Gun and gear reviews SG-12 Spas

Sharing some photos. (More photos in the comments)
After a quick inspection it appears this is indeed a gen 3 or variant of gen 2 specific to the Canadian market. The stock when unfolded is flush to the rear of the receiver as per the original spas, this is different than the imports (gen 1 and gen 2) to the USA.
My stock latch (to the rear sight) was jammed out of box. I had to remove it with a flat head screwdriver. I got it unstuck but it’s still very tight. Also the stock is insanely hard to unlock. Destroys your fingers.

After disassembly, the charging handle was a bitch to remove. Firearms was super dirty, full of that cheap nasty oil. The bolt is a bit concerning. It’s very Turkish clone, but thankfully the bolt is blued and not covered in that garbage bbq paint they usually use. The extractor spring is the best I have ever seen on a Turkish gun, bravo. It’s still not benelli strong tho… and I will likely replace mine just because. Firing pin looks fine. Gas piston has a non serviceable steel oring, good thing we got a lifetime warranty tho it may hold up just fine. I would have liked to see some standard replaceable metal orings. Inside my receiver I found a knick in the aluminum near the rear wall where the rubber bumper. Had some aluminum bits floating around in there. I will contact tactical imports about my receiver but it’s likely just cosmetic.
The magazine tube extension is blocked by a post that you can remove with a screw driver. The magazine tube has a stopper before the extension, if you want to use the extension you can but you’ll need a new longer spring. If anyone has a recommendation for a spring replacement, please share. The plastic grip is authentically horrible, I instantly put hockey tape over it.
As for the “paint wear” on the metal heat shield from the pump hand guard, as per the original the clone also rubs and looks like it will definitely wear over time. Tac mentions this on their website and so does the manual. I’m not bothered by it but some people might. I put a little tac grease in the areas to help slow the wear down.

Internal receiver quality 6/10
Internal parts quality 8/10
External fit and finish 9/10
Spring quality 7/10
Overall 8/10

These are very subjective ratings based on my own experience and opinion.

Those calling this Turkish junk might be eating their words, this is very different than anything I have seen from turkey, including other tactical imports.

Bravo tac, bravo!

Also… I’m not going to outright say it but.. thank you for making this possible. It doesn’t make up for the last 6 years but.. respect when due.

Any questions feel free to ask.

(Purchased for my private collection, not for resale. Sharing is caring. I seen posts from tactical imports confirming a restock soon. Don’t buy from scalpers and show your fellow gunnies respect and appreciation. If this is Turkish crap to you, move along. If this makes you smile, you like Jurassic park, terminator, call of duty I hope this post gives you a better look.)

Joined the club with the mag sleeves TM-22. I love this little thing. And the bolt action shotgun? I hope you're not shy when you break that thing out at the range. The browning is a 7mag (not new to guns at all. Just new to being able to buy them)

Went a bit of a different route with this one but I fucking love it. The other conversion kits just look so bulbous and clunky to me. This is the way.

Misc Storage info relating to rust.

Curious what others are doing to make sure our paper weights aren't rusting. So far I've just been leaving a slightly heavier than normal coating of gun oil, and then wiping/reapplying every few months. Cant say the place its stored is overly humid.

Curious what others are doing or if that pretty much sums up most people's "routine" for long term storage.

Would rather not find out that I should of done something different when its too late haha.

22LR Savage A22 in a Boyd's At One stock. I host a few family range days every year and wanted something that was adjustable so that new shooters could get comfortable behind a scope and not be subjected to my fit on a rifle.

I've just installed a Weaver 605 rail so that we can get the scope a little further back. I've put my spare 3-9x32 AO scope on it and I think it looks low and lean. Not bad.

(BTW, it's made in Ontario. Let's support Canadian companies, guys and gals.)

Although they have been banned, they still deserve our love and passion! They don't deserve only collecting dust in the safe for ever.

Fix my gun Rust

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hey all!

I recently purchased a Benelli M4. I’ve had it out twice now and put maybe 250 rounds of buckshot and slugs through it as well as some target loads. I oiled it before I put it together the first time. When taking it apart now to re apply some oil, I noticed this rust here. I was just wondering if this is a problem and something can be done about it or if this is something that just happens. I am rather new to the hobby so any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Love this little takedown 10/22 chassis - my new 16” carbon Ruger takedown should be here sometime next week, still debating on what optic I want to mount.

Will post feet when build is finished 🫡

Shooting Sulun Spas 12 shooting and opinion after shooting

As mentioned in my previous post I got out an hour ago to shoot the sulun straight out the box. A few mishaps and issues considering its a turk gun, 1: Failure to feed/dual feed, my guess is that this was done with birdshot since I dont have anything else to use at the moment besides that, will get heavier loads Friday. 2: slight scraping with the pump action, just some paint getting scratched after slight use, doesn't affect the action just cosmetic. Feels like it may be actually decent for a Turkish gun when broken in, will cycle fine after used for a few hundred rounds is a guess (only have one other Turkish shotgun which is a panzer m4, this is better then that out the box) the video shows the 1 failure i had through two boxes of birdshot, will test tomorrow with semi more since I shot it once with semi

I hate the guys who scalp and markup by $1000 as much the next guy, but it’s so disappointing to see this labelled “sold” after being posted same day. Some people just have different levels of disposable income.

For the dumb automated reddit rule: this is not a sale, offer or advertisement of any item, only a screenshot of a website.

Feets / Collection / My build Valmet M78 “DMR”

Picked up this great example of a Valmet M78 in .308 a couple of weeks ago from GunPost. If you’re familiar with it, you’d know it was developed by Valmet as a possible LMG for the Finnish army. It didn’t get adopted but they still produced it for the commercial market. A semi-auto with a 5 round magazine doesn’t make for a great LMG so I figured I’d see if I could turn it into a DMR without having to make any permanent modifications to the rifle. It performed quite well at the range today with the cheapest ammo I could find locally (4.5” groups at 200 meters). I was just happy that it held a consistent zero! Here’s the build list:

Valmet M78 in .308

-AK Master Mount side rail (AKM Pattern)

-RS Regulate AK-303M lower mount w/ full rail upper

-MDT Premier low scope rings

-Primary Arms SLX 1-6x

-Valman AK2.0 Buffer tube adapter

-Magpul MOE PR Carbine stock (wanted something that was lightweight but still retained the silhouette of the club foot wood stock)

1; has anyone been able to get on these in Canada? My
Local dealer said they’re importer doesn’t list it. I figured I’d ask around before trying to get them to special order it

2; Would shipping this within the USA and going to pick it up myself be an option? I know crossing the border with fire arm components can get complicated. I know it’s just a harmless piece of rubber and plastic but I’d like to avoid any hassle if possible.

Thanks!

First Turkish, it was recommended by few guys doing action shooting so I decided to take the risk

Had safety issue in the very first day but LGS made it right

Significant heavier than my 10/22. So far, I have seen few flaws in its design but tbh, it is expected

Aluminum receivers, aluminum handguard with M-Lok, heavy barrel with threaded muzzle, accept some AR15’s accessories like grips, stock; 25-rnd magazine which could fit my Ferro Concept’s KTS placard with good tension

It is a good coping gun.

I did toonie mod, added few Tommy Enterprise’s cosmetic part, basic vertical grip with combo dot + mag from Holosun. Cannot wait to hit the range this weekend

Update: sighted in my gun today. Cycle CCI Minimag 40gr very well. No jam or hickup. It even cycles cheap bulk Winchester white box 36gr 555rnd which gave my 10/22 hard time. I shot nearly 300 today no issue at all except the inner coin of the toonie I placed between buttstock tube and rubber disk was loose. Now I have a $2 washer

Application / Regulation advice Can I carry a gun case in public?

I live in downtown Toronto and often use the subway and busses to get to the ranges.

I'm currently using a Vevor gun hardcase to carry my SKS. I don't have any stickers or labels on it that screams "there's a gun inside", but I read that a gun case alone is enough to cause panic or get stopped by the police, and that you need to cover the gun case (which is impossible because the case is already HUGE).

Is this a real risk? I'm getting a ton of conflicting and unclear info online.

Feets / Collection / My build Finally got my dream rifle — Sako TRG M10 .338 LM. M10 owners, what are you running on it?

Post image
137 Upvotes

Long time coming. Been chasing an M10 for a while and when I saw one pop up online I had to — 27” .338 Lapua, Coyote, folding. Turns out they only get about three a year, this one was ordered in 2024, and every other shop I called said special orders on these are paused and were a 1–2 year wait even before that. So when they said “we have one,” I didn’t think about it very long.

Came with the rifle, one mag, manual and the Sako hard case. That’s it.

I already run a TRG-42, everything in the safe is on Nightforce rings and ATACR’s and I’ve moved all my bipods to ARCA (MDT Ckye-Pod), so I’m leaning toward maybe an S&B or Tangent Theta and a short M-LOK ARCA rail up front.

For the guys who actually own one:
What scope did you end up putting on?
Ckye-Pod HD, Accu-Tac, Atlas?
Spare mags — anyone found them anywhere other than Tenda? Did you go down the change-kit road for .308/6.5 training?
Anything you wish you’d known before the first 100 rounds? Break-in, brake, cleaning, whatever.

Also open to any accessory I’m not thinking of. Ammo suggestions welcome too — I’ll be handloading eventually but want a factory load to zero and chrono with.

News / Politics / Activism How Responsible are Fudds for the Current State of Firearms in Canada?

I recently had a discussion with a fellow PAL holder on some of the new exciting rifles that are coming into the country. To summarize his viewpoint in short, it was that no one needed such firearms as they have no use in hunting. It was reminiscent of the democrat argument of “just buy a shotgun”.

In my experience, the younger generation of enthusiasts view firearms in an opposite light of fudds, where firearms are a means of self defense from tyranny in form of government and intruders.

This got me thinking, how responsible are fudds for our current dire circumstances? I feel that most of us had to become political activists in recent years due to necessity whereas fudds choose to be politically complacent or have been convinced that less freedoms are better.

In some part I feel that we as a community actually deserve the hand that has been dealt. Even on our firearm based sub, I see some comments being massively upvoted that promote limiting our freedoms as Canadians or cope comments because it would mean we are superior to the US.

Would it have always turned out like this?
