Gun and gear reviews New NR UTAS Straight Pull 556/308?

I've seen some posts from a firearms retailer in Alberta social media and website and a couple private sellers online selling UTAS 556/308 AR10/AR15 straight pulls.

The rifle from what I'm reading is essentially an AR10/AR15 without a gas port in the upper and proprietary sized pivot/takedown pins to make it incompatible with normal AR10/AR15 but is otherwise it's an AR10/AR15.

Does anyone have any more information on this rifle? I can't find much online and there's no public FRT, I would imagine there's a private one that has not been released yet as it would be needed for importing the rifle from Turkey. Seems odd RCMP would've allowed this to pass as NR.

Does it take AR15 BCG’s? Or is it proprietary?

I feel like my friend bubba can get this thing semi-auto in an afternoon with a drill and some parts from a banned gun that’s just been laying around.

Everythings AR15 internally from the research I've done. Milspec parts, just the proprietary takedown/pivot pins and it missing a gas system.

Lol nice, this thing is going to be the Canadian equivalent of a “80% receiver set”.

Call it the “99 receiver set”

The takedown pins are not proprietary. I don't know where you got this from

3

u/Available-Salt-4032 Jun 18 '26

You can put a CMMG .22 bolt conversion into it

9

u/BATFREEMAN Jun 17 '26

Cant find an frt for it but hopefully 🤷‍♂️

u/Forsaken_Edge_9184 Jun 17 '26

I own one, they currently have no frt which he is trying to get. I did post it on here but people started hating so I deleted the post.

Does the gun have a gas tube? Is there anything different in the lower receiver or is it just a regular ar-15 without a gas tube?

If you can't take the hit, I would suggest selling this quick, in my estimation this is just going to get prohibited soon

It has no gas tube system and its not drilled for it also, far as a lower receiver I have no idea as I never had an ar before but honestly it probably is and I doubt it will get a frt but it looked cool so I bought it

u/WAHLY-_- Jun 18 '26

You should post pictures of it disassembled, give us all a look at what it needs to bring it back to “100% functional”.

Don’t know but I want 2

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Jun 17 '26

I would imagine there's a private one that has not been released yet

Businesses, LE personnel, and verifiers can check the up-to-date FRT on the portal. If it's not on there then the importer wouldn't have it either.

1

u/OperatorBadger Jun 17 '26

That's what I assumed.

3

u/Elbro_16 Jun 17 '26

I asked the owner in the Facebook comments, he said he is personally submitting FRT for both guns. Hopefully they get NR

Wow hes selling em already without an FRT?

7

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

Happens more often than you think (hello Crusader Arms!). Despite what the Liberal propaganda machine claims, FRT is not law.

3

u/LumberjackCDN Gold'n Loan Outfitters & Pawn Jun 17 '26

Still not best business practices imo. Id be pretty chapped if i bought one of these, under the pretenses of being NR and it comes back prohib due to being a variant.

2

u/Elbro_16 Jun 17 '26

Exactly. It’s a not a great idea

1

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Jun 17 '26

Absolutely agree with you here. I would not buy something this "edgy" without a FRT lol

11

u/iNeedAdivorce Jun 17 '26

Can someone explain to me why I would buy one of these instead of just buying a nice bolt action rifle? I don't get the attraction.

u/uber_poutine Jun 17 '26

If you've already got accessories and/or parts that you can't use anymore, this could be a way to use them again.

1

u/Dootbooter Jun 17 '26

That's like throwing a corvette body on a Nissan ultima

-15

u/iNeedAdivorce Jun 17 '26

Right? So because you don't have a Corvette anymore, but you still have Corvette wheels. You should buy a different type of car that's not a Corvette like a piece of shit chrysler 300 and put those Corvette wheels on it.

20

u/uber_poutine Jun 17 '26

When the powers that be have banned "zoomy cars" and you've got the some really high quality wheels sitting in your garage, maybe you want to use those wheels, or your special steering wheel, or the custom suspension that you've got. Doesn't make the car into a Corvette, but maybe it's better than letting those parts collect dust.

u/No_Reveal_7886 Jun 20 '26

I really don't get the appeal either.  If I want to run & gun I'd get a lever or pump. If I'm bench shooting I'll get a turnbolt.

2

u/OperatorBadger Jun 17 '26

It's an AR and you can't get them anymore, it's interesting.

-13

u/iNeedAdivorce Jun 17 '26

That's not an Armalite 15 rifle.

4

u/OperatorBadger Jun 17 '26

It's a straight pull AR15, it's an AR15 without a gas system and with proprietary takedown/pivot pins, other than that it's identical to the average milspec ar15

6

u/alexorange178 Jun 17 '26

You meant a straight pull that looks like an ar15.

-8

u/iNeedAdivorce Jun 17 '26

I really hope that you're being sarcastic with me.

5

u/OperatorBadger Jun 17 '26

I'm not, please explain to me what I got wrong.

-8

u/iNeedAdivorce Jun 17 '26

A Prius is car. It's not a sports car.

That is a rifle. It's not an AR 15.

6

u/OperatorBadger Jun 17 '26

Built on a AR15 chassis, AR15 Parts. Just because it wasn't manufactured by armalite doesn't mean it's not a ar15.

4

u/Major-Ad-4288 Jun 17 '26

Turkey is like the Aliexpress of guns. cheap and crap.

1

u/DonJuanPrawns Jun 17 '26

A straight pull meaning it's a bolt action? Or is that just a mistake

3

u/OperatorBadger Jun 17 '26

Yep, it's bolt action, no gas system to make it semi.

2

u/DonJuanPrawns Jun 17 '26

See that's what I was thinking but I guess it was just worded weird in my mind

u/AnnualTune2673 Jun 17 '26

I would strongly suggest taking this post down as law enforcement monitors this page and this is not a safe space for illegal activities. Having this post up is likely gonna get the rifle banned next week just the same as other turkish bullpup shotguns have been banned the same way. Reach out to Swamp Donkey's and ask them yourself.

If dealers are able to import and sell these firearms, then it has a non-restricted FRT since this gun is made in Turkiye. All foreign guns must have a valid FRT before being sold in Canada.*

Edit: * = As I understand it's the industry standard in Canada.

The RCMP already know this rifle exists and is in circulation. The Poly twats, not so much...

4

u/Elbro_16 Jun 17 '26

It’s in fact does not have a frt. swamp donkeys is the importer from what I understand, he has a time limit on when the frt is supposed to be submitted and is in the process of doing so. But as of now it doesn’t have an FRT

1

u/chillyrabbit Jun 17 '26

That doesn't sound right how or why would CBSA allow a pallet of guns it doesn't know if they are legal or not in canada? You need an import permit and declaration of what you import into Canada.

Can you explain or link an explanation of how or why you can import firesrms without an FRT?

I could understand a one off if it was a model for testing,

1

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Jun 17 '26

Can you explain or link an explanation of how or why you can import firesrms without an FRT?

CBSA didn't mention the need of FRT as it's not a legal document/law.

1

u/chillyrabbit Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

So on my import permit I could write unknown firearm maybe full auto, maybe illegal and it would be fine to import?

Can you link to where you found or didnt find the absence of this requirement?

Edit: CBSA Memorandum D19-13-2: Importing and exporting firearms, weapons and devices mentions that businesses can only import the firearms they are allowed to sell. That presupposes that the CBSA knows the classification of the firearm you imported. And if the CBSA doesn't know they don't have to accept the import.

The CBSA relies on the FRT to determine classification, and even though it's not a "legal" document that doesn't matter

1

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Jun 17 '26

No you cannot, because the CBSA will take one look at it and say "oh that's a prohib machine gun/grenade launcher/whatever".

From the CBSA themselves:

When identifying what category a firearm belongs to, the Firearms Reference Table (FRT) will be used as a reference tool.

That's it, a "reference tool". Not a piece of legally binding document. CBSA themselves has the final say in determining the classification at the border. There are no RCMP officers there to enforce the FRT. Does that mean the CBSA can be interpreting the FRT incorrectly and make a human error? Absolutely, and it has happened before.

For visitors importing temporarily, all they need is the RCMP Form 5589, a fee, and the applicable ATT if it's restricted. Form 5589 itself does not ask for a FRT match. Visitors outright cannot import prohibited firearms.

For residents, you would need a registration certificate for importing restricted firearms, and that's where a FRT is 100% required (and implied, but not explicitly stated), otherwise it cannot be registered to begin with. For NR the only requirement is for you to have a PAL. If it's a break action single shot shotgun, or a custom Rem700 barreled action, CBSA is gonna take one look at it and say "yeah, that's obviously NR" and not even bother opening the FRT.

https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/iefw-iefa-eng.html

Not to mention all those businesses submitting firearm samples to the RCMP for inspection and classification and to write a FRT to begin with. How are those firearms imported without a FRT? You tell me.

Here is what I asked on Facebook

2

u/chillyrabbit Jun 17 '26

If that is what he says...

Risky though, and just because it's legal in NZ doesn't mean it's legal here.

The schesimesser sp15 is illgeal here but legal in NZ.

Exactly that is my point. You think poly twats aren't watching this sub? You're just going to get it banned through visibility. Mark my words just as the N4S did

13

u/DJJ0SHWA Jun 17 '26

What the hell are you talking about

1

u/adrenalineJ92 Jun 17 '26

Great question!

-23

u/AnnualTune2673 Jun 17 '26

I take it you just got your pal last week and are unaware of how the rcmp functions.

The RCMP regularly monitors this page for illegal activities and there are several examples of such, namely someone who posted their guns and then made another post asking about a murder that happened on his street. He got a call from the RCMP 30 minutes later asking for him by his reddit handle.

Do you remember the Turkish NS4 bullpup shotgun? It was banned via FRT a few days after someone posted it here and it got hundreds of likes and thousands of views.

As I said, this is not a safe space to post illegal activities and ask about guns that are currently under the radar but otherwise legal.

Delete this post, and ask swamp donkey's about it, not 100k people on a public forum.

14

u/Relevant_Diver_3228 Jun 17 '26

What is a pal/s

4

u/NIBLZ_HAMSTR Jun 17 '26

Swamp donkeys? And what about this post is illegal? I dont get it...

0

u/AnnualTune2673 Jun 17 '26

The firearm in question does not have an frt and the lower receiver is obviously an ar-15. My point being, don't post stupid shit online thinking its a safe space. This is a public forum monitored by the rcmp and viewed by 70k people weekly.

If it’s a straight pull and over $1200 you might as well go MRA, SCSA, or Troy. Don’t think I’d want to go Turkish for anything too price if the reliability is a coin flip. Under a grand though…I might reconsider since this rifle is a looker
