Moving to another province

Have a few non restricted and we may be moving to another province. Can a regular mover take them if they’re trigger locked or do they need to be in a locked container as well? And what do I do about some ammo that I would like to transport? Same locked container or must it be packed in a separate one?

As someone that used to be in warehouse maintenance I can also add that this is not just about the movers. Movers will often consolidate people's items at various warehouses, and you really have no idea who has access to those warehouses.

I had knowledge of what and where some very expensive things were, some of them merchandise from large business/companies. TVs, Pelotons, massive generators filled to the brim with copper. I also knew where the cameras were, how to turn off the cameras, the keys to every door there, all of the door codes, who comes around these buildings and at what times etc.

If I were some slimeball I could have easily sold this information. Absolutely under no circumstances should you trust a moving company with firearms, because it's not just the movers you need to worry about. I worked with some real sketchy ass dudes in that business.

Anytime ive ever moved, the guns are the only things i Move myself. I DO NOT give my guns to anybody, locked or not. And ive moved with well into double digit numbers of guns,

When I moved, I took all my firearms and put them in the trunk of my car and moved them myself; Why?? The movers did not have their RPAL, so, liability comes into play and they refused to move them as they were not licensed.

My friend moved provinces several years ago, and the movers had issues with the empty gun locker! "WE CAN'T TRANSPORT GUNS!" ...yeah, OK, the guns are not in there. It's empty. "WE CAN'T TRANSPORT GUNS!" ...yeah, got it. The locker is empty. It's just a metal box... "WE CAN'T TRANSPORT GUNS!" 🙄

For firearms a popular option is mailing it to yourself through Canada post. As for ammunition many movers will have policy against it, so best to check.

Canada post is on strike twice a year. I wouldnt do that.

This is a good second option, mailing firearms is foolproof.

If it was me, I would either bring them with me, and do all the necessary clearances or send it through black box shipping to a secure address or facility for pickup when you get there. In no world am I giving my firearms to some moving company, trigger locked or otherwise.

Never never never would I ever let anyone transport my firearms under any conditions period!!!! You transport them yourself. This is the only trustworthy way!!!

Unless this has changed, a lot of moving companies won't move firearms or ammunition. You need to move them yourself.

It'll depend on the company, the rules for my moving company were that they had to be inspected and locked up as they would normally be for transport. They didn't end up having me open the locked pelican case and they just rolled it into the truck. That was the only firearms case I was comfortable with loading into the moving truck as it's a pretty secure container.

I've moved provinces a couple of times, and everytime I keep my guns. Guns are in cases and under a dark blanket so anyone peering in can't really see anything.

And remember to update your address with the CFP!

You'll be surprised how many people forget that and then get upset that their account is flagged when trying to buy a new gun.

Take them yourself. when I was in the military living across the country, I always took them myself.

You need to have restricted firearms double locked. So either a cable lock or trigger lock on the gun and then in a case
