Application / Regulation advice Handgun Ban & SCC
I am seeing mixed messaging on here and wanted to get some clarification. Would the handgun freeze be lifted if CCFR wins at the Supreme Court of Canada? I thought the handgun freeze was a law now, and so that would be unaffected if the OICs were overturned?
Therefore the only way to actually acquire handguns in the future would be if a new government came in and removed the law.
Please correct me wherever necessary here

Hand gun ban is in law. Need a new government to repeal c-21.

Not just a new executive administration though. You'd need a majority in Parliament and the Senate. A majority that actually cares enough to do it.
Right, Left or Centrist, governments have a very poor track record for repealing legislation. Doubly so when the legislation in question is perceived to only affect a minority.

Yea typically if a law survives a supreme court challenge theres little reason to repeal it.

The handgun ban is in the law in C-21, not the OICs. To the best of my understanding, the CCFR Supreme Court case is about the OICs, so if they are successful, this would only be for the OIC'd firearms (stuff like the GSG-15, some M1 variants, Kel Tec SU-16, Type 81, etc.).

They didn’t take handguns away from people that owned them. They banned the transfer of handguns.

The handgun ban is never going to end. It’s law now. Only a conservative majority could repeal it and they would need a lot of political capital to make it a priority and that’s just not going to happen because they know they already have gun owners in the bag.

Why is No one talking about the police still rolling around with 9 mm ans ar 15 rifels why do thay need them if no one else can have them seems more like prison guards rather then law enforcement. Cops wouldn't have to worrie about there safety if thay weren't carrying the weight of thousands of offecer evolved deths you can't actually find the number because thay won't relece it but starting keeping track in the 2000s but it's defiantly over couple thousand while a total of about 78 rcmp have died from guns since its inception 1920 seems like we are the ones that should be carried guns for our protection from them.but is crazy to say thay shouldn't have guns now isn't this what a totalitarian goverment would do has done is doing ?

They said the same about the long gun registry. There are countries that were communist 35 years ago where you can go in and buy an ar-15 and take it out the same day today. Younger generations are more conservative and less afraid of firearms or susceptible to moral hysterics than any previous generations so I'm hopeful, even if it takes a decade we get them back and possibly more.

You would need a conservative majority most likely to repeal C21 and tbh I doubt the optics of removing a handgun ban is high on their priority list.
