Buy recommendations Browning BAR MK4 DBM
If Turkish semi automatics and Crusader arms are selling their semi autos for $2000, this seems like a better option for $2400 ish. I know it’s expensive but I’m willing to pay $400 more for a quality rifle. It’s a 308 with a detachable box magazine. There’s a couple places taking preorders. Delivery probably won’t be until November.
Obviously it’s expensive but what do you guys think about this rifle?
Also which colour should I get? I’m leaning toward the wood furniture but I also like the camo one with the light coloured barrel.

proof our politics are regarded. Its literally a (Now Banned) FNAR minus Pic Rails and pistol grip. Same lines, interchangeable mags, exact same mag release. But my hypothetical FNAR is banned? Get fucked

u/Jay_Nicolas Mar 09 '26
no no, it's not the same at all! The FNAR is black and scary and automatically more dangerous because of it!!
/s in case that wasn't clear, reddit...

Mar 09 '26
no its definitely the pistol grip because if you chsck last slide theres a black scary variant

You just figured out our gun laws make no sense?! I've known for years and to save what little sanity I have have left I stopped asking why and who! I just accept that they don't want us to have any firearms of any kind and then try and work around it.

u/HandSoloquatro Mar 09 '26
This is for a different class of buyers. Call it a white collar gun. If they banned these politicians and their friends would get mad ;)

u/DoYouGetSarcasm Mar 09 '26
I believe this has an integrated pic rail

u/CalibreMag Mar 09 '26
This is a Mk 4 BAR DBM.
The FNAR = Mk 3 BAR Match.

Who is taking preorders for these? For research purposes.

Yup - if I ever hypothetically had an FNAR, it would have been mightily frustrating that additional magazines are virtually nonexistent.

Cheaper than my Sako and Sauer mags lol.

Some of the entry level bolt guns may share magazines, I’m not a too sure.
The 303 mags are proprietary.

Crusader arms is a fucking hot mess... I know it may sound like im being dramatic, but buying one of their rifles was one of the biggest mistakes I've made in ages. Buyers regret doesn't quite cover it... I hate myself for not doing more research, although, when I did buy it, they were still relatively new. Total disaster.

They only make them with 16 inch barrels not the 18.6 we need here to be non restricted.
3
u/DoYouGetSarcasm Mar 09 '26
There is amk 4 dbm with a 20 or 22 inch barrel (can't remember which)

I have no idea the markets but it exists with a 22 inch barrel. Maybe in the future in Canada?
https://www.browning.com/products/firearms/rifles/bar/bar-mk-4-dbm-speed.html
There are some with 18.5 barrels too. I don't know if they meet the 470mm (18.50394 inch) barrel length requirement to be non restricted.

I mean, what's the likelihood this will turn into an OIC'd paperweight?
Wood furniture looks classic, but a lightweight synthetic stock is what I'd be leaning on.

I don’t think we have the version with the detachable box mag in Canada just the hinge mag
9
u/iatekane Mar 09 '26
The DBM version is coming but not here yet.
Browning did a special run of them with 18.5” barrels for us
1
u/450k_crackparty Mar 09 '26
What.. this is news to me. The DBM has been around a long time but never in an NR length which is why no one ever really stocked them up here (to my knowledge). Now if only they'd make a version with irons as well...
2
u/iatekane Mar 09 '26
Yup and I agree with irons would be good, could always add after market sights though.
Not sure when they’re coming but there are a few details offering pre orders right now

The standard Mk4 DBM barrel length is 18.5". It's not a special run for Canada, which is good, because that means we can import ones from America.

The liberal government will classify this as a nuclear weapon soon so if you want one maybe just rent one for a session instead

Nice. What calibres are available?
1
u/Flat-Dark-Earth Big Bore Specialist Mar 10 '26
DBM Model is only offered in 308 as far as I know. 5 round detachable mags.

My buddy put a preorder in for one. I was kinda skeptical about it at first because I’d never heard of it but as someone else said I guess they made the barrel slightly longer for Canada. I was worried my buddy would have paid a down payment and then be getting stuck with a restricted rifle.

Dantesport from Montreal. I have never heard of or done business with them but that’s where he put the order in.

I preordered with Dante’s after the Vegas show - they told me evidently there are very few of the DBM models coming to Canada. Not sure how accurate that is but it might be a limited run.

Everyone remember the FNAR? This is basically the new FNAR. Seems like a good value.

u/Fuck_you_all22 Mar 10 '26 edited Mar 10 '26
For just $400 more, any day. But no 223 nor stanag mag compatible. I think browning only markets non detachable magazine version in canada.
Edit : A proprietary DBM is $320. Yikes!

u/escv_69420 Mar 10 '26
Check out the Infitech furniture for these. It's actually awesome.
2
u/AllDay1980 Mar 11 '26
I couldn’t find anything for the MK4 just MK3
1
u/escv_69420 Mar 11 '26
Hopefully they update it for mk4 because its really cool and doesn't even look like a lame cope build.
1
u/jiggy7272 Mar 10 '26
Last I read when they first came out the rcmp classed these as Restricted due to the 18inch barrel length

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Mar 11 '26
I’ve seen these on Dante’s as a pre-order! I’ve wanted a DBM model so badly. They mentioned it’s a limited run in Canada - think these will be shipped in batches like marlins, or is this some kind of one-and-done situation? I’m praying it’s the former because these are a bit rich to my blood currently, but I’d sooner get the OVIX or hunter over the regular MK4 (still want a medallion though)
1
u/Afrocowboyi Mar 11 '26
thanks Dante for the answer couldnt find anywhere regarding the R1. Made in Portugal.
1
u/NorthwindX7 Mar 15 '26
Oh no.
Normally I'd be happy but I got one of the first ovix mk4's available hoping it wouldn't get banned since it has a hinged floor plate... Worried this is going to draw ban hammer attention to all models.

u/Flashy_Inspector115 Mar 09 '26
If the Templar is banned for being a ar180 variant, this definitely is banned being a fnar variant.
1
u/Bull-RunTheJewels Mar 09 '26
The BAR MK3 already exists and is not banned
0
u/Flashy_Inspector115 Mar 09 '26
Who says? It might as well be banned. Just because retailers stock it, it doesn't mean its unbanned. I lost my crypto to prohibition this way.
There is a better argument for banning this than the Templar that doesn't even have a frt.

Browning Mark 4s and their counterparts in the Benelli R1 are definitely many cuts above their Canadian or Turkish counterparts. I'd argue the extra $400 is a small buy-once-cry-once price difference.
