Funny that their only MP just switched to the LPC too

Maybe can give Provost some team advice now. Your personal problems are not my territory’s problems.
14
u/Jesus-c Mar 21 '26
You should look at the charge her son is facing. Can hurt to be friend with Carney in that kind of situation.
27
u/JohnnyCanuck133 Mar 20 '26
I came here to say the exact same thing. lol They're holding the line for sure.
16
u/Golanthanatos Mar 20 '26
Do they just not want to say zero. Why be intentionally vague, the other numbers are single digit accurate.
15
u/AcanthisittaNo7338 Mar 20 '26
Less than 10, "Damnit Gord!" 🤣
13
u/RaHarmakis Mar 21 '26
I wonder if it's actually Zero and someone thought that less than 10 looked better than Zero.
89
u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 Mar 20 '26
It would be interesting to see per capita of PAL holders how many firearms are reported by province.
58
u/draftstone Mar 20 '26
Here is the total amount of PAL per province according to a RCMP report from 2024.
Alberta 373 795
BC 366 827
Manitoba 103 078
New Brunswick 76 447
Newfoundland 75 729
NWT 5 950
Nova Scotia 79 821
Nunavut 3 303
Ontario 690 082
PEI 7 261
Quebec 499 272
Saskatchewan 121 876
Yukon 8 771
40
u/pinuscontortas Mar 20 '26
Damn, go Ontario.
55
u/draftstone Mar 20 '26
By capita, Quebec is impressive!
Ontario, was estimated to have roughly 16 million people in 2024. This means 4300 pal per 100k. Quebec had roughly 9 million people. This means 5500 pal per 100k. As much as people say Quebec is anti-gun, it is a very very loud minority. If you leave the big cities (Montreal and Quebec), there are quite a lot of guns in Quebec!

ontario probably has the most collections that are large in number and full of valuable prohibs from decades ago. lots of rich collectors in the GTA

Clearly there are more gun nuts in Ontario and Quebec than Alberta. Do better Alberta. How are you supposed to be "Texas of the North" with those numbers?

u/Mo-Cance Mar 20 '26
I'd also be interested in a headcount, instead of only counting firearms. How many people have actually gone through with a declaration? Again, comparing that to PAL holders.
18
u/FenderFanatic Mar 20 '26
Exactly this. The number of firearms doesn't interest me. I would've preferred that none were declared but here we are. I would like to know how many PAL holders did declare out of the total number of PAL holders. Such a waste of time and money, I'd care less about the budget deficit if it was actually put towards helpful things (the border perhaps?). I suppose the numbers don't really tell us anything important though because we all know that none of the declared firearms are getting turned in by criminals to help make Canada safer.
8
u/Brandon_awarea Mar 20 '26
And how many firearms were restricted vs non restricted.
5
u/Randers19 Mar 20 '26
I bet the majority were restricted because those people have no choice
16
u/bosco781 bc Mar 20 '26
We sure do. I've got an AR lower and for the $150 I paid for it I'll gladly throw it in a woodchipper on Oct 29th instead of add to their numbers.
5

5
u/icyhotbackpatch Mar 20 '26
Ya I’m still not handing in restricted. They’ll get a picture of it torch cut in half and cast in epoxy.
5
2
u/Randers19 Mar 20 '26
Just send them a picture of a melted Block of steel and say that used to be it
1
2
u/EatAss-FartFast Mar 20 '26
It’s gotta be much lower if they’re sticking to “number of firearms declared” versus “number of participants” especially non-businesses that had to sell/rid of useless inventory
79
u/DirtCheap1972 Mar 20 '26
WTF BC come on
29
u/HungLikeTeemo Mar 20 '26
If I had to guess, a large majority of these are from gunshops or family members of deceased gun owners turning in firearms to the RCMP. There are also a lot of old farts in BC that have firearms, but their sons/daughters/grandkids don't have PALs.
My grandfather was, a few years back, dealing with a passed friend, as he was the executor. The gentleman had a gorgeous collection of firearms and reloading equipment. He didn't have the energy or room for the firearms, so he called the RCMP to come get them all. A damn shame, but I presume this sort of thing must happen all the time. If I were the gov, and my buyback program was doing horribly, I'd count every single firearm returned regardless of the circumstances to inflate my horrible numbers.
18
u/Ninja_Terror Mar 20 '26
I tried to will my guns to a younger buddy, but his wife forbade him. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He's got a bigger problem than owning a gun.
10
u/throwaway11100217 Mar 20 '26
Hey, it's me your buddy, wife is a-ok and onboard now. We just moved, I'll send you my new address 😂
4
u/Arbakos Mar 20 '26
When I did my pal course the most common reason people gave for doing it was that they needed it to inherit their grandfather's gun, and one guy unfortunately was bit late and lost a family heirloom going back 3 or 4 generations to the RCMP.
1
u/Ninja_Terror Mar 20 '26
The ones in my course wanted to hunt, but I doubt most of them had seen a deer. I suspect we're in different regions. 😏
When my father passed my relative gave up his handguns because he didn't want to bother with a restricted license. I believe there is a grace period, so if I'd known I would have applied at the time. He had some nice handguns.
3
u/VanillaHighlights Mar 20 '26
"Hey cops, come get a free five digit value of firearms for your recruits."
Boo
2
u/permalias Mar 21 '26
Your reasons aren't specific to BC though? Other provinces would show similar results for those categories. It's not like BC is the only place with gun stores and deaths

8
u/platinumresto Mar 20 '26
That was my thought too, goddamn it. We got pretty mountains and coast line but what the fuck people
2
u/H0B013 Mar 20 '26
I was equally surprised given how rural most of our gun owners are, until I remembered this includes businesses. We have (I guess had) a LOT of small shops that dealt mostly in "tactical" firearms. Not to mention having three bass pros that all had big ass inventories
42
78
u/rastamasta45 Mar 20 '26
We’re looking at a compliance of 31% using the governments woefully under counted number. The real compliance rate of 4% or 2% depending on the real number of affected firearms.
46
u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Mar 20 '26
31% of restricted firearms included in the 2020 OIC (107,000), that is.
Industry estimates puts it at ~2 million firearms so yeah, lol
24
u/Ov3rReadKn1ght0wl Mar 20 '26
Was going to say lol. This is far below sub-50% compliance for the buyback. With the budget already thoroughly blown, I don't know how they intend to actually collect let alone pay out. Which is really pathetic for a program that they pushed so hard.
4
u/Golanthanatos Mar 20 '26
So assuming these are all restricted that auto declared, or people had no choice, is that even all of them?
17
u/Disastrous-Panic-87 Mar 20 '26
Not even close. There are over 105 000 formerly known registered restricted firearms. And that was before they banned many non-restricted firearms.
3
u/Ov3rReadKn1ght0wl Mar 20 '26
Far from it. Nationally, this is still less than half of the lowball projection of around 140k firearms.
1
u/Apples_and_Overtones Your feet suck and so do you Mar 20 '26
IIRC how it works is that it'll "auto declare" the restricteds but doesn't submit anything. That is up to the user.
4
u/luckeycat Mar 20 '26
If thats their estimate then they didn't do ANY homeowrk and have no idea who has what.
3
u/Barbarian_818 Mar 20 '26
Well, the entire program smacks of an irrational, even prejudiced approach to firearms. So ignorance on the part of the decision makers is to be expected.
Don't get me wrong, there are clearly some midlevel folks who know a lot about the firearms program and how the FRT works. At some point, a policy maker points to a scary tacticool firearm and says "ban everything that is related to this" and that knowledgeable functionary does an excellent job of identifying everything even cosmetically similar.
The result is a thoroughly curated list, but supporting a program that is self sabotaging.
2
u/drugstoremechanic Mar 20 '26
I have said it before, and I will say it again: they have no idea what they're doing.
2
u/613mitch Mar 20 '26
We’re looking at a compliance of 31% using the governments woefully under counted number.
Not necessarily, because there's no guarantee these declarations are restricted. Anyone signing up with an NR dilutes the total amount of firearms to be declared. We'll need to know how many of those declared are actually restricted.
1
u/Rangerjon94 Mar 20 '26
True but I suppose we have to always consider that this already low turnout is "padded" to some degree but I take your point the depth of the padding is pretty unknownable.
37
u/TheSockington Mar 20 '26

I haven't signed up for shit. I adamantly refuse to hand my guns over to the government. I will destroy them myself if I have to, these fucks aren't getting any of my shit.
Be like me, not like these people who gave in, whose guns will be used for propaganda photos for the government while they get no money.

u/SniperTeamTango Mar 20 '26
Y'all need to consider there are probably a ton of people who are seeing this as the only way to get money out of something they "can't" use in a time where household cash is hella low
The long term is beyond them
19
u/renegade2point0 Mar 20 '26
So gutless for this "compensation" to be dangled out during such an inflationary time where people are really struggling financially.... And even the "compensation" isn't being done honestly or fairly.
14
u/Other-Negotiation328 Mar 20 '26
I know a few people who's professions unfortunately are worth more than saying fuck the buyback.
Some people have security clearances and such that they can't justify possibly losing their jobs over keeping a couple firearms out of the many they own.
It's unfortunate, but the way it works sadly.
6
u/rastamasta45 Mar 20 '26
I mean that’s exactly it, they’re using the fact you have a life to threaten you to ruin it.
Criminals don’t care. They just keep harming people. But the tax payer with kids, you can destroy this person, destroy their kids and ensure it’s more people who need the LPC welfare just to survive. It’s compliance through brutality.
The more you harm your law abiding citizens, the more you can get away with stripping their rights.
4
u/Spirited_Pop2211 Mar 20 '26
So they could have waited until amnesty is up and then destroyed it themselves instead of feeding this bullshit program, and they would still be getting the $0 they would get from declaring anyway. As others said cowards.
6
u/Other-Negotiation328 Mar 20 '26
Yeah, I never said I agreed or disagreed with them, was simply pointing out why some people have participated.
I don't know if theirs were restricted or what so can't offer anything other than what I was told.
5
u/rastamasta45 Mar 20 '26
The government is banking on the fact they successfully destroyed this country and Canadians are barely surviving, this is why the program is hunger games style.
50% of Canadians are pay cheque to pay cheque. 6.7% unemployment and we still haven’t see the true effects of inflation from the Iran war.
Many many Canadians will give up a gun for the chance to eat. It’s fucking cruel.
Glad we voted this sick government in a 4th time.

u/EcstaticStock499 Mar 21 '26
Yes. This is wise.
Heck I feel like trolling anyone who might be surveilling me by generating a new transfer reference number for myself every other day at work. I work at a gun/hardware/fishing/liquor/lumber store (plus lumberyard and gas station haha). I’m the sporting goods guy. I generate those reference numbers for people all the time as part of the process…they don’t always end up actually buying, sometimes a person changes their mind at the last minute, or forgot their wallet, or their wife found out and protested 🤣. Point is, all they know is a person was greenlit to buy a gun with that ref number. They have no idea if they actually did, or how many guns, or what guns were bought if non restricted, etc…
8
u/TescoValueSoup Mar 20 '26
Jokes on them, now they need to figure out if I own a Javelin or not.

Can you low IQ motherfuckers shut the fuck up?
It's backlog inventory from businesses, because the lower mainland in fact has one of the better tactical shooting scenes in the country and had businesses catering to that by stocking ARs. Vancouver has the most pro-gun under-40 population of any real city in this country.

12
u/beginnerdoge Mar 20 '26
These numbers should all be 0. I am disappointed
2
u/Critical_Bat9142 Mar 21 '26
My guess it’s gun shop that have nothing to do with the prohibited firearms. Or people who got guns from a dead relative and aren’t into firearms. I don’t see anyone who is a gun owner wanting to comply with this stupid law.
2
u/beginnerdoge Mar 22 '26
Well at least Nunavut is basically saying fuck it, polar bears are a real threat there
7
u/blueline731 Mar 20 '26
I’d wager this isn’t even 5% compliance when you take into account the massive amount of non-restricteds banned by OIC. What a joke lmao
11
u/dgod40 Mar 20 '26
Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program for INDIVIDUALS started on January 19, 2026 and will end on March 31, 2026.
"probably includes business" - nope "I wonder if this is businesses that can't sell" - nope
These are most likely people with Restricted firearms that aren't "hardcore" gun people. They see an email from the RCMP to give up their guns for "compensation" and they comply.
3
u/Critical_Bat9142 Mar 21 '26
What proof you have those numbers don’t include business that sell guns?
5
u/_MlCE_ Mar 20 '26
This is a totally UNSCIENTIFIC observation, and should not be taken at face value... however.
On Gunpost, there are currently 10,540 "firearm" ads as of this writing.
If you filter by provinces, the number (and percentage out of 10,540) are as follows:
- Ontario: 3,580 (33.96%)
- Alberta: 1,907 (18.09%)
- British Columbia: 1,517 (14.39%)
- Quebec: 1,176 (11.15%)
- Manitoba: 736 (6.98%)
- Nova Scotia: 567 (5.37%)
- Saskatchewan: 457 (4.33%)
- New Brunswick: 450 (4.27%)
- Prince Edward Island: 58 (0.55%)
- Newfoundland: 55 (0.52%)
- Territories: 37 (0.35%)
Now if we look at the gun grab stats based on 47,000 declarations, and the numbers per province, the percentages would therefore be something like:
- Ontario: 19,176 (40.8%)
- British Colombia: 10,962 (23.32%)
- Quebec: 7,386 (15.71%)
- Alberta: 4,519 (9.61%)
- Manitoba: 1,153 (3.30%)
- Nova Scotia: 1,149 (2.44%)
- New Brunswick: 820 (1.74%)
- Saskatchewan: 793 (1.68%)
- Newfoundland: 343 (0.73%)
- Territories (Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories): 172 (0.36%)
- Prince Edward Island: 132 (0.28%)
I'm no mathematician, but if we compare people trying to sell stuff vs. people declaring their prohibited stuff - we can see that the percentages based on what we can assumed to be the number of PAL/RPAL owners to be roughly the same.
Ontario leads the way in private sales, and declarations. Nova Scotia is right at the middle...
But more importantly, most provinces only switched 2 positions in both lists, so it gives us a rough idea of how many people by percentage of a known sum - are actively trying to get rid of their stuff.
Again this shouldn't be taken as fact since this is only circumstantial evidence at best, using only two sources - one is a website, and the other is the government...

u/Accomplished-Beat779 Mar 20 '26
Where do they even take then? Considering most Police forces have opted out. It would be a hard no for me if I did have such items.
4
4
u/Puzzleheaded-Tie35 Mar 20 '26
So even at the relatively conservative estimate of 2 million newly prohibited firearms, that's only a 2.35% compliance rate.

u/prosper_0 Mar 20 '26
I'd love to see how many of those were previously 'restricted' guns (i.e. already registered), as opposed to non-restricted guns. How many of those declarations are truly voluntary, instead of 'well, the gubbmit already knows about this gun anyway...'

Are these stores that can’t move inventory, deceased (R)PAL holders, people moving away from the country, ..etc?
I’ve got no doubt a small amount of people will most likely surrender their property, but for the most part seems like we’re all in solidarity on the issue

Can someone find the data and do the math, how many have been declared since last published number?
1
1
u/IamDaddyDon Mar 20 '26
So my friend has a previously restricted already registered bren 2 he wants to follow the law and not jeopardize his license but civil disobedience. He’s asking my advice but I’m really not sure and especially don’t want him in trouble. Is that an automatic declare?
2
u/613mitch Mar 20 '26
Nothing is automatic, you need to sign in and confirm the declaration.
Your friend can legally keep it until at least the end of october this year. If they do not extend the amnesty, your friend only needs to surrender or destroy themselves and report destroyed the serialized component, which is the upper receiver on the bren2's I believe. The rest of the gun is gun parts.
1
u/IamDaddyDon Mar 21 '26
Genuinely appreciate the info. So much floating around it’s hard to land on anything concrete
1
u/Fuck_you_all22 Mar 20 '26
Wow a lot. But that is a quarter of registered restricted. I wonder how much they would get. BC is surprisingly high and qc is surprisingly low.

Does anyone know if these numbers are all encompassing (including retail stores)? Or just individuals?
1
u/Common_Thought_828 Mar 20 '26
Hey guys I havent really been keeping updated but I just got the final warning email, is anyone holding? I was planning to just hold onto it and wait it out hopefully something changes down the road?

Is anyone holding? lol did you not see the dismal number of declared gun on this post?
1
u/Revolutionary_Tip161 Mar 20 '26
Someone posted yesterday that the budget for the buyback was cut from 250 million to 68.5 million. They don’t mention if this list includes store inventories or if it’s just individual owners. Either way it doesn’t sound like there’s enough money assuming that budget includes paying various organizations to facilitate the confiscations and the advertising etc.
