Application / Regulation advice ATC Exemption process?

Seeing a few posts about people Successfully obtaining Olympic or Target Exemptions, I'm Curious if anyone with a Workplace ATC or even a Wilderness ATC has gone through the process of obtaining a new Handgun in B.C.

I have a few people who have non-LEO ATC's for work but didn't have any Handguns before the Freeze.

So I'm looking for how they can navigate the process to obtain one. I'm assuming they will want 9mm or .40 for work training.

Would you still have to provide proof of training for Competition?

But reading the format on the website in its bullet point and location of a comma tells me that might not be required.

"If you want to acquire a handgun from any source in Canada, or through importation, you must meet one of the exemptions specified in the Firearms Act. Specifically, you must either:

*hold an authorization to carry in respect of a handgun, or for trapping and wilderness protection.

*meet the prescribed criteria and annually provide a letter to a chief firearms officer from a provincial or national sport shooting governing body indicating: (bullet points of target requirements not posted to save space)

Considering those are separated and it says Either the ATC might be just enough to not need target competition requirements.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Olympic shooter training/competition is only one of the exemptions, not the only exemption. If you’re a trapper you can get a handgun for that purpose too.

"I hunt to feed myself and my family in grizzly country, can I please have a revolver so I dont get mauled?" Gov: "fuck no you potential mass killer" me: "I take rich Chinese tourists on guided hunts in grizly country, can I have a handgun to satisfy my insurance requirements" Gov: "Of course!"

Not a serious country.

I love it when people tell me to “just use bear spray!” When I live in a place where the wind regularly picks up to 30k and hour completely without warning

Work ATC is for firearms owned by employer. It changes nothing for buying your private guns.

Yes, and if you work for a company they are the ones that own the firearms and you are just using them.

What is not true about my statement?

There were 2 types of ATCs: work and wilderness. On ATC application those 2 were separate reasons.

Im talking about work. If you work for yourself, you better have a registered entity that you work for, while being an owner and that is a legal registree of firearms.

The section you mentioned deals with wilderness ATC, or so it looks.

I guess at this point you realized you are wrong but just cant admit it. No problem. I dont care for your admission.

The exemption differentiates between Businesses and Individuals.

And seems to imply as an individual with an ATC you qualify to acquire outside the business purchase.

It's not very clear. But that is a important consideration you raise so I will dig deeperm. Thank you.

You are confusing ATC with Transfer. Both are separate.

For work purposes, your employer is the one who transfers to themselves. ATC allows you to carry "work" guns, nothing more.

Good luck.

Could you just register a business?

Sure but are you also going to be in cash handling business to justify getting a firearms licence for business?

That’s actually an interesting idea. Purchase an ATM and put it in a friends business or whatever, and register another business that delivers the cash to it.

Nah like a trapping company or hunting guide company.
