Buy recommendations Is it a good starter setup?
So after my recent post, i choose to start with a .22lr rifle for shooting range(100-300yards),it my first gun ever and i want to know guys if this setup it decent? My total budget is lil bit under 2k$ cad. Thanks you
( i have difficulty to choose the scope,too much specs to look)

Get some nicer ammo but you won’t be disappointed with that build. Nothing is overtly top of the line but it’s all solid stuff to get started and enjoy the sport. Have fun with it brother

CCI standard velocity for ok but cheap SK Sandard Plus for fancier but quite a bit more consistent.

I like Federal Automatch, but most of the CCI will do you well.
Aguila quality control is pretty bad- you get one decent box, one box that jams every third round, and one box that is nothing but squibs and slow-burns.

Genuinely you should buy one box of as many different types as you can reasonably afford, then go shoot em one at a time to find out what your gun likes.
Some guns, even same make/model, vary wildly with ammo preference. I've seen expensive guns shoot very well with cheap ammo and I've seen expensive ammo that won't group for shit. Part of the fun is the sciencey bit of figuring out what you and your setup like best.
Rule 1 is have fun and shoot lots!

This has been true of my four 10/22s. Three would take anything I fed them, one only seems to take Aguila.

More details elsewhere in this thread but, yeah, my RPRR loves mini-mags more than any of the fancier stuff. Which is great, since the RPRR and the 10/22 share mags and my 10/22 also likes them.

Get the mdt oryx m lok bipod instead. The magpul one flexes more.

The magpul is ok if you just need to have a compact bipod for plinking. But for long range shooting with intent to be accurate - the MDT is a better option.

I rarely use my bipod and prefer to use bags to shoot instead.
Also, I've had really bad luck with Aguila Super Extra, but I'm using it in a semi-auto. See if you can get CCI Standard Velocity, which is better for precision shooting, but it's sold out in a lot of places. Standard velocity, lead round nose ammo is more accurate for precision shooting since it stays below the sound barrier.
You may want to look at a CZ 457 or T1x instead of the Ruger, as they are more popular for 22LR precision shooting. A CZ 457 with a heavy or Varmint Match barrel will carry you a long way. The CZ 457 and T1x have a lot of aftermarket parts for precision shooting too (e.g., barrels, triggers, chassis systems), which makes them great bases to build on.
For the scope, a Bushnell Match Pro ED or Arken EP5 Gen II is a good start. Get the scope in MIL.
Lastly, check out Tesro. They carry a lot of high-end precision shooting gear that you can drool over.

Yeah 😭 I’ve been hunting everywhere too.
Some other options:
Norma TAC-22 (except for its greasy feeling), Federal AutoMatch, SK’s and Eley’s cheaper options. Aguila 22 LR Standard Velocity 40 Gr LSP.
CCI Blazers and CCI Mini Mags are also good choices too, although they are faster than SV ammo.
For your rings, Vortex Sport rings will do fine on a 22lr, cheaper than the Arken rings by 30-40%.

For the t1x and cz457 , they are like double and triple the price of ruger. My max budget for all setup it 1800-2000$

You can get a base CZ457 which is about the same price as the Ruger, then upgrading the chassis, barrel, as you go.
CZ457 Pro Varmint Threaded is about $1,050 and is ready to go for precision shooting.
CZ 457 Varmint MTR w/ 20" barrel is $1,250 and is precision ready.
CZ457 MDT XRS 20" is double the price of the Ruger, but comes with a nice MDT stock, which still leaves you $500 for the scope. It's on sale at the store you selected the rifle above 😄
If you buy the Ruger, it's a dead end, there are much fewer upgrades for it.

The CZ 457 is pretty good and echoing /u/Hot_Cheesecake_905's reasoning that you can always buy a chassis later.
Any aftermarket chassis will be a heck of a lot better than the RPR in stock form.
Upgradability may not matter much to you, but I do think the CZ 457 or tika T1x are vastly better platforms per dollar.

I hate bags for bench shooting I used them for years before switching over to a bipod and absolutely enjoy shooting with it way more You can lean in and preload the rifle into the bipod and easy to adjust height. I will use the rear bag sometimes depending on the range I'm at

Just wanna throw it out, i’d get the setup together and order a box or two of different .22 brands and test and see which works best then make a big time buy. 2000 rounds will take a long time in a bolt action

I tried 10 different rounds from 4 different manufacturers until I found a 100 meter bullet that blew me away.
All I gotta say is Fuck Stingers.

As someone that owns the Ruger
I wouldn't buy it again. It's not a bad gun. But there's much better for not much more.
I'd sooner get a tikka t1x or a cz 457.
For ammo my Ruger loves Eley. Whether it be match, club or tenax.
CCI standard is meh in it past 50 years
Unless you already know moa I would suggest going with mrad as well on the optic

I primarily shoot at 200 yards with a 457 with a match barrel.
Your gonna need match grade ammo at that distance. Things like CCI and Anguilla are gonna varry up to 11 inches vertically at 200 yards.
SK Magazine and SK Long Range Match are my gotos. SK Long range is slightly higher velocity and will be more vertically consistent.
I can consistently hit a 4 inch steel circle at 200 yards with that. With CCI, I might make 1 in 10 shots of I'm lucky.
CCI is great for 100 yards and closer.

Not bad at all but I’d go with several different brands of .22lr ammo vs going all in on 2000 Aguila. You’re going to want to figure out what your specific rifle likes. Every rifle is different.

With a new rife spend the extra on ammo at beginning. Put a few hundred rounds of CCI through it before going to the cheap stuff. Also think about ditching the bipod and instead getting more magazines,its not fun to only have 1.

Please listen to the other people saying go with a cz 457 and different bipod.
It is a rifle with a history of proven accuracy. They are used in so many competitions for a reason.
I was shooting my 457 Pro Varmint and reliably hitting at a 3" gong at 450' in my backyard today with crap Winchester bulk ammo.

And if you're gonna be shooting that far with a twenty two get subsonic, it doesn't hit its own shockwave, so it maintains better accuracy over distance

Personally I’d get a Harris bipod, they’re tried and true and it’s what I’m used to now. Plus I love the look of the exposed springs.
I’m not familiar with Arken but I’d recommend Vortex for a good budget optic that has a fantastic warranty

There’s allot of 22 magnum scopes (different caliber than 22LR) and they work so freaking good for half the price.
Entirely your call but this is a good set up for sure. 22 shooting as an intro to marksmanship is a great choice

Once you shoot a box of Aguila, you will forever recognise the brand by smell.
You'll know when someone else is shooting it in a reasonable distance.

Owned a RPR at one time. Chassis and bolt are sloppy. It'll shoot anything but as others have suggested CCI standard is probably your best bet. S&B have their Canadian "match" (it's far from it) and it'll work fine.
Buy a bag(s) and ditch the bipod, it's another thing to learn.
It hasn't the best fit so get someone experienced to show you how to align and torque it down correctly.
Personally I'd save up and skip the RPR and again as others have suggested buy a CZ457. If you want that skeletonize chassis look get a real metal one and buy a Tikka T1X

Honestly unless you need 22lr for some reason, you should get 17 HMR instead. Then later grab a TM22 Pro 16!
For scope you should definitely grab a Discoveryopt ED GENII or the XED

Honestly I would suggest you spend a few extra hundred and pick up a bagara b14r. Over the Ruger precision rimfire. It will leave you a lot more room to upgrade. I started out with the precision rimfire to get into the rimfire sport. and quickly started to outshoot it. The b14r is built off a rem 700 action. So basically all REM 700 aftermarket chassis like such from MDT fit it. Or even a CZ457 or tikka T1x
Also for the bipod I would suggest the MDT ground pod. It's $280 verse $180. But IMO is a much nicer bipod. And you can get it in ARCA
As for ammo. Every rimfire rifle is different. What you're going to have to do is buy a bunch of the higher end 22LR ammos and just group them all to see which one groups better in your specific gun. Also the cheapest ammo why would shoot out of a bolt rimfire is CCI standard(good for practice). Once you find what brand your gun likes then you can start experimenting with ammo batches
Lastly whatever scope you land on get one in MRAD not MOA. Practically everybody is running MRAD now. So it will be a lot easier to exchange dope

After looking. Ar some reviews I would highly recomend the MDT ORYX bypod over the magpull. Allot of the reviews I read cited stability and build quality problems espetially compared to the oryx. I ended up buying an oryx and I love it

I'd stay away from the Ruger. If you have a problem with it and you have to send it into their authorized service center regardless if you pay for it or not. They take months to even give you a quote. Well over a year to actually do any kind of repair. Warranty or not. Better off with the CZ 457 in my opinion they're far more accurate as well.

Then you can move into aome match grade stuff later on

You can definitely save some money on rings, I swear these things are made in the same factory as vortex rings, same quality for a fraction of the price. They have held up well with my 44 mag so 22lr will be a non issue
