Misc [Megathread] Makasi MK-15

This will be the place where all Makasi related discussion will be concentrated (until the rifle starts getting into peoples hands). We’re seeing a lot of repeated posts, hype, and speculation on sub right now and we want to try to keep it from drowning out the rest of the content you good folks are making.

We expect to remove this megathread once the rifle actually gets into people’s hands and gets some actual canadian reviews. In the meantime feel free to speculate, discuss your purchase/preorder or otherwise in this thread.

I hope this rifle actually makes it into the hands of Canadians - and they at least get some time with it. It makes sense if you didn’t get a b&t, x95, or a Bren before the bans… might be a lot of people’s last chance to get a quality semi in 5.56 for a while.

Edit: uh oh - may have spoke too soon. Chat is this another WK180 situation?

21

u/AdeptArt Apr 26 '26

IRG has some R ones that are coming soon, I hope that gets into the hands of some people fast and we can get some canadian reviews.

3

u/Old-Selection-1012 May 06 '26

Price looks to be the same for the R as the Pre-Order NR..

8

u/Reighzy Apr 26 '26

Newbie here - how do we know it's going to be a quality rifle? Does the manufacturer have a good track record?

14

u/Connect44 Apr 26 '26

I saw comments in another thread that it's already sold in the USA, and has had good reviews.

3

u/Benefit_Waste Apr 27 '26

this rifle has been around for a while. it's not new. Just been shadowed in the American markets and until recently being approved for Canadian markets somehow. From the 100s of videos I have watched over reviews, it looks good and solid, and a lot of fun.

5

u/looloopklopm Apr 26 '26

Yeah that's where I'm at. Most americans have never heard of it which doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies.

39

u/hockeyfanatic777 Apr 26 '26

Most Americans also have access to a huge selection of AR-15s and other semi auto rifles. The market and variety is huge, whereas our market/variety is very very limited

7

u/Realistic_Poem2016 Apr 27 '26

They can get a quality rifle for $500 lol. This would be a niche market in the USA

10

u/looloopklopm Apr 27 '26

I watched reviews last night. I've changed my mind haha

1

u/ReturnOk7510 May 06 '26

You can buy an AR for $400 down there and there will be parts made for it for the next century.

3

u/ReturnOk7510 May 01 '26

Alright, let's see, add to cart, enter PAL, credit card, complete order... aaaaaand it's banned.

NPC tier response

2

u/Dramatic_Ebb2315 29d ago

From what I’ve seen 2 months later the RCMP has classified it as non-restricted, so I can see it sticking around for a while, plus there’s always manufacturers wanting to expand their market.

65

u/0672216 Apr 26 '26

Only gun that has me excited since liberals began their war on law abiding gun owners. Planning to pick one up but holding off for these to hit the shelves. Not a fan of pre-orders, especially guns.

16

u/Benefit_Waste Apr 26 '26

Yeah same here. I stopped going to gunshows last year since nothing interesting has been on the market. Same with looking at guns as a whole aside from the odd shotgun, it's one of those "I really want it now" type gun

12

u/DrinkMoreBrews Apr 26 '26

Gun shows used to be so good before Covid and now every mom and pop dealer charges an arm and a leg for absolute junk.

1

u/Benefit_Waste Apr 26 '26

Lumby, Kamloops, and Penticton gunshows were always fun. Cool people and cool surplus/milsurp stuff to see. Bought a couple of my first guns from them.

2

u/Natural_Comparison21 Apr 28 '26

I got to gun shows for the antiques and old ammo lol.

12

u/AsparagusUnhappy5395 Apr 26 '26

Me too, placed a preorder last night from GoTenda since their preorder is only $200 and is fully refundable until the gun is transferred to you.

3

u/Apples_and_Overtones Your feet suck and so do you Apr 26 '26

This is where I'm at too. I'll wait until they're physically here, and see what Canadian users are saying.

... And unfortunately have to wait and see if it gets magically banned before I can get one.

51

u/Infinite-Bill1072 Apr 26 '26

I manifest that everyone who comments here receives a Makasi under their Christmas tree this coming December

7

u/AdeptArt Apr 26 '26

Same brother/sister

64

u/rastamasta45 Apr 26 '26

For anyone saying they can’t risk buying it because it might get banned, my reply is tough cookies.

Money comes and goes, but getting your hands on a quality semi 223 that’s NR is now worth its weight in gold. It in effect becomes priceless since money can never buy it. I don’t care it’s going to get banned, it’s NR and it’ll be mine forever!

24

u/DougMacRay617 Apr 26 '26

This is my thoughts exactly. Especially with the devaluation of our dollars will only continue to get worse. If the government wants to ban it then i wanna own it

11

u/rastamasta45 Apr 26 '26

This is my secondary belief as well, as crime runs rampant, our economy continues to shrink and deteriorate and food becoming prohibitively expensive. I’m thinking lead will become more valuable than gold if you know what I mean. Especially since the CAD is becoming more worthless by the day 👀

11

u/LumberjackCDN Gold'n Loan Outfitters & Pawn Apr 26 '26

We're obviously a hybrid gun store/pawnshop and when i get asked by the "prepper" types that are only stacking precious metals if we have any maples (we dont cause theres a run on them) they always give me a funny look when i ask if theyre investing in brass and lead at all lol

3

u/DougMacRay617 Apr 26 '26

Yup exactly. Not to mention the squeeze on oil right now will continue to drive prices for everything especially food production. Leading to ..... drum roll Higher cost of living

12

u/MustardTiger88 Apr 26 '26

A lot of good Canadians will become criminals overnight when they wake up on Oct. 31st.

14

u/Cytoxin Apr 26 '26

That’s fine. Criminals get treated a lot better than citizens here in Canada!

6

u/gamercast1337 Apr 26 '26

Wrong type of criminals , unfortunately.  The government cant use us as a weapon against the common citizen so we will be facing the full force of the state.

8

u/Mysterious_Sleep7443 Apr 26 '26

Absolutely!

You can always make more money, but you cant always buy a certain firearm

3

u/Sco0basTeVen Apr 26 '26

So I’m guessing you got your PAL after the bans? There are people already in that boat.

0

u/rastamasta45 Apr 26 '26

You asking me? Because no I’m a pre ban pal holder

2

u/Sco0basTeVen Apr 26 '26

So don’t you already have a bunch of banned NR rifles that you already get to hold onto for life? Why would you want another?

I already have two safe queens I can never use again.

It can’t be priceless if it’s available at MSRP

12

u/rastamasta45 Apr 26 '26

I can’t confirm any that I own, but I can say it’s never enough and I don’t like being told by the LPC what to do

When a tree falls in the woods and noone is around to hear it does it make a sound ?

2

u/itsmeAG32 Apr 26 '26

exactly !

2

u/mischling2543 Apr 26 '26

Realistically what value does another safe queen get you though?

If your plan is to risk the rest of your collection to go shoot it illegally in the woods (which is a very stupid idea) then you might as well go all the way and break the law some more by getting a better one on the street.

If your plan is to wait for a Conservative government, then why not just buy it or a similar model once they roll back Trudeau's bans?

If your plan is insurance for an apocalypse scenario then an SKS is fine.

I really just have a hard time understanding the appeal here.

15

u/rastamasta45 Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

There’s so many reasons.

  1. Firearms are my passion, my hobby and my collection. To own them brings me joy, even if they’re banned.

  2. Spare firearms for the apocalypse is always a necessity for myself and everyone I love. 1 is none and 2 is one as the saying goes.

  3. I’m a law abiding citizen and I did nothing wrong. There’s a big difference with going into a forest and shooting illegally or purchasing a black market firearm and just saying “ I will hold my legally obtained property until further notice”. I will not commit a crime before or after October, I bought them legally and that will remain as such.

  4. Should we have a friendly government in the future, the run on guns will be biblical. Every price will be hiked, everything will be sold out. The best and cheapest time to buy a gun is always today, never tomorrow.

  5. Because I want it….

Edit: I should add you mentioned the SKS as the apocalypse insurance policy. If it’s all you have it’s good enough, however it’s woefully outdated and obsolete (downvote me but it’s true) a modern 223 taking STAMAGs is the only option. When you’re playing with your life you want every advantage, not disadvantage.

6

u/mischling2543 Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

Fair enough on the other points, although I don't see it the same way.

But on the apocalypse point, I said the SKS was fine because it's cheap and works well enough as a last resort option. It's extremely unlikely that you'd actually get into a gunfight where a more modern semi is going to make the difference between living and dying. And even if you do, a guy who's skilled with an SKS will run circles around someone who keeps his Makasi in a safe all the time and can't train with it. So in my view if you're legitimately worried about that then $2400 is much better spent on water filtration, food stockpiling, a solar array, etc.

At the end of the day it's your money, but for me I don't see the appeal.

3

u/Sco0basTeVen Apr 26 '26

Apocalypse ok. Do you put as much effort into apocalypse prep with regards to food and water, gasoline and power generation as much as you do building your Rambo arsenal?

I think the apocalypse is going to be a lot less Hollywood drama as you think. You probably have 10,000 rounds of 5.56 that you think you will be slaying hordes with from your basement window.

Good luck John Rambo

u/IGnuGnat May 24 '26

Put 200 $ down at tenda to reserve one. I didn't wanna put all 2400$ down until they actually show up.

13

u/Cope180-Enjoyer Apr 26 '26

Refunded if banned?

Edit. I see now on the site.

Risk-Free Guarantee: Your $200.00 deposit is fully refundable at any time prior to the final transfer of the firearm. Shop with absolute confidence as you wait for your MK-15.

7

u/looloopklopm Apr 26 '26

Thanks. This is enough for me to put a deposit down and decide later down the line.

5

u/WearifulSole Apr 26 '26

I didn't know this was an option, everywhere else just has them listed at full price with the option for store credit if they get banned.

I just put my $200 down to reserve mine!

Thanks for letting us know!

9

u/Even-Somewhere-9554 Apr 27 '26

Placed my order today with Reliable gun. It is late but I don’t need to get the first shipment. If they ban it before I could get my hands on the Makasi, I just use my deposit to buy something else. If they ban it after I get my gun, well, better have one than none

51

u/DarkHeroes5 Apr 26 '26

$2500 before tax for a rifle that can get banned a day after release is to rich for my blood

Or the Modern Sporters that never got delivered because the RCMP strongarmed ATRS with threats that weren't even legal.

Reminder that the Modern Sporter is legally non-restricted as it isn't named in any legislation / OICs and the FRT isn't the law.

Bro, most families easily spend $2500 a month on groceries

With Carney in power that price will soon to be $5000 a month

Buy a Makasi while groceries are still cheap

2

We’re in the $2,000-$2,500 per Month range on groceries.

Someone let me know when it comes in 7.62x39/51 battle rifle style.

I want one but I'm not interested in blowing a few g's on ammo for the thing as well.

7

u/looloopklopm Apr 26 '26

556/223 is like 50-60 cpr

5

u/Iokua_CDN Apr 26 '26

Agreed, 223 is arguably cheaper too shoot if we only look at The noncorrosive stuff. And much cheaper than 308 to shoot

3

u/Thunderbolt747 on Apr 26 '26

Yeah but I dont have any at all. I have 3-4k rounds in each of the other two

3

u/strickenchips Apr 26 '26

They do have a 7.62x39 rifle in the states, the MK-47. It's simply a different bolt and barrel.

7.62x51 would involves a major redesign.

5

u/Reasonable_Hall2346 Apr 26 '26

Not gonna lie seeing the title at first scared me that something had already happened to it.

5

u/AdeptArt Apr 26 '26

Yeah no don’t worry. We were just getting a lot of the same posts, just a screenshot of the Makasi order page or whatever, and we noticed some users getting tired of the spam. Figured it would be easier to keep speculation in one place until we actually get some reviews of the thing and then we’ll retire the megathread.

8

u/Apprehensive_Lock868 Apr 26 '26

I reserved one from Bullseye North, then Tenda and another from VictoryRidge. As you can tell I'm pretty excited about this one.

3

u/Apprehensive_Lock868 Apr 28 '26

I'm hoping at least one of the retailers get it to me in a timely basis. The extra ones will be for my 2 range buddies who can't handle the risk haha

3

u/Outrageous_Major_279 Apr 26 '26

I’ll play, ordered 2 different ones

1

u/Candid-Tomato2971 Apr 27 '26

I thought there was only 1 version so far available? Where did you order and what versions?

2

u/Diligent_Studio6763 Apr 28 '26

There is a NR and R version. R version has 16in barrel I think.

1

u/Candid-Tomato2971 Apr 29 '26

Can’t seem to find the R version anywhere!

1

u/Diligent_Studio6763 Apr 29 '26

I haven’t looked myself since I have no interest in a restricted version, but I did hear that IRG was bringing in some R versions with the 16in barrel.

3

u/Benefit_Waste Apr 27 '26

Now that we've seen rifles like the Mk15 being approved by the RCMP to come into Canadian markets. Are there any other similar firearms that theoretically be approved?

3

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Apr 29 '26

Do we have public access to FRT requests? I imagine there’s at least a few cool firearms that are currently reviewed. The Makasi was submitted in 2024, so who knows how many have already started the process

3

u/Unknownuser010203 Apr 28 '26

Let's see if we actually get the rifle first before we look forward

1

u/Tricky-Poem-5585 Apr 28 '26

Maybe the sr3m from Roswell rifle works

3

u/adrenalineJ92 Apr 28 '26

Debating whether I should pre order it from Marstar or Tenda. I’m looking to do a layaway

3

u/Ill-Task6681 Apr 28 '26

Go both, tenda offer refund anytime until it ships to you and they will refund even if it's banned in the meantime.

1

u/adrenalineJ92 Apr 28 '26

Thanks! Do you know if Tenda would cancel my deposit if they receive them while I’m still making payments?

2

u/Ill-Task6681 Apr 28 '26

From what they have told me they give a refund anytime until they ship it. So I believe they would refund you.

11

u/SirKickBan Apr 26 '26

The RCMP tends to be pretty reasonable with the FRTs they give guns when they're the ones making the decision. It's the later 'updates' forced by bills / OIC expansions on bills where the FRT classifications stop aligning with the law's restricted / non restricted guidelines, and instead look like a ban on 'scary' guns.

2

u/Mysterious_Sleep7443 Apr 29 '26

The law is as usual poorly written, because the people writing the laws don't understand what they are doing.

This they would call a loop hole, firearms designed and submitted to the RCMP for classification that they didn't name in the OIC list of prohibited because they didn't have a FRT number but because they were submitted before the 'ever greening' clause came into effect they technically by existing laws fall under the old rules and are classified as such.

They will need a new set of laws or another OIC to 'fix' this but until then this and other firearms submitted in the same time frame will be classified under the old system.

0

u/SirKickBan Apr 29 '26

Yep. The commission thing they put together for the.. -I want to say the 2025 OIC? It even pointed out, correctly, that the current mishmash list-based prohibition system made Canada's gun laws one of if not the most complex in the world, and should be overhauled.

Unfortunately I expect we'll see that overhaul going forwards in the next few years with a Liberal majority, likely as a simple blanket ban on semi-automatics able to accept detachable 6+ round magazines, regardless of the year of production or design, possibly with a small handful of exceptions like the M1 Garand. A set of rules and a whitelist system, instead of rules and a blacklist, essentially, so that exceptions are by default prohibited instead of the current system where they're default non-prohibited.

7

u/RDasher3333 Apr 26 '26

The RCMP sees no problems with semi-auto rifles, it’s the liberal party that’s obsessed with control and wants to take them away.

2

u/jp013 Apr 26 '26

Are they sold out everywhere?

6

u/Flat-Dark-Earth Big Bore Specialist Apr 26 '26

Victory Ridge Sports (Barrie) has it for $200 down.

7

u/AsparagusUnhappy5395 Apr 26 '26

Except you’re stuck with a store credit should things not come to fruition. I went with Tenda last night. Same $200 deposit but fully refundable right up until the gun is in your hands. Better bet there I think.

3

u/Ill-Task6681 Apr 26 '26

I pre ordered to both places (tenda and victory ridge) victory ridge claims they can have it in 60-90 days because of a different provider. Worst case I have a 200$ credit for 7.62 best case I have it early and have 200$ to buy 5.56.

1

u/AsparagusUnhappy5395 Apr 26 '26

I saw that as well, and was tempted to order from Victory, but their stock on other products didn’t interest me and didn’t want to be stuck with a credit.

1

u/Ill-Task6681 Apr 26 '26

Yeah I agree compared to tenda their stock is meh,but I'm optimistic the mk-15 won't be ban before it arrives

2

u/Bovinious May 01 '26

I preordered with Marstar and it’s non-refundable unless the rifle is banned. Should have gone with Tenda, free shipping with them too.

2

u/Ustauk May 20 '26

I phoned Range Sports , http://rangesports.ca , and confirmed with them they can bring in WOOX AR accessories, in addition to the WOOX precision products they have listed on the site. WOOX has fixed and folding wood and aluminum with wood cheek riser and butt plate insert 1913 stocks, wood MLok rail covers , pistol grips, and foregrips if anyone wants their Makasi to have a woody FAL look, FYI.

2

u/DecentCompetition754 Jun 23 '26

I'm down in the U.S.

Just picked up the 16 inch version.

Can confirm, multiple parts are interchangeable with AR15 parts.

I personally swapped the standard trigger with a Rise Armament LE145 drop in trigger.

https://risearmament.com/product/rise-armament-le145-trigger/

I also wanted to upgrade the barrel to a chrome lined (just a personal thing with me). I went with a criterion hybrid 16 inch chromelined with a .223 Wylde chamber and headspaced BCM bolt.

https://criterionbarrels.com/products/ar-platform/ar-15/ar-15-hybrid-barrel-carbine-gas-chrome-lined/?v=0b3b97fa6688

While the Makasi uses AR15 barrels, they are drilled and pinned. I used the following Jig to drill the new barrel myself. BRD engineering MK4.

https://brdengineering.com/shop/ols/products/mk4-universal-gas-block-drilling-jig

It comes with a 1/8 guide to drill the pin, but the makasi gas block uses a 3/16 pin. I found and used the following bushing without issue, it will fit on the MK4 jig in place of the 1/8 guide.

I did notice that the 2 bolts that interface through the handguard and the barrel nut were not in line, resulting in teeth marks on the barrel nut from the handguard mounting bolts. I easily fixed it by adding some shims to the barrel nut.

Finally, I wanted more of a fixed stock look for the Makasi. Unfortunately, I could not find any ready to order adapters that convert from 1913 picatinny to M16 female end plate. I combined the 2 items below to make my own. I had to Dremel the edges of the Yueoct mount so they would fit inside the anti rotation ledges of the adapter mount, but thankfully everything else lined up fine (the 2 parts even has the same 1/4 bolt matching threads!) Items below.

Now that I've got it set up, will try to take it out for a spin in the next week or so. If anyone has questions about specific aspects of the rifle, let me know, I'll answer as much as I can.

I'm curious if it'll hold zero after you remove and reinstall handguard.

Hey, any update to how it ran? Placed my deposit at my local gun store and excited for it

2

u/DecentCompetition754 14d ago

I put 200 rounds through it at the range, no issues!

1

u/DarkHeroes5 14d ago

Good to hear!

1

u/DarkHeroes5 14d ago

I never looked but can it take .223 as well or just 5.56?

1

u/DecentCompetition754 14d ago

I only ran 556, didn't try any 223.

1

u/DarkHeroes5 14d ago

Think there’d be an issue? Just thinking because I have a bunch of .223 stocked up already

1

u/DecentCompetition754 14d ago

Might be fine. My ejection pattern with 556 was 2-3 o'clock, so its slightly overgassed.

Be aware, I'm not using the original barrel with mine, I converted it over to a Criterion Hybrid barrel chambered in .223 Wylde, so could be Apples to Oranges with the factory Nitride barrel. Gas port was the same between the two.

I noticed in videos most of theirs were going that direction, and i’v seen posts about the higher/lower gas adjustment on it as well. Guess we shall see

Why did the Liberal Party ban other semi-automatic rifles but leave this one out?

Let's be fair, neither are conservatives. All are shit. Remember that it's the RCMP that makes these decisions, not the party itself.

7

u/Reasonable_Hall2346 Apr 26 '26

What? RCMP makes the FRT entries, the liberal party decides to OIC ban things and why we are in this shitshow. Rcmp already said this is a NR/R rifle.

Provost probably owns shares in brigade

2

u/OkMaintenance1807 Apr 27 '26

lol someone high up in the RCMP must of invested all their savings into brigade and their wife is threatening divorce over it to be letting this rifle into Canada.

In all honesty, probably just got missed when doing up the lists. They've done it in such a weird convoluted way that stragglers kept getting through. In spirit, the Liberals would love to have this banned, but I'm maybe being optimistic and thinking they don't want to deal with this file anymore and will just sort of quietly ignore the last few semis that are still around. I don't foresee more bans coming. Trying to be glass half full.

Stoked to get mine. I'll sell my left kidney to cover the payments if I have to. I have been thoroughly enjoying my tacticool TM22 lately and await the arrival of it's big brother

That question is as old as time. Gun owners have been asking that since the 90s as to why AK rifles are banned, but SKS and Valmet was legal, or despite Marc Lépen using a Mini 14, they banned/restricted EVERYTHING but what the shooter used...

How often do these types of pre-orders go up in price before they drop? I want to put a deposit down so bad but would hate for the price to increase.

3

u/Flat-Dark-Earth Big Bore Specialist Apr 30 '26

I would bet that after the initial wave sells out and assuming it isn’t banned immediately, the 2nd and 3rd round of pre orders will increase in price.

This happened with the Bren 2.

Expect an extra $200-300 per increase.

1

u/Bovinious May 01 '26

I made the mistake of preordering at Marstar. The deposit is not refundable unless the gun is banned or if they don’t receive them (whatever that means). If I decide not to go through with the purchase for whatever reason I am SOL.

4

u/DarkenemyxXx May 01 '26

Can’t you just use the money to buy ammo or something?

4

u/LordRaizer May 02 '26

That's not as bad as RDSC, you have to pay the entire thing upfront and there is no refund (you get store credit instead iirc)

Hey all. I'm looking to get a new rifle this year, I am leaning towards the IWI carmel or the Mk15. I've heard that the mk15 has had some issues, and i have heard less negative from the carmel. What would be the best option for me? Wasn't sure where to ask. Thanks

There is really little in the ways of documentation in video format on youtube ... which makes me incredibly hesitant

9

u/adrenalineJ92 May 01 '26

I don’t understand

8

u/Smiley119 Artillery Only May 02 '26

Durability testing would be nice for one ...1000 round burn down would nice

4

u/Candid-Tomato2971 May 07 '26

Burn down usually not a great indicator, as the rifle is rarely designed to discharge 1000 rounds in a short succession, <1 hour

I guess I miss used the word burndown ...something like the video was what I was referring to ... paul put well over 1000 rounds through his AK amd it ran just fine
