increased vetting of gun owners, and 85% of current handgun crime is conducted with illegally possessed firearms. Efficacious policy would address circulating, unregistered crime guns and their prohibited possessors.
Clearly, your pragmatic gun culture, as you might frame it, has not protected your community from relentless political attacks. What you need is politicization, a firm line in the sand, to stop further erosion.
If anything, you could learn from us Americans. We have fought and fought, in every court and legislature in our land, to retain our rights and it's still a difficult, oftentimes uphill struggle. Ask yourself this: if you don't even have the gun crime problems of the United States, why is your government so eager to disarm you?
The truth of the matter is: the PAL framework, the magazine restrictions, and most every other restriction you had even before 2020 are bullshit. You've just been so whipped and so caned by your lecturing politicians that the idea of having the freedom your grandfathers had gives you the feeling of resentment, because in lieu of that you would only have sadness and regret.
5
u/PrestigiousStatus711 12d ago
Couldn't agree more. Over three decades of increasing restrictions and Canadians will still talk about "privileges" and be absolutely against the idea of gun rights while the noose tightens more and more each year.
-1
u/The_King_of_Canada mb 12d ago
The difference is that for Canadians gun ownership is an aspect of our identity so we won't be reduced to nothing if it is removed. Americans have made their 2nd amendment their entire identity and are sacrificing everything else to keep it.
I don't like what the LPC is doing and we need to protest and we need mass non-compliance but we shouldn't sacrifice other rights for the sake of gun ownership like they're doing down south.
0
u/The_King_of_Canada mb 12d ago
What are you american? Why the fuck are you here? Canadian gun subs are for Canadians not american trolls spewing idiotic american rhetoric.
You're taking a hostile view towards the politicization of gun culture
You guys are proof that more guns = more crime and violence. Are you trying to say that guns aren't political? EVERYTHING IS POLITICAL. Are you detached from reality?
because the so-called "compromises" (i.e., capitulations) of the 1990s already dramatically increased vetting of gun owners, and 85% of current handgun crime is conducted with illegally possessed firearms. Efficacious policy would address circulating, unregistered crime guns and their prohibited possessors.
Yea agreed. But it's not your place to say.
has not protected your community from relentless political attacks
What it has accomplished is a lower crime rate than you guys.
What you need is politicization, a firm line in the sand, to stop further erosion.
And we will do it without americans sticking their noses, their money, and their shit politics into it.
Ask yourself this: if you don't even have the gun crime problems of the United States, why is your government so eager to disarm you?
This is typical american rhetoric. They aren't trying to disarm us. They are trying to appease special interest groups with money.
If anything, you could learn from us Americans.
Fucking lol. Learn what? How to elect a sex offender? How to strip your peoples of every freedom in the books? A woman in Florida was arrested for terrorism for saying deny defend depose your next to her insurance company.
Flock surveillance cameras are scanning faces, cars, license plates, and identifying features of every vehicle and person in your country to track everybody's movement.
People say the UK is the knife crime capital of the world but american knife crime per capita is nearly double. Tack on top of that gun crime and your country has the WORST crime rates of any developed nation and even some developing nations.
You speak of freedom yet your country hasn't ranked top 10 in the international freedom index in my lifetime.
You've fought? You haven't fought shit. You're a keyboard warrior. The NRA won lawsuits and then immediately shit on your own gun owners regarding bumpstocks and suppressors in Trumps first term.
Fuck the 2nd amendment doesn't make any sense. Seriously why do you need the federal governments permission to overthrow the federal government? Isn't it's very existence redundant? Doesn't it set the bar so low that your politicians can get elected just by saying they protect gun rights? Then if you try to use those "rights" to rush the Capitol or shoot Trump those same politicians hide behind their armed security while they cut you down.
Can you americans grow up and realize that you don't actually have gun rights?
Still I would rather suffer our politics surrounding this hobby, this one aspect of my life, that I love than deal with the shitstorm that you guys have down south.

u/warlock_barack 12d ago
Okay, bub. If you want to incorporate every reflexively negative thought you harbor towards America against my specific argument that your gun owners are mistreated by your government, then I will reciprocate in kind.
First, your country has weak constitutional protections in general, not just with respect to firearms. You do not have as robust of speech protections, and your Canadian Charter of Freedom is full of deferential language that allows the government to impinge on even supposedly guaranteed rights.
Second, you note the issue of mass surveillance in the United States by way of mentioning data collection by Flock cameras. We do have institutionalized (e.g., via PATRIOT Act) and private surveillance, but arguably surveillance is even worse in other parts of the Anglo-sphere, such as in the UK. While I have not studied the issue intensely, I am aware of the currently debated bill C-22 and the 2001 and 2015 Anti-Terrorism Act(s) passed in your country. So, your country does have a surveillance infrastructure and an interest in increasingly monitoring its citizens. Whether you respond to C-22 with the same outrage as Flock cameras located in another country remains to be seen.
Third, your economy is much less powerful or diversified compared to the United States. Your GDP per capita is lower while your housing prices are significantly higher, and your government hardly seems interested in stabilizing a housing market that has been outpacing wages for decades. While these trends are familiar to us, they are exacerbated somehow in Canada.
So, while I do not enjoy making tit-for-tat comparisons, especially because I still like Canada and was in Toronto as recently as 2024, I do think your moral superiority is unfounded.
Now, for clarification. You say I haven't fought for gun rights. Well, I have fought for my gun rights. I left my home state of Washington specifically because of its anti-gun turn in 2022/2023. I have written my legislature in the past, I have commented on the Federal Register (when ATF proposed changes to rules), and I have donated to pro-gun groups (SAF, FPC, etc). I doubt you can say you've fought for any right or idea that hard.
Finally, you frame the second amendment as a purely government-phobic right. Twice now, you have insisted, that it is silly to ask the government for a right that protects you from the government. The second amendment is a right that allows us to keep and bear arms for the purpose of lawful self defense and common defense against all enemies foreign or domestic. It is first about defense, though people own guns for all sorts of reasons familiar to Canadians (e.g., sporting, hunting, pest control, etc).
Where your hostility comes from I have no clue.

u/PrestigiousStatus711 12d ago
He is just extremely anti-American. Ask him why more Canadians move to America than Americans to Canada!
0
u/The_King_of_Canada mb 12d ago
You do not have as robust of speech protections
Yes we do. We've had numerous supreme court cases set down precedent to support our freedom of expression. You don't know what you're talking about.
C-22 is not law and is being heavily neutered because Canadians know what it will do. As you said your patriot act is already law and grants your government more powers than the original C-22 would. You don't know what you're talking about.
Third, your economy is much less powerful or diversified compared to the United States.
The economy argument is a shit argument. The US is the richest country in the world and has 10 times our population. We know. That means 2 things. 1. your vote matters less. 2. your politicians are all bought and paid for. You guys make judges and sheriffs campaign for office which shoves them right into the pocket of their campaign donors.
Guess what bud? Might doesn't make right anymore.
Our housing prices are the same when you factor in the dollar difference. Bud housing is a global issue at the moment or do you just not pay attention? You don't know what you're talking about.
I do think your moral superiority is unfounded
No. It really isn't. Not with the amount of bodies your country has at it's feet. You don't know what you're talking about.
All your 2nd amendment has done is arm the drug deals, gang bangers, biker gangs, and rapists. And armed the ones in the countries to the north and south of you. You nuts always say you need it to protect yourself from tyranny then put the boot directly on your neck when it also hurts people you don't like.
Where your hostility comes from I have no clue.
You cunts continuously invading our spaces threatening our lives and our country shitting on our culture and way of life. You clearly don't know what you're talking about.

u/CapThePunch98 12d ago
I love reading comments like this. It only reaffirms to me how much Canadians like you need to shit on our politics in order to cope with your even shittier politics.
You're not actually mad at the US. You're mad at your own government, but you need to project. I get it dude.

u/The_King_of_Canada mb 12d ago
Your president keeps threatening to annex us which means he would kill or maim my brother who serves in the military.
I know exactly who I'm fucking mad at. Your country needs to be restarted.

Your attitude towards gun rights is exactly why Canadian gun owners are in the position they are in. When it is a privilege it will be eroded by the government bit by bit until you are begging to use a bolt action rifle that gets locked up at the range.

My attitude towards gun rights is why our crime rates are lower that the states.
The idea of gun rights is foolish. The idea behind the 2nd amendment is foolish. I'll say it here in caps.
YOU DON'T NEED GOVERNMENTAL PERMISSION TO OVERTHROW THE GOVERNMENT.
It's idiotic and redundant.

You seem out of touch. Are you even Canadian? This sub seems to be brigaded by Americans or people pretending to be Canadian these days. You seem to not understand our gun culture.
Everyday i see more and more opposition to the OICs and the handgun transfer freeze. To the economic loss of billions of dollars. I see less and less ignorance of our gun laws and how these new bans achieve nothing. I refuse to be another pessimist bitching and moaning on this sub.
All we need is a decent conservative politician or to give Carney a wake up call.
But you do you.
1
u/PrestigiousStatus711 12d ago
I grew up in Canada and spent a good chunk of my adult life in Canada. I understand Canadian gun culture very well. It is you that is out of touch. You really cannot figure out why your "privilege" has been eroded for over 30 years?
What did the last Conservative majority do for firearm owners other than remove the long gun registry? You really think the next will do more? Then what will the next Liberal majority or NDP backed minority do? They will ban them all again (and half of this sub will be voting for it). If the Liberals can't do it via OIC then they will with legislation. Carney getting a wake up call? With Provost as a sitting MP? That is beyond hopeful and bordering on delusional. Carney has had plenty of chances to drop this all and he hasn't.
But you do you.
-1
u/The_King_of_Canada mb 11d ago
So you are out of touch and you aren't affected by any of this. Good to know that your opinion is less than worthless here.
1
u/PrestigiousStatus711 11d ago
I was very affected by what happened in Canada. People like you are why I left. You might as well hand in your guns now since you do not have what it takes to keep them for future generations. Keep begging the government to let you own a semi auto. The Conservatives will surely save your "privilege"
0
u/The_King_of_Canada mb 11d ago
Congrats you left for a shithole with the worst crime rates in the developed world.
The same country that is always restricting your own "rights" not to mention gun "rights" with the backing and support of the NRA.
The US is a 2nd world country with money.

u/dennisrfd 12d ago
- People are different. The guns are important for the hunters, rural folks, rare enthusiast, and the average metro Canadian doesn’t have/need one.
- Our conservatives are pro-maga, incompetent people who I hope stay in opposition forever. We had a shitty government before that played with leftist and Quebec anti-gun lobby but now they are gone. We have centrist government in power, pragmatic and patriotic. Still, anti-Canadian forces (including china, usa, russia) are trying to influence the simple-minded people and create this opposition to the government. But you can see that Carney still has a lot of support and more and more ex-conservatives are now turned to liberal party.
3
u/PrestigiousStatus711 12d ago
You are why Canadians have gun bans. Provost is a MP and you think this government isn't in bed with the same anti gun lobbyists? Everyday I come on this subreddit I know Canadian firearm ownership will die a slow death.

SKS is usually picked because of its cheap ammo. You used to be able to get an sks for $200 and a crate of 1100 rounds for like $300. The ammo is still cheap, rifle not so much, there also isn’t many options that are non restricted and that cheap.
Sacred? Idk, when I had to abandon my house once for a flood. I grabbed my computer and my guns. Take that how you will. They are just possessions, if you take the time to get a license generally you are going to appreciate and value them
We can only hope the Supreme Court kills the OIC bans, but we would need a conservative government to repeal the handgun freeze.
Even if the cpc wins, they might not repeal it, who knows. The last election should have been a win but in my opinion trump lost it for him. Canadians wanted to avoid being American at all costs.
Our public safety minister who is heading up the ban openly admitted on a hidden recording that it’s a sham to buy votes among other things. Then he turns to the cameras after and still pushes for it. I’m not holding my breath sadly.
