First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

This is one of the smaller yaps from the anti gun lobby. Especially a lead figure head. For those who don't want to read the news article I will put down the points.

• The heading is of course talking about the 'sks loophole' and how it's costing lives somehow. Despite the fact that if you were to take the number of people to die from a SKS rifle in Canada throughout it's entire history in this country I would be willing to bet dollars to donuts that illegal handguns kill more people in just about any year in the 2020s. But enough from me.

• Mentions how the shooter had a PAL which seems more to be a failure of the licensing system then the firearm itself.

• Oh she straight up doesn't bring up the fact a cop killed somebody who wasn't the shooter because I guess when a cop kills someone it's not important.

• She quotes a poly article for her evidence of multiple instances. Which the article literally has to go all the way back to 2014 to pull from examples. In otherwords? Like one instance per year. Which is comically low considering how many times a shooting happens with a illegal handgun in a year. One of those cases it was just suspected as well. They also bring up some shit about criminal investigations and how in one city in Canada it was the most seized rifle or some shit... Which is like "Yea no shit sherlock it's one of the most popular firearms in Canada. What next? You find a lot of Ruger 10/22s? Lot of old Cooeys in old cottages?" Oh and the number seized? Less then 100... Yea.

• Brings up how smuggling is a valid concern but what about domestic sourced firearms? Proceeds to quote the RCMP and doesn't even give a percentage from that article just say's and I quote "suggest a significant share of crime guns are domestically sourced" That's it then she moves onto a different topic.

• Proceeds to quote New Zealand and Australia like they are somehow W policy's or success stories (they aren't compliance was horrible in both countries.)

• Had to add this quote for the laughs. "As an added insult to Canadian taxpayers, owners who surrender their prohibited firearm for compensation under the current buyback program can use that money to purchase a new assault weapon, the SKS, thereby injecting public money directly into the coffers of assault weapon manufacturers." Lmao. Who's making SKS's anymore? The people who make Chaisis? That I got a laugh out of.

• Brings up the most recent shooting which the shooter only killed one person in (not saying that's bad but like she's making it out to be this Nova Scotia level shooting and 1/3rd of the deaths came from the cops 2/3rds if you count the death of the shooter.)

• Her conclusion is utterly hilarious as she refuses to say the quiet part out loud. Sorry but it's literally the most popular semi auto centre fire firearm in Canada. I would say it's the single most popular firearm in Canada period but considering how many Ruger 10/22s and other surplus that exists that do be debatable.

Tldr? Lot of anti gunner slopper about fear mongering around the SKS and calling for a ban or in the mean time a 'freeze' on the sales.

She can’t help herself. You can very very clearly see that she is panicking. She is getting older and is upset she might not be around long enough to get to her so called ‘promised’ land. Like she’s not that old but she is getting up there in age. Keep in mind she would have started this in her 20s and having 30 years go by with very little to show for it in her mind is not great.

I recently saw the video done by SoapGunBox, and he mentioned the following.

What they are trying to do is to set up a narrative so it really reinforced the idea that gun is bad and the SKS is forefront of that.

I think SGB even pointed out that Liberal don't want to do anything meaningful to reduce the gun crime and in fact use it to loosen the rules since 2016 for criminals that can use whatever in their arsenal, meaning the firearm, to engage in various criminal activities. So they brew up more excuse saying gun is bad in our community.

This way, they can use the term firearms over and over again to shift the blame on to the firearm owners to the regular population that gun is bad. Any sort of potential gun violence that spawn several red flags are either not enforced, or can be used as source materials when things blow up again such as Sannich shooting and other things that involved a semi rifle.

There are other reports that's done by other people with citations and studies show that legal firearms owners aren't majority of the firearm issues in Canada. Of course, those were largely ignored. You simply can't talk sense with those that run things with emotions, especially those that like to use big words and shout loudly to solidify a hugely biased opinion.

I find it funny when people say the pro gun side in Canada is like completely out to lunch and impossible to talk to and the examples they use are like online discourse... Yea nobody online is going to be all that civil. It's rare it's not the norm. That is just how it is with internet behavior. However every time I have seen a interaction irl happen the pro gun side is always the more calm and collected one with stats to back themselves up. The anti gun lobby on the other hand? Yea they got a history of freaking out irl at press conferences. Personally the two meaningful anti gun interactions I have had irl have been with sadly the most stereotypical people you would think of as anti gun by the stats. One older woman and a middle aged woman. The older woman being my grand mother and the middle aged woman being my mother. Now funnily enough it turned out my grand mother was just having a bad day and eventually realized she was being unreasonable in her beliefs. That while bad things do in fact happen with guns the vast majority of bad things that happen with guns are not from licensed gun owners. My mother on the other hand? Yea no such luck. It was actually kind of a miracle of just sheer persistence and having to argue from the emotional side of things to win her over to even have guns in the house (despite my father having no objection to it.) I tried using the stats with her, I tried using reasoning and understanding. Yet nothing budged apart from the emotional argument. It killed me inside that I had to resort to it. I didn't want to but it was the only way she could see where I was coming from. To this day I have still tried to convince her to atleast try shooting one time. Even if it's just shooting a crossbow. Nothing. She told me if America invades she would be willing to learn but I straight up told her in her hypothetical that it would be to late. You need to have some base line training BEFORE something happens not during. It would be like saying "I will learn how to put out a fire when a fire starts." That's a horrible time to learn how to put out a fire. Yet she's just so stuck in her ways it's wild.
