Thinking of getting one of these guys they seem like they would be pretty decent

I’ve been planning this purchase for years. This is an earlier model factory 26 production SKS, unissued and caked in cosmoline. Same factory that made French ticklers, but these were produced in a manner closer to the original Russian manufacturing methods. Still has the chrome-lined barrel, but instead of being pinned like the ticklers it’s a threaded barrel, the hand-guard is wood instead of Bakelite, and instead of the spike bayonet it has a blade. Also a higher percentage of the parts are machined the original Russian way. Very excited to play around with this.

I did not focus on grouping yet for this rifle because the range is only 13 yards unfortunately though when I go to

Zulus520R on a Ruger Precision Rifle in 22lr. Scope works great and has some cool features. The rifle is a great shooter too all around great setup.

What makes people post their used guns for above new prices? I’m looking for a 10/22 brand new they’re about $419.99 in my area, but every post I’m seeing is like $500-$1000. Why would anyone pay more for a used gun? I’m not even talking about modified ones, or optics or anything. Just a standard wood stocked ruger 10/22 for like $800.

Today i picked up the Derya DYPA 9mm, which i ordered as soon as it was available. Being a pump action, I figure it'll last longer in our climate than something semi auto - It doesn't really compare directly to something like the Henry Homesteader, which was the 9mm I originally had my eye on.

Here are my impressions after putting about 100 rounds down the pipe.

First Impressions & Build Quality

Right out of the box, it has a decent amount of weight to it and feels sturdy in the hands. I was worried it might feel a bit like a toy but it is surprisingly robust. In fact, the build quality feels right on par with a TM22 Pro—the stock and pistol grip are identical, and the disassembly process is fairly straightforward.

The Action & An Unexpected Issue

When dry-pumping, the action feels solid but a little clunky. It is **not** spring-assisted, which is a feature I really enjoy on my Taipan X. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much better it cycles when you are actually live-firing. Whether the action is just loosening up or the recoil helps, running multiple rounds in quick succession feels more than fine.

**One immediate issue to note:*\* After about 100 rounds, the bolt holding the stock and grip to the main receiver became *very* loose. This required a full disassembly of the rear portion of the firearm to retighten and apply blue Loctite to the bolts. Was not super impressed.

Magazines & Reloading

The gun comes with two proprietary magazines made by Derya. Compared to my aftermarket PMAGs, these are actually higher build quality and much closer to OEM Glock mags, so I'm sticking with them for now.

To save my hands, I picked up a Ludex speed loader, which made a massive difference. No more sore thumbs or spending over a minute loading a single mag—now it takes about 15 seconds with zero pain.

**An important note on mag insertion:*\* As others have mentioned, if you slam the magazine in too forcefully, it can over-insert, which locks up the bolt. When that happens, you have to drop the mag and seat it more gently. Because I prefer spirited reloads, I found a solid workaround: leaving the pump forward when inserting a fresh mag completely alleviates this issue.

Trigger & Ergonomics

The pump action runs smooth during firing, and the trigger actually exceeded my expectations. It's heavy, but you always know where it'll fire. I really enjoyed my brief shooting session with it and look forward to firing it again.

The Verdict

If you dislike manual-action firearms, you’ll probably want to stay away - if your only goal is to mag-dump a semi-auto as fast as possible just buy a homesteader. However, if you enjoy manually cycling your action and know what your getting for what you're spending, this might be worth a pickup.

After a quick inspection it appears this is indeed a gen 3 or variant of gen 2 specific to the Canadian market. The stock when unfolded is flush to the rear of the receiver as per the original spas, this is different than the imports (gen 1 and gen 2) to the USA.
My stock latch (to the rear sight) was jammed out of box. I had to remove it with a flat head screwdriver. I got it unstuck but it’s still very tight. Also the stock is insanely hard to unlock. Destroys your fingers.

After disassembly, the charging handle was a bitch to remove. Firearms was super dirty, full of that cheap nasty oil. The bolt is a bit concerning. It’s very Turkish clone, but thankfully the bolt is blued and not covered in that garbage bbq paint they usually use. The extractor spring is the best I have ever seen on a Turkish gun, bravo. It’s still not benelli strong tho… and I will likely replace mine just because. Firing pin looks fine. Gas piston has a non serviceable steel oring, good thing we got a lifetime warranty tho it may hold up just fine. I would have liked to see some standard replaceable metal orings. Inside my receiver I found a knick in the aluminum near the rear wall where the rubber bumper. Had some aluminum bits floating around in there. I will contact tactical imports about my receiver but it’s likely just cosmetic.
The magazine tube extension is blocked by a post that you can remove with a screw driver. The magazine tube has a stopper before the extension, if you want to use the extension you can but you’ll need a new longer spring. If anyone has a recommendation for a spring replacement, please share. The plastic grip is authentically horrible, I instantly put hockey tape over it.
As for the “paint wear” on the metal heat shield from the pump hand guard, as per the original the clone also rubs and looks like it will definitely wear over time. Tac mentions this on their website and so does the manual. I’m not bothered by it but some people might. I put a little tac grease in the areas to help slow the wear down.

These are very subjective ratings based on my own experience and opinion.

Those calling this Turkish junk might be eating their words, this is very different than anything I have seen from turkey, including other tactical imports.

I've seen some posts from a firearms retailer in Alberta social media and website and a couple private sellers online selling UTAS 556/308 AR10/AR15 straight pulls.

The rifle from what I'm reading is essentially an AR10/AR15 without a gas port in the upper and proprietary sized pivot/takedown pins to make it incompatible with normal AR10/AR15 but is otherwise it's an AR10/AR15.

Does anyone have any more information on this rifle? I can't find much online and there's no public FRT, I would imagine there's a private one that has not been released yet as it would be needed for importing the rifle from Turkey. Seems odd RCMP would've allowed this to pass as NR.

Finally got my first rifle. 1917 SMLE in amazing condition. Already looking at a .22 to just poke holes and have fun with!

With Sterling Arms standing up for themselves against the prohibited classification the RCMP put on the R9, and winning, it got me thinking about the Crusader Arms Crypto. Those guys came out with a rifle that met the new laws, then pumped out a bunch of beyond subpar rifles with worse than Chinese QC. Made a pile of cash and as soon as it was banned, did nothing to stand up for their product. Instead created another piece of garbage.

Not to just bash CA (well, maybe a little, actually a lot), we now have seen what a good Canadian firearms manufacturer does. Makes a product, stands by it, then fights for it. Their win, to me anyway, shows what companies we should actually support.

After CA removed their website, blocks peoples comments on Instagram that comment the issues they have with their new Backland Hunter rifles I am genuinely shocked anyone can still support them by giving them a dime.

Anyway, I'm kind of curious what other people's thoughts are on CA doing nothing to fight for the rifle they developed, that also being a fight for their customers base. Especially now that we have seen Sterling Arms having being successful with their R9 reclassification. Will this maybe get them to take a stance for the crypto classification?

Beautiful, I owned the M3 Super 90 and it was pretty nice but this definitely blows it out of the water in terms of feel and overall looks imo.

Some things I got to play with briefly, the button to switch from semi auto and pump is very easy on mine. The bolt release button is also pretty light, don’t have to push hard or struggle to release the bolt. The pump action seems smooth, I haven’t noticed any scratching yet, but that could change with real use.

The folding latch though is tight as hell, maybe I’m trying to unlatch it wrong but that spring won’t pull downward lol. Probably going to have to unscrew the rear sight to unfold it for now. Looks like there’s a rubber piece there between the stock and receiver that is getting it hung up.

Overall, it’s a nice one, fit and finish is great!! I’m going to run some high power shells over the next few weeks likely update in some other threads or posts!

Jay's Blades and Bullets gave a more recent initial review of The Brigade Makasi. When he first got it, it would not cycle, but he sent it away for Brigade Arms to fix, and they seemed to have provided him great customer service. He says it is a little less accurate than the Carmel with a little harsher recoil impulse but is lighter than an MCX with similar recoil. He did swap in a different single-stage trigger, so it is nice to have confirmation that works. He says the Strike Industries pistol grip that came with it is nice, and also like the slim, light handguard. He did not the FAL-style stock was heavy, so those wanting a lighter build may want to swap it for a less-hefty stock. Anyways, FYI. Thanks!

Thinking about grouse hunting this fall. Is this good enough to do a bit head snipping?

Yesterday I picked up a Hatsan Bulltac shotgun. I wanted a bullpup and the other two I bought were banned. Overall I really like this gun. I took it out of the box today, threw a red dot on it and headed to the range. 75 rounds with one failing to feed for some reason, I touched the charging handle and it finished loading. The Good: nice fit to finish, good weight and easy to shoot. The Bad: there is no bolt release, once you put one in the chamber and push the next one into the magazine the bolt closes. Not a huge dislike.

TR45 Micro just came in today, double action pull is heavy, probably needs to be broken in. Took off the cheek riser and the flip up sights that it came with.

It seems pretty solid, bought some 45 colt and 410 to give it a go soon. Hopefully the blow back of gasses isn’t too bad, I’ll remove the blast shield on the right side if it seems like it’s a bit much after a few rounds.

Imo I think it’d look so much better with a fixed z-style stock but this is cool too.

Ever since the original backland hunter came out I’ve been eying one, but the reviews kept me away. Seeing the comp come out and a few good reviews I decided to give it a try.

Ordered a set of irons for it which still haven’t arrived, but I wanted to try it out so threw a red dot on and took it to EESA.

Ran about 50 rounds of .223 with the only issue being not feeding 2 rounds. Also realized that if you raise the cheek riser it’ll block the charging handle lol.

New to guns so I don’t have anything to compare to, but fit and finish is good. Planning on taking it out again next weekend and might update.

Brand new out of the box. Only things done were top cocking and optics added. 50 rounds, zero problem. Seller and Bellot Canadian match ammo. Someone was asking about feeding.
