Hi, I have a question for you. I recently went to the hospital because I had a depressive episode and the police came to my house with a search warrant to take my guns and ammo for my safety which I honestly do not mind at all.

But I had a GSG16 which I didn't sold nor deactivate since the gun ban.. What is the worse outcome as of today? I mean I technically still had it in my possession so can I or will I be charged with possession of a prohibited firearm? I was released from the hospital the same day I came in.

I literally just wanted to talk with someone when I called 911, I wasn't suicidal at all, I have the same job for quite a while and am a part-time student.

I do not want any criminal charges because I went and asked some help, it would literally be insane. I'm kind of stressed out right now.

Hey I'm out here in mainland BC and I have saved up for this rifle throughout college. There is no other firearm, cartridge or experience I desire other than firing 338 Lapua regardless of cost. Since it isn't a handgun or a shortened rifle I shouldn't need an rpal correct? That would also mean it is easier to buy a 50cal vs a handgun correct?

Edit: Bit of an impulse buy. I've looked at one for years and now I have to find a way to spend the money I always gave to my partner. I'd like to chase some passions again.

I got my PAL ~20 years ago and only now decided to upgrade to get the Restricted license. I finished the Restricted course and had a question regarding section G of the application. My instructor told me I could likely just leave Section G 20. A and C blank. I’m not sure if that’s the correct advice.

A) have you passed the Canadian Forearms Safety Course? Yes, No, year, proof.

B) have you been certified by the Chief Forearms Officer…? Yes, No, proof

Forgive my ignorance, but can I leave these blank and submit my new R application? Or will it be declined?

I don’t have any documentation for either of these.

Hello everyone, and happy long weekend.
I wanted to share my timeline for the non-restricted and restricted PAL.
I applied online on April 4, 2026. My reference checks were completed the next day. By May 4, 2026, my licence was approved and shipped.
I received my PAL in my mailbox last Tuesday.

I’m looking for a decent budget red dot sight to add on my .22 wildcat for some fun plinking. I’d be willing to spend up to 150-200$

I have to get my PAL/RPAL for school - but I'm not familiar with this world at all. Am I screwed? Any tips? I've talked to some people who run the course local to me and they seem to think its completely doable.

Any and all advice honestly welcome. My partner only has their PAL so he's not too familiar with the RPAL.

I've looked up my question in this sub and I'm only getting results from 10+ years ago - so I'm just throwing it out there again to see whats new.

I'm curious about the legal aspects of an abandoned restricted or prohibited firearm. If someone owned let's say an ar15 but went to live abroad for a while. They stored it at my house but then never returned. What is the legal status the the firearm? I would not have a registration certificate (in my name) and the owner can't be charged assuming they never return. Would I be in possession of an illegal firearm? If it was turned into the police and then the owner returned many years later would they be charged upon arrival with an offense?

Seems like lots of Canadians are leaving Canada lately and I wonder what happens if they don't live up to all the legislation on the way out.

I'm applying for my PAL. Just got proper photos taken. Now I am reading that I need to affix a sticker to the back of the photo with my name, my guarantor's name, and their signature. Do I seriously need to get a sticker made and then stick in on the back? Or can I just glue/tape it?

Label Instructions

1. Cut the photo to fit the size requirements.
2. Print your name and your guarantor's name on the sticker.
3. Have your guarantor sign it and complete the Photo Guarantor section of your application.
4. Affix the sticker to the back of your photo.
5. Enclose the photograph with your application.

How long does it take on an average to get the exemption letter from BCTSA Since I joined and sent them an email, i haven’t received any response from them yet. Not even acknowledgment email ( if there is of some sort? H. Been about a week.

The Saskatchewan Firearms Appraisal and Verification App to receive a certificate of exemption has launched.

Will be interesting to see how well this works / doesn't work out in the end.

As title, as per Canada Post regs they want a trigger lock AND locked in a secure container. This would add $60 minimum to shipping cost ( 2 locks and a cheap case). How are people shipping their online-sold firearms?

As title. My new restricted rifle arrived in Canada two weeks ago and since then myself and a couple buddies all have not received approval for the transfer by the CFO. We all called and were told this can take several more weeks...

Is there anything that can be done about this? It seems this is only happening in BC as my friends from Alberta and Ontario all got their approval within 2-3 days.

Is it legal to buy gun parts like Faux suppressor ( for 22lr) in US and get it to Canada by road? I'm going to declare at the boarder of course. Do anyone have any experience getting parts ?
If its a hassle at the border , I can buy it here . But those are wayy cheaper there

Weird title sorry. Spoke with the guy at WW and he said this and his Giga Chad end cap will be legal in Canada since there is no noise attenuation.

What do you guys think? I have a Botnia brake right now and the blast is significant. I wouldn't mind trying this but don't want to purchase anything that would be considered a suppressor.

Hey Guys, long time listener, first time caller. I have a complex situation here, i'll try to lay out the details and get some advice or clarity.

My Neighbour unfortuneatly passed away early last year, and had a small collection of restricted and one prohibited handgun. His wife, passed away early this year and left their kids to navigate the estate etc. Their son is now the executor of their estate.

Their son has obtained his PAL/RPAL, but obviously with the freezes does him little to no good. He is considering deactivating the firearms as opposed to a straight up surrender.

Which leads me to my first question, is there any gunsmiths in the Manitoba region that can handle deactivations?

They seem to be few and far between, i've given him some contact info for guys in our area but recomendations are appreciated.

Second question: Assuming he will need an ATT to transfer to the gunsmith anyways, is it difficult to transfer them from province to province for deactivations sake? If not recomendations in the Calgary AB area for gunsmiths to complete the deactivation are welcome as well.

Third question: Is there any chance he would be able to "lend" the restricted firearms to himself as the executor of the estate? I understand this is more of a CFO question, but i was hoping to get feedback if anyone has personally done this or at least attempted to. I understand this option still exists for individual to individual, but the executor to person sitution complicates things.

The intent isn't that he keeps the handguns indefinitely, but moreso to buy the guy some time to work through the other aspects of the estate, then get his feet under him and get the guns deactivated. Ideally he would get some time to enjoy the guns while he has them in his possession.

Knowing his father, he would be sad to see them surrendered, and would be happy to know his guns got enjoyed as long as possible before ultimately having them deactivated.

Any advice or help is appreciated! Sorry for the long winded post. Obligatory "man our gun laws suck"

Not sure if this was the place to ask but not sure where else to go/what to necessarily do.

A few years back a friend and I took the Firearms licensing courses and got our paperwork, I submitted mine, got my PAL/RPAL but never ended up getting a gun/shooting more than a few times with some other friends. This friend in question never submitted his paperwork so he still has to go through the application and all that but he did pass the course so he has it.

My question is who should I contact regarding him potentially not being a good fit for a gun. He's my friend and has been for over a decade but in the past few years, I've seen him become a lot angrier, he lashes out a lot more (e.g started hitting punching his car because he forgot swim trunks for a beach trip, the beach was a 7 min drive from where we stayed so we could've just drove back), and honestly his politcal takes are starting to make me nervous, especially with how he has supported the assassination of several political figures/commentators in very recent times. The thing is he is also a kind person, smart, good job, and the only time I've ever seen him fight other people was when they had started it. Ultimately though, I am nervous about the idea of him having a gun and the potential for this mindset he has to get worse and he maybe acts on something. I did have a sit down with him before and talked to him about his anger problems and how maybe he needs to reconsider owning a gun but that conversation didn't go the greatest and I doubt he will be asking me to be his reference for his PAL application.

Maybe I'm too worried, and if so, please call me out but if not, I'd be thankful for advice.

I am seeing mixed messaging on here and wanted to get some clarification. Would the handgun freeze be lifted if CCFR wins at the Supreme Court of Canada? I thought the handgun freeze was a law now, and so that would be unaffected if the OICs were overturned?

Therefore the only way to actually acquire handguns in the future would be if a new government came in and removed the law.

So I’ve recently received my PAL and my aunt has told me she’d like my to have my grandfather’s old Winchester 1894. What’s the process for this? Is it as simple as just going to pick it up, what with the registry not existing anymore? That’s what she seems to think but I feel like there’s gotta be some kind of catch.

Caracal USA - CMP9 9mm PCC

Although it is called a pistol in the video, Caracal produces a semi-auto only variant of their CMP9 firearm. Could this be submitted as a rifle with a stock for an FRT entry, either with an existing restricted barrel, or with an extended NR barrel? The design pre-dates C21. Or is the fact there is a military variant make this too big a risk? If it could be submitted, could stocks of MP5-esque mags and 9 mm barrels from Sterling's banned R9 be used to make these? Howdy. I've very excitingly obtained a job in Canada on a working holiday (IEC) visa basis which starts in mid May. It will be in wilderness and the employer specifies PAL possesion is desirable although training with bear bangers etc will be provided. I am considering bringing a firearm following my successful PAL Course completion in April, just because A. safe firearms possession seems like a good skill set for my wider outdoors career (I intend to continue work in the outdoors for several years), and B. I genuinely dont want to hurt an animal and much prefer they run away from a loud noise, but fundamentally if it is me or a bear, its gonna be a bear.

My plan is to fly to Vancouver to set up residence in April and do some courses (first aid, PAL), open a bank account etc, and then fly to Montreal for work in May. Rather than go through the annoyance of purchasing a firearm plus suitable secure travel case, I was wondering if it is common practice for PAL owners to be able to lease a firearm plus case from a shop and then return it during my 'off time' (the job is 4 weeks on 1 week off). Renting tools like disc cutters, chainsaws, drills here instead of buying them outright is very common.

My fiancée and I were going to get our RPAL here soon, and I was struggling to find official documents or a Canadian government website outlining the actual benefits of owning a RPAL. I wanted to get handguns/semi-auto rifles, but I’ve been told that they are prohibited?

If anyone can let me know the benefits of holding a RPAL or point me towards a site that outlines everything, I would appreciate it a lot.
