Milsurps / Prohib The TTC is a POS gun, but Sofia is MY POS gun. ❤️❤️❤️

1948 TTC pistol. 15m. 1946 Russian surplus 7.62x25.

I spent a while at the range chucking several hundred rounds of shitty ammo down my TTC. The picture is the last grouping of the day. Had to drift my rear sight a hair and adjust for shooting low, but she'll do. This pistol reminds me of my first car, a 1990 Cutlass. A POS but always fun to take out.

The ammo has a cool story too. 1946 dated, with the factory number from Russia. The spam can had a piece if ripped cardboard with something scribbled in pencil on it. I got it translated and it is likely a female surname. So, it is probably the surname of the female QC inspector at the factory producing ammo while men were sent off to war. Too bad Russia are being dicks. I would have gone out of my way to see if the surname is still around the town where this factory was located!

EDIT: It just now dawned on me that shooting low is a good problem. A few passes with a file and I can bring the group up a bit! 👍

Picked up this Marlin 1894 trapper in 44 magnum, with a SIG romeo 3 max red dot for a crazy good deal. First range trip was great, the fit and finish is excellent. Shoutout to Uxbridge arms for hooking me up with this.

Buy recommendations Opinions on a first bolt action

For my first high powered rifle, I’m currently between a Tikka T3X Ace Game and a Bergara B-14 Wilderness Carbon both in .308

I’m a left handed shot and plan on using it for BC hunting and range shooting, also plan on keeping this rifle for a long time.

Went to a local BC gun shop today looking at some rifles in person and to hopefully get my hands on. Bergara but they didn’t have one in stock so one of the workers suggested the left handed Tikka which was the first lefty I’ve actually held and it was nice but I did kinda like the classic Remington 700 look the B-14 has.

Opinions on either of these would be greatly appreciated

Application / Regulation advice Do any one have any experience Getting gun accessories ( for example - fake suppressor ) by road from US to Canada

Is it legal to buy gun parts like Faux suppressor ( for 22lr) in US and get it to Canada by road? I'm going to declare at the boarder of course. Do anyone have any experience getting parts ?
If its a hassle at the border , I can buy it here . But those are wayy cheaper there

Feets / Collection / My build Making my own SKS rear-sight Pic rail instead of spending $90+ on a BadAce

Thumbnail

Been wanting a rear-sight Picatinny rail for my SKS for a while, but I couldn't really justify spending around $90 on the BadAce one, especially for what is ultimately a fairly small piece of metal, not that i dont value their product, I just like tinkering i suppose. Anyway I figured I'd have a go at making my own.

It's definitely not finished yet, but so far it's actually going a lot better than I expected.

I started with a cheap generic Picatinny rail from Amazon. Nothing special about it at all — basically just picked something inexpensive that looked like it had enough material for me to work with. From there it's mostly been a ridiculous amount of sawing, filing, checking, filing some more, and dry fitting it to the rifle over and over again.

I'm deliberately taking material off slowly because it's obviously much easier to remove another little bit than somehow put it back on afterwards. I've probably had the thing on and off the rifle more times than I can count at this point.

Tool-wise, I've kept it extremely basic. Mostly just hand tools — hacksaw and files. I've occasionally used a Dremel to speed up a couple of areas, but honestly I find the Dremel almost too aggressive for this. It can go from "needs a little more taken off" to "well, shit" pretty quickly, so I've been much happier doing most of the shaping with files even though it takes considerably longer.

The biggest part has just been getting everything to sit

where I want it and gradually shaping the Amazon rail around the rear-sight area. There has been a LOT of dry fitting. Fit it, see where it's touching, take it back off, file a little more, clean it up, fit it again... repeat about a thousand times.

Still plenty left to do. I need to finish the fit, clean up the rough cuts/file marks and generally make the whole thing look less homemade. I'm not calling it successful until it's completely finished and I've actually had a chance to see how well everything holds up.

But as a cheap little project, I'm pretty happy with how it's progressing. It has taken way more time and filing than simply ordering the BadAce mount obviously, but that's half the fun of making something yourself.

I'll post the finished result once I've got it cleaned up and completed. For now, this is very much the "trust the process" stage.

Note for reddit: Nothing in this post is for sale. This is a personal project and is being shared for informational/discussion purposes only. Please do not message me asking to buy anything.

Misc SKS magazine speedloaders

Wondering if anyone has seen a speedloader for tapco or other removable mags for the sks, specifically using stripper clips. All my ammo is on clips, and my gun uses removable mags with top access blocked by a rail. I'm willing to design one myself (probably printed), but if there's already one out there I would rather just use that.

Gun and gear reviews Horrible warranty, Burris/Stoeger

So I sent a 2-8x scope to Stoeger for warranty. I hear nothing back for 3 months then I finally get my scope in the mail. It's a 4-16x. They took 3 months to send me the completely wrong scope.

Now if I needed that scope for hunting season I'd be livid. But I wasn't planning on keeping any more Burris scopes. So on the bright side the scope they sent back is more expensive for a trade in.

Buy recommendations Rifle tripod recommendations

Looking to get into PRS and trying to figure out what tripod to go with. I’m seeing options from Leofoto, RRS, FatBoy and Vortex.
What are you guys running/recommending, and where are you buying them in Canada?
I’ll mainly be using ARCA, but it would be nice to have the option to use rifles without an ARCA rail as well.
Not looking to cheap out, but also don’t want to spend RRS money if something else gets me most of the way there. What would you go with?

Application / Regulation advice Question regarding PAL/RPAL and someone who maybe shouldn't be approved

Hi there,

Not sure if this was the place to ask but not sure where else to go/what to necessarily do.

A few years back a friend and I took the Firearms licensing courses and got our paperwork, I submitted mine, got my PAL/RPAL but never ended up getting a gun/shooting more than a few times with some other friends. This friend in question never submitted his paperwork so he still has to go through the application and all that but he did pass the course so he has it.

My question is who should I contact regarding him potentially not being a good fit for a gun. He's my friend and has been for over a decade but in the past few years, I've seen him become a lot angrier, he lashes out a lot more (e.g started hitting punching his car because he forgot swim trunks for a beach trip, the beach was a 7 min drive from where we stayed so we could've just drove back), and honestly his politcal takes are starting to make me nervous, especially with how he has supported the assassination of several political figures/commentators in very recent times. The thing is he is also a kind person, smart, good job, and the only time I've ever seen him fight other people was when they had started it. Ultimately though, I am nervous about the idea of him having a gun and the potential for this mindset he has to get worse and he maybe acts on something. I did have a sit down with him before and talked to him about his anger problems and how maybe he needs to reconsider owning a gun but that conversation didn't go the greatest and I doubt he will be asking me to be his reference for his PAL application.

Maybe I'm too worried, and if so, please call me out but if not, I'd be thankful for advice.

Here’s a fun failure I’ve never seen before! Happened during clay match. To be fair though I love this gun and have shot thousands of rounds through it.

Thought I would share with the group. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Fix my gun Canucks Operator Elite – stripped rail screw hole on the frame. Options?

I have a Canucks Operator Elite that I’ve had for about a year. I’ve only put under 100 rounds through it (shot it maybe 5 times total).

I mounted a Romeo red dot on the Picatinny rail. One day I noticed the whole rail was loose. When I got home and removed the red dot, I found that two of the four screws that mount the rail to the gun were already completely out—they had just been hidden under the optic mount.

I removed the rail, put Loctite on the screws, and tried to reinstall it. The problem is the hole for the rear most screw is completely stripped. I can’t tighten it at all.

Has anyone dealt with this on a Canucks / Operator Elite? What are some options to fix it? Or ask for manufacturer to help?

edit: clarified it's the screw hole that was stripped

Fix my gun Panzer arms m4 barrel space question.

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Hope you are well. Bought a panzer arms m4 to add to an Italian collection.

Took it apart to clean it and putting it back together I see there is a thin gap between the barrel and receiver.

I can't remember if this gap was here before I took it apart.

Does anyone else have this gap? If it shouldn't be there does anyone who also has one who had the same problem have a solution for how to fix it?

Thanks for your input!

Misc Legality of importing deactivated firearms?

Like the title says. I’m a huge nerd for old and weird guns that came from the 20th century and would love to have some to display on my wall. I’ve found a few both in the states and overseas, I was wondering if anyone had attempted to import any of them?

I know the UK for example is super strict on guns so deacts have to be done to a spec, so would a letter from their government satisfy the RCMP/CBSA?

If anyone does have experience with this, please dm me.

Gun and gear reviews First Impressions SG-12

Post image

Beautiful, I owned the M3 Super 90 and it was pretty nice but this definitely blows it out of the water in terms of feel and overall looks imo.

Some things I got to play with briefly, the button to switch from semi auto and pump is very easy on mine. The bolt release button is also pretty light, don’t have to push hard or struggle to release the bolt. The pump action seems smooth, I haven’t noticed any scratching yet, but that could change with real use.

The folding latch though is tight as hell, maybe I’m trying to unlatch it wrong but that spring won’t pull downward lol. Probably going to have to unscrew the rear sight to unfold it for now. Looks like there’s a rubber piece there between the stock and receiver that is getting it hung up.

Overall, it’s a nice one, fit and finish is great!! I’m going to run some high power shells over the next few weeks likely update in some other threads or posts!

Still have some wood finishing (clear coat, maybe stain it darker?) to do, and have to put in the MLOK rail inserts. But she's coming along!

Oh yeah and a clamp-on muzzle brake just for fun.

Gun and gear reviews SG-12 Spas

Sharing some photos. (More photos in the comments)
After a quick inspection it appears this is indeed a gen 3 or variant of gen 2 specific to the Canadian market. The stock when unfolded is flush to the rear of the receiver as per the original spas, this is different than the imports (gen 1 and gen 2) to the USA.
My stock latch (to the rear sight) was jammed out of box. I had to remove it with a flat head screwdriver. I got it unstuck but it’s still very tight. Also the stock is insanely hard to unlock. Destroys your fingers.

After disassembly, the charging handle was a bitch to remove. Firearms was super dirty, full of that cheap nasty oil. The bolt is a bit concerning. It’s very Turkish clone, but thankfully the bolt is blued and not covered in that garbage bbq paint they usually use. The extractor spring is the best I have ever seen on a Turkish gun, bravo. It’s still not benelli strong tho… and I will likely replace mine just because. Firing pin looks fine. Gas piston has a non serviceable steel oring, good thing we got a lifetime warranty tho it may hold up just fine. I would have liked to see some standard replaceable metal orings. Inside my receiver I found a knick in the aluminum near the rear wall where the rubber bumper. Had some aluminum bits floating around in there. I will contact tactical imports about my receiver but it’s likely just cosmetic.
The magazine tube extension is blocked by a post that you can remove with a screw driver. The magazine tube has a stopper before the extension, if you want to use the extension you can but you’ll need a new longer spring. If anyone has a recommendation for a spring replacement, please share. The plastic grip is authentically horrible, I instantly put hockey tape over it.
As for the “paint wear” on the metal heat shield from the pump hand guard, as per the original the clone also rubs and looks like it will definitely wear over time. Tac mentions this on their website and so does the manual. I’m not bothered by it but some people might. I put a little tac grease in the areas to help slow the wear down.

Internal receiver quality 6/10
Internal parts quality 8/10
External fit and finish 9/10
Spring quality 7/10
Overall 8/10

These are very subjective ratings based on my own experience and opinion.

Those calling this Turkish junk might be eating their words, this is very different than anything I have seen from turkey, including other tactical imports.

Bravo tac, bravo!

Also… I’m not going to outright say it but.. thank you for making this possible. It doesn’t make up for the last 6 years but.. respect when due.

Any questions feel free to ask.

(Purchased for my private collection, not for resale. Sharing is caring. I seen posts from tactical imports confirming a restock soon. Don’t buy from scalpers and show your fellow gunnies respect and appreciation. If this is Turkish crap to you, move along. If this makes you smile, you like Jurassic park, terminator, call of duty I hope this post gives you a better look.)

Misc Storage info relating to rust.

Curious what others are doing to make sure our paper weights aren't rusting. So far I've just been leaving a slightly heavier than normal coating of gun oil, and then wiping/reapplying every few months. Cant say the place its stored is overly humid.

Curious what others are doing or if that pretty much sums up most people's "routine" for long term storage.

Would rather not find out that I should of done something different when its too late haha.
