Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

On a political note, it’s legitimately wild how bad Conservative Party derangement symptom is in this county. Now the report came out that LPC want to track down and sue people for “misinformation” and all you see is

“Well the CPC will do worse” and my favorite “the CPC will use this to make trans people disappear, watch them go away”

…..the LPC enacted this, they’re pushing this and they’re wanting this done. Like we’re actually at the point of Canadians electing full on authoritarian fascists and voters proudly proclaiming “nuh uh, pp is worse” while fully losing their freedoms.

We’re actually entering a death spiral with these voters…..Alberta needs to separate and I’m from Ontario lol!

Credit where it's due, it's an absolute masterstroke in media manipulation and perception management by the Liberals.

They've convinced their base (and others) that the opposition is always the bad guy which justifies all their bad behavior.

Like, look at any of those threads and filter people who go "what about PP" or "the cons would do it". It's easier to blame a hypothetical boogeyman than to address the real problem, they voted these people in.

Like the whole misinformation thing is crazy because who decides the misinformation? We know as gun owners that the government has zero issues spreading literal lies on their stuff including randomly reclassifying stuff and using their choice of description (assault style lol).

Hell remember when being gay meant you were unfit to be in the military and the government had a whole thing about spreading sickness and moral panic. They buried that really nicely though.

Anyone who voted for the liberals at this point absolutely must know what they're doing or choosing to be ignorant. It can't be just vibes and trump bad die for a decade+.

This is the truth about team voters. They can't see their own team as having faults so the other team is instantly worse. The reality is all of the of political parties suck, are corrupt and advantage rich people over normal people but at least the conservatives let you keep your guns.

I would also take reddit and redditor opinions with a grain of salt as it pretty far left.

Yes, the average Canadian is a centrist who dabbles in center-right and center-left politics when it suits them. Once-in-a-lifetime they will dabble in right or left politics, but they don't like that much.

Boomers on the otherhand, hold influence in politics. Remember that Boomers in Canada hold over 50% of household wealth. That's a huge chunk of money, and more importantly, a huge chunk of money politicians will take notice of. Hence, political influence. Furthermore, both the CPC and NDP bang on about housing and housing reforms, public transport, infrastructure, etc. These policies terrify Bommers because they'll take a financial hit. They know their investments and wealth are safe with the LPC.

Money talks.

As for younger folks voting LPC, the NDP aren't really a legit party anymore, and the Greens are ineffectual. If you are a voter, and you aren't a conservative, you are going to vote LPC, because your other options are not worth it.

Can we criticize the Liberals who have been in power for 11 years without both sidesing? 

CPC is infinitely better for a multitude of reasons not the least of which is guns, which is also a litmus test or an indicator of how much a government respects its citizens.

I hate the liberals but I'm under no illusions that the conservatives will fix the real issues Canada has but I would vote for them in a second for the reasons of this sub alone.
