Misc Found the RCMP firearms licensing place
Found where our licenses are processed. Right next door to the dollararma.

Meh i rather they dont spend money on an expensive office building downtown with no parking. Im fine w find cheap locations for gov iffices

Agreed. I'm just surprised it wasn't its own building. Btw down town Miramishi is really tiny. Tallest building is 3 stories.

It used to be in its own building, expanded into another building across the street. And I’m not sure why it ended up moving into the Miramichi Mall.

Once you actually talk to someone the firearms people are a breath of fresh air. I like how we aren't spending a boat load of money on offices. Who cares where they are.

Ironically, the CFP itself (not my provincial CFO office) has the best call centre experiences out of all the government agencies I've had the (dis)pleasure calling in Canada.
Had to help a family member to get his PAL application reopened for certain reasons, and the first lady who picked up the phone quickly understood the situation, transferred me to the right guy, and after a brief ID check (as I was speaking on my family member's behalf) the issue is resolved immediately. All within 7 minutes.
For comparison, I also called my local CFO office for some gun modification questions - whoever picked up the phone was completely clueless and unable to help. After some back and forth he finally transferred me to the CFR Technical Unit, who not only answered my questions immediately but provided me with a clearly worded email that references the relevant legislations.
It feels weird but I can confirm that they have the best government call centre out there.

Once I moved to Northern Canada I learned that calling the CRA is a true joy. No wait time ever because the territories get a dedicated line lol

I called the CFO in Ontario and the lady said there was only two of them answering calls for the whole of Ontario.

I went to TACCOM one year (2021/22 iirc) and was surprised that CFOON has a booth there. The guy told me they really just had 3 people processing handgun transfers... I feel bad for them as the great C21 handgun rush happened.

Man, I was in the middle of moving everything to my new house and had to be out of my old place in a few hours and they kept me on hold at least 30min

I'm so glad the online portal is here. I have since moved twice with that system and it's so simple and painless. Log in, select handgun, select ATT reason (moving address), enter address and time, done. ATT issued immediately.

The actual people involved in the firearms program have been wonderful in my experience, its the people in the political side of it that display the lack of knowledge and values I find concerning.

It used to be in a strip mall.
Does anyone have the photo of the CFP workers squatting on some guns in the back of a truck with some sort of text over it. Text was something like "Give us your guns". It was an internal joke about confiscations from the early 2000s.

I mean, up until a few years ago you had to mail in your license applications to Miramichi... So yeah that's exactly how I pictured it to look like. I was surprised it wasn't just 3 guys in a shed lol

I’m okay with guns being a privilege over a right up here, it keeps the guns out of the hands that shouldn’t have them; my problem is they go after the responsible owners and run on the advantage our public doesn’t know much about guns so all they know is “AR bad”

I understand rationally this is the most sensible approach. I like the fact that the guy next to me at the range has undergone some screening and a safety course.
But I have become totally sympathetic to the American maximalist position ("shall not be infringed"). They can see what happened in the UK, and NZ, and Australia, and here. There is no social contract to be had with anti-gun people. There is no "compromise"; every measure, including licensing, is just an incremental step toward their actual goal of total prohibition.

Unfortunately, that’s a direct consequence of it not being treated as a right.
You can’t have it both ways. As long as something isn’t recognized as a right, someone will always have an easier time taking it away from you.
At this, it’s just a matter of time until most of it is gone, with only narrow carve-outs left for rural landowners and privileged exceptions (indigenous).

Dont bother... Canada has too much of a serf mentality to have that much personal responsibility. Out of all the commonwealth countries we are the most cucked. Heck, even the british put on a good protest almost every year.
We dont even have basic property rights... heck, we dont even have basic rights. Our own charter is designed with the sole purpose of defining our rights as nothing more than priviligies.

Strongly disagree on that one. Same as a drivers licence, no one should have a right to own firearms. Our government just needs to cut all the BS from over the last decade, and actually take illegal guns serious.

We don't really need it. We all thank you for thinking of us, but enshrining firearms so broadly into our Constitution would lead to a lot of unnecessary fights and safety concerns. IMO.
We just need our Government to be willing to learn more about guns so that when they make the laws, they don't mess up. We don't need a law that ages poorly to muddy the waters. Most laws, like the 2A, age poorly and lack context once they get into the future.

Clearly our approach isn’t working though. Anytime our politicians on the left need a cheap political tool, they just add more random guns to the ban list to distract voters. Numbers or logic don’t matter to them so learning about firearms won’t make a difference because it’s not about firearms, it’s about culture war politics.

They know about guns, they don't care. Trudeau has a PAL, he knows about guns. The adage "Don't attribute to malice what can be equally explained by stupidity," doesn't apply to the gun bans because they know how guns work. They are doing it maliciously, and without some kind of protection that is untouchable by the government, like a right, then we will always be under attack from the Liberals.

That’s a deluded liberalized fantasy.
Either firearm ownership has serious legal protection, or it exists only for as long as the government feels like allowing it.
“We just need the government to learn more about guns” is not a solution. It’s wishful thinking. Governments do not need to understand guns to ban them. They only need the legal power to do it, and right now they have it.So pick one.
Either you support 2A-style protections, or you accept that firearms can be slowly banned out of existence. But don’t pretend there’s some magical third option where gun ownership stays secure because politicians suddenly become informed and reasonable.
If you’d rather have no guns than constitutional protection for them, then say that with your full chest. It's unironically a more respectable take.

thanks for the kind words.. tbh i would prefer some sort of 2a up here but not universally.. the guy i drove by this morning arguing with a mailbox doesnt need a right to a rifle and most canadians are cool with a license, background checks and laws reverting back to harper era gun laws

I do agree with some people here that have good experiences with their customer service but when I called to ask a legitimate question that no one could answer.... They tried to make me feel bad Abt even asking. It was if I could hunt alone with a firearm at 16.

I get it, I work for the feds and you would be surprised how many office space is shared with malls. Most processing type of work aren’t in fancy buildings especially in the regions.
