Application / Regulation advice Handgun Ban & SCC

I am seeing mixed messaging on here and wanted to get some clarification. Would the handgun freeze be lifted if CCFR wins at the Supreme Court of Canada? I thought the handgun freeze was a law now, and so that would be unaffected if the OICs were overturned?

Therefore the only way to actually acquire handguns in the future would be if a new government came in and removed the law.

Please correct me wherever necessary here

You would need a conservative majority most likely to repeal C21 and tbh I doubt the optics of removing a handgun ban is high on their priority list.

Ya a full reversal would require a very popular and confident CPC government, most likely in their 2nd mandate since I suspect when the cons do eventually get backing power they will be very careful to make sure they are able to get elected again, and unfortunately making handguns legal again is they kind of hysterical nonsense the LPC will be looking for, even though a freeze should be able to thaw you would think lol?

Yea and a popular and confident CPC government isnt in sight at the moment. Its all pp and bleeding MPs to the LPC. Shit if they just stopped the attack ads for 2 minutes they would look less like a barking, shaking dog and project some confidence.

The federal conservatives have a problem, and it was on full display recently.

Alberta conservatives are the party's base. They show up to elect the leader. And PP is popular among that set. But you don't win elections by playing to your base, and in Canada, you don't win an election in the prairies.

The Conservatives need to win Ontario and Quebec (combined, like, 65% of the Canadian population). And Ontario and Quebec are very different conservatives from the prairies, and each other.

The liberals are fine, they can mash together broadly centrist ideas, take from both sides, and anything that's too far left, leave it to the NDP.

The conservatives, on the other hand, merged the Reform party with the progressive conservatives. They have the centre right and the right right (or as the prairie conservatives would say, the properly right people and the leftists in blue clothing). They're trying to win Ontario and Quebec with ideas from the prairies.

Poilievre won the leadership race in Calgary with a massive majority. But that means nothing when he has to play to Toronto and Montreal.

My guess is they'll increase the amount of exceptions. Like an overall "Sports Shooter" catagory you can file for that only requires you having a range membership and allowing more than just .22. Granted I have no idea how hard it would be to broaden the range with how the law is written.

Aren’t handguns not actually banned? Just the sale of them frozen?

I don’t recall any changes to my licence to indicate the grandfathering of them.

Couldn’t a new government just make new “acceptable” uses of handguns to circumvent c-21?
