Finally finished my makeshift Amazon only gun locker for my apartment. It’s obviously not built to keep a determined person or a fire out but it keeps me legal. Total cost was $320.

there’s people who are perfectly happy to spend tens of thousands to get the most robust safe they can find or to build dedicated vaults, and power to them. There are many others who simply (sometimes even begrudgingly) only look to meet the legal minimums and don’t give a crap about anything beyond. And power to them as well.
Dude, no one is impressed with your 500 lb Cabela's POS safe. It is a glorified cabinet. A true safe of that size with a 5" steel door would be thousands of pounds. These "safes" take MINUTES to defeat. Do some research and give your head a shake.
Buddy no one is coming into my house. This safe is more than enough to keep kids, family members out. And keep my guns in a temperature controlled environment. And I only posted it because your clown ass was saying you need to spend 3000$ for a “good” safe. I spent 800$ for a great safe that does the job extremely well compared than your gym locker. Clown

Fair, but I think OP is referring to the quality/cost of what’s in there. He’s choosing quantity over value which in most cases, a great choice. I also think that Reddit (not this sub thankfully) is unfairly harsh on posters. So self-deprecation is how many start their posts.
The (c) clause is weirdly complex as it explains two scenarios in one sentence
5 (1) An individual may store a non-restricted firearm only if
(a) it is unloaded;
(b) it is
(i) rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device,
(ii) rendered inoperable by the removal of the bolt or bolt-carrier, or
(iii) stored in a container, receptacle or room that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into; and
(c)it is not readily accessible to ammunition, unless the ammunition is stored, together with or separately from the firearm, in a container or receptacle that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into.
Scenario one: The non-restricted firearm must not be readily accessible to ammunition. Except if the ammunition is stored together with the firearm in a container that is locked and can't be broken into. Which is okay if you followed 5(1)(b)(iii)
(c) it is not readily accessible to ammunition, unless the ammunition is stored, together with or separately from the firearm, in a container or receptacle that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into.

Basically the only illegal way to store a non-restricted firearm with ammo, is if you trigger lock the firearm (i), or remove the bolt (ii) and leave ammo next or "readily accessible" to the firearm.
Locking a firearm up in a container satisfies clause (c) entirely, except for the explosives act which basically states you can't leave ammo lying around willy nilly.
If ammo is kept in an ammo box (try to be as non-descript as possible) with a lock on it, that'll likely suffice if it's in the same storage area as the firearms.
I'm feeling glad, I gave a 12 gun safe, and it's actually likely going to fit 12 or even more!!!
My advice and what seems to be helping?
Scoped rifles are the biggest issue, I've heard about alternating barrel up and barrel down. Or alternate scope gun and a non scoped gun.
Otherwise, I've noticed the scopes force the gun at a wider angle with the normal slots, but if you can put in slots that stick out more, they hold the guns more vertical and can accommodate the scopes better. That's what I'm planning on doing to make mine even a little bit better.
Yeah mine only has a few slots for scoped and some of my bolts/lever are too short for the other slots so they tend to lean into each other it’s a headache so next up gun room lol realistically more like reinforced gun closet I ain’t rich hahahaha
I feel ya! Like I'm thinking next I might hang some bolt actions above the Safe, and just keeping the bolts in the safe. That's enough to open up the Safe a bit.
You ever look into those velcro plastic rods? Like the velcro goes on top of the Safe and then the plastic Rods velcro down from there into the gun barrels. Then the long and the short ones all stay in place. I'm considering trying some of them
For your shorter barrel rifles, go to any hardware store and buy wooden dowling that fits loosely inside the barrel, cut to a length that will help support it. In the slots. No more leaning and it won't damage your barrels.
Mine’s that messy, but not quite as full. I think anyone getting upset with the “for the poors” comment is counting, not inspecting. I know what you’re saying, but nice safe, nice collection…and until we’re rich, I’ll always take one decent gun in every shape and calibre over a few $5k-$50k collector’s pieces. Levelling up one by one is what getting old is for. Last thing, putting all of your eggs in one basket with this government is a terrible idea anyway. You’re doing it right IMHO 💪🏼

Ya that exposed padlock might be pushing the envelope. The cheap gun cabinets are considered legal, but they have an integral locking mechanism. I wouldn’t want to have to argue this one in court
Exposed padlock is good enough for a safe. It was argued in court in R v barnes (2011 Ontario) which laid out that a school locker locked with a pad lock is a safe for gun laws.
Yeah padlock was not really the problem here. The whole construction is. You push that thing on its side and it would probably explode in pieces. Imo it is pushing the limit of what is legal. But still looks nice.
You can display non restricted firearms on the wall of your home with a gun lock (and no ammo displayed alongside). These people humming along to “that doesn’t look legal” are an absolute -gas-
I can’t imagine investing thousands in firearms and not taking the time to get a quality safe. I couldn’t sit peacefully knowing they weren’t as secured
With cordless tools none of the gun cabinets and most of the safes are secure. Hate to say it but someone wants into your safe with a couple hundred bucks of tools they are in.
I dunno what cabinet prices are now but $320 might’ve got you something obviously not safe or vault quality but we got an 18 gun one cheapish and the oldest (26) got an 8 for like $100 might’ve been too long ago now since everything gun related costs an arm, leg and first born child now lol. I’d be worried stacking them all that close together, it will damage rifles pulling them in and out (I dented my wooden stock Henry 22, so I know and you have more then I do). I commend your efforts though, it also looks inconspicuous lol.
Top and bottom shelf are organized. Gun collection has decent models of all types -- storage is a bit packed but lighting is really good. Safely stores his whole collection.
