The lady I spoke to on the phone about a slight issue with my application was very kind and helpful. Bless her.

They’re always nice, in my experience. Nicest and most helpful public servants that I’ve dealt with. Not saying others aren’t but the CFP is batting 1000

especially during the handgun madness in 2022. you had to call special clandestine numbers to even get through to someone and people not even involved in handgun transfers started doing them

My experience is 50/50

One time I'll call and the person kn the phone would be kind courteous and very helpful, for example I was calling kn why my PAL is taking so long and the woman pretty much said "it appears to be in progress of approval, it should be mailed in about 2 weeks, if you don't have it by the end of the month give us a call back and we will see where it's at and if theres anything holding it up!"

Well the next time I called I got a different person who was the polar opposite, just crass, agitated and like she was angry the whole time. When I asked her what the status of my PAL was I was told "we don't know, we have no way of checking that. It will be mailed to you when the process is done I can't give you a time frame"

And they seem to alternate, I'll get the nice one kne time then the aggressive one the next. I'm so glad I haven't had to call them in over 7 years

I have to agree, dealing with government departments can often be frustrating, not like that here.

Last time I renewed my wife just took a picture on a projector screen backdrop with a crappy SLR camera.

Renewed PAL lol. ADHD sucks

LOL here I thought when I just renewed if they were going to reject my photo since theres a slight shadow since I just renewed. I've never had a problem renewing however Im a month and bit away and hope I don't get caught up in the backlog like I've heard so much about.

You know, every 5 years you have your performance review with her????? I once said that to her when I was toying with the idea with going to start my own business and "hire" her - she did not like that LOL. Renew my *PAL*

Yep. When I called in asking about application status they were courteous, put me on hold, went and checked, and replied that it was in the mail and on the way and to enjoy.

They got much more helpful and friendly after a bunch were were laid off sometime in the 2010s. I think it was a mix of the hostile people getting cleared out changing the workplace culture and the rest being aware that they shouldn't completely alienate the only people they interact with.
