Buy recommendations If you had some spare change would you rather spend it on Benelli M4 or Makasi MK-15?

Asking for a friend.

Benelli if you want a shotgun. Makasi if you want a rifle. Keep the spare change if you want cash. This is the only correct answer.

u/cat_owner613 May 12 '26

I want all three, but can’t. Gotta settle with only one of those options.

Personally, I have a Benelli M4 and also some banned 223 rifles. I like the Benelli because it's proven, relatively lower chance of a ban (though not by much because it's a tactical semiauto), and it's hands-down top-tier law-enforcement and military grade gear. What I don't like about it is it's not swappable with a longer barrel (without serious mod) for most clay clubs with longer barrel rules. So you're just getting a range boom stick and a hypothetical tool that might come in handy if the SHTF. There's also the mag restriction to 5 rounds because it's a semi. The Makasi could be your last chance to get a decently reliable AR-lineage 223 semiauto rifle if you don't have one. If I didn't have any gun right now (like, just got my PAL), then I would get the Makasi first and then get a Benelli M2 (for the greater versatility).

Theres funny ways around the mag limit on the benelli isnt there? You can get that tube extender thats ONLY designed for certain shells, and ghost load it and you can get like 2 extra shells in it?

Im on the m4 train. We still have spots in out makasi preorder, and are out of stock on m4s. But if all things are equal go with the proven thing. Theres no bad reviews on the mk15 but it also hasnt had the kind of adoption its going to get up here yet. Plus the m4 is less likely to get banned

2

u/Rogan403 May 12 '26

Ok well then what kind of guns do you already own? Do you already own another shotgun or another similar-ish rifle? If you have a shotgun but don't have a rifle that can do what you want the mk-15 for then get that. If you already got a rifle but no shotgun then get the m4.

The limited reviews from USA do not highlight any issues.

36

u/Top_Importance6216 May 12 '26

neither.

1301 with spare dosh for aftermarket drip.

9

u/jmz-jmz May 12 '26

This is what I did, no regrets

3

u/Ov3rReadKn1ght0wl May 12 '26

I'm with you on this. If I could break the framework of the question, it would be a 1301 hands down. If abiding by it, M4 purely because I love shotguns.

Benelli m4 better soyboy

2

u/escv_69420 May 12 '26

It is in fact not. 1301 is basically it's sequel. They're made in the same factory, and the "Blink" gas system is faster, and less ammo, position and grip sensitive than the recoil system in the M4.

3

u/Flashy_Inspector115 May 12 '26

They are not made in the same factory. Despite beretta owning benelli, they do function separately. Like Colt and Colt Canada.

11

u/itsmeAG32 May 12 '26

Mk15 then a 1301

8

u/PA-Rugby-Fan May 12 '26

Makasi MK-15

6

u/Murray3-Dvideos May 12 '26

Me personally, an M4, fills a semi auto shotgun void in my collection. Love shooting slugs out of shotguns that have accurate sight setups too so the M4 would be a prime candidate for that.

2

u/swift_gilford May 12 '26

1301 and leftover on ammo and accessories.

1

u/cat_owner613 May 12 '26

How’s 1301 better than M4?

4

u/swift_gilford May 12 '26

Didn't say it was better.

But I've used both and lean into the 1301 more. Current pricing on M4's is just too much for what they are nowadays.

3

u/Jabronski95 May 12 '26

It's cheaper and arguably as good, but has a non user serviceable gas system which is super lame.

1

u/DougMacRay617 May 12 '26

Reverse that question. The 1301 is superior in literally everyway. At this point the m4 is just riding on its age old reputation. While its not a bad gun, the 1301 is new and improved

4

u/BrotherLefthand May 12 '26

1301 mod2 > M4

And honestly... A300 patrol kitted out > 1301 mod2

2

u/BusinessObjective965 May 12 '26

The A300 UP has some fun camo options. (Tigerstripe and Woodland factory finished)

The price gap between the two in Canada isn't as big as our neighbor down south.

A300's come from the USA and the 1301's come from Italy.

It seems like the 1301's get an import charge on coming into the USA and A300 get one coming into Canada.

2

u/BrotherLefthand May 12 '26

We're still talking a $500 difference at retail. I think that's significant. 99% of people will be just as well served by a patrol as they would a mod2.

$500 let's you kit your a300 how you want and leaves room for ammo. I think all an a300 needs ia a dot, tube extension, and a sling. It's got good furniture out of the box.

u/BlackFeather-01 May 12 '26

M4 was my first shotgun just told myself at the time I wanted the best. Bought it back in 2017 looks and runs just like the first time I shot it

Maybe I’m wrong but with the state of the confiscation and the lawsuit I’d be surprised if we saw an OIC bans.

No, all the care about is votes. They did all this as a quid pro quo for Prevosts' riding to align with the Libs instead of BQ. Now they have enough of a majority that it's not needed anymore and I wouldn't be surprised if Carney quietly distances himself from a mentally ill loud mouth that his agenda no longer needs. All the gun ban stuff costs them A LOT of money, and they've already got the publicity brownie points out of it so I also wouldn't be surprised if it just kinda stalls out where it's at.

6

u/mischling2543 May 13 '26

Yeah the fact that they didn't use Tumbler Ridge as an excuse to ban more shit tells me that they aren't interested in pushing this any further

3

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears May 12 '26

Yeah I think that well is drying up and they’re moving on. No recent news at all and nothing budgeted for gun control initiatives or the ASFCP based on the spring economic update.

2

u/SpinachStunning5547 May 12 '26

Not OIC but probably banned as a 180 variant would be my guess.

5

u/Reasonable_Hall2346 May 12 '26

How? It already has a NR FRT status. In the RCMPs minds this is a brand new rifle that is neither a FAL or an AR and hence the FRT being given as NR.

6

u/AdeptArt May 12 '26

That didn't protect the ATRS MS

-1

u/chillyrabbit May 12 '26

ATRS MS could be banned because the regulatory environment at the time meant it wasn't an M16 variant.

2 The firearm of the design commonly known as the M-16 rifle, and any variant or modified version of it, including the

(a) Colt AR-15;

But the May 2020 OiC wording banned

87 The firearms of the designs commonly known as the M16, AR-10 and AR-15 rifles and the M4 carbine, and any variants or modified versions of them — other than one referred to in item 47, 49 or 50 of this Part — including the

Which could prompt an RCMP tech to go, "yeah we didn't think it was an M16 variant in 2016, but in 2020 we think it is a AR10 variant" Which is not just wholesale fraud that some people try to perpetuate. There is some legal basis or defense that the RCMP can say we reconsidered.

3

u/SpinachStunning5547 May 12 '26

You are trying to apply logic to understand a situation that was created without it...

2

u/WonkyTusky May 12 '26

7.62x39, only gonna get more scarce

2

u/dgod40 May 12 '26

Well surplus is already gone pretty much and I don't think there is going to be a shortage of things like redbox that is still being produced.

2

u/Ancient-Wall-4515 May 12 '26

Mk15 especially while it's NR.

2

u/Flat-Dark-Earth Big Bore Specialist May 12 '26

Makasi.

2

u/DougMacRay617 May 12 '26

Mk15 all day long, while 12 gauge is a versatile cartridge the lack of effective range for shotguns is its biggest drawback

2

u/Candid-Tomato2971 May 12 '26

Makasi, semi auto shotguns are safe for now, Makasi would be soon to get banned. I’d get one to hold and perhaps may get include in any potential grandfathering

2

u/escv_69420 May 12 '26

1301 Mod 2.

or M4, your choice and neither are wrong. I've had both and find the 1301 to be MUCH less ammo sensitive, but kicks a little more.

You can do almost anything a civvy needs to do with something like an m4/1301. Makasi? Fun for larping? maybe take a mule deer with some 77gr TMK? I don't know. Don't get me wrong, I really want one but only because I've already got a built out 1301 and a nice old bolt gun.

2

u/VaselineCarpetSlug May 12 '26 edited May 13 '26

I get all the 1301 love here, but damn... I own both and I don't think it's an easy decision. 1301 is good for people who want a good semi-auto shotgun out the box. Pro lifter gate, lighter overall, shoulders well. It's a great gun. Blink system cycling faster is a marketing shit sandwich, stop eating the sandwich cause your breath stinks. The cycling difference is so miniscule and of little to no value in the real world.

M4 is the better gun if you spend the money perfecting it. Unfortunately, it costs a lot of money getting aftermarket parts and kitting it out to be perfect. It's a workhorse and dependable. Life or death situation, one gun, it is always going to be the M4.

I would say go with the semi-auto shotgun first and then the Makasi. The former is so versatile as a weapon, it's kind of a no-brainer. If you already own a tube fed or magazine fed shotgun..... maybe the Makasi. Just buy the guns period, who cares if they get banned, you have them.

2

u/Liam_M May 12 '26

Makasi every day of the week

2

u/mischling2543 May 13 '26

MK15 if those are my only options but only because semi-auto shotguns rub me the wrong way.

I'd rather put $2400 into a good bolt-action long-range setup though

2

u/GopherRebellion May 13 '26

Logging road shooting. M4.

Range. MK-15.

Blowing up pumpkins with my Benelli is awesome. Paper a little less so.

2

u/JaxIsLoud May 13 '26

I'm waiting on my makasi rn. I'm getting it while I can. If/when the ban it I'll be glad I had it and got to shoot it. The m4 is likely safe for a long time so I'd get the makasi while you can.

2

u/Otherwise_Top_5762 May 12 '26

Makasi. Then you spend $700 (less if used) on a panzer ege m4 clone. For a Turkish clone reviews are pretty solid, and personally have over 1000 rounds through mine reliably. If it breaks can fix with benelli parts or literally buy 3 more for same price

1

u/TopLemon3678 May 12 '26

Tikka t3x lite in stainless steel, 308, woox furiosa furniture, and squinting before I buy an optic and go over budget

1

u/Unknownuser010203 May 12 '26

Both are a gamble, the real question is are you more interested in rifle shooting or shotgun shooting?

1

u/WinterOrb69 May 12 '26

The best shotty I own is by far the m4

1

u/SocksOfDeath May 12 '26

You could do what I’m doing and get an a300 up and the makasi. The m4 is I’m sure an awesome gun, but for half the price I’m sure the a300 is more then capable.

1

u/Weary_OLeary May 12 '26

I would go for the makasi over the m4 because if it doesn't get banned it will likely go up in price due to high demand within the next 6 months. And if you do preorder the makasi and it gets banned and the store only gives you store credit, well, no sweat, now you can use that store credit to buy the Benelli

1

u/Brymes13 May 13 '26

Benelli exists, makasi does not yet, decision easy

1

u/fartpoop2 May 13 '26

Not like their gonna ban a semi benelli well you never know in Canada at this point but you get the idea

1

u/Strong-Owl-55 May 13 '26

Mk15 and a turkanelli

1

u/epnk420 May 16 '26 edited May 16 '26

Benelli 100% it might survive the ban hammer list makaski won’t

1

u/Opening_Pizza May 12 '26

Benelli M4 but try and avoid getting one with the fixed choke so you have more versatility, or compare it to the 1301 mod 2 which can run faster if you're into that kinda thing

0

u/DoYouGetSarcasm May 12 '26

Mk15. Unless i expected it to get banned, then neither.

The M4 is a tube fed semi auto shotgun (only available in short barrel and 3 inch chamber?). There's tones of those around for less than $3000. In fact i already have a good semi and it's got a long barrel and takes 3.5 inch shells. I have no use for an M4.

The mk is a semi in 556, not many of those around. It might be over priced but it's one of the few available in the market

1

u/Birdybadass May 12 '26

Oof your Benelli example hurt me to the core. It’s like saying there are plenty of 2 door coupes around so why would anyone want a Mercedes AMG GT Black series?

0

u/Iokua_CDN May 12 '26

Oof... people won't like my answer......

I'd grab an Alcor AND a Semiauto made by a reliable Turkish company.  Or better yet, a company with good warranty.  Like give me a gun from tactical  Imports with a lifetime warranty and even if something happens to it, I'll get a replacement or repair or a refund. Canuck sounds like they are great too, quick to help, warranty handled in Canada by O'Del Engineering.

Heck if I had the extra bucks,  I'd even get the Triggerpack for the Alcor to turn it into a better pistol grip semi.

2 Turkish guns vs picking 1 better quality  gun.... I know it's crazy. But I don't have a semi auto 223 or a semi auto shotgun.

If I already owned a semi auto shotgun or  a 223, then I'd of course get the better  quality other gun then

0

u/epnk420 May 16 '26

Yuck dude Turkish is the worst gun I’ve ever owned allegedly I’d never buy another ever
