Misc American here with a few questions

I'm not trying to gloat or anything like that, just genuinely curious about Canadians and how they're feeling about guns, gun rights, and gun purchases. You guys were clearly given the shaft when it comes to guns.

Question 1: I see a lot of comments here passing up on $900 SKS's or Carmel's because they're a ripoff. Why not spend a little extra to get your hands on a semi-automatic rifle since the vast majority of them are banned? I feel like I would if I were in your shoes. 22's are just cope imo.

Question 2: how sacred are guns to the average user here?

Question 3: how is morale? Do you guys have hope for the future? If a conservative PM wins, do you think he'll unban a lot of shit?

  1. The SKS is incredibly popular because of 2 things: First, they used to be incredibly cheap years ago, so lots of people bought them. Secondly, as you already mentioned, they are now one of the only semi-autos out of a handfew that are currently legal. For me personally, in the current economy, with how expensive everything is, I can’t justify buying an SKS at current prices. It’s just too absurdly expensive. I’d rather save up and buy a quality rifle like a tikka t3x eventually. I’m sure opinions will vary and those with the means to splurge will have no issues with buying an Sks at the ridiculous price that it is now.

  2. For many, guns is their identity, for others, it’s their livelihoods, or just a hobby. For me personally, I just want to be a good shooter and I view my weapons as a tool. But within this community in Canada, you will absolutely find many individuals that view gun rights as sacred, just like the US. But in the general public, gun rights might as well not exist in Canada. Most Canadian voters don’t even know what our gun rights are.

  3. Morale is incredibly low, but we do have a slither of hope. The current restrictions are being challenged at the Supreme Court soon and if successful, we might be able to reverse a lot of nonsense from the past few years.
