Feets / Collection / My build Russian SKS “build”
Bought this Russian SKS with a detachable magazine for 80 dollars used off a buddy back in 2018, oh how times have changed 😂
It’s been through several evolutions over the years , of course it sported the classic ati stock at some point but eventually I got tired of coming up with solutions to keep the pistol grip tight.
I bought it as a teenager, and absolutely shot the piss out of it, I have 5 empty crates to prove it . After a while i noticed it was getting a bit more difficult to shoot it out to further ranges on reduced sized targets so I setup a paper at 100 at the gun range.
Well she shot about a 12 MOA group , so I figured it was time to rebarrel it. A friend had a spare barrel he didn’t want any more so we did some horse trading and I got it off him.
Using some equipment I had access to I removed the front sight post , bayonet lug and cut the barrel to 18.7, threaded and re-crowned. It needed some machine work to index correctly and head space but it was all doable with a lathe and some patience.
While I was in there I powder coated the barrelled action , dust cover , and bolt carrier.
I can confidently say it’s a shooter now , initially shooting 2.5” groups with Chinese surplus ammo. I haven’t confirmed since.
The primary arms 3x prism is calibrated for 7.62x39 and works wonders out to a confirmed 450 yards; consistently hitting a full sized steel torso 5/5 when the wind dies
down.
I couldn’t count the miles this rifles been carried through the woods , and lord knows how many rounds it has seen between myself and the previous owner. Take care of these guns and they will take care of you !
We’ve all gotten the short stick with all these recent bans ; but remember gents there’s still fun to be had and get out there , be safe and enjoy your property!

Does that brake do anything at all?

Definitely makes it louder. But it is effective for muzzle rise and recoil.

Interesting... I've seen some brake testing on AKs and the right brake really does drop the recoil. I think it's time I drop my front sight too.

If you do it yourself, let me know I can give you some pointers that might save you some headache. I threaded it 1/2x28 then used a 5/8x24 adapter off eBay. Best of luck

Well done, love to see it. A true evolution and the prism is just perfect if you can get a solid rail/eye relief. 2.5" groups sounds fantastic as well, especially given the cheap ammo.

Looks great, only thing I don't like is the (prism?) Scope sticks way out the back! I'd likely put a red dot on it instead so I could move it forward. But thats just my personal aesthetic.
Otherwise, damn good looking rifle, looks great with the cut barrel!

Thanks. The reason for the prism is I didn’t want the weight of a red dot and magnifier , and with the eye box of a prism it has to be further back . But I agree red dots look better

Mind if I ask what mags you run?
FAB defense chassis was just purchased, KD optic rail purchased, and going to get the barrel threaded as soon as I have all the parts together..
I have made the choice to molest yet another SKS, this will be second. I loved my first one but it was ungodly heavy. Started to miss it after it was sold. I have another untouched and I am betting this Chassis will be much lighter.

Promag I believe. They still have the duck bills attached. Yeah they can get heavy quickly that’s why I opted for the prism , hardly any additional weight coming from there. Best of luck with build
