New NR UTAS Straight Pull 556/308?

I've seen some posts from a firearms retailer in Alberta social media and website and a couple private sellers online selling UTAS 556/308 AR10/AR15 straight pulls.

The rifle from what I'm reading is essentially an AR10/AR15 without a gas port in the upper and proprietary sized pivot/takedown pins to make it incompatible with normal AR10/AR15 but is otherwise it's an AR10/AR15.

Does anyone have any more information on this rifle? I can't find much online and there's no public FRT, I would imagine there's a private one that has not been released yet as it would be needed for importing the rifle from Turkey. Seems odd RCMP would've allowed this to pass as NR.

I would strongly suggest taking this post down as law enforcement monitors this page and this is not a safe space for illegal activities. Having this post up is likely gonna get the rifle banned next week just the same as other turkish bullpup shotguns have been banned the same way. Reach out to Swamp Donkey's and ask them yourself.

If dealers are able to import and sell these firearms, then it has a non-restricted FRT since this gun is made in Turkiye. All foreign guns must have a valid FRT before being sold in Canada.*

Edit: * = As I understand it's the industry standard in Canada.

The RCMP already know this rifle exists and is in circulation. The Poly twats, not so much...

It’s in fact does not have a frt. swamp donkeys is the importer from what I understand, he has a time limit on when the frt is supposed to be submitted and is in the process of doing so. But as of now it doesn’t have an FRT

That doesn't sound right how or why would CBSA allow a pallet of guns it doesn't know if they are legal or not in canada? You need an import permit and declaration of what you import into Canada.

Can you explain or link an explanation of how or why you can import firesrms without an FRT?

I could understand a one off if it was a model for testing,

CBSA didn't mention the need of FRT as it's not a legal document/law.

So on my import permit I could write unknown firearm maybe full auto, maybe illegal and it would be fine to import?

Can you link to where you found or didnt find the absence of this requirement?

Edit: CBSA Memorandum D19-13-2: Importing and exporting firearms, weapons and devices mentions that businesses can only import the firearms they are allowed to sell. That presupposes that the CBSA knows the classification of the firearm you imported. And if the CBSA doesn't know they don't have to accept the import.

No you cannot, because the CBSA will take one look at it and say "oh that's a prohib machine gun/grenade launcher/whatever".

From the CBSA themselves:

When identifying what category a firearm belongs to, the Firearms Reference Table (FRT) will be used as a reference tool.

That's it, a "reference tool". Not a piece of legally binding document. CBSA themselves has the final say in determining the classification at the border. There are no RCMP officers there to enforce the FRT. Does that mean the CBSA can be interpreting the FRT incorrectly and make a human error? Absolutely, and it has happened before.

For visitors importing temporarily, all they need is the RCMP Form 5589, a fee, and the applicable ATT if it's restricted. Form 5589 itself does not ask for a FRT match. Visitors outright cannot import prohibited firearms.

For residents, you would need a registration certificate for importing restricted firearms, and that's where a FRT is 100% required (and implied, but not explicitly stated), otherwise it cannot be registered to begin with. For NR the only requirement is for you to have a PAL. If it's a break action single shot shotgun, or a custom Rem700 barreled action, CBSA is gonna take one look at it and say "yeah, that's obviously NR" and not even bother opening the FRT.

Not to mention all those businesses submitting firearm samples to the RCMP for inspection and classification and to write a FRT to begin with. How are those firearms imported without a FRT? You tell me.
