You missed the old days where people would stuff 15 rounds of 223 in a 50 Beowulf magazine.

RCMP: You can fit more cartridges in a magazine if it's designed for a different calibre than what you're loading into it.

Based bros: Okay, I'm gonna fill up a 5 round, 50 Beowuf Magazine with as many 223. Rounds as I can. (Fits 15).

RCMP: >:(. "Okay, now we're telling you that you'll have to pin 50 Beowulf magazines to 2 rounds, otherwise we'll consider them "dual-use" and charge you with possession of a prohibited device".

How do we make people smarter😂 education isn’t doing its part. Why was an AK banned and a type 81 wasn’t. Why is the SKS not banned if guns are the problem and not people? Why are guns even getting banned in the first place? All Ak platforms banned? Then you ban pistols the most common gun for a criminal to have but they are one of the only “registered” guns(I know SBR and shit but you know what I mean) there’s so much contradiction and fake nonsense it’s hard to even buy into the laws. I have been safely shooting this with no problem for years and suddenly we are criminals because they can’t tighten shit up on their end.

16

u/yummybunnybear 17d ago

well, when we say "why isn't the Type 81 banned if the AK is" and "why aren't handguns banned if they're the guns most used by criminals", the antigunners' response isn't "good point. We're dumb aren't we?" Instead they respond with "good point. We'll ban them all".

2

u/CenturionV 5d ago

"knives kill tons of people why aren't you banning them too?!!" Oh don't worry sir, the progressives are coming for those too, just give them a minute.

Then you end up like the UK where you once not to long ago could own handguns and semi-auto rifles and now go to jail for carrying a swiss army knife with a lock on the blade.

1

u/yummybunnybear 5d ago

I really do think that "progressive" morality is based on a worldview that sees evil as something that the environment creates rather than something that springs up in the human heart (whether you put the blame on "sin" or "biological instinct" or whatever). So progressives believe that if you neuter the environment (i.e. remove all guns), people will somehow stop being evil. But unfortunately people will find whatever way to carry out whatever their hearts desire. We gotta address the heart, man.

2

u/ooTurtle1999 15d ago

Just get an AR mag compatible rifle. You can legally get 10 rounders :)

3

u/Aether_rite 14d ago

im pretty sure if we ditch the 5 round limitation then alot of guns won't be as prestigious and a mass price cut will occur. u know u want it, i know u want it, and u know that i know that u know u want it ;D!

1

u/Impossible-King-435 13d ago

Eh, I can live with it. Handgun freeze is the lamest thing. I have a couple SKSs and 4 pinned magazines. If shit ever hits the fan (or my family is in immediate danger) I'll remove the fucking pins.

https://ipscbc.com/ipsc-canada-has-applied-to-intervene-on-the-supreme-court-of-canada-challenge-against-the-gun-grab/

Today, IPSC Canada filed a motion with the Supreme Court of Canada seeking intervener status in the challenge to the Order in Council brought before the Court by the Canadian Coalition for Firearms Rights (CCFR).
We believe we bring an important human perspective to the case by demonstrating that the firearms the Government of Canada labelled as “Military Assault Weapons” were, in fact, used for legitimate sporting purposes. These firearms have been used lawfully in our sport by thousands of competitors across Canada. This decision has had a significant impact on our members, and we intend to explain that impact.
We believe it is important to participate in this case because we are not only IPSC competitors, but also firearm owners. The government’s firearms policies have adversely affected firearm owners across Canada, and we believe it is important for our community to stand together.

19

u/thecoolernameistaken 14d ago

I just care less and less man. We can have everyone on our side it’ll just piss me off more when SC gives us a bullshit ruling

10

u/RydNightwish 14d ago

100%. Best Im begging for is to not have the threat of politically motivated imprisonment hanging over my head anymore. If it creates an opening to legally sell everything to other PAL holders, then thats gonna be my ultimate out.

8

u/Natural_Comparison21 14d ago

Would be pretty fun for the SCC to say “Oh yea you can ban guns. However you MUST give proper compensation. As in 100% value for EVERYTHING. If you don’t? Then you must allow for grandfathering.” Now would the government follow that ruling? Probably not. But it would be rather amusing to see them backtrack and defend the idea of grandfathering. Not saying grandfathering is a good thing but would be funny.

5

u/RydNightwish 14d ago

Sad as it is, I could swallow my pride for either or. All my prohibs equal half a years salary before inflation that I could really use back. At least grandfathering means I could maybe sell to other PAL holders and try to salvage my dreams.

3

u/Natural_Comparison21 14d ago

I can neither confirm nor deny if I am impacted. However at this point in the game I would be willing to accept either if I was in the position. However if I am in that position I would most likely go the deactivation route out of pure spite and a reminder for me what the government is capable of. Which this is just the tip of the iceberg.

13

u/Natural_Comparison21 14d ago

They should argue it as cruel and unusual punishment by the government ngl.

He’s going to be surrounded by a private armed militia when the hunger riots him and his ilk created begin. I’m not giving him shit

13

u/DoYouGetSarcasm 16d ago

He's so rich and powerful he can have armed guards everywhere he goes. He lives in a world of special exemptions and just doesn't care for guns.

It would be like gifting me with super hero memorabilia, i wouldn't care for it beyond the monetary value. Carney is rich enough that a gun doesn't have any meaningful value to him, so he gets rid of it.

10

"Canadians dont have the right to protect themselves with a firearm"

-Justin Trudeau

Well, I guess that doesn't include liberal MP's and marc Carney

7

u/Natural_Comparison21 15d ago

Or money. Because I guess Brinks Trucks deserve more protection then we the people do.

7

u/Otherwise_Rub_9515 15d ago

Yep, a small bag of cash gets protected with a gun... But not a law abiding, rcmp vetted citizen.

-Liberals

5

u/Natural_Comparison21 15d ago

I saw a post once on this one Canadian server asking why money gets more rights then people? It got downvoted heavily and largely it was “But but carrying the money makes you at greater risk!” It was the dumbest arguments I have quite frankly ever heard.

5

u/Otherwise_Rub_9515 15d ago

I'm sure brinks cares about the drivers well being and not the cash on hand or job they're hired to do....right??

MP's should not be allowed armed security, to live in gated communities and their kids should not be allowed to attend private school...

Imagine the policies we would see.

Absolute insanity.

3

u/Natural_Comparison21 15d ago

Have you considered the value of us feeling like we are morally superior to them? Sure our material living standards are declining every year, but Christ, I mean Carney is holding our elbows up!

26

u/rastamasta45 9d ago

The SCC case will be such a fascinating test of democracy and freedom. You have multiple special interest groups and 3 attorney generals from massive provinces. 1 one of which is in a sovereignty crisis in the making. All of which are stating how these bans are completely eroding our freedom

The LPC on the other hand have produced zero evidence saying the bans will make us safer and only push it for vibes and most likely authoritarian rule.

Now it all rests on the judges….🍿

20

u/GinnAdvent 9d ago

It's much easier to play that clip from chief of TPS with Elizabeth Chow standing behind him making a statement of what everyone has been saying for years.

Most guns used in crime are illegally obtain, and most of them are not from legal firearm owners.

That being said, if the government can just do whatever they want with OICs, it would have serious consequences in land where democracy supposingly exist.

15

u/FunkyFrunkle 9d ago

The most frustrating thing is it doesn’t stop people from referencing that bullshit, disingenuous article that tried to imply that most crime guns are legal guns. People obviously didn’t read it, because they fucked around with the statistics and only briefly mentioned that it was fundamentally a percent of a percent.

“Crime guns are legal guns, right?”

“I have 500 articles that say they aren’t, and one article that says they are.”

Grabs the one article.

“I thought so.”

I love that police officer for taking that question from that reporter and setting the record straight, but that needs to be spread far and wide.

4

u/GinnAdvent 9d ago

That's why we need law enforcement to repeat the fact over and over again. It's all about countering that mis informative.

It's also doesn't take that much to figure out that most guns used by criminals were illegal to begin with. So you can only brainwash them so much. Well, at least people I talked to figured it out eventually.

10

u/Reasonable_Hall2346 9d ago

You know what would drastically improve public safety? A ban or license requirement on these freaking e-scooters. That would have more impact than the useless OICs.

9

u/GinnAdvent 9d ago

One person in Vancouver passed away recently because a helmet wasn't worn while using the e scooter and cause the rider to hit the head when a crash happened.

That being said, I said similar thing with cyclist as well.

If drivers need to wear seatbelt, why would cyclist and scooter riding not wearing protective gear as well.

7

u/Azules023 9d ago

They are required. It’s just not something you would ever see the VPD enforce.

https://montrealgazette.com/opinion/op-eds/opinion-a-known-gap-in-canadas-gun-laws-is-costing-lives/

This is one of the smaller yaps from the anti gun lobby. Especially a lead figure head. For those who don't want to read the news article I will put down the points.

  • The heading is of course talking about the 'sks loophole' and how it's costing lives somehow. Despite the fact that if you were to take the number of people to die from a SKS rifle in Canada throughout it's entire history in this country I would be willing to bet dollars to donuts that illegal handguns kill more people in just about any year in the 2020s. But enough from me.

  • Mentions how the shooter had a PAL which seems more to be a failure of the licensing system then the firearm itself.

  • Oh she straight up doesn't bring up the fact a cop killed somebody who wasn't the shooter because I guess when a cop kills someone it's not important.

  • She quotes a poly article for her evidence of multiple instances. Which the article literally has to go all the way back to 2014 to pull from examples. In otherwords? Like one instance per year. Which is comically low considering how many times a shooting happens with a illegal handgun in a year. One of those cases it was just suspected as well. They also bring up some shit about criminal investigations and how in one city in Canada it was the most seized rifle or some shit... Which is like "Yea no shit sherlock it's one of the most popular firearms in Canada. What next? You find a lot of Ruger 10/22s? Lot of old Cooeys in old cottages?" Oh and the number seized? Less then 100... Yea.

  • Brings up how smuggling is a valid concern but what about domestic sourced firearms? Proceeds to quote the RCMP and doesn't even give a percentage from that article just say's and I quote "suggest a significant share of crime guns are domestically sourced" That's it then she moves onto a different topic.

  • Proceeds to quote New Zealand and Australia like they are somehow W policy's or success stories (they aren't compliance was horrible in both countries.)

  • Had to add this quote for the laughs. "As an added insult to Canadian taxpayers, owners who surrender their prohibited firearm for compensation under the current buyback program can use that money to purchase a new assault weapon, the SKS, thereby injecting public money directly into the coffers of assault weapon manufacturers." Lmao. Who's making SKS's anymore? The people who make Chaisis? That I got a laugh out of.

  • Brings up the most recent shooting which the shooter only killed one person in (not saying that's bad but like she's making it out to be this Nova Scotia level shooting and 1/3rd of the deaths came from the cops 2/3rds if you count the death of the shooter.)

  • Her conclusion is utterly hilarious as she refuses to say the quiet part out loud. Sorry but it's literally the most popular semi auto centre fire firearm in Canada. I would say it's the single most popular firearm in Canada period but considering how many Ruger 10/22s and other surplus that exists that do be debatable.

Tldr? Lot of anti gunner slopper about fear mongering around the SKS and calling for a ban or in the mean time a 'freeze' on the sales.

8

u/rastamasta45 13d ago

Love your deep dive and analysis, read the whole article and all I can do is this 🤦🏽

Like fuck off already Heidi, seriously fuck off, meanwhile Toronto just had 2 massive shootings….wonder what those thugs used huh

7

u/Natural_Comparison21 13d ago

She can’t help herself. You can very very clearly see that she is panicking. She is getting older and is upset she might not be around long enough to get to her so called ‘promised’ land. Like she’s not that old but she is getting up there in age. Keep in mind she would have started this in her 20s and having 30 years go by with very little to show for it in her mind is not great.

8

u/GinnAdvent 13d ago

I recently saw the video done by SoapGunBox, and he mentioned the following.

What they are trying to do is to set up a narrative so it really reinforced the idea that gun is bad and the SKS is forefront of that.

I think SGB even pointed out that Liberal don't want to do anything meaningful to reduce the gun crime and in fact use it to loosen the rules since 2016 for criminals that can use whatever in their arsenal, meaning the firearm, to engage in various criminal activities. So they brew up more excuse saying gun is bad in our community.

This way, they can use the term firearms over and over again to shift the blame on to the firearm owners to the regular population that gun is bad. Any sort of potential gun violence that spawn several red flags are either not enforced, or can be used as source materials when things blow up again such as Sannich shooting and other things that involved a semi rifle.

There are other reports that's done by other people with citations and studies show that legal firearms owners aren't majority of the firearm issues in Canada. Of course, those were largely ignored. You simply can't talk sense with those that run things with emotions, especially those that like to use big words and shout loudly to solidify a hugely biased opinion.

7

u/Natural_Comparison21 13d ago

I find it funny when people say the pro gun side in Canada is like completely out to lunch and impossible to talk to and the examples they use are like online discourse... Yea nobody online is going to be all that civil. It's rare it's not the norm. That is just how it is with internet behavior. However every time I have seen a interaction irl happen the pro gun side is always the more calm and collected one with stats to back themselves up. The anti gun lobby on the other hand? Yea they got a history of freaking out irl at press conferences. Personally the two meaningful anti gun interactions I have had irl have been with sadly the most stereotypical people you would think of as anti gun by the stats. One older woman and a middle aged woman. The older woman being my grand mother and the middle aged woman being my mother. Now funnily enough it turned out my grand mother was just having a bad day and eventually realized she was being unreasonable in her beliefs. That while bad things do in fact happen with guns the vast majority of bad things that happen with guns are not from licensed gun owners. My mother on the other hand? Yea no such luck. It was actually kind of a miracle of just sheer persistence and having to argue from the emotional side of things to win her over to even have guns in the house (despite my father having no objection to it.) I tried using the stats with her, I tried using reasoning and understanding. Yet nothing budged apart from the emotional argument. It killed me inside that I had to resort to it. I didn't want to but it was the only way she could see where I was coming from. To this day I have still tried to convince her to atleast try shooting one time. Even if it's just shooting a crossbow. Nothing. She told me if America invades she would be willing to learn but I straight up told her in her hypothetical that it would be to late. You need to have some base line training BEFORE something happens not during. It would be like saying "I will learn how to put out a fire when a fire starts." That's a horrible time to learn how to put out a fire. Yet she's just so stuck in her ways it's wild.

21

u/LordRaizer 12d ago

Well, at least Toronto's mayor had a moment of sobriety and rightfully called out illegal firearms crossing the border rather than blame PAL owners for the nth time

16

u/Think_Lengthiness686 10d ago

“Not true, jails are full”
This has to be the most pathetic excuse known to mankind.

14

u/Natural_Comparison21 9d ago

Yea there full… Because they kept increasing the population and refused to built any new prisons as doing that is often seen as very unpopular until crime gets so bad it’s seen as necessary. But they don’t want to actually fix the root causes issues of why people turn to crime in the first place. Because that’s hard. Easier to do the worst thing possible and blame PAL holders who are a comically safe demographic.

8

u/FunkyFrunkle 9d ago edited 9d ago

You said it.

Building prisons is not a popular use of tax dollars as far as the general public is concerned, and nobody wants one built anywhere near them.

However, people need to realize that this issue is a huge reason as to why violent offenders are arrested and the legal system tries everything it can to get them out again. We’re full.

Legal systems, healthcare systems and institutions are strained to their limit. All of this money being spent to ban guns should have been spent on any one of these things but no, my kingdom for a gun ban.

This is also one of the reasons why the bans are largely unenforceable. We can’t even keep up with the regular criminals, let alone trying to push hundreds of thousands of people through the court system.

This is why I think the Attorney Generals from three provinces got involved. The provinces will absorb all of the judicial wreckage precipitated from this policy while Ottawa is off in dreamland.

One of the biggest complaints about this policy aside from our personal grievances is that it was very poorly planned out and it shows. They wrote cheques that reality can’t cash.

This is what happens when you recruit the support of fringe special interest groups comprised solely of activists. Then you wonder why everything seems to be going to shit.

7

u/Natural_Comparison21 9d ago

Honestly Poly gives activists in general a bad name. You know who is a good activist? The guy who founded the one by one movement. As he understands the situation on the ground by talking to at risk youths and tried to figure out a solution to the situation. Other anti gun violence (not anti gun those are two different things.) Know that in Canadas case our domestic gun issue is not as big a problem as we let on. It exists but it’s very very small in the grand scheme of things and largely impacts rural areas more. For urban areas the focus should be on smuggled guns from the states. It’s has been shown consistently that most handguns seized in crime in Toronto Canadas number one biggest city is like 80-95% from the states. If that’s the case then focusing on anything else is pretty insane and a very poor use of management resources. Poly is out to lunch thinking we can do it all. We can’t. This ain’t Star Trek earth we are not post scarcity. We have finite resources and limits in our system.

60

u/rastamasta45 18d ago

On a political note, it’s legitimately wild how bad Conservative Party derangement symptom is in this county. Now the report came out that LPC want to track down and sue people for “misinformation” and all you see is

“Well the CPC will do worse” and my favorite “the CPC will use this to make trans people disappear, watch them go away”

…..the LPC enacted this, they’re pushing this and they’re wanting this done. Like we’re actually at the point of Canadians electing full on authoritarian fascists and voters proudly proclaiming “nuh uh, pp is worse” while fully losing their freedoms.

We’re actually entering a death spiral with these voters…..Alberta needs to separate and I’m from Ontario lol!

30

u/Lumindan 18d ago

Credit where it's due, it's an absolute masterstroke in media manipulation and perception management by the Liberals.

They've convinced their base (and others) that the opposition is always the bad guy which justifies all their bad behavior.

Like, look at any of those threads and filter people who go "what about PP" or "the cons would do it". It's easier to blame a hypothetical boogeyman than to address the real problem, they voted these people in.

Like the whole misinformation thing is crazy because who decides the misinformation? We know as gun owners that the government has zero issues spreading literal lies on their stuff including randomly reclassifying stuff and using their choice of description (assault style lol).

Hell remember when being gay meant you were unfit to be in the military and the government had a whole thing about spreading sickness and moral panic. They buried that really nicely though.

Anyone who voted for the liberals at this point absolutely must know what they're doing or choosing to be ignorant. It can't be just vibes and trump bad die for a decade+.

This is the truth about team voters. They can't see their own team as having faults so the other team is instantly worse. The reality is all of the of political parties suck, are corrupt and advantage rich people over normal people but at least the conservatives let you keep your guns.

I would also take reddit and redditor opinions with a grain of salt as it pretty far left.

Yeah, but that's the thing isn't it?

Yes, the average Canadian is a centrist who dabbles in center-right and center-left politics when it suits them. Once-in-a-lifetime they will dabble in right or left politics, but they don't like that much.

Boomers on the otherhand, hold influence in politics. Remember that Boomers in Canada hold over 50% of household wealth. That's a huge chunk of money, and more importantly, a huge chunk of money politicians will take notice of. Hence, political influence. Furthermore, both the CPC and NDP bang on about housing and housing reforms, public transport, infrastructure, etc. These policies terrify Bommers because they'll take a financial hit. They know their investments and wealth are safe with the LPC.

Money talks.

As for younger folks voting LPC, the NDP aren't really a legit party anymore, and the Greens are ineffectual. If you are a voter, and you aren't a conservative, you are going to vote LPC, because your other options are not worth it.

19

u/WeightedDips95 18d ago

Can we criticize the Liberals who have been in power for 11 years without both sidesing?

CPC is infinitely better for a multitude of reasons not the least of which is guns, which is also a litmus test or an indicator of how much a government respects its citizens.

16

u/campclownhonkler 18d ago

I hate the liberals but I'm under no illusions that the conservatives will fix the real issues Canada has but I would vote for them in a second for the reasons of this sub alone.

I wrote to the DCRA asking if they plan on being intervenors at all in the CCFR court case. I think all you guys should too. Maybe get them motivated. They were the reason the AR15 wasn’t banned outright in the 90s. You’d think they’d have been all over this. Seems like we haven’t heard a peep from them

office@dcra.ca

Edit: nevermind, Tracey Wilson says the window to apply for intervenor status closed yesterday 👎🏻

CSSA has applied as intervenors for the case. Not exactly sure what they can bring to the table, but more the merrier

Something something I miss guns something boomers bad something something no hope and despair for me

Guys my heart isnt in it anymore, not just the fight for guns but for anything. Its just come to my realization today that ive downgraded my life expectations from having my partner, working a good job and owning a house(and lots of guns), to just good job and house ownership (and some guns) to good job (and guns) to now all I want to do is be able to go to one grocery store and pick up all my regular foods and  ingredients without needing to calculate and evaluate everything making sure im being optimized with my money and make it to the end of the month, feel like im playing a fucking paradox game with the amount of bullshit balancing and micromanaging i need to do.

I went from having dreams and aspirations for the future to "current objective: survive". Which is currently failing.

I fucking hate anyone and everyone who tries to pretend this current situation is good, or even worse actually believes it.

22

u/Natural_Comparison21 17d ago

Our society is collapsing in real time and people wonder why I am cynical and a prepper. Maybe y’all should have left a better world for the Gen Zers boomers.

22

u/IAMURBUNKLE 17d ago

The way the media praises the Liberals for their abysmal record is truly something out of a science fiction novel. They’ve even successfully made it mainstream to criticize people that call out the madness of the current state of affairs.

Millions of Canadians are having their heads pushed below water and those same groups are being told everything is fine, this isn’t anyone’s fault - and they’re believing it. It’s truly a masterclass on deflecting all blame, even these Ontario government ads about how they’re making Ontario safer are insane - propaganda paid for by our corrupt government. Sad state of affairs, we had a chance for change last April and we blew it. The worst is yet to come.

But he's a mater economist! But the degrees! Dear leader will be our salvation!

The guy is literally just as incompetent as Trudeau. People went on and on about his Davos speech, that I guarantee he didn't even write himself.

I actually sort of want Trump to bail on USMCA right now, so we can just skip the managed decline and just rock bottom out and get it over with.

Its funny how our media has just totally ignored the US saying they dont want to renew, and Liberals going "but we still have 10 years, who cares", sure, we have 10 years, but new production facilities take years to setup. Why would say Honda, or GM, even risk expanding production in this country? Why would ANY foreign money pick Canada when you could go to the US, have a larger market, lower taxes, fast approvals, and lower regulation? And no weird forced race based partnerships either.

This country is literally doing EVERYTHING it can to be as unattractive as possible to investment.

10

u/IAMURBUNKLE 17d ago

I couldn’t agree more. The brain drain is just a flashy headline now, wait 10 years after all our best and brightest head to the US, who will pay the interest on Carneys 100B annual deficits?

Or wait until the bond market figures out Canada has no hope of ever digging ourselves out of the hole Liberals dug for us, it won’t happen overnight but when it does it’ll be too late to do anything.

The problems we are seeing now are just the beginning, I’ve already seen headlines saying emergency room wait times can be up to 48 hours now for non life threatening injuries, this is the Liberal utopia more than half the country wanted.

20

u/LordRaizer 17d ago

I agree, people saying that "things are going to get better" or that "things aren't that bad" are coping hard

Maybe I'm too doomerpilled, but that naive optimism is nauseating

9

u/RydNightwish 17d ago edited 17d ago

I feel this so much. Im currently starting my last effort for what little can maybe be salvaged of my dreams but frankly, I don't have hope. Im not just talking guns or political parties but qol, col, happiness etc.

Haven't been out shooting in 8 months and frankly, no desire to change that. SCC win or not, just dont have the passion to do it anymore. Too many negative feelings from the years gone by and dismal future coming that I get no joy from it at all. Probably gonna sell what might be allowed to be sold after the SCC and go from there.

But thats just me. Frankly dunno why I still follow this sub anymore cus its rarely any good news. I did my bit, held out against the buy back and bans for 7 years. Watched my prospects for anything wither up. Im so so tired boss.

5

u/Mrdingus6969 16d ago

It really the amalgamation of the things you said is why I lost a lot of motivation. It is seeing the clear objectivity of the decline of this country and then having to deal with everyone's cognitive dissonance towards it.

6

u/Brapika 17d ago

The biggest battles are the ones you face against yourself.

Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I mean this isn't a new rifle it's a couple years old now and the only diff between the us and Canada model is the barrel length

6

u/HappyCan7250 12d ago

I see no reason to stay away, both rifles have been out for years in the US and have shown to be reliable and well made. My family member in the US was looking at buying a Carmel last year in the US. He was pretty surprised to hear when I told him they're coming into Canada now too. Makasi has pretty good reviews on US sites.

Ex-Canadian MP Inky Mark has been arrested after police found a trove of guns, ammunition and an antique cannon along with thousands of dollars in cash in his home.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) seized 439 firearms from his house near Dauphin, Manitoba, last week during a firearms trafficking probe. At least three of the guns were illegally trafficked, RCMP said.
Mark, 78, has been charged with firearms trafficking and several other gun-related offences, including possessing unauthorised devices and unsafe storage, which officials say threaten public safety.

u/Unknownuser010203 17d ago

Imagine a world where the sks is banned, but the mk15 hits the market a few months later (i know both will most likely be banned at one point or another). Adding the sks to the ban will be the final nail in the coffin with all the fuds and natives joining the cause (giving natives special status will pass a ton of people off big time).

7

u/Natural_Comparison21 17d ago

Also it would create even more tension of “So these guns are so dangerous but a entire groups of people can have them why?”

4

u/Unknownuser010203 17d ago

Another excellent point. I think there smart enough to realize banning the sks gives them more problems than wins

That's the only thing they could do really. Even trying to track them all down the register them sounds like hell

1

u/Natural_Comparison21 15d ago

You would have to register to have a effective grandfather system or the amount of people just handing over there sks to somebody else who could have gotten it in the time period would be a non negligible number. Like if I was the government I would avoid the sks for as long as humanly possibly. So much so I would literally ban more random .22 lrs then the sks. That’s how much the sks is in terms of not wanting to touch it.

3

More likely to do the fact that they probably receive only 30 minutes of carbine training every year, so they're pretty ignorant in making the appropriate adjustments so that way they can shoulder it properly, if they need to use their carbine.

Yeah appears to be at a street festival.

5

u/WeightedDips95 12d ago

This has been a feature of life in Toronto for some years now under the Liberals.

A few years ago there was one day light shooting. These animals saw each other on the street and literally couldn’t help themselves but start shooting at each other with zero regard for the fact there was a little girl and her mom between them. I’m sure they’ve already been released from prison, reoffended, been re-released 20 times since then.

But you know, it’s tax paying men that look like me who are the cause of all the issues.

It's a Latin street festival. Toronto sub says gang shootings are a regular occurrence

17

🤷🏻‍♂️. This country doesn’t want to go after the actual problems, so, fuck em. Let people keep getting shot

13

u/Mrdingus6969 13d ago

Yup, the existence of such crimes are always a byproduct of failing socio-economic factors. I could get into what is causing it but that is quite a long story.

But most importantly will the government focus on the root causes? HELL NO

9

u/InitialAd4125 13d ago

Hell it's not even that difficult to look at the geni index is almost a one to one when it comes to crime last I checked but somehow they'll claim it's the number of guns. But if that was the case why is the nation with the most gun crime per capita Jamacia last I checked a nation that has far from the most guns per capita.

"all paths lead to rome" no matter what the courts say or the government says, the only way to get your rights back is non compliance of the highest degree. shooting your prohibiteds at the range, selling them to other licensed individuals, being safe but also free, you cannot rely on courts or government to give you your freedoms.

6

u/Brapika 8d ago

Have we had an update on confiscation numbers recently? Seems like news has been awfully quiet, guessing it's because it doesn't make them look good.

6

u/Lumindan 8d ago

I suspect we'll never get full figures

4

u/rastamasta45 8d ago

Or we will and they will spin is as a monumental success and claim Canada is officially safer while ignoring the nightly gang shootings and home invasions

3

u/Agonizing-Stroke1812 8d ago

They just started collection in ontario fwiw

2

u/rastamasta45 8d ago

Where did you get this update? I’m curious where in Ontario they started and with what police force?

-8

u/Agonizing-Stroke1812 7d ago edited 7d ago

I got the update because they delivered the collection boxes to my door. I know that I will get flamed for turning them in but it was a logical decision for my situation. If anyone would like to dispute this, they are welcome to send me several tens of thousands of dollars and I'll gladly withdraw. It's quite sad for me since a few of them are unfired (delivered on tues. banned on thurs.), and my dream gun which I invested a lot in will be destroyed.

There is a lot of chest thumping in this sub but the reality is, a lot of guys with 20, 30+ restricted are not going to take the loss. There are some hardliners for sure but the more you have, the more compelling it becomes to turn them in

You put the guns in boxes that they ship to you via Canada Post then drive to a local RCMP office (did not know we had these in the GTA) and turn it in

→ More replies (26)

My career will take me to Canada soon. Do you guys know how bad is the waiting time to get a PAL if you're a foreigner? I'll try doing the courses and tests all as soon as I'm able to.

13

u/Eglitarian 19d ago

From my understanding part of your background check will involve the RCMP contacting the government you’re a citizen of and it will depend on their stance on your ownership of firearms as well.

Chinese citizens (even if PRs in Canada) for example have a difficult time because of this.

6

u/SurtseyHuginn 19d ago

I can confirm because that's what I went through 7 years ago. Gotta get some background check from your country of origins. Also you if the referal you provide are not using canadian phone numbers, it's likely that they will have to call the rcmp instead of the opposite.

3

u/StalkerRigo 19d ago

thank you both, guess its a matter of waiting then

4

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears 19d ago edited 19d ago

Should be the same realistically for a newcomer as a citizen. You’re mainly just limited by 28 day mandatory wait time for the PAL processing with the RCMP

ETA: I was NOT aware of differences in wait times depending on what country you’re from, so take my comment with a grain of salt

1

u/StalkerRigo 19d ago

u/StalkerRigo 18d ago

oof, better find a hobby to past the time then...

3

u/98-civic-si 18d ago

To be fair im a citizen and it still took something like 9 months. Me my brother and father all went at the same time, my brother got his a month or two before me, i got mine around 9 months after submitting it, and my father something around 3 months after. Getting your pal takes some time in canada

6

u/gamercast1337 18d ago

Sorry to hear youll be coming to canada. At least your career sounds like it would pay decently well so you may be able to avoid the permanent depression fhat accompanies being the underclass that is unable to afford anything and yet still expected to participate in society.

Dont have any knowledge for the wait time for a foreigner but id imagine the same if not longer than a citizen. For me and most people I knew it was like 6 months to a year. This was during covid and we only slightly harassed the firearms team to speed it up ao use that info however you want.

I do however recommend getting an SKS, a shotgun (maverick 88 if budget, something like a 590 if you got deep pockets) and a 22 once you got your license. Thats essentially the trifecta of a leaf gun owners collection now lmao. Good luck sir.

4

u/StalkerRigo 18d ago

Thank you! I am privileged in how my career turned out, and I know it. Canada will be better than Brazil for an engineer, but I feel when people complain about the economy. We here lived forever in what you call a crisis, and it sucks. I see everyday the social consequences and its not pretty. I hope to see Canada overcome that. I really want to move and stay, not hop from country to country.

And you can bet, the moment I get my PAL, tons of shotguns, SKSs and 22s are incoming.

7

u/gamercast1337 18d ago

Dont let any of the people on this sub convince you otherwise, we arent fixing the issues here, it will be nonstop crisis. Within 20 years (if that) youll step outside your door and wonder if you ever left Brazil the way things are going here.

Lucky you with a good sounding job, means you can spend a lot on guns. Just spend wisely things tend to get banned here . And be sure to buy ammo too, dont be the guy with a 5k set up and like 28 rounds lol

2

u/StalkerRigo 17d ago

Yeah I've been keeping an eye out for the politics and they dont look too good... Economy and gun wise. Good tip on the ammo, people tend to forget that.

I guess if Canada turns into Brazil, I will unfortunately be forced to again relocate. Sad.

3

u/Think_Lengthiness686 18d ago

To elaborate on the previous comment about RCMP contacting your gov for background checks, there is still a way to speed it up. If you somehow find another PAL holder as one of your references, you can practically speed run the process.

It took me only 5 months to get my license 3 years ago because one of my references was a PAL holder. From what I’ve heard, the police contacted her in the morning and my license got approved in the afternoon. And I was a Chinese citizen holding a work permit in Alberta.

3

u/StalkerRigo 18d ago

Unfortunately I will know only two other fellow countrymen in Canada, and none holds a PAL. Good thing at least they are in Canada, that should be better than nothing I guess...

1

u/StrongBreak2142 18d ago

It took my wife and me about three months to get our PALs, and I came from a Southeast Asian country. It's really not that bad. If you're coming to Canada as a permanent resident, you'll already be going through extensive immigration security and background checks involving agencies such as the CBSA, RCMP, IRCC, and CSIS, along with information-sharing through the Five Eyes partnership. I can't say the same if you're coming as a temporary worker or under another temporary status.

5

u/Agonizing-Stroke1812 8d ago

Question about the Supreme Court case. Can the LPC not just ram through an actual legislation with their majority gov in order to kill the case?

17

u/FunkyFrunkle 8d ago edited 7d ago

I mean, they can. They can do anything they want. They could have done it before they had a majority because they already had the handful of votes they needed from other party MP’s who subscribe to gun control. They could have gotten them from a scattered NDP, BQ or Green MP. The liberals were only a few seats away from a majority anyway.

Legislation doesn’t do anything to address the issues this program faces, and wouldn’t do much to boost support and it certainly wouldn’t do anything to address how unenforceable all this is.

All they would really do is legislate themselves into a corner unless they add a grandfathering clause which I do not see happening.

Poly didn’t seem too happy that the government chose to extend the amnesty and wait for the court decision. If they were quiet I would worry more, but the fact they were freaking out about it suggests that they don’t have as firm a hand on the helm as we might think. I don’t know, time will tell.

I don’t think it’s impossible, but I do think it’s unlikely that we’re going to see the government attempt to legislate before the court decision. They might after, but depending on the ruling I still don’t think it’s crazy to wonder if the government is looking for an avenue to exit without harming the political value in gun control.

Which leads me to another point.

People say that the government had lots of opportunities to abandon this without losing face, but what people don’t understand is that it’s not so much about losing or saving face. They lose face every single day on any given issue. It’s about losing or saving value.

Every opportunity the government had to take an off ramp came with having to more or less concede that this was a poorly executed idea and too costly which would bury any hope of ever revisiting gun control in the near future. Look at what happened to the long gun registry after it was scrapped. It left such a lasting bad taste that nobody has ever suggested it again.

Gun control is usually done in increments, slowly encroaching. The Trudeau government overplayed their hand and essentially blew their shot when they want all in on hard and fast gun bans which is about as far as you can go. The government is likely hoping for an outcome which they can dial this back while preserving the core message so they can creep ahead again down the road.

Gun control is an important core pillar for the Liberal party, and when you live next to the U.S., you want to preserve any and all means to hammer the conservatives while capitalizing on public sentiment if you’re the liberal party.

They know they can’t afford to buy back all these guns. They know there are way more than the numbers they published. They know the SKS represents a nightmare by itself. They know they overcommitted themselves but they also can’t afford to lose the value in gun control which is why they haven’t taken any of the “off ramps”. None of them made sense to take if you approach this from a “preserving the message” standpoint.

I’m not defending the guy, but objectively speaking, Carney hasn’t shown anywhere near the same amount of enthusiasm for this program as Trudeau did. It’s the people around him that are in full-throated support for this.

This was part of Trudeau’s core strategy to curtail violent crime and he mentioned it as such every chance he got. Carney by contrast hardly mentions it and if he has an opportunity to skirt around it, he does. He completely sidestepped the idea of banning the SKS when asked about it. He’s routinely neglected to mention the buyback as a core strategy. Trudeau got to live in the glamour of announcing the bans, but Carney has to work with the reality of enforcing them.

The government cannot escape the fact that there are millions of SKS rifles in the country. It’s been talked about at length in the media and they’d have to budget for millions of SKS rifles in a standalone buyback which would bankrupt the country. They also can’t really openly strong-arm people into surrendering them because of the optics involved, not to mention First Nations people. The SKS is a lose-lose situation which is why they’ve been so non-committal about it. They’re struggling enough with this program as it is, the SKS will cause more issues for them, not fix them.

Poly keeps demanding they ban the SKS but the government is already in an untenable position with the current buyback logistics. The SKS is not just another gun to ban, it represents an entirely new level of fuckery to an already huge, expensive, logistically impossible program. This is why Poly changed their language to “prohibit new sales”. They were probably told that a complete SKS ban isn’t realistic or likely.

This is why I think they wouldn’t be heartbroken if they lost this one.

5

u/InitialAd4125 7d ago

"It’s been talked about at length in the media, and they’d have to budget for millions of SKS rifles in a standalone buyback. It would bankrupt the country."

I think this is likely a major reason. See even if the supreme court affirms everything the lower courts said the government still has to deal with the fact that every lower court said they could ban and take away only if they provided fair compensation which the supreme court has amble evidence to see that the government is not providing that. (Also pretty sure there is another CCFR court case over that but that's besides the point). And if they were forced to do so well that would cause there ideology to hit hard reality. The reality that they don't have the budget for this. Likely to the point where it would have to be like the long gun registry and be extended overtime slowly yet surely paying people out as the program got paid little by little so the government doesn't go bankrupt in one go. Which also doesn't look great for them that they've added yet another expense to our debt payments for no actual gain whatsoever.

16

u/IAMURBUNKLE 8d ago

Yes, they will likely do this if they lose their case.

If you don’t think they will, look at the way they’ve fought the Emergencies Act case, they’ve lost at every court level but they’ve now appealed it to the SCC. They refuse to admit their actions were wrong, and they’ll never admit their gun control efforts are wrong either, they’ll just rewrite the rules.

10

u/rastamasta45 8d ago

I don’t think they’ll do it right away, they’ll save it for the election “thinks time we’ll get it right, a newly elected LPC will get rid of assault weapons and gun crime for good, we need another majority….again” it’ll be the 5th time they can run on it. JT literally campaigned on his own pathetic buyback.

13

u/boozefiend3000 8d ago

And it will most likely work, because the average person in this country is a fuckin moron

7

u/Late_Winner6859 8d ago

Yep, the average person that somehow manages to be below average…

1

u/CenturionV 5d ago

I could see them just overhaul the laws to feature ban and make all semi-auto, detachable magazine fed centrefires illegal period. They could then say you can keep your sks but it becomes prohibited the second you put a detachable magazine in it, better return that bubba to stock, can keep your garand too. This would also ban any new additions (makasi, carmel, backland, homesteader, turkish semi's) past, present or future and keeping all the currently banned rifles banned in one fell swoop. If they don't want to deal with a buyback just grandfather the old ones into prohibited without use, safe queens for eternity or until you die and no one can legally inherit them.

No buyback means you can't complain your property was unfairly confiscated, so there wouldn't be any future court cases to worry about. Falls in line with their recent comments about looking into "classification" changes. You know the changes won't be to allow MORE firearms I can tell you that. Trying to whack-a-mole all the tactical guns by name was a fools errand to begin with, when they could have just done extreme feature bans thay would have been way more effective at their goal.

10

u/rastamasta45 7d ago

I’m legitimately tired of hearing this, we all know they can do it, but it changes nothing for logistics and enforcement.

  • Ruger Mark IV Competition 6” Stainless

Once I’m ready for higher level gear (and for more models to try) for competition, I’d go:

  • Pardini SP
  • Beretta 87 Target

Any tips for searching for a good model? Is the only place to purchase/import IRunGuns? Or do any of the regular retailers still sell to exempt individuals

Yeah basically unobtanium. Though another option is the Colt Service Ace .22lr - you can find 1970-80s models online from American dealers for ~$1600+ USD.

Cool collector item and built to mimic the recoil of the .45 acp

Look it up - it’s the only 1911 model that can. It was designed for military training on the cheap. It’s a full sized 1911 frame that can accept a .45acp upper assembly. Not as easy as the 226 but same concept.
