Application / Regulation advice New gun ( pretend to care ) and gun locker question.
First of all I was recently looking for a .22 in order to have fun and teach the gf the basics. I happened to take the wrong highway exit and stopped at a gun store in the area to avoid the rush hour and see what .22s they had. (Common mistake happens to us all).
Came across this "gem" Stoeger m3500 (some hunting edition) for a decent price and decided a 12ga should be added before the .22 because why not and I really want to get into turkey hunting.
Question about gun lockers. Since I believe 300$ (loose guestimate) in material would be a better locker than the cheapo canadian tire one. I am making my own until I move and go for an actual safe. I would like to add a humidity absorbing thing/gizmo to it. Is the any recommendations or ideas? It should be fairly sealed but just an extra precaution.

I dont want to make any assumptions about your gf, but when i introduced my gf to shooting, she had bad experiences of people handing her guns she had no idea how to shoot comfortably.
I started her out on a .22 and she loved it. She's worked her way up to 12 gauge and others and enjoys it cause she got to get comfy with easy shooters.

Gf wont shoot the 12ga, will get the .22 for her. Then if she wants we can work our way up.

You can get dummy round shaped dehumidifiers, units for the whole cabinet, I think it might be worth picking a room or closet, putting a lock on it, and getting a dehumidifier. 🥰gun room

Nice!! Shotguns are the best and 12ga is the way to go. If introducing the wife just give how lower velocity target loads (like #7.5, #8, or #9 shot) to shoot, it's really soft shooting and gets you used to firing. Plus, this is what you would use for clay sports like skeet and trap! You need to try it out, way more fun than shooting paper targets in a range.
I dont have much advice for building your own safe. I know I probably wouldn't do it just because a commercial product may be more favourably seen in a legal setting. Bit of a grey area, what's considered 'not easily broken into'. For humidity, a lot of people use goldenrods, which are ac-powered plugged in rods that sit inside your safe and create a little dry heat. I've been using one for years no problem. I also keep a silica gel container (like Wisesorb gun safe dehumidifyer on Amazon). That requires a bit more maintenance as you need to heat up the silica in an over every 3-4 months to make it work effectively.

Legally you dont even need a safe, as long as the guns have trigger locks and the ammunition is in a separate locked container. If OP uses trigger locks there should be no legal concern about building his own safe.

Guns have trigger locks or cable locks. Will be in a metal locked box in a tiny room in the basement. Overkill much but better safe than not

Off topic, but in regards to taking a new person shooting for rhe first time. I was really bothered by the noise on my first time shooting. Cheapo ear plugs. I wish I had something like my Peltor Sport Tactical 300 (less expensive options available) as I'd have likely gotten into guns a lot sooner and not missed out on getting handguns before the "freeze". Having the ability to clearly hear instructions is huge bonus.

Always good to order those reusable silica gel packs off Amazon. When the beads turn green throw the pack in a microwave for whatever the instructions say and then put back around your gun

Get a safe heater. They’re like $40 and just slightly warm the interior of your safe so humidity is always escaping. I’ve had the same cheapo unit in my gunsafe for over 15years and it still works like a charm. Best $40 I think I’ve ever spent other than those sketchy anti-diarrhea pills I bought backpacking across Cambodia…

If this is your girl friend's first time shooting. An SKS or .22 would probably be better. People might have other opinions, first rifle I have ever owned was an lee enfield sporter and sks, loved the sks instantly. .22 is easy enough to learn, and handle.
