This will be the place where all Makasi related discussion will be concentrated (until the rifle starts getting into peoples hands). We’re seeing a lot of repeated posts, hype, and speculation on sub right now and we want to try to keep it from drowning out the rest of the content you good folks are making.
We expect to remove this megathread once the rifle actually gets into people’s hands and gets some actual canadian reviews. In the meantime feel free to speculate, discuss your purchase/preorder or otherwise in this thread.
I hope this rifle actually makes it into the hands of Canadians - and they at least get some time with it. It makes sense if you didn’t get a b&t, x95, or a Bren before the bans… might be a lot of people’s last chance to get a quality semi in 5.56 for a while.
Edit: uh oh - may have spoke too soon. Chat is this another WK180 situation?
this rifle has been around for a while. it's not new. Just been shadowed in the American markets and until recently being approved for Canadian markets somehow. From the 100s of videos I have watched over reviews, it looks good and solid, and a lot of fun.
Most Americans also have access to a huge selection of AR-15s and other semi auto rifles. The market and variety is huge, whereas our market/variety is very very limited
From what I’ve seen 2 months later the RCMP has classified it as non-restricted, so I can see it sticking around for a while, plus there’s always manufacturers wanting to expand their market.
Only gun that has me excited since liberals began their war on law abiding gun owners. Planning to pick one up but holding off for these to hit the shelves. Not a fan of pre-orders, especially guns.
Yeah same here. I stopped going to gunshows last year since nothing interesting has been on the market. Same with looking at guns as a whole aside from the odd shotgun, it's one of those "I really want it now" type gun
Lumby, Kamloops, and Penticton gunshows were always fun. Cool people and cool surplus/milsurp stuff to see. Bought a couple of my first guns from them.
For anyone saying they can’t risk buying it because it might get banned, my reply is tough cookies.
Money comes and goes, but getting your hands on a quality semi 223 that’s NR is now worth its weight in gold. It in effect becomes priceless since money can never buy it. I don’t care it’s going to get banned, it’s NR and it’ll be mine forever!
This is my thoughts exactly. Especially with the devaluation of our dollars will only continue to get worse. If the government wants to ban it then i wanna own it
This is my secondary belief as well, as crime runs rampant, our economy continues to shrink and deteriorate and food becoming prohibitively expensive. I’m thinking lead will become more valuable than gold if you know what I mean. Especially since the CAD is becoming more worthless by the day 👀
We're obviously a hybrid gun store/pawnshop and when i get asked by the "prepper" types that are only stacking precious metals if we have any maples (we dont cause theres a run on them) they always give me a funny look when i ask if theyre investing in brass and lead at all lol
Yup exactly. Not to mention the squeeze on oil right now will continue to drive prices for everything especially food production. Leading to ..... drum roll Higher cost of living
Wrong type of criminals , unfortunately. The government cant use us as a weapon against the common citizen so we will be facing the full force of the state.

Realistically what value does another safe queen get you though?
If your plan is to risk the rest of your collection to go shoot it illegally in the woods (which is a very stupid idea) then you might as well go all the way and break the law some more by getting a better one on the street.
If your plan is to wait for a Conservative government, then why not just buy it or a similar model once they roll back Trudeau's bans?
If your plan is insurance for an apocalypse scenario then an SKS is fine.
I really just have a hard time understanding the appeal here.
Firearms are my passion, my hobby and my collection. To own them brings me joy, even if they’re banned.
Spare firearms for the apocalypse is always a necessity for myself and everyone I love. 1 is none and 2 is one as the saying goes.
I’m a law abiding citizen and I did nothing wrong. There’s a big difference with going into a forest and shooting illegally or purchasing a black market firearm and just saying “ I will hold my legally obtained property until further notice”. I will not commit a crime before or after October, I bought them legally and that will remain as such.
Should we have a friendly government in the future, the run on guns will be biblical. Every price will be hiked, everything will be sold out. The best and cheapest time to buy a gun is always today, never tomorrow.
Because I want it….
Edit: I should add you mentioned the SKS as the apocalypse insurance policy. If it’s all you have it’s good enough, however it’s woefully outdated and obsolete (downvote me but it’s true) a modern 223 taking STAMAGs is the only option. When you’re playing with your life you want every advantage, not disadvantage.
Fair enough on the other points, although I don't see it the same way.
But on the apocalypse point, I said the SKS was fine because it's cheap and works well enough as a last resort option. It's extremely unlikely that you'd actually get into a gunfight where a more modern semi is going to make the difference between living and dying. And even if you do, a guy who's skilled with an SKS will run circles around someone who keeps his Makasi in a safe all the time and can't train with it. So in my view if you're legitimately worried about that then $2400 is much better spent on water filtration, food stockpiling, a solar array, etc.
At the end of the day it's your money, but for me I don't see the appeal.
Apocalypse ok. Do you put as much effort into apocalypse prep with regards to food and water, gasoline and power generation as much as you do building your Rambo arsenal?
I think the apocalypse is going to be a lot less Hollywood drama as you think. You probably have 10,000 rounds of 5.56 that you think you will be slaying hordes with from your basement window.

Placed my order today with Reliable gun. It is late but I don’t need to get the first shipment. If they ban it before I could get my hands on the Makasi, I just use my deposit to buy something else. If they ban it after I get my gun, well, better have one than none
I mean people were paying crusader arms pretty well the same for a hunk of junk crypto. At least this ones been available for a few years and youre not paying the premium to beta test.
Awesome! We also do free shipping over 300, and if you got FB we are worth a follow, we post when new stuff comes in and the girls make Pat do tiktoks and theyre pretty funny sometimes.
Yeah no don’t worry. We were just getting a lot of the same posts, just a screenshot of the Makasi order page or whatever, and we noticed some users getting tired of the spam. Figured it would be easier to keep speculation in one place until we actually get some reviews of the thing and then we’ll retire the megathread.
Optimistic that's the reason why, but unfortunately there are some people in this community who are scalping assholes, if the Type 81M wasn't a clear example of that last time.
I can't wait for all the custom furniture for the Makasi. If we could make the Alcor look cool, imagine what we'll do with the Makasi! Wood FAL furniture, classic m16. It's gonna be amazing!
I haven’t looked myself since I have no interest in a restricted version, but I did hear that IRG was bringing in some R versions with the 16in barrel.
Now that we've seen rifles like the Mk15 being approved by the RCMP to come into Canadian markets. Are there any other similar firearms that theoretically be approved?
Do we have public access to FRT requests? I imagine there’s at least a few cool firearms that are currently reviewed. The Makasi was submitted in 2024, so who knows how many have already started the process
The RCMP tends to be pretty reasonable with the FRTs they give guns when they're the ones making the decision. It's the later 'updates' forced by bills / OIC expansions on bills where the FRT classifications stop aligning with the law's restricted / non restricted guidelines, and instead look like a ban on 'scary' guns.
The law is as usual poorly written, because the people writing the laws don't understand what they are doing.
This they would call a loop hole, firearms designed and submitted to the RCMP for classification that they didn't name in the OIC list of prohibited because they didn't have a FRT number but because they were submitted before the 'ever greening' clause came into effect they technically by existing laws fall under the old rules and are classified as such.
They will need a new set of laws or another OIC to 'fix' this but until then this and other firearms submitted in the same time frame will be classified under the old system.
Yep. The commission thing they put together for the.. -I want to say the 2025 OIC? It even pointed out, correctly, that the current mishmash list-based prohibition system made Canada's gun laws one of if not the most complex in the world, and should be overhauled.
Unfortunately I expect we'll see that overhaul going forwards in the next few years with a Liberal majority, likely as a simple blanket ban on semi-automatics able to accept detachable 6+ round magazines, regardless of the year of production or design, possibly with a small handful of exceptions like the M1 Garand. A set of rules and a whitelist system, instead of rules and a blacklist, essentially, so that exceptions are by default prohibited instead of the current system where they're default non-prohibited.
Except you’re stuck with a store credit should things not come to fruition. I went with Tenda last night. Same $200 deposit but fully refundable right up until the gun is in your hands. Better bet there I think.
I pre ordered to both places (tenda and victory ridge) victory ridge claims they can have it in 60-90 days because of a different provider. Worst case I have a 200$ credit for 7.62 best case I have it early and have 200$ to buy 5.56.
I saw that as well, and was tempted to order from Victory, but their stock on other products didn’t interest me and didn’t want to be stuck with a credit.

I phoned Range Sports , http://rangesports.ca , and confirmed with them they can bring in WOOX AR accessories, in addition to the WOOX precision products they have listed on the site. WOOX has fixed and folding wood and aluminum with wood cheek riser and butt plate insert 1913 stocks, wood MLok rail covers , pistol grips, and foregrips if anyone wants their Makasi to have a woody FAL look,
FYI.
I also wanted to upgrade the barrel to a chrome lined (just a personal thing with me). I went with a criterion hybrid 16 inch chromelined with a .223 Wylde chamber and headspaced BCM bolt.
It comes with a 1/8 guide to drill the pin, but the makasi gas block uses a 3/16 pin. I found and used the following bushing without issue, it will fit on the MK4 jig in place of the 1/8 guide.
I did notice that the 2 bolts that interface through the handguard and the barrel nut were not in line, resulting in teeth marks on the barrel nut from the handguard mounting bolts. I easily fixed it by adding some shims to the barrel nut.
Finally, I wanted more of a fixed stock look for the Makasi. Unfortunately, I could not find any ready to order adapters that convert from 1913 picatinny to M16 female end plate. I combined the 2 items below to make my own. I had to Dremel the edges of the Yueoct mount so they would fit inside the anti rotation ledges of the adapter mount, but thankfully everything else lined up fine (the 2 parts even has the same 1/4 bolt matching threads!) Items below.
Now that I've got it set up, will try to take it out for a spin in the next week or so. If anyone has questions about specific aspects of the rifle, let me know, I'll answer as much as I can.
Might be fine. My ejection pattern with 556 was 2-3 o'clock, so its slightly overgassed.
Be aware, I'm not using the original barrel with mine, I converted it over to a Criterion Hybrid barrel chambered in .223 Wylde, so could be Apples to Oranges with the factory Nitride barrel. Gas port was the same between the two.
I noticed in videos most of theirs were going that direction, and i’v seen posts about the higher/lower gas adjustment on it as well. Guess we shall see
lol someone high up in the RCMP must of invested all their savings into brigade and their wife is threatening divorce over it to be letting this rifle into Canada.
In all honesty, probably just got missed when doing up the lists. They've done it in such a weird convoluted way that stragglers kept getting through. In spirit, the Liberals would love to have this banned, but I'm maybe being optimistic and thinking they don't want to deal with this file anymore and will just sort of quietly ignore the last few semis that are still around. I don't foresee more bans coming. Trying to be glass half full.
Stoked to get mine. I'll sell my left kidney to cover the payments if I have to. I have been thoroughly enjoying my tacticool TM22 lately and await the arrival of it's big brother
That question is as old as time. Gun owners have been asking that since the 90s as to why AK rifles are banned, but SKS and Valmet was legal, or despite Marc Lépen using a Mini 14, they banned/restricted EVERYTHING but what the shooter used...
I would bet that after the initial wave sells out and assuming it isn’t banned immediately, the 2nd and 3rd round of pre orders will increase in price.
I made the mistake of preordering at Marstar. The deposit is not refundable unless the gun is banned or if they don’t receive them (whatever that means).
If I decide not to go through with the purchase for whatever reason I am SOL.
Hey all. I'm looking to get a new rifle this year, I am leaning towards the IWI carmel or the Mk15. I've heard that the mk15 has had some issues, and i have heard less negative from the carmel. What would be the best option for me? Wasn't sure where to ask. Thanks
I guess I miss used the word burndown ...something like the video was what I was referring to ... paul put well over 1000 rounds through his AK amd it ran just fine
