Misc What’s your one firearm that got away?
Whether it was because the model ceased being produced, it was OIC’d the night before or a gunpost deal that fell through.
What’s your one firearm that got away?

u/New-Replacement-2352 May 13 '26
A P90, I didn’t get my RPAL until just after it was banned. That was a heart breaker. If it’s ever unbanned it’ll be the very first thing I buy.
15
u/dgod40 May 13 '26
As much as I love the p90 from Stargate, the $1/round is a hefty price.
14
u/New-Replacement-2352 May 13 '26
It is pricey, it would be a lot worse if we had uncapped 50 round mags though lol. To just have one would be enough for me, it’s iconic.
12
u/SSjGuitarist May 13 '26
That’s why I couldn’t pull the trigger on one. I’ve always wanted one since n64 goldeneye days, but seeing the transparent plastic mag with 5 rounds in it, broke my heart

u/Substantial-Onion-92 May 13 '26
Non restricted PS90 would have been the better buy anyway... Then have a spare 10in barrel sitting in the safe.

CZ Bren 2 and Tavor X95
And I regret it everyday

I said fuck it, my X95 is going on the credit card
YOLO
I missed out on an ar15 of some form

A shame you lost your X95 in that boating accident. Sorry, bro.
12
u/SmokingWill May 13 '26
It actually got lost when some goons robbed my house when I was conveniently out of town
3
15
u/OCTS-Toronto May 13 '26
I bought the bren2 to replace the x95 that I sold and regretted it. Bren was a fine firearm, but the ergos on the x95 were stellar. Match It with a eotech and cross mags and the thing was amazing.
Both were great but the x95 was peak in my opinion. If I had more time to shoot the Bren before it was banned I might have a different opinion
→ More replies (1)6
u/EnvironmentBright697 May 13 '26
X95/Bullpup haters in the chat downvoting you. I love my X95. It’s as short as my 10.3 MK18 with a flash can but with a 18.5” barrel.
9
u/jayecal May 13 '26
Another +1 to the CZ Bren 2. I wanted one in 7.62x39. I had it in my cart (along with a ps90) the night rumors about the bans were circulating and was waffling on whether to buy one or both. I really couldn't have afforded both. Even one might have been a stretch. They were both about $2400. I ended up just waiting and then both sold out.

The fact a government that continues to pass authoritarian legislation doesn't want us to own them makes them priceless. Money well spent.

I had the chance to get a West German Police Sig Sauer P226 with some minor wear on it for $450 in 2019 and I passed.
I regret it every time I go to the range.

u/lerch_up_north lost in the praries May 13 '26
I used to have a P226 from 1984, and regret selling it. That gun was slick.
42
u/StrongBreak2142 May 13 '26
Handguns in general. Still frustrated that people who got handguns can still use them in the range but my 22lr GSG is stuck on the safe.
14
u/Rogan403 May 13 '26
As someone with both those things, I feel your pain, the fact I can't shoot my gsg but can shoot my ruger mark iv 22/45 right now is all sorts of stupid.

Jericho 9mm. I had my license but my partner at the time didn’t like guns so the 2022 handgun “buy by” date came and went and I missed out (relationship only lasted another 5 months from clear differences). Next time if I get the chance, I’m not missing it.
5
u/StevenMcStevensen al May 13 '26
I actually had a Jericho one as well kinda - once the handgun freeze started, and people started buying up everything that was still available, I ordered an old Jericho from some retailer out east. I already had a bunch of handguns, including a CZ75, but I always thought they were kinda cool so I figured I might as well grab one.
Anyways I eventually got an email from the retailer that their shitty website was actually wrong and they didn’t have any to sell me, by which point there were none available anywhere else. I was pissed, since I could have ordered it from a different store in the first place but now there were none left.
4
u/Vintage_Pieces_10 May 13 '26
I would’ve been so mad at that. I legit never would’ve shopped at that store again (hopefully you haven’t). Sorry to hear we’re both in the no Jericho boat
4
u/StevenMcStevensen al May 13 '26
I hadn’t before then, and indeed I have not since.
I honestly haven’t bought many new firearms since then at all, since handguns were my main interest and the one rifle I picked up in the last few years, planning to get into longer-range shooting, got banned after I only used it twice. Eat shit Trudeau.
3
u/EliteDuck May 13 '26
Not really on the top of my buy list, but I will admit it would be cool owning the gun from Cowboy Bebop.
2
u/BrickLegal May 13 '26
Wish I didnt read this one too. Always wanted one of the IWI Chrome Jericho.

During the Canada Post Christmas strike, I made a deal online for a Type 81. We agreed that I’d pay half upfront so the seller could hold it until the strike ended and he was able to ship it. Before the strike was resolved, the OiC came into effect, and the seller could no longer legally send me the rifle.
I’ve pre-ordered a MAKASI MK-15 to make up for the loss, but it’s still not the same.

Ruger GP100 6 inch. Wanted a revolver badly but was on a student budget. Bought a used gen 5 glock 17 and a tokarev tho! The revolver would of been just one day of overtime now.

A legit 1897 trench gun that was for sale for a song. Went home to do a little more research to confirm it was legit, did so, came back the next day and was sold. Two days later a guy posted it up on here to show it lol little extra salt on the wound but I’m happy for him.
6
u/Eisenbahn-de-order May 13 '26
Think about all the milsurp semi autos form WWII era that's "too dangerous for your average joe" and had to be banned 🙄
6
u/swift_gilford May 13 '26
The Norinco 1911s that were $300 that "i could not justify spending the money on it at this time"
7
u/Scary-Detail-3206 May 13 '26
My buddy bought one of those and Canada post just left it sitting on his doorstep lol. Signature required my foot
5
u/swift_gilford May 13 '26
I've had stuff that was "do not safe drop", safe dropped.
I've had stuff that was signature required be left without a signature.
I've had stuff not requiring signature, for some reason brought to the post office.
I've had drivers walk up to my door with the 'not at home notice' slips as their first attempt to which i need to confront them at the door and ask them where my package is for them to say "oh i rang the doorbell and no one came". Fun fact: I have a doorbell motion camera.
Recently I've had "notice left" slips show up on my door the day after I've already picked up my item at the post office the day before due to digital tracking. Again fun fact: I have a doorbell motion camera.
I'm at the point where i have 0 sympathy for Canada Post. The next time my item says delivered and there's no proof of said delivery I'm issuing claims.
2
u/Whispersfine May 13 '26
UPS is not better. Shotgun was delivered with a signature from someone, certainly not me.
2
u/Vikare_ May 14 '26
If it makes you feel any better, a guy at my gun club has been running one at the action shooting practice I go to and it's a real piece of shit.

5
u/Rick_bo May 13 '26
I've got revolvers and levers in .38/357, and when the handgun ban was on the way I happened across a post for a .357 desert eagle. The asking price was a bit steep but within my price range and it would have been cool to add one to the collection, particularly in a calibre I already stock. But I hummed and hawed too long and lost the chance to buy one.
(there was also the 6-Unica I saw in MN, but that Unicorn was $15k plus the border transfer headache)
2
u/cumbrad May 13 '26
A Mateba 6 Unica repro is in the works, including the Canada legal Grifone carbine but it’s gonna be a while and they won’t be cheap…

Those have been banned since the 1970s, but we were at least able to get the Type-81 and CZ-858 as semi-auto cope-AKs until the LPC and their Poly/CGC lapdogs fucked everything up in 2020.
3
u/Vikare_ May 14 '26
I remember people liked to shit all over the type 81s calling them slightly fancier sks's at twice the price.
Now that we only have SKS' and no type 81s, I really miss mine. Getting an SKS setup to use reliable, detachable mags looks expensive and requires some work.

I can’t believe how far I had to scroll for this. The Stag 10 was an excellent semi-auto hunting option that would also be fun at the range. I planned to buy one but held off and then it got banned.
I wish someone would come out with an alternative like the MK-15 coming for the 5.56 crowd.
4
5
u/cdn_sentry117 May 13 '26
Really wish I would have gotten an AR-15, P90, and a CZ Shadow.
Getting a few more $200 SKS's back in the day and a few $300 SVT 40s is a big regret too.
Regardless of what they may or may not ban, it won't stop me from making any future purchases.
3
u/Vikare_ May 14 '26
Any sort of ar15 and a cz shadow also for me.
Didn't get my PAL til Dec 2020 and it was too late. I did at least get a chance to panic buy 4 handguns so there's that.

5
u/EnvironmentBright697 May 13 '26
Worst was the one I didn’t buy, Stag-10. Wish I had of gotten a receiver set when they were going for $750. One that I sold and regret was a USP45. There was also a smoking deal on a H&K MK23 on CGN I passed on during the handgun rush before the freeze I still regret not taking.
6
4
u/sketchcott May 13 '26
CZ 527 in either caliber.
Cheaper center fire caliber, box magazine, factory iron sights, and a timeless look. I'm double upset because Alberta recently changed the hunting regs to allow .223, so that version would have made a nice little practical rifle that would be fun for target shooting but also maybe decent for a white tail.
4
u/Flat-Dark-Earth Big Bore Specialist May 13 '26
I snagged one of those in 7.62, I think it was the last shipment that Tenda brought in.

CZ 75 Kadet. Buddy of mine was moving overseas and was selling off his collection and he offered to sell the Kadet to me. My thought was "I already have a regular CZ 75 in 9mm, why do I need another in 22LR?"
I still think about that Kadet some days...

Had a 9mm Kriss Vector in my cart and was gonna buy it when payday came around. Then it got banned :(
4

Why was I too cheap to buy that 22 revolver?
$350, a month of poverty eating and I'd have it forever.
4
u/numbdigits May 13 '26
Someone already mentioned the other gun I was going to list, so I'll say a Marlin 1895 Trapper/SBL/GS.
Still completely available, but not a chance in hell I'm paying what is being asked for one these days. Should have bought many years back when they were reasonably priced.

For me it was the Smith and Wesson FPC and the Keltex RDB. Both got away because of bans.
The FPC, I loved the look of, and how compact it is compared to other pccs. Having the magazine in the grip like a pistol easily saves several inches in overall length, making it feel like a 15-16 inch barrel vs the 18.6 inch barrel rifles. And then it folds up smaller!!!
Plus the price. 1k at the time, plus a carrying case and 3 magazines?? What a deal!!!!
The RDB was further on my purchase list. The 1500 dollar price Tag was harder to swallow, but a cool space looking bullpup was right up my star wars loving alley. Add in those short pistol mags and it was almost a blind mag and didn't look like a bullpup, just a really short SBR rifle. I also don't own any 223 rifles.
So yeah, those two guns I missed out on. Perhaps I'm lucky, I didn't buy them and have 2.5k in paperweights, but I wish I had them
3
u/CurrentStructure7960 May 13 '26

M1 Carbine. I had one, it malfunctioned right out the box testing at the range, thankfully they sent it back and were able to give me store credit, so I got an sks with a folding stock and a couple mags for it with the store credit. Was planning on buying another M1 Carbine to replace it but nope...🤦
3
u/EvanAzzo May 13 '26
The first one that comes to mind is a Walther PPK with a restricted barrel for $400 that someone else got to first.
A Beretta 92g Elite 2 in 9mm that was priced for $900. I just didn't have the money at the time.
An Inglis Hi-Power for $550 someone else beat me to

Revolvers, a Type 81, and M1 Carbine. Was messaging a guy on Gunpost for a Type 81 and before he got back to me they were banned. Handguns because I was too young to get my license in time to buy one (I applied for my PAL on my 18th birthday, and it was a few months after my 19th that I actually got it). M1 Carbines were just something on my bucket list of neat guns I wanted to own.

u/Infinite_Price_3550 May 13 '26
PS90. Didnt get my RPAL because of the hand gun ban. Then one day on gunpost just looking for fun i found one that didn't have the silly looking 16' barrel on it, it was the proper 10' barrel. So nice. wish i could have got it. No is banned. RIP

u/Ok_Rush_246 May 13 '26
S&W model 41. I’ve had a couple Rugers over the years, they both had crappy accuracy. I wanted a really accurate 22 pistol. Missed the boat on that one

u/TheExperianceGuy on May 13 '26
Colt 1911 in stainless, I was working at a local gun store when the pistol ban came through, people came in droves to buy up every pistol they could everything from desert eagles in 50ae all the way down to the cheapest Girsan 22lr we had in stock, it was close the end of my shift. I was counting down the minutes to buy my pistol then a customer came in 30 minutes before the end of my shift and bought the last one.

Had my eye on a Chiappa Rhino.
License renewal coming up, figure I'll wait until after I get my renewal back. Takes 9 months to get a renewal. During which time, my license expired, which wasn't a big deal because the paperwork was in progress.
However during that time, the OIC came down. Missed out on all the hot sales of Pistols before the transfer ban.
Am sad, One day I'll have my space gun.

Had a nice Mark V Deluxe in 460 Weatherby that cost a whole lot of money, that tanked in value overnight when it got put on the list.
Not exactly what you’re asking but that pissed me off to no end
2
u/StevenMcStevensen al May 13 '26
Gun store I went to had a Steyr GB on consignment for like $850 I think. One of the pistols I always wanted most specifically, just because it’s so cool and mechanically interesting.
But at the time I didn’t have tons of money available to blow and figured I shouldn’t buy another 9mm that I probably wasn’t actually going to shoot much.
Also the old but really nice Colt Official Police in .38 Special that they had at one point, think it was only like $400. Again, already had a nice .357 and couldn’t justify it to myself.
2
u/ThePoeticJester May 13 '26
M1941 Johnson rifle in mostly good condition minus a broken firing pin. It was only $2,400 which if you know these guns is a pittance. It was alot of money for them at the time and I left it and when I quit being a bitch to just drop the cash.. gone as youd expect. Now they haunt me floating around the $10,000 low end
Also I should have gotten my K31 back when they were $300, great guns but shit man as soon as they dried up at wholesale sports and shit they went to the moon and ammo for under $2/round is scarce
2
u/mitchumz May 13 '26
The 150 dollar SKS. I mean I have an SKS, but I think I would have liked that one more

Ruger GP100 in 357 mag with the long barrel. I had my mind on this revolver for a few years, but because budget never bought it. Then one day I had the budget to buy it, decided to upgrade my motorcycle instead and decided to wait a few months before buying the revolver. A month later, all pistol/revolver sales are banned. Was so pissed at myself to have waited that long. Never take what you have now for granted to push back decisions!

LGS had a Ruger PCC and a Hipoint 9mm in stock right after the announcement. Went to buy the Ruger and just missed. Took the Hipoint home anyways just to at least own any PCC. Never shot it, probably never will.

Mossberg MVP Patrol. By the time I decided to pull the trigger my range sold out. Been waiting since August 2022, at this point I've given up. Runner-up would be a barely used Colt Python. Local shop owner offered me his old Python for $1800 as he'd placed an order for the new production Python.

Colt Single Action Army, or a Ruger Vaquero with a 4-5/8” barrel. I was too slow on a few of them right before the ban.

This would likely be a very long list without pretty specific parameters.
I’ll keep it down to guns I was ready to order just before legislation prevented me from doing so.
There were two:
S&W 929 Jerry Miculek Performance Centre revolver. This is arguably the firearm that dominates IPSC revolver division. At least it’s the revolver which can be bought in a “ready to compete state” in that division. I’m a standard division shooter, but I have other guns which can be shot in the other divisions. I’d like to have the ability to shoot all the divisions and I have all but two. This brings me to…
An Infinity Open gun in 38 Super. I was just perusing CRAFM for what they had, and had fondled a few at nationals. I figured if I were going to take the plunge I might as well go all the way.
There are so many more I wish I could own just because I want to own a major piece of firearm history. AK-47, PPSH, G43, and STG-44 would be a few examples. But this list would get pretty long pretty quickly if it weren’t for ridiculous Canadian gun laws.

Norinco NZ75, with the weird slide mounted safety. CZ 75 Champion that I was literally in the process of checking out on the website and someone bought it.

There was a Sjogren shotgun for a decent price that popped up in the maritimes, but I didn't have the funds at the time. I've never seen another one come up for sale.

At a gun show this guy had a beautiful Ruger no1 in 375, but it was 1200 bucks... I couldn't afford it at the time and figured I could get it the next year.
The next year came and he still had it, but it was 2500 now... Couldn't justify it. Figured I'd get it one day...
Now I can't find these anywhere... And the Ruger no1s I can find aren't in the calibers I want

Handguns. I never got my RPAL when I had the chance 15 years ago. I wanted at least a couple.

I saw a ruger gunsite scout in left hand for 1100 on gunpost recently and it sold before I could get it. Seriously regret it now

Ordered two Winchester 22 lever guns when Winchester stopped producing them.
Kept one in the box and shot one a bit with the intent on hading them down to my kids one day if I ever had kids.
Then hard times hit and I had to sell them.
Now that I have kids I regret it deeply

Literally any handgun...
My buddy was trying to sell me a really nice 1911...
When they announced the freeze deadline, between my friend and I we tried for weeks to get through and never did. We tried everyday, 2-3 times per day.
Now I will never own a handgun, as intended by the govt.

A hard chrome Desert Eagle with 50 AE and 357 magnum barrels. The friend I was shopping with was faster with his Visa.

Only one I missed out on was a ar15. I have about 30 firearms and technically only 5 of them are not banned. I waited a year to send in my paper work and over that time period all the bans started happened. Actually just got the law of my unobtainium rifle a few weeks ago. 45-70 marlin trapper from a gun shop that was closing down

Every handgun. I was just a bit too late.
Also missed out on a Pedersoli trapdoor thanks to the seller having terrible communication.
