Application / Regulation advice Caracal CMP9 in rifle config for Canada FRT possible?

Caracal USA - CMP9 9mm PCC

Although it is called a pistol in the video, Caracal produces a semi-auto only variant of their CMP9 firearm. Could this be submitted as a rifle with a stock for an FRT entry, either with an existing restricted barrel, or with an extended NR barrel? The design pre-dates C21. Or is the fact there is a military variant make this too big a risk? If it could be submitted, could stocks of MP5-esque mags and 9 mm barrels from Sterling's banned R9 be used to make these? Thanks!

Legal nerds correct me if I’m wrong but it has to be a pre 2023 design to even be considered. It’s why the Carmel and the makasi have gotten the “green light “

Designed and manufactured before 2023.12.15 to be precise

The select fire version was created in 2022 for the UAE, to allow use of their stock of MP5 mags on a modern ergo firearm after their MP5s wore out. The semi-auto version was released in the States this year. Not sure how this works for C21. Did the Carmel start as select fire?

I believe the RCMP told me it was the specific design, so it wouldn’t be allowed. That said, it was an offhand comment and came with a request to send an email for a more official/valid response, which I haven’t done yet, so it might work differently.

If you don't have access with a prohib license yourself, you may want to ask IRunGuns to submit a sample (including a full stock) with restricted but longer barreled CMP9 for evaluation. Probably worth the gamble of one sample for them to try.

I'm desperate for the return of PCCs. Mine all got lost in a canoeing accident at the grand canyon. I can't justify the homesteader.

There are options other than the homesteader

Let's be real here; their ban wishlist is 'everything' but they know that's a pipedream so they'll settle for "just" all semi-autos and probably anything fed from detachable mags (if they can feasibly get away with it).

the fact that they havent seem to have discovered the makasi or carmel yet seems to suggest they dont follow along here too frequently

I think it's wishful thinking those aren't on their radar.

IMO if they're going to talk about them, it'll be after importation. Complaining about a FA not even in the country (beyond some R versions) might be considered bad optics, since the only source they can blame is the lab.

they are probably waiting for SCC case against ccfr or they are drafting legislation against all semis

The way the various OICs came out, along with phrasing of legislation makes me think it wasn't that labour intensive.

The whole thing makes me think that some intern was handed chunks of the FRT and told to Google Image search each entry. Then put an X beside any firearm that had a military looking firearm come up as the top result.

The result is, if I can be permitted a bit of exaggeration, that even a black powder smooth bore musket would get banned if the tactical crowd put it in a shell to give it mounting rails for a scope and pouches for extra shot.

So many people on that side are claiming that no .22s and no shotguns were banned when they obviously were. It really makes me think that the process had virtually no review and confirmation process. Intern says "yup, I marked all the assault style weapons" and everybody just ran with that because it fit their narrative.

Cos only a handful of restricted ones had made its way up here. Wait till the NR and see. They’ll sniff it out.

I don’t think they stop at scary ones. They want to ban EVERYTHING.

Zero chance this will be approved under current legislation
