Gun and gear reviews New NR UTAS Straight Pull 556/308?

I've seen some posts from a firearms retailer in Alberta social media and website and a couple private sellers online selling UTAS 556/308 AR10/AR15 straight pulls.

The rifle from what I'm reading is essentially an AR10/AR15 without a gas port in the upper and proprietary sized pivot/takedown pins to make it incompatible with normal AR10/AR15 but is otherwise it's an AR10/AR15.

Does anyone have any more information on this rifle? I can't find much online and there's no public FRT, I would imagine there's a private one that has not been released yet as it would be needed for importing the rifle from Turkey. Seems odd RCMP would've allowed this to pass as NR.

Can someone explain to me why I would buy one of these instead of just buying a nice bolt action rifle? I don't get the attraction.

If you've already got accessories and/or parts that you can't use anymore, this could be a way to use them again.

That's like throwing a corvette body on a Nissan ultima

Right? So because you don't have a Corvette anymore, but you still have Corvette wheels. You should buy a different type of car that's not a Corvette like a piece of shit chrysler 300 and put those Corvette wheels on it.

When the powers that be have banned "zoomy cars" and you've got the some really high quality wheels sitting in your garage, maybe you want to use those wheels, or your special steering wheel, or the custom suspension that you've got. Doesn't make the car into a Corvette, but maybe it's better than letting those parts collect dust.

I really don't get the appeal either.  If I want to run & gun I'd get a lever or pump. If I'm bench shooting I'll get a turnbolt.

It's an AR and you can't get them anymore, it's interesting.

That's not an Armalite 15 rifle.

It's a straight pull AR15, it's an AR15 without a gas system and with proprietary takedown/pivot pins, other than that it's identical to the average milspec ar15

You meant a straight pull that looks like an ar15.

I really hope that you're being sarcastic with me.

A Prius is car. It's not a sports car.

That is a rifle. It's not an AR 15.

Built on a AR15 chassis, AR15 Parts. Just because it wasn't manufactured by armalite doesn't mean it's not a ar15.
