Application / Regulation advice Moving from Quebec to Ottawa(What do I need to consider?)
Hey Y’all,
Hope you are having a great day and a wonderful summer!
I am moving from Quebec to Ottawa, and I wanted to know what I needed to consider regarding my firearms. I have non restricted PAL so only NR firearms.
Anyone here live or have lived in Ottawa ? Is it allowed to shoot/practice on the Crown land (with a .22)? If not what are the local clubs that are great?
I updated my address online already, and I noticed the PAL doesn’t have an address written, so I guess I will not be receiving a new PAL card.

Look up the Ottawa discharge bylaws if you like. most of the greater Ottawa area is a no discharge area.
Local ranges of the to of my head:
Stitsville
Esoc
Ra center
I hear some people go to calabogie to shoot on crown land but I've never done that.

Crownland is much harder to find in Ottawa without a pretty chunky drive and it's typically not worth it imo
We have 3 ranges of note.
Stittsville is an outdoor range with several distances (they reach out to 300y which is nice). It's also open to the public on weekends for 20 bucks an hour. Some people greatly dislike the public but personally I haven't had a bad experience. They also have a great setup for shotguns/clays (pay per round I believe). Members can shoot during the weekday. I believe it's 12pm to 5pm on the weekend, you can book online which is the recommended way to go.
EOSC is on the opposite end of the city, they're private but a friend who is a club member can take you, they have a wait list for members and they have pretty nice shooting setups too. I don't go there often enough due to my location so others will know more.
RA centre is your indoor option. Not public and it's limited size wise plus you're at the mercy of their scheduling which I wasn't a fan of (plus you'll need to do the orientation too).

Call the CFO to be 100% sure of what you need to do. As well as asking questions about what you need to do in regards of the SIAF

Theres actually some differences in gun laws between QC and the other provinces no?

Quebec requires everything to be registered for one.
And they have stupid hand gun requirements based on law 9? I think.

I did this move last automn, brought all my pistols and new-prohibs after doing the transport request on the RCMP firearms website, didn't get any news about transport approval for any of the new-prohibs but I was moving so they also went to my new address of residence. I had pre-planned my range membership, since there is no Law 9, most ranges require a 4-ish hours training session to make sure you inow how everything works before you get you get onboarded. I picked EOSC because it's pretty laid back, convenient, I can go anytime I want throughout the day and it's almost never super busy.
I think I had one or two registered firearms out of my all my NRs but the SIAF is such a nothingburger scheme that I didn't even bother to call them to be honest. My opinion not legal advice on that last one.

Stittsville is awesome, allows you to do drop ins without a membership, but if you attend regularly it’s probably worth it to get one. Crown land is accessible if you’re fine to drive a bit, I think the closest spots are like 2 hours away. Unfortunately you cannot even legally shoot a bow in Ottawa much less a gun.

I shoot out of Cornwall and their is a bunch of guys from Ottawa that like to shoot out their it's a drive but they like it

Last move I updated my information online and that was it.
My understanding (and you should fully research this yourself) is that if you have non-restricted firearms on the Quebec registry, you can de-register them when you move. Any firearm I have purchased in Quebec has been de-registered by the seller.
There is limited crown land, some of which is general use, but a couple ranges around. Stittsville has been nice the couple times I’ve been. There’s also the EOSC in Limoges (haven’t been but heard good things).
