Gun and gear reviews Fresh Brigade Makasi Initial Review
Jay's Blades and Bullets gave a more recent initial review of The Brigade Makasi. When he first got it, it would not cycle, but he sent it away for Brigade Arms to fix, and they seemed to have provided him great customer service. He says it is a little less accurate than the Carmel with a little harsher recoil impulse but is lighter than an MCX with similar recoil. He did swap in a different single-stage trigger, so it is nice to have confirmation that works. He says the Strike Industries pistol grip that came with it is nice, and also like the slim, light handguard. He did not the FAL-style stock was heavy, so those wanting a lighter build may want to swap it for a less-hefty stock. Anyways, FYI. Thanks!

News / Politics / Activism So I guess crossbows for home defense are legal now, as long as you shop on Amazon Canada?
Stumbled across this and was like, are they serious? Regardless of the spelling of defence or whatever, this could still be bought by a child? With no training or license.

Shooting Most Fun 22LR Rifle you'd recommend?
So when I bought my Adler Arms 22, I didn't think it would be a lemon.
What 22 cal rifle would you say is the most fun to shoot?

News / Politics / Activism Ford government joins Supreme Court challenge of 'assault-style' firearms ban
I know this is paywalled, but the headline says enough. The article is thin on details. It states that the Ontario government filed an “intervention notice” with the Supreme Court on May 19 in the CCFR’s challenge of the ASF bans. Can anyone explain what this means and if it actually means that Ford is backing the CCFR like it sounds? I’m not a fan of the Star but couldn’t find anything else about this.
From the article:
“The office of Ontario Attorney General Doug Downey confirmed the Ontario government filed an intervention notice on May 19 but said "we have no further comment."”

Buy recommendations How accurate is the Benelli R1 or Browning BAR MK4
Want a more accurate big game semi auto. So accuracy is key. I like the free floating barrel and (nearly) toolless takedown of the R1. But the BAR has more caliber options despite how much I am not a fan of their newer BARs.

Feets / Collection / My build 1 week with PAL
I know, guys. The KSG and Adler suck big time haha.
Anyway, they’re fun to shoot. The Adler gave me a couple of ejection issues with cheap low-velocity ammo. High-velocity ammo works much better.
The KSG is just cool. The recoil is insane. I definitely need to learn how to control it better.
And I know: “buy once, cry once.”
Next up: Renegade MKII.
Only buying from now on, never selling.

Shooting Anyone going to the Mission Rod and Gun this weekend?
If you are and wouldn't mind accompanying a guest, I'd like to tag along. I've heard good things about the club, particularly that it has a 300 yard range. Would be sweet to check it out before committing to the membership, since it is a bit of a drive for me.
Side discussion: what are some of the better ranges in the lower mainland?

News / Politics / Activism Kodiak Defense is working on making browning BAR clones with detachable mags apparently
Since the design is older than bill C-21 they should be able to make them AR mag compatible for the .223 and .308 versions (Pistol Mags). I do appreciate the effort, although execution can be lacking with them from time to time.

Feets / Collection / My build Russian SKS “build”
Bought this Russian SKS with a detachable magazine for 80 dollars used off a buddy back in 2018, oh how times have changed 😂
It’s been through several evolutions over the years , of course it sported the classic ati stock at some point but eventually I got tired of coming up with solutions to keep the pistol grip tight.
I bought it as a teenager, and absolutely shot the piss out of it, I have 5 empty crates to prove it . After a while i noticed it was getting a bit more difficult to shoot it out to further ranges on reduced sized targets so I setup a paper at 100 at the gun range.
Well she shot about a 12 MOA group , so I figured it was time to rebarrel it. A friend had a spare barrel he didn’t want any more so we did some horse trading and I got it off him.
Using some equipment I had access to I removed the front sight post , bayonet lug and cut the barrel to 18.7, threaded and re-crowned. It needed some machine work to index correctly and head space but it was all doable with a lathe and some patience.
While I was in there I powder coated the barrelled action , dust cover , and bolt carrier.
I can confidently say it’s a shooter now , initially shooting 2.5” groups with Chinese surplus ammo. I haven’t confirmed since.
The primary arms 3x prism is calibrated for 7.62x39 and works wonders out to a confirmed 450 yards; consistently hitting a full sized steel torso 5/5 when the wind dies
down.
I couldn’t count the miles this rifles been carried through the woods , and lord knows how many rounds it has seen between myself and the previous owner. Take care of these guns and they will take care of you !
We’ve all gotten the short stick with all these recent bans ; but remember gents there’s still fun to be had and get out there , be safe and enjoy your property!

Buy recommendations Makasi, Carmel, Both, or Neither?
Both non-restricted 5.56 short-stroke gas piston semiauto accepting Stanag mags. Both taking orders with similar delivery dates. What is your choice and your reasons?
Edit: So to summarize what y'all are saying: - Makasi for AR aesthetics and compatibility, - Carmel for reliability, - Both if you hate money, - Neither because of potential bans.

Feets / Collection / My build $175 gun store find
Found this lee Enfield no 1 mark 3 at the LGS. Was missing a mag. Happened to have a buddy with an extra mag. Picked it up for cheap. Probably slap a new stock on it since this one has had lots of "art" added to it.
Recommendations for a sub $200 stock for it? Not sure if I want try and restore it or go with a polymer stock.
Surprised no one makes a ranger point style stock for these.

Buy recommendations Watch my local gunsmith make 200$
This is the second time this happens (after 500 rounds and +115 rounds after that).
Because I re-screwed the picatinny rail screws and added blue loctite myself (which wasn't done from the factory), I've voided the warrant for this component according to Stoeger Canada. So basically I can't screw in my own loose screws without voiding warranty on the screws and threads.
I was gonna recommend all Beretta 1301 owners to loctite their thread when they buy their brand new shotgun, but I can't even properly recommend that.

Exporting firearms, ammunition, parts and accessories from the US: most items are controlled under ITAR and you cannot, as an individual, export these items from the USA. Canada does not care in most cases. If you attempt to bring any of these items across the border yourself and you are caught, you will face prison time in the US. If you wish to export items from the USA, use a broker such as IRUNGUNS, Aztech, or Prophet River.
If you took your CFSC and lost the paperwork, you can still apply for your PAL. Both your instructor and the CFP retain copies, you can request a copy by contacting either one. There is no expiration date on the paperwork, you do not have to retake the course. Updated list of scam websites is here.
