First of all I was recently looking for a .22 in order to have fun and teach the gf the basics. I happened to take the wrong highway exit and stopped at a gun store in the area to avoid the rush hour and see what .22s they had. (Common mistake happens to us all).

Came across this "gem" Stoeger m3500 (some hunting edition) for a decent price and decided a 12ga should be added before the .22 because why not and I really want to get into turkey hunting.

Question about gun lockers. Since I believe 300$ (loose guestimate) in material would be a better locker than the cheapo canadian tire one. I am making my own until I move and go for an actual safe. I would like to add a humidity absorbing thing/gizmo to it. Is the any recommendations or ideas? It should be fairly sealed but just an extra precaution.

Did anyone recently (after handgun freeze) update their handgun registration? Like changing the calibre?

Did it work out? Did you get new caliber registration?

I have a friend whose dad has had possession of his grandparents old 22 and 12 ga for decades but the parent has not had a pal and they believe the guns are currently unregistered. Is there a proper way for my friend to takeover possession of these guns. (Sidenote the guns have sat way away in storage for literal decades and have not been fired in that time)

As I said I have been thinking about applying for my PAL but I’m not sure if it’s even worth trying or not. So about 14 years ago I made a very foolish decision, I got into a minor car crash where I rear ended someone and took off instead of remaining at the scene, I turned myself in to the police department roughly 36-48 hours later. Thankfully no one was injured and the car wasn’t totalled, it wasn’t a serious crash and I wasn’t going very fast. I was released with on promise to appear in court. I was convicted of failure to remain at the scene of an accident which resulted in a fine, a 1 year drivers license suspension, 1 year of probation, and some community service. I paid my fine and successfully completed my probation and community service without incident and have kept my nose clean since then I haven’t even had a speeding ticket. Would something like this that happened 14 years ago totally exclude me from getting my PAL or would this be up to the discretion of the RCMP/CFO? Thanks in advance if anyone has any experience with something like this that they could share with me.

Seeing a few posts about people Successfully obtaining Olympic or Target Exemptions, I'm Curious if anyone with a Workplace ATC or even a Wilderness ATC has gone through the process of obtaining a new Handgun in B.C.

I have a few people who have non-LEO ATC's for work but didn't have any Handguns before the Freeze.

So I'm looking for how they can navigate the process to obtain one. I'm assuming they will want 9mm or .40 for work training.

Would you still have to provide proof of training for Competition?

But reading the format on the website in its bullet point and location of a comma tells me that might not be required.

"If you want to acquire a handgun from any source in Canada, or through importation, you must meet one of the exemptions specified in the Firearms Act. Specifically, you must either:

*hold an authorization to carry in respect of a handgun, or for trapping and wilderness protection.

*meet the prescribed criteria and annually provide a letter to a chief firearms officer from a provincial or national sport shooting governing body indicating: (bullet points of target requirements not posted to save space)

Considering those are separated and it says Either the ATC might be just enough to not need target competition requirements.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

So I have just got my PAL and I am mostly looking at buying a bolt-action historic rifle out of interest in owning one and shooting it probably a couple times a year.

One thing that has struck me is the posts about the new Mikasi and another which has a similar vibe to it. Are those of you purchasing these mostly just eating the risk of more confusing and random bans, or is there something about these rifles that make them a more safe purchase?

I was googling if it was possible to get a 22lr M1 Clone, which I found, only to realise it had been banned as part of sweeping regulation on M1 Carbine-appearing rifles, which is about as nonsensical as it gets.

Hello everyone, I am wondering If it is legal to shoot my norinco red box ammo in crownland ( in a sand pit where firearms discharge is not prohibited). I was looking into it, and google's AI is telling me that that would be illegal because it poses a fire hazard ( because the steel core could create a spark) and that itself ( not creating the fire, but the possibility of creating a fire) it's illegal. He also mention that conservation officers carry a magnet to check your ammo??

The logic that the AI gave me reads as follows:

-Federal Classification: Norinco Red Box 7.62x39mm is 100% legal to own and possess under the Criminal Code of Canada. It is a rifle cartridge and is not classified as "prohibited armor-piercing ammunition".

-Provincial Restriction: While legal to own federally, discharging it on Crown land during wildfire season violates provincial fire prevention laws due to the physical properties of the ammunition (steel component) combined with the geology of the area (granite gravel).

-The Hazard: Firing steel-jacketed or steel-core projectiles into rocky terrain creates high-temperature mechanical sparks. Firing soft lead-and-copper bullets does not.

Idk if you have ever heard about this, or is the AI just being silly, I have tried to look it up and I guess you could look at it that way, but I would be greatful to know what you have to say.

Saw this on Google images and that got me thinking, if there is no limit on something like a belt then why aren't there more manufacturers in Canada creating belt fed semi autos?

I've been really wanting to get into long range precision shooting recently but have only been able to find a few ways to shoot over 600 meters. Either at CFB Borden up to 1k yards or MilCun up to 600m both through the Ontario Rifle Association.

I'm wondering if it might be possible to drive down to Michigan or New York or other nearby states and utilize their ranges, does anyone have experience doing this? I'm quite new to shooting and not sure what the laws are like in terms of taking firearms to and from the states.

Also, I've seen some people saying to use crown land but I don't think I'd feel comfortable shooting off range.

Would love to hear any ideas anyone has for long range shooting options in or near Ontario, I'm completely fine with driving 3+ hours.

What kind of proof do you usually sent? Is attending matches required, or is there another way to show participation? I’ve been advised to submit six months of evidence, but I mostly practice on my own.

Hey folks trying to decide between the Chiappas big badger .410 or the Chiappas little badger 22LR. Was curious if the .410 is worth it and if anyone has experience with these guns. Looking for something lighter to take with me when I go fishing. Is there any point to getting a .410 or should I find something in 20 gauge. Mainly want it for the odd bird (grouse, woodcock, maybe a duck and something to scare off a black bear. Already have a 12 gauge but find it’s pretty heavy to hike out with.

Why do antique models of firearms (m1861 springfield rifle and colt m1861 navy for example) made before 1898 qualify as 'antique', while the exact same models produced in 1899 or later qualify as non restricted and restricted firearms? Sorry if this sounds dumb, but I dont understand the logic here. I would understand if they weren't muzzleloaders, which load, shoot, and preform nearly the same as every other type (flint/wheel/match/serpentine-lock), but unlike the rest, cant be antique while being repros. why?

I recently renewed my RPAL. (took forever to get back)

I thought nothing of it when I received my licence. This is the 5th time renewing. Stuck it in my wallet and carried on with life.

Yesterday when I went to use it to aquire ammo. I realized they removed the RPAL and only renewed my PAL. I own restricted firearms.

How do I go about fixing this problem the Cheif firearms office is no help as I can't even get through to a human being.

I've been running into a lot of conflicting information lately about importing optics from the US to Canada. Some people say they've bought scopes online from US retailers with no problem, while others have had their items stopped at the border. From what I can tell, scopes in the US used to fall under ITAR but are now regulated under the Department of Commerce's EAR instead.

I'm looking at buying optics secondhand from private sellers in the US, so my main question is: under the new regulations, would they run into any issues shipping the optics up to Canada?

The two I'm after are the Bushnell Match Pro 5-30x56 and the Vortex Razor HD Gen III 6-36x56, both of which I can get for less than half of what any shop in Canada charges.

Any insight from people who've actually done this would be appreciated.

I know some airlines offer 5kg ammo checked in luggage once declared. I'm not sure if that's 5kg per bag or total per passenger.

Thing is I have a couple thousand rounds to move.

Canada Post says it's dangerous goods. Looks like UPS or Purolator only ships it via third-party.

Seema like it'll be more costly to move than to rebuy.

Just wondering others take on barle break in on .22 long rifle firearms. By that I mean the shoot once, clean, shoot twice, clean, etcetera. I wouldn't think it's that necessary with a rim fire cartridge, but I still do.

Well I'm kinda stuck here. I'm doing my application and I can't seem to figure out the 2 pieces of government identification. I have my driver's license but that's kind of it. I don't have my birth certificate and am having a hard time figuring out how to have a guarantor to get that. No passport either. Don't think they take health cards 😂. To my knowledge they won't take my outdoors card because it has an initial instead of the whole name. Any advice to help out while I sort out my birth certificate?

I know ARs are usually easily convertible from 5.56 to .300blk but would this be. I will probably buy a 5.56 because of ammo prices but it would be nice to be able to hunt deer with it too. I see 450$ .300blk barrels that would be a nice combo gun. Can someone confirm or disprove my theory please?

My question is with an active Peace Bond, even one that specifically does not prohibit me from owning weapons can the CFO still use it to deny my PAL reapplication?

Do I just call them and tell them my charges were dropped? Do you still disclose a Peace Bond if it does not prohibit you from owning weapons?

Has anyone had their license taken away? What was the process like for getting it back? Do I send a letter to the CFO once found not guilty or ask my lawyer to do it?

Full timeline :

1. Arrested in April 2025 for sexual assault (am innocent, crazy ex).
   
2. May 2025 got a revocation of PAL letter, mailed in my PAL and gave my guns to a family member.
   
3. Lawyered up got offered a few deals to make it go away said no because I’m innocent.
   
4. Was offered a Peace Bond yesterday, when offered my lawyer told the crown “he’ll never go for it because he hunts and wants his guns back” so they agreed to write a special peace bond that DOES NOT prohibit me from owning guns (they are desperate)
   
5. Lawyer says it’s up to me I’ve got a few days to decide but he’s extremely confident in our case. It’s just a matter of what I can afford at this point and if I want it all to be done or to go through the trial this summer.

If charges are dropped at pre trial in June or if we go to trial it will be in August, assuming I win what are the chances my license will be reinstated before deer season? I’ve entered the draw with fingers crossed.

Have a few non restricted and we may be moving to another province. Can a regular mover take them if they’re trigger locked or do they need to be in a locked container as well? And what do I do about some ammo that I would like to transport? Same locked container or must it be packed in a separate one?

I am moving from Quebec to Ottawa, and I wanted to know what I needed to consider regarding my firearms. I have non restricted PAL so only NR firearms.
Anyone here live or have lived in Ottawa ? Is it allowed to shoot/practice on the Crown land (with a .22)? If not what are the local clubs that are great?

I updated my address online already, and I noticed the PAL doesn’t have an address written, so I guess I will not be receiving a new PAL card.
