Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

My wife's boyfriend told me that he's still seeing people bring previously non-restricted now prohib'd guns to the range btw......interesting.

I just wanna be able to afford the bare minimum boys, and be able to actually take my guns out to shoot. I dont even dream of owning a house etc anymore.

I havent been to the range in like 2 years to help deal with this stress, and cant even get the most basic job to afford to live, let alone afford ammo to go out. Shits looking real dire, fellas.

u/Rewindonemoretime Jun 22 '26

I feel your pain brother. I got into home ownership just in time, but I’ve since been priced out of moving up, hell, I’m priced out of most repairs I need to do. The amount of deficiencies are climbing while the cost of living pushes me closer to the brink. Hard to stay positive most days I just hope things kinda plateau and I can try to catch up.

16

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Jun 22 '26

Stay strong broski. That job offer will be around the corner. You can build that financial base and still indulge with .22 range trips first!

11

u/gamercast1337 Jun 22 '26

200+ applications/cold calling/cold emailing/walking in to their business for a variety of jobs in like less than 2 months and the best I was able to do was an offer for a job that they lied about over the phone for what it would be (paid at minimum wage of course).

Maybe if we shoot ourselves in the foot even more economically to spite the Americans things will turn around?

u/China_bot42069 Jun 22 '26

Ankles up guyz

u/Uncle_Ted_1942 Jun 23 '26

I feel it. Been unemployed for 4 months. I’ve lost track of how many jobs I’ve applied for. Had 1 politely turn me down after an interview, the rest just ghost.

As soon as my college class graduated our program, govt cut most of the money in our sector and almost nobody is hiring at more than minimum wage. I can’t even fucking volunteer because most of the jobs don’t even exist anymore lmao

6

u/gamercast1337 Jun 23 '26

Fucking brutal man. Have you just gone in to the business, shake the owners hand and ask when You start ? That's what the boomers online keep telling me what to do.

In all seriousness it absolutely destroys the very little bit of mental health you have left, doesnt it? Forget owning a house, land, family, yearly vacations. I want a fucking job where I know by the end kf next month I dont need to pull some bullshit to have money left over. I want to be able to go in to a store, buy my food by only needing to look at the nutrition label, not the fucking price tag.

5

u/Uncle_Ted_1942 Jun 23 '26

I’m 21, still live at home. My father was born on the last year of the baby boomer. He constantly tells me that kind of shit lol one of the jobs he “found” for me was laying concrete for minimum wage 1/2 an hour away.

I work forestry and drive a gas guzzler that refuses to drink anything but premium. I’m used to doing 300 kilometers a day mileage PAID, not 100 kilometers unpaid. I would be putting half my paycheck in the gas tank. It’s the only job in the fucking county I can find though.

I’m just gonna head up to the rez and hit the blackjack tables instead.

Time to get into construction man. Learn a trade, even though things have downturned a little.

Company I work for is so desperate for guys they've started offering us $500 for any friends we can get to come work for the company. Even the newest guys with no experience make $25/hr to start.

Might not be as glamorous as an office job, but maybe start looking outside the field you went to school for. There's good money if you're willing to put in some blood and sweat in blue collar jobs.

4

u/Uncle_Ted_1942 Jun 24 '26

I worked forestry until they cut all the jobs. The only construction jobs I’ve found within an hour of me was minimum wage laying concrete, or being the poor bastard holding the slow/stop sign.

5

u/gamercast1337 29d ago edited 29d ago

Bro, I went to a college course for a trade, everything you just said is straight cap. They just arent hiring in blue collar jobs either unless you are a red seal/journeyman/ have years of experience.

Edit: and before you ask its refrigeration & air conditioning, yes I did phenomenal in the course I took literally every additional chance to learn i could and build a great diverse skillset, got honours even got an award in the class. Yes I have been going in person to every business in the city I moved to to drop off resumes, cover letters everything. Ive emailed most of them and need to do a followup email in a few days (so I can get ignored again) yes I have gone to the government resources I can access for this and they are helping with what they can. Yes I have even started applying for general construction jobs, maintenance jobs everything jobs and nothing.

And I should mention most of the beginning wages for this field, besides the reallllly big unionized companies (in certain roles mind you) starting pay is like 18 an hour. You fucking try to live on 18 an hour.

The trades, bluecollar etc is a scam and im tired of people saying thats where the money is. It isnt.

The only money left to make is to be like a fucking horse cop or other government goon.

7

u/hunterofsteelhead Jun 22 '26

Option 1 is make do with the firearms available Option 2 is move to a better country and possibly move back if Canada ever becomes a little free

5

u/gamercast1337 Jun 22 '26

I dont believe I have any marketable skills that would assist in moving to another country : ( and the skills i do have i cant turn in to marketable skills because I can't get a job in that trade

4

u/Glockinmytacklebox Jun 23 '26

Become a English teacher! I’ve been thinking about leaving to, so I can get a house one day somewhere. I Won’t ever be able to get a house here and have no education beyond high school. But I speaka da engrish

2

u/gamercast1337 Jun 23 '26

Genuinely did consider getting that like foreign teaching degree and teaching in places but when I did research it last year, the only place I could realistically do was like, Cambodia i think and thats because I dont have a 4 year degree. It seems almost everywhere else wants you to have a 4 year college/uni diploma just because??

3

u/Glockinmytacklebox Jun 23 '26

Yea same for me, unfortunately yea most countries want a 4 year degree of some sorts, I think Vietnam and laos were also an option. I’m Still considering laos

1

u/hunterofsteelhead Jun 22 '26

What do you do

4

u/gamercast1337 Jun 22 '26

Just finished college for a trade, with incredible marks, went above and beyond doing competitions in the trade etc etc. Honours, awards, did it all. No one in this field is hiring, and the ones that are hiring dont seem to want me as i am just a year 1, no working experience within the trade beyond what I got from the course.

Probably going to have to go with my previous career experience of security/law enforcement. Hate me all yall want here (I even hate myself for doing it) but I applied for the pony patrol since that genuinely seems like the only option for me to escape poverty at this point and make something for myself. at least I got like a year until id get in to the rcmp to change my mind so its a backup option.

But at this current rate my "in demand trade" especially where the government is freaking out about how in demand this trade and any trade in particular is, doesnt appear to actually BE in demand.

3

u/hunterofsteelhead Jun 22 '26

What trade is it? And canada is a smaller market wouldnt you have better options somewhere better?

→ More replies (7)

1

u/hunterofsteelhead Jun 22 '26

I do think youre in demand. Every fall when I turn my furnace on I have another damn problem and end up calling one of you guys I think I met every hvac man in my area and every part replaced on my furnace. They are always swamped and making a killing.

2

u/gamercast1337 Jun 23 '26

Red seals are wuite in demand, seems like every company i look in to is wanting to get another redseal but not a single one wants to actually MAKE a red seal. I have come across like 2 postings for apprentices, and a never-ending list of journeyman redseals.

Literally not possible to become a journeyman if I can never begin the journey.

1

u/Longjumping_Deer3006 Jun 23 '26

Man I wish handguns were legal… I want my 1911

15

u/gamercast1337 Jun 23 '26

Sorry buddy but gangbangers, criminals and those hitmen need their guns more than you do. For them it's a way of life to have, for you, well its essentially terrorism.

3

u/Late_Winner6859 Jun 23 '26

Tbh, I am ok with them being illegal for couple more years. Can’t really afford going on another buying spree at the moment 😔

25

u/rastamasta45 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

I’m honestly at the stage where I don’t care what they ban, go ahead and ban everything, start a confiscation regime for the handguns while you’re at it, who cares anymore. I’m not giving my shit up and millions of others also decided not to.

I’m holding my lawfully obtained property until we get a sane government back in parliament. Until then a massive 🖕🏾to the LPC, demented chipmunk and provolone.

I don’t give a shit anymore, and they can’t enforce shit either. My property, now fuck off government, no one even takes you seriously anymore

26

u/DoYouGetSarcasm Jun 25 '26

I feel like poly could have used this tragedy to show a win for gun control, to say "look, the bans are working, only 1 person killed by a gunman!". They could have said gun control is working because this guy didn't have a very capable gun/magazines. They could have highlighted how this evil gunman's terrible deeds killed as many people as the police's little oopsie that's getting swept under the rug.

But it's poly, the act of pushing for more control is what sustains them. There's never enough, there's no end point, just more more more.

19

u/kookiemaster Jun 25 '26

I think the only acceptable scenario for them is that no guns whatsoever can be privately owned, regardless of the model, make, intended use, etc. Basically it is a crusade rather than a logical request for rules.

4

u/Beneficial-Ride-4475 Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

Correct, and if I am not mistaken all the reasonable individuals in Poly were kicked out because they weren't hardline enough no?

3

u/Lumindan 28d ago

No one in Poly was ever reasonable.

They have made a career out of it. They can’t stop. If they were a group that ever existed in good faith they would have pushed the firearms act and that’s that. Now if they were to still exist in that hypothetical they would only be demanding a return of the LGR. But they never existed in good faith. Or if they did those days are long gone.

21

u/rastamasta45 Jun 22 '26

1 cop dead in a shooting in Montreal, 3 others wounded. I don’t get it, once the buyback is complete all these shooting will stop right 🤔 s/

10

u/someMSPworker Jun 22 '26

Looks like he used an SKS

11

u/someMSPworker Jun 22 '26

Confirmed now.

15

u/IntrepidKitchen5322 Jun 22 '26

Greeeaaatttt. Just takes one nut case to potentially ruin it for us all.

4

u/Uncle_Ted_1942 Jun 23 '26

Prévost frothing at the mouth to say that the govt isn’t doing enough and needs to force things through for our safety. She’ll say it with crocodile tears in her eyes to make them feel bad so she gets what she wants.

2

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Jun 24 '26

All that said I think it’s still too much of a logistics nightmare to actually ban. It’ll get memory holed just like tumbler ridge.

IMO the carney government doesn’t really have their hearts in this whole public safety thing.

They’re cutting public safety jobs, environmental protections, and social programs that would actually help more people than their gun control portfolio ever would. They could’ve reduced operational spending in other areas (like scrapping the buyback) but they didn’t, so I don’t think they give a rat’s booty cheeks about us, our safety or wellbeing, or about stopping tragedies like this.

Someones got the right idea:

Ukraine Debates Liberalizing Civilian Gun Ownership

https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/ukraine-debates-liberalizing-civilian-gun-ownership-44828395

23

u/WeightedDips95 Jun 23 '26

It’s crazy how fast governments start respecting citizens rights to keep arms when it’s so they can potentially die to protect their rackets

8

u/InitialAd4125 Jun 23 '26

Hell it's even cost effective but nope. It's funny you see this in two cases one when the nation treats it's people like people and not like chattel like say Switzerland. And then when they are threatened.

9

u/WeightedDips95 Jun 23 '26

Yup. And they’re too dumb to realize if they provide citizens with the bare minimum of respect that they’ll be willing to fight and die of their own accord. I won’t even entertain it when people say “well with drumpfler threatening our Democracy the libs should be giving us our guns back”. Nor would I if I was in Ukraine. I ain’t dying for no one’s golden toilets.

10

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 23 '26

The government can unban all the guns from the OIC list and legalize CC. It would still take them fundamentally changing at the core for me to support the liberals. Which so far the core values seem to be bailing out coffin condo companies, trying to break up Air Canada strikers, pushing through spy bills. The list goes on. When they finally start to respect and actually care about people is when I will fight for the Courtney of Canada rather then just against the invading force. As remember. You can fight against something without fighting for something.

10

u/InitialAd4125 Jun 24 '26

Exactly why the fuck would I die for Canada? Like what has it honestly given me that I can't point out that it was actually stolen for via taxes? Like everyone says shit like roads and hospitals but the government didn't magic those into existence they paid for it with our extortion money I mean taxes. And what the fuck good is a lot of the shit they "provide us" when they refuse to provide the basics and waste our money on unwinnable wars that go against human nature. War on drugs, war on sex work, war on guns. Endless wars against letting people control themselves and live there life's how they see fit. They'll gladly throw our money at that but you want housing, a job, food, hospitals that don't make you wait forever you know shit you actually need in order to survive. Sorry government can't afford it. Bull fucking shit the sheer amount they waste on these unwinnable wars could easily pay for, or at least heavily subsides these things that it could damn well feed every or almost every Canadian in this nation.

Government: Modern sporting arms are too dangerous for civilians to use, despite training, vetting, and licensing.

Also the government: Here is a legit assault rifle.

10

u/rastamasta45 25d ago

Lool slight correction

“Here’s a maybe legit assault rifle…..while supplies last”

8

u/zulu_tango73 25d ago

Gotta be some original C7s kicking around somewhere! Maybe an FN or two?

7

u/rastamasta45 25d ago

They better be pinned to 5! Otherwise too dangerous

1

u/brokenringlands 22d ago

My regiment had FN 's in the 'vault' right up until 2003, when I released. I don't have a count, but probably enough to equip a section and roleplay 80's gear?

Anyway, every once in a while, i still think about if they still have them.

3

u/Late_Winner6859 25d ago

1

u/Office_Responsible 21d ago

From what I’ve read it’s going to be left over C7’s and C8’s after the transition to the C25 and C26 over the next couple years. It would be funnier if it was clapped out pre-WW1 guns though

Makes it easier for the emergencies act to be invoked over some BS and then MRes gets deployed into non ruling party provinces and areas.

Watch, if theres nothing to fear monger for 2029's election and guarantee another 40 years in office (lets be real, saying a con govt is only a matter of time is pure copium), they might just decide why bother with one? After all, they have already tested and got away with backroom dealing into 4 years while ignoring the results of an election. All to operate with a mandate they were not given by the people. They will 1000% do it again if need be.

And before someone says that they have to call an election, I ask you, who would genuinely stand up against such a move? Sure it can be written that they have to. But lets say they dont. Who holds them to account? The governor general? The population? The CAF? The Mounties? Not a chance in hell on any of those. A weak country populated by weak people.

Guarantee you the elbows up crowd would applaud not having an election again if it meant keeping jesus, i mean carney, in office forever. Afterall, he has such a strong hand on the chess board and whispers the sweetest nothings into my ear at bed time. Why wouldn't we want that forever?

8

u/Due-Candidate4384 25d ago

I feel like this country has completed its descent into total madness and will stay firmly at the bottom of that abyss. Even the CPC carry on like it’s business as usual as utter lunacy runs rampant through all our major institutions. Canada is irrevocably fucked.

5

u/Natural_Comparison21 24d ago

The only thing we would get from the CPC is maybe our guns back. That’s it. That’s the only thing. Everything else they would be at the same levels of the liberals for. Just a different flavour of shit.

3

u/RydNightwish 24d ago

That would still be one or twenty things more than I have now depending on units banned vs the whole.

Either way though, it really only matters to people foolish enough to vote, assuming they get that option in 29. My days of voting are done as its a pointless waste of time.

3

u/Due-Candidate4384 24d ago

Well I’m sure C-69 would be shit-canned too but who knows if the CPC would have the stomach to put up with the fucking screeching from the idiots who think Canada has a meaningful role in climate change. I only care about the guns at this point though. Canada is too broken to be meaningfully fixed in any other department.

4

u/Natural_Comparison21 24d ago

Quite frankly I think the world is. We literally have let billionaires ruin the planet so they can have a little bit more fucking gold shavings on their food. We have let rich pedos go virtually unpunished. It’s disgusting behaviour and quite frankly why I am a prepper. This shit isn’t sustainable and won’t last.

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Jun 22 '26

u/HappyCan7250 Jun 24 '26

Anyone else seeing the bullshit "Getting Ahead" government propaganda ad constantly on TV? I wonder how many of our tax dollars are being spent to play it literally non stop on TV.

It's just another one of the LPCs propaganda ads about how they're "helping you get ahead by cutting taxes, removing fuel surcharges, and investing in.... stuff!"

When im in bed watching tv I literally sometimes see it play 5 or 6 times in 2 hours. It's literally just the LPC using government funds to make party propaganda about how great they are for blessing us with tiny little token actions, and yet we probably paid millions to make the ad, and millions more to blast it on cable 20 times a day. (Yes, I still watch cable TV).

It actually makes me mad to see. If they were actually doing anything helpful or meaningful, they wouldn't need to run 20 ads a day telling us how great they are. It's straight up LPC propaganda.

Not to mention the bullshit "we're building canada strong!" Ads they ran for months before this one.

These ads are meant to be GOVERNMENT ads, to my knowledge, LPC is not supposed to be using public PSAs as party ads basically, because they're using public money to run them not party funds, yet the ads are FILLED with LPC slogans.

The liberals genuinely have rigged the system so much, and bent all the rules to make it incredibly hard for any other party to ever win again. They have billions of dollars available to pump out LPC propaganda 24/7 now.

Even under Trudeau at least the Government of Canada TV ads had some degree of professionalism and didn't feel like straight party propaganda. These ads almost felt like something the CCP would play on TV for their citizens, or the USSR, telling their citizens how great their dear leader is.

12

u/GinnAdvent Jun 24 '26

Have you seen how the Global is trying to frame the Montreal shooting incident?

Montreal shooting suspect manifesto aligns with incel movement, experts say

The entire comment section basically calls out on the Global because that not what the suspect described in his manifesto

11

u/InitialAd4125 Jun 24 '26

I find it funny how private media keeps comment sections open but our government funded one the one we are all forced to pay for keeps it closed for pretty much everything they post.

4

u/GinnAdvent Jun 24 '26

Some Global and CTV comment section are surprisingly still open for comment. The one I notice turned off mostly from CBC.

7

u/InitialAd4125 Jun 24 '26

Yep the one we're forced to pay for. The one you'd think should always have the comments open on.

9

u/Kaffarov .40 Salt&Walnuts Jun 24 '26

I hate the line “experts say” as if it’s to discourage other thoughts on the subject than what is presented.

7

u/GinnAdvent Jun 24 '26

I think it's done to establish a premise in the social media landscape. Who ever show up and stick the flag first.

However, because the manifesto is easily found online and the presence of it basically raise more creditability issues that MSM hold.

Though I would assume that older generation or people don't use social media would not have access to it and it kind of becomes a time of attrition. How much people's narrative can we cinch before they have been informed otherwise.

9

u/LordRaizer Jun 24 '26

something something a lie told a thousand times becomes truth

5

u/InitialAd4125 Jun 24 '26

No shockingly I don't think I get any federal ads besides maybe the nuclear power one? I mostly get the Ontario Corp ads which also piss me off because it's like come on I've seen this ad well over a dozen fucking times I'm not joining and you showing this same ad again and again makes me want to join even less now.

6

u/HappyCan7250 Jun 24 '26

Ontario corp? Never heard of it. Im out in BC. Maybe Carney is just spamming us with these ads to try and stop the blue wave that's coming next provincial election (hopefully). Last polling I heard had CPBC at 47% and polling to win something like 2/3 of the provincial seats. Would be nice to get a proper leader out here who will stand up to the feds. Honestly, a baked potato would probably win against David Eby at this point. He's delusional.

17

Am I wrong for thinking the government doesn't actually want to fix real gun crime(or any crime) because they would have to actively go after their own voter base? People in the cities doing hood rat shit don't vote conservative.

8

u/Sharp_Phrase_9066 29d ago

you are right, they never wanted to fix gun crime, it's all about the votes

14

u/Goliad1990 29d ago

I don't think people in the cities doing hood rat shit vote at all.

The olds are their voter base, and while they do clap for prohibition and other assorted authoritarianism (as "proud Liberals", hilariously), the government mostly does this shit out of naked self-interest. The political class doesn't benefit from armed serfs with privacy rights.

9

u/Lumindan Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

Am I wrong for thinking the government doesn't actually want to fix real gun crime(or any crime) because they would have to actively go after their own voter base?

I think it's more that tackling the border is a very difficult task because it would pressure groups that the government doesn't want to touch with a 1000 ft pole.

Not to mention it would require real work. It's easiest to punish legal gun owners because it's an easy win and creates the illusion of public safety. The liberals frankly don't care about crime (they've blocked practically every conservative bill towards it).

People in the cities doing hood rat shit don't vote conservative.

I think criminals who do gangster stuff don't vote period. The same way they don't respect firearms laws.

The Liberals love a good PR cycle and thier base loves seeing CBC talk about getting guns off the streets.

It's just a strong wedge.

All he was saying was how the rcmp or some Quebec police people are investigating and they’ll see what happens. Same thing they said after tumbler ridge and then let everyone move on

BUTTT he did mention “new firearms coming in to the market”. Mk15 and Carmel mentioned? And apparently this new system is going to be “expert led”. Please don’t just be Poly making and passing laws. And towards the end of the video he just deflected by saying LPC is making more bail reform and stuff.

In French he said “when it comes to banning some firearms we are currently changing that process. We’re looking at reform”

3

u/Beneficial-Ride-4475 Jun 26 '26

What is there to reform!? They basically ignore the Firearms Act anyway...

6

u/LordRaizer Jun 25 '26

Maybe, but I don't think so, he's deferring responsibility to the RCMP for this issue, and the RCMP already submitted the FRT. And also, the court case for the OIC challenge is ongoing too, so any bans will probably be in a year or two (but also, I'm copemaxxing pretty hard rn as well)

But like you said, memory holed because of the female officer shooting the civilian, he basically sidestepped it in the interview

9

u/LordRaizer Jun 25 '26

He gave a combination of a word-salad and non-answer, basically a lot of "umm" and "ahh" thrown around, deferring responsibility to the RCMP

So I'm not exactly sure tbh

14

u/rastamasta45 Jun 25 '26

Truthfully I think he dodged it and closed the book, he gave enough to shut the reporter and left it at that. The second video CCFR posted, he mentioned “well we have a court case so we need to see the decision sometime next year and then see how we can work within the law because we need to ensure that”

Literally said “let’s wait next year” I honestly think they’ll burry it. It’s not popular, the current regime is an abject failure and they can’t even muster the money to do it.

I pray I’m not huffing hopium, but it really came off as deflection and “we don’t want to do this again”

8

u/boozefiend3000 Jun 25 '26

Let’s hope🤞🏻

1

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears 27d ago

Nope I think this is exactly it. In those same videos he’s starting to touch on some of their other promises and crime policies that are more popular with voters right now (and popular within this sub even).

I think they’re preparing to pivot to a more popular stance. Gracefully so as to not ruffle feathers.

6

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 25 '26

Along with Poly crying about the SKS not being banned. As Berry Bee Benson would say “Maybe this time, maybe this time.”

11

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Jun 23 '26

Gun stores are gonna make a killing off all this SKS panic buying…I say as I contemplate panic buying an SKS

6

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 23 '26

Had one sold it… Or did I? Na I sold it. Its a milsurp rifle. Much like the Lee enfield or mosin. The one reason people like it is because it’s semi auto centre fire and for a long time it was cheap as shit. I can guarantee you that the hype for them in Canada would decline if all the OIC guns were legal again.

3

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Jun 24 '26

Most definitely.

I only have one…but I’ve might’ve sold it to Jim at the marina down the road.

I really only want two, a shooter that I can drop into a hush holster (my current is a non parts matching rifle that came in the ATI stock, part way restored currently), and the other perfectly preserved because I think the history of the rifle is neat.

Same with a Garand, though I would only preserve a beaut like that.

11

u/IronLover64 Jun 23 '26

The BYD Atto 3 rear suspension comes with a set of silencers. Would this car be legal to drive in Canada?

9

6

u/InitialAd4125 Jun 23 '26

Join me together we will push for Quebec separatism for those outside of Quebec who want to kick Quebec out there are dozens of us./s

13

u/rastamasta45 Jun 23 '26

It’s truly remarkable how they don’t listen to themselves and see how moronic they sound. It’s been 10 years, 4 bans and $2 billion dollars spent and yet we still have shootings. We still have cops getting killed and their only answer is the same stupid policies that aren’t preventing anything.

We’re a clown country run by clown politicians, 🤦🏽

4

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 23 '26

At this point it felt like empty words. Their was no substance behind it apart from maybe calls for municipalities to have more controls over firearms policy? Which idk how that would have stopped this shooting as the perp was not even in the same province.

8

u/Reasonable_Hall2346 Jun 23 '26

As if the handgun ban stopped the killings of the Ontario officers… fucking Montreal and Quebec in general.

7

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 23 '26

I saw the video and it's the most word salad shit imaginable. The most flattering translation of what she said I could mange to scrape together was something along the lines of.

"We need to respect hunters and ingenious people but also have to get a control on guns in cities like Montreal." Which is like... How fucking clueless can you be? This person came from you guessed it... Alberta. So how do you control somebody's access to guns from Alberta when you only control Quebec? Like the argument she might be presenting is for more controls at a provincial or municipal level which nobody wants to see happen. Even the federal government has pretty much stated they don't want to do fucking municipal individual laws and shit. It felt like such a vague nothing burger that it felt like she was just saying empty words to please a voting base.

6

u/Beneficial-Ride-4475 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

As I said in the main Canada sub. What the mayor is suggesting with this comment, is in effect, saying there is a need for provincial licensing and restricting and monitoring gun owner's movements. What, are we going to prohibit gun owners from entering other provinces now? Post guards and inspectors at provincial borders? Because that's what it would theoretically take to stop a copycat event.

3

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 24 '26

Yep. The shooter didn’t come from even in the same province. They came from out of province. So they would essentially have to do provincial border security which would cost a arm and a leg and do very little at stopping crime. I don’t even think the liberals would want to touch that or many provinces.

3

u/kookiemaster Jun 25 '26

To me it's a mental health failing rather than a gun control one.

It also kind of shows how silly the questions are on the PAL applications are ... people who have insight, get help and are honest get scrutinized, but those that don't, well, they can just answer no and get a free pass.

9

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 24 '26

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winfield_massacre Just a reminder to anyone who thinks that a mass shooting requires a perp to use a 'modern firearm'. Keep in mind in America the average mass shooting kills under 4 people. This shooting is on par with some of the deadlist mass shootings in modern American history https://www.statista.com/statistics/476101/worst-mass-shootings-in-the-us/?srsltid=AfmBOooVx4C23ejGX6JiwdfQJu4YP5FR5vT8Se33XcABgu52jOkNXOve. Keep in mind if you added shootings going back before this you will find only two shootings in the 70s in America which were responsible for killing more people, 1 in the 60s, zero in the 50s and only two in the 40s. Which one of the shootings in the 40s the perp literally used a .22 LR semi auto rifle.

The point of this? To remind everyone here that it doesn't matter what firearm someone uses. Which I know preaching to the choir this is more so just for you to have a source to back up your claim.

25

u/rastamasta45 Jun 22 '26

I actually have been reading through some of the manifesto and seeing what some news bodies are pushing vs what's on their (it's very scrambled for lack of a better word) is pretty funny.

7

u/GinnAdvent Jun 24 '26

I went through some comments on different subs, I would say that the content of the manifesto itself generate a lot of debate.

Not that it really amount to anything and it doesn't justify the shooters ill intent but it's more relatable to some of the readers since it drag some of the ongoing issues into the limelight.

And of course it's distributed to several media so there is no way that the MSM can censor this one out.

So is the footage of innocent bystander got shot that MSM keep on skipping over during the shootout.

These things also supposedly depreciate faster than western EVs, so if you get a second hand one with low mileage, it can be an absolute bargain

7

u/IronLover64 Jun 22 '26

Also, the Geely EX2, MG4, and BYD Seagull are 13k CAD in China and the only cars that are 7k CAD are the Wuling micro cars. If you want an average sedan like a Seal 06 or SUV like a Sealion 05, you're looking at paying around 22.8k - 32k CAD for the China price. Higher end cars like the BYD Han start at 37k CAD. It's still a bargain compared to the Canadian car market as far as high end cars go, but it's not like you can get a brand new EV land yacht for the price of a beater.

You can buy western cars and western phones in China with no problem. They aren't common, but I've seen a handful of Ford F-150s when I visited. Plenty of people also use iPhones there too. Despite making up around half the cars I saw in China, most ICE cars there are also made by a foreign brand like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, VW, Toyota, Honda, occasionally American cars like Ford, Chevy, and Cadillac.

2

u/HappyCan7250 Jun 22 '26

I believe the Chevy Equinox starts at 32k for a north American built EV. Also some Kia's (ICE) are around 25k CAD. The Chinese EVs won't be much cheaper than the cheapest existing options, although may have a few more options than a base model from a conventional brand.

2

u/IronLover64 Jun 22 '26

Plus, an EV is cheaper to run and maintain than an ICE. Battery replacements are also much rarer than they used to be, and watching some of the AI translated Chinese EV repair videos I see online, a lot of the cars the shops get have around 300k km. That's probably more than the Kia ICE cars can do without crapping out. I dunno if they're as reliable as Toyotas and Hondas in our climate and salted roads, but it's not like you can get a new Toyota with Chinese EV prices anyway with the dealer upcharges.

2

u/Nilotaus Jun 23 '26

I dislike EV's for the same reason I dislike modern ICE vehicles: Enshittification.

Everything from UI/UX to repairability. EV's just got a head-start compared to petroleum-fueled vehicles slowly getting to the point where you need to lift the fucking body in order to change a headlight.

I heaviliy dislike the big screens on many EV's that replace dashboard instruments, on top of touch-controls replacing physical buttons & dials which are objectively safer to use while operating a vehicle. But that's also not entirely specific to EV's either.

2

u/IronLover64 Jun 23 '26

Yeah the enshittification of EVs in terms of repairability isn't pretty. If something gets under your car while you're driving somehow and punctures the battery, it's a pain in the ass to replace: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DYyZwurIr-B/

But also, depending on the fault, replacing an electronic part can be the price of a literal peanut: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DXtiZQPDT80/

I dunno about other cars, but this BYD Seagull (13k CAD in China) seems to have headlights you can replace without lifting up the car: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Z8_uAw7sogU

As well as the BYD Seal U: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/1GcCNPmj0d4

I haven't watched the full video, but it looks like it's possible to repair these EVs even in a head-on collision: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxSXpelkw0Q Although I have no idea how well the repair in the video is done (I'll let you be the judge). Bad repairs can be the cause of your EV exploding or shitting out on the road like you see in all those videos on social media.

I'm kinda surprised there are this many videos about Chinese EV repairs online, not gonna lie.

Also, apologies for the annoying AI dubbing in the instagram videos. Those are all I can find that are in english and explain the process.

Some news sites are reporting this as an ambush and apparently there was a manifesto sent to news outlets. Beyond that it’s currently speculation while they search for a possible second shooter.

We’ll probably find out more in the coming days after an initial investigation.

13

u/gamercast1337 Jun 22 '26

Poly must be so excited at this, getting to use a dead cop to push their agenda (while they never have to deal with day to day life in their gated communities) . Wonder if it was a for lack of better word loser incel-esque manifesto or a Islamic manifesto. Both of these seem to be happening more and more and yet they dont want to deal with the root causes of it(hint the root causes arent guns).

8

u/Draxish Jun 22 '26

I hate to speculate but given the location and where the dudes from it’ll be either politically motivated or have to do with anti-semitism.

7

u/gamercast1337 Jun 22 '26

Wonder if its going to be too politically inconvenient to talk about like the school shooting a few months ago. Im not joking, and its a horrible thing to say, but that will be our saving grace.

If the shooter is an Islamist (especially if an immigrant), then the government needs to address that and they do NOT want to address this.

9

u/I-LOVE-HENRY-RIFLES Jun 22 '26

u/Flat-Dark-Earth Big Bore Specialist Jun 22 '26

Appears to have only targeted the cops though, called it in and ambushed them on arrival.

11

u/gamercast1337 Jun 22 '26

So cops have killed more civilians in this shooting than the shooter did?

10

u/Draxish Jun 22 '26

Yea looks like the case. Apparently the dude is from Alberta. We’ll probably find out more if any info about the manifesto he sent to the press gets released.

Looks like a neo nazi attempting a mass shooting

He was a tankie/neo-Stalinist of some sort. From what I've read in his manifesto, he was super anti-capitalist (fair enough), despised Russian oligarchs (justifiable), and admired the USSR as a healthy and most importantly, monogamous country (which is... interesting).

These are all things I would expect from a tankie. It's ticking all the boxes.

But then things get weird.

He starts going on about hypergamy (gold digging), pimps, and other ideas that he has woven into his ideology. Honestly, it's so scatterbrained.

3

u/gamercast1337 Jun 23 '26

Hate to say it but its a fair response to idolize that shit when you see what capitalism has given us now (hint a broken society, no one able to afford anything, essentially in the end game of pillaging and scamming what you can before it collapses) and you try to tell me someone whos mentally unwell because they could never make it in life due to all of these things going agaisnt them wouldnt think this way? Im not saying everyone who thinks like this is going to go out and shoot at cops or people like this, I find it absolutely horrendous that it got to this point BUT this is what happens when someone who was once reasonable has nothing left.

I guarantee you if this guy had a house, a loving partner, kids, a job he liked (didnt even need to be high paying) and just felt successful in life he would never even have a thought like this cross his mind. But as more and more people are unable to achieve any of these things in life, this is going to happen more and more. More violence, more lashing out.

Society is unwell, people cannot handle this, they cant even try to ignore societies problems by having a job that can pay the bills and let them at least live somewhat, with cost of living becoming completely impossible. So the one last way to feel like you achieved sometbing is gone.

This is not a gun issue, this has never BEEN a gun issue. This is a (purposeful) collapse of society by pushing people to the brink.

And this will keep happening until the actual changes needed are done. But no one wants to face that as we would need to undo or change a massive part of the last 100+ years of society. Boomers especially would feel attacked (as they should they let this happen the most). Myself and so many others warned in particular about how the way we responded to covid would lead to an explosion within the next 5ish years in despair, anxiety, suicide, and these large lashing out at society we see here. All to give the older generations a few more minutes in the sun at the sacrifice of thr younger. But we were ignored.

Sorry for the schizo rant but just be safe out there. There will be more of these attacks to follow. Learn to fight , how to defend yourself, and get skills to survive on your own if needed. Better to be a warrior in the garden than a gardener in a war.

I mean yeah, but let's be clear here, capitalism is the system we got. Yes, I agree with your statement about how capitalism pillages once reasonable economies, how it bastardizes the things we hold dearly for profit, and how is scamms and cons us into believing everything is fine. But it is the economic we have.

Despite what you or I believe most people (including the majority on this sub) still like, or even outright love capitalism, to some degree or another. Any plan to change this is going to have to work within those bounds. It sucks, but acknowledging it is going to have to be a first step forward and anyone challenging the status quo. Really to achieve what you are suggesting, we would need a throughly "radicalized" social democratic party (I don't think the NDP is that), with likes of FDR, Truman, Tommy Douglas, Olaf Palme, and Clement Attlee at the helm. Furthermore, we would need a Bretton Woods 2.0, the system which built the post war era.

That's a tall order.

and you try to tell me someone whos mentally unwell because they could never make it in life due to all of these things going agaisnt them wouldnt think this way? Im not saying everyone who thinks like this is going to go out and shoot at cops or people like this, I find it absolutely horrendous that it got to this point BUT this is what happens when someone who was once reasonable has nothing left.

And that's the real kicker isn't it? The people in power don't care (because they benefit), and the average, regular person, would rather consume and consume some more, then cover their eyes and pretend there isn't a problem until it effects them personally. I do have to give credit to corporate and marketing, they've brainwashed us good.
