What is your favorite affordable round+firearm combo that isn't a .22?

Yes, ideally we get our 5.56 firearms back but I'm not counting on that so just looking for alternatives.

I had an semi-auto .223 that got banned. I have a few hundred rounds of FMJ ammunition. I bought a Tikka T3X Lite Stainless to shoot it as a target rifle. But the lite barrel heats up too much for repeated shooting. I see the Varmint Stainless is on sale at Bass Pro and was thinking about upgrading. But on second thought, I don't have access to a range greater than 200yds anymore, and I have a CZ 457 and Viper PST for the precision shooting experience at those distances. So now I am considering a manually operated repeater with a shorter barrel for shooting in the woods, shooting Tannerite, maybe deer hunting with the right ammo (I am on Vancouver Island, the Blacktails are tiny, and it is legal here)

TLDR Should I go with the CZ Trail, the Henry Supreme, the T3X Varmint or something else?

Everybody on the internet is saying to get a .22 because it is easy and cheap to shoot. But honestly, what can you do with a .22? Plinking and very small animals. Am I looking at this the wrong way? My FSC instructor sayed to get a .243 because its relativity cheap to shoot and still powerful. And another friend told me to get a 25-06 but its ammo hella expensive. Please fell free to give me another point of view.

Sounds like the elite features a heavier buffer and spring, as well as some changes to the bolt carrier. Could the improvements make this thing at least somewhat reliable out of the box?

The last time I was looking at adding an AR7 to my camping gear they were only about $370-400. Now I'm hard pressed to find one for less than $575. That's a lot of money for a bare bones backpacking rifle..

If that's just the way it is for the AR7 now, price wise, are there better options out there, or should I suck it up? I like how the AR7 breaks down into pieces and stuffs into its own buttstock for a light weight kit to add to your pack. But I mean, there's gotta be cheaper options out there for a bare bones take-down for back country camping?

Should I suck it up and buy the Henry anyways at the higher than usual price, or keep looking for something else.. Like maybe a short barrel little badger or something? How are they for camping? Recommendations?

Years ago, my license was up for renewal. While waiting for my renewal, my license expired. It only took 9 months, lol.

Unfortunately during that time, the OIC happened, and I missed out on all the cool pistol sales.

What with not being able to buy anything since then, I haven't really given attention to the world of new things. I understand we're on the glock Gen 6 now? Used to have a Gen 4. Loved it.

Maybe the supreme court bails us out, all this nonsense goes away and we can go shopping again. So what's new in the world of pistol? I have hope that sometime soon I'll be able to buy something, what should I be putting money aside for?

Anything a with a 10 or less capacity, I hate knowing I'm wasting space with pinned mags.

I thought Canada was safe, then I got home invaded. Still dealing with the PTSD but in the meantime, looking at gun ownership. Want to do it correctly, any tips about how to get one?

Also, (this is for the experts) based on the legal list of guns (hand guns for now) what is the best quality gun that -

• doesn't require tons of maintenance
• is Quality (not cheap crap)
• Doesn't lose it's aim after some use

Hi all. I'm going to turn 18 and upgrade from my minors pal to a full pal in a couple months here, and I'm starting to think about which guns I am going to buy. I have a budget of $1500 and am looking to get the following guns for the following reasons:

-Centerfire Rifle (Deer/Elk hunting, target shooting) Budgeting about ~$700 (With scope)

-Shotgun (Upland game bird hunting, trap/skeet) Budgeting about ~$500

-.22 (Small game and plinking) Budgeting about ~$300

As of now, I am considering the following

-Ruger American Gen 1/Glenfield Model A paired with a Vortex Triumph HD 3-9x40mm

-Used Benelli Nova or new Winchester SXP or Mossberg 500

-10/22?

I'm curious what recommendations you all have to offer. Even if you just had a budget of $1500 and throw my considerations out the window, what would you get? Open to any and all discussion, thanks!

Hi folks, its time to finally get my hands on my first shotgun.

I have been doing some research and with my knowledge on shotguns being soo little, i must admit i cant really decide on anything ive seen so far.

I mainly want one for "owning one" and maybe waterfowl hunting. Ive pretty much steered clear from shotgun after firing a 12ga slug on one of my coworker's shotty and was left traumatized xD.

Fairly new to shooting, been about 4 months with a PAL. Already got a ruger10/22, tikkat3x in 308win, and the type 56 sks. Must add a shotgun.

TLDR: looking for advice regarding a shotgun purchase. Brand,chambering and action type recommendations for a new shooter.

What’s your favourite Canadian made rifle? How many Canadian made rifles are in your collection?

I’ll throw out the obvious choice, the Long Branch No. 4 MK I Lee Enfield. I’m hoping to pick up on of these this summer.

I'm a (nearly) broke university student, but I would like to start shooting more frequently and seriously. I'm looking for a bolt action .22lr to mount a scope on and spend some good time practicing with. I'd love to pick up a CZ 457, Tikka T1X, Anschutz, Bergara, etc. but that kind of defeats the purpose of a budget rifle. I might as well just buy bucket loads of centerfire ammo and practice with that.

I'm looking for something under $400, bolt action, .22lr, able to mount a scope without drilling and tapping, and at least passably accurate.

I'm not shy of buying used guns either, most of mine were purchased used. I would love to hear stories of your old Cooeys, Lakefields, Winchesters, Mossbergs, CILs, TOZs etc. that perform above expectation.

Or maybe newer rifles like a Savage mkII, Norinco, or one of the miscellaneous Turkish models would be a better option?

I'm interested to hear your advice and experiences!

If Turkish semi automatics and Crusader arms are selling their semi autos for $2000, this seems like a better option for $2400 ish. I know it’s expensive but I’m willing to pay $400 more for a quality rifle. It’s a 308 with a detachable box magazine. There’s a couple places taking preorders. Delivery probably won’t be until November.

Obviously it’s expensive but what do you guys think about this rifle?

Also which colour should I get? I’m leaning toward the wood furniture but I also like the camo one with the light coloured barrel.

Hey everyone, very well considering picking up the mk 15 when it comes out but don’t have much experience in the LPVO field and looking for recommendations. Not looking to totally break the bank so maybe around $500ish or so and I’d mostly be shooting out to 100 yards or less with it, thanks!

I just replenished my gun fund (~2000$)and I’d like to buy a new to me firearm. I’d like a to start a collection but a lot of interesting guns are now banned. I was thinking on a Ruger 10/22 takedown because it’s cool and perfect for a SHTF situation. I have decided to come here and ask what you guys and girls think would be a good addition. Saw this back in stock at my local gun shop, 357 magnum. Weight and length all felt good, just a little pricy. Wondering if it’s worth the price tag in terms of reliability and value. Also would it make a good hunting rifle?

So far most of my experience with firearms has been small game hunting and plinking at cans with a .22.

I recently moved from a rural area to a city and I’d like to keep shooting but will be going to the local range. It maxes out at 200 yards. I’d like to get into target shooting at that range. Nothing no crazy just a hobby on the weekends. The .22 is fine but want something bigger and more fun.

Google is suggesting a Tikka T3x in .223 but there are a lot of models (varmint? CTR?) Any suggestions on what I should be looking into? Id like to keep my budget low but I’m in no rush and willing to save for the right piece. Upper end of what I’m thinking is 1000-1500 but like I said I’m willing to go up and down.

Looking for something that’s good out of the box and doesn’t need any serious upgrades but that has enough aftermarket support for a different stock, etc. if I want to.

Edit:

-Budget is just the rifle thought I’d like to stay south of 2k with glass included. But again, I’ll save for the right thing at the right price.

-this will strictly be for the range. There’s nothing around me I can hunt ethically or illegally with a .223 except coyote and I’m not interested in them.

Looking to one day add a lever .22 to the collection.
In your thoughts and experiences, which is the best lever .22? Which is the nicest to shoot/your favourite? Any known issues with any of these? I’d like something that will hopefully last a long time as a plinker and target shooter, and accurate enough to be fun.

Recently got my pal and have always wanted a benelli m4 but obviously the price tag is quite expensive. I’ve read around that panzer and canuck clones are good quality but a fraction of the cost.

I’d like to hear from some members what their opinions are.

I went to the double-decker South Common Canadian Tire in Edmonton. My very first time, I was so excited to see hundreds of Edmonton guns that would rival Leduc Canadian Tire's selection!

Had some tax return money to spend.

And then this happened...

Ended up buying the safe and taking it home today. First impressions are good. Seems solid and well enough put together. Weighs in at 335lbs. Light enough I was able to move it with a regular dolly fairly easy. There is a fair amount of modularity inside and it comes with 2 large lag bolts and anchors. There is also a backup key hole behind the keypad. Now all that's left to do is fill it up!

I've found a few for the $600-ish range, but not matching, or a tickler, or just abused.

I decided to stick with the OG and get a tactical stock one day if I'm inclined. Anyway, that advice helped on a previous post, but many in it also aren't SKS fans.

So for the fans, this is the cleanest example I've found around here. Fair deal?

I'm itching for an SKS and would adore owning an original, unbastardized example. But the looks and tinkering options of these aftermarket builds got me intrigued.

They're priced the same as any other SKS usually, but I've heard bad things about the quality of some of them. Are these prices fair and a good option for a first time SKS owner? Or should I stay traditional?

Mon problème : je sais qu’un superposé serait probablement le choix le plus logique pour le pigeon...mais mon cœur veut faire CRICK-CRICK.

Je regardais au départ un Remington 870 Police Magnum 12 GA avec canon de 18", mais j'ai vite compris que c'était probablement pas le choix le plus adapté pour suivre des pigeons d’argile.

Je suis ensuite tombée sur le Remington 870 FieldMaster 12 GA avec canon de 28", et là ça commence à ressembler beaucoup plus à ce que je cherche

Je ne compte pas faire de compétition ni devenir championne olympique du pigeon volant demain matin. Je veux surtout m’amuser, progresser et avoir quelque chose de fiable et adapté.

Et accessoirement, j’aimerais éviter d’arriver au stand avec le mauvais fusil sous le bras et que tout le monde se demande qui a laissé entrer la touriste >.<

Donc ma question : est-ce que le 870 FieldMaster 28" est un choix cohérent pour faire principalement du pigeon d’argile en loisir ?

Ou est-ce que je suis simplement en train de laisser mon amour du crick-crick prendre des décisions financières à ma place ?

Budget : environ 1500 $ max.
