Well, having been to Napanee gun works. I prefer SFRC or Bronson and Bronson. NGW never had much of interest, and they were in fucking Napanee. Which is out of the way for everything. Since Bronson and Bronson remain open, as does SFRC. I dont think Trudeau had anything to do with this shitty little gun store closing, especially since i never saw them carry anything note worthy from the ban list. 𤷠how's that for ill informed.

Tenda and G4C are packed with customers; actually, all the Toronto gun stores are busy.
Sure, perhaps they have fewer items to sell, but business seems brisk.
I'm not so sure the gun ban specifically killed their businessāthere are still a lot of niche areas they could have tapped into, like 10/22 parts, precision rifle parts, shotgun modifications, or various other goods, gadgets, and gear that are only available in the US market.
18
u/AdditionalLoss7274 Apr 21 '26
Reliable Gun just opened up a second store as well. I'm business must be good. Somehow. I can barely afford to eat, not sure how people are affording guns and ammo. Credit, must be.

Ruger pcc carbine. Kodiak type 81 every bullpup shotgun jr carbines and few others. They carried now banned guns

I never saw Kodiak or type 81s there. But a lack of diversity is still a failure on their part. I could never find ammo i was looking for there either.

Yeah, they specialized in high turnover black guns and nothing else.
Almost like stores that are ingrained in all types of shooting sports/hunting are more resilient.

u/AcanthisittaNo7338 Apr 21 '26
More specifically, turknisium shotguns where their favorites. The few times I went in there that was 99% of their stock. No other hunting gear, no other outdoor gear, not even boxes of clay pigeons. Just Turkish bullpups.

u/Johnsnowookie Apr 21 '26
They had plenty to choose from before the bans, including handguns, now the only place to get ammo in Napanee, is crappy tire. Which sucks donkey balls

If anything, thank the people in this sub who voted PPC in the previous election - without splitting the right, we would have had a Conservative government in that session, and none of this shit would have happened.
Max Bernier did as much damage here as Trudeau.
10
u/BackToTheCottage Apr 21 '26
They've gone quiet but during the Trudeau and even Harper years they did a lot of gaslighting that "no one is after your guns" and that actually Harper was antigun. I could name em but mods don't let us.

There are still a lot of people saying there's no guarantee Pierre would change anything to excuse voting for a government actively trying to take their guns.
41
u/julienjj Apr 21 '26
Or perhaps lay the blame where it should sit. Pierre is incompatible with winning. The rhetoric he brings is simply incompatible with a majority of voters, to the point where NDP voters and others actually defers to the libs.
The conservative have the same issue the PQ has. The stronger they hold the more extreme positions to please the base, the further they get from winning the election.

PP did the damage himself by not conserving anything - he didn't even win his own seat (and you can't blame the PPC for that because they didn't even have a candidate in that riding). He can't just agree with the liberals on every major issue except 2 and call himself conservative, then blame another party for having a better platform that's more appealing to informed voters lol. Carney just adopted the same moderate liberal policies and made Poilievre entirely irrelevant (and has now secured himself a majority government).
I vote for platforms, not colours, and PP's platform was liberal. Just look at all the aisle-crossers and try to tell me any of them were ever conservative in the first place.
(This is not to say that PPC is ideal, but they were a better conservative party than the current CPC which I desperately hope will get their act together soon).
0
u/greendoh Apr 21 '26
That seat was lost in the election after the one I'm referring to. In the most recent election the PPC wasn't a factor. Not disagreeing that PP is shit, but my vote goes to the party that has the highest probability of letting me keep my guns. Simple as that.
Max wanted revenge against the conservatives, and he got that by splitting the vote. Never had a chance of winning let alone holding a seat.
So "conservative" gun owners that hate PP fell into PPC voters or abstained from voting at all and voila Trudeau was elected again, the rest is history.
We aren't a big enough community to throw our political voices away on fringe candidates because they didn't pander to some nonsense uber-right chemtrails kind of nonsense.
2
u/RandVanRed Apr 21 '26

6
u/greendoh Apr 21 '26
I mean there is a reason for that... It's because the Liberals are bad and they took my guns.
Hurr..
0
u/RandVanRed Apr 21 '26
Good job! You managed to express yourself without insulting anyone.
3
u/greendoh Apr 21 '26
Honestly - I don't see any point in insulting anyone anymore..
The whole concept of left vs right and the left being anti this / right being anti that - it's all a bullshit distraction designed to keep us away from the real problem with our world - greedy billionaires.
The left needs to be more pro-gun, especially marginalized groups like LGBTQ.
Personally the conservative party does not generally match my broad politics, but the party that wants to disarm me isn't my friend.
And no - Carney isn't going to force us into camps - but the government 4 terms down the line may.
I need to keep my guns so I can protect my family and friends - which includes a ton of LGBTQ folk.

You can vote for a party and not agree with everything they do. I doubt there are many voters for any party that 100% agree with every aspect of their governance. Guns owners are a large group of people who will prioritize gun ownership at the ballot box differently. Iāve voted for both main parties federally throughout my life and Iād be surprised if I was ever happy with 60% of what they were doing.

u/SniperTeamTango Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

I don't like that. I have been put in a position where I have to trade my ownership of guns for healthcare but guess what? That's the situation. And you know what else? When are the PCS going to start taking accountability for not running a candidate that has not been total dog shit.Ā

0
u/SniperTeamTango Apr 22 '26
It was an easy target example chosen so that most people could understand because nuance seems completely lost in this conversation these days.Ā
I was comfortable not voting for Pierre because his entire platform was I'm not going to do what the Liberals did which gives an entirely new collection of options to fuck up.
Personally, as far as I am concerned, the fact that he is still in the party is an indictment of the fact that the conservatives are not as serious political party anymore cuz I wanted a reason to not vote for the Liberals but continually getting absolutely ridiculous options isn't going to cut it

Yeah just because garry repeated a talking point doesn't make it any more true. Even if he himself believes it.
7
u/Curious_Fail_3723 Apr 21 '26
That's fine. But that is what he said. Calling people names doesn't help anything.
-1
u/SadisticChipmunk Apr 21 '26
What talking point are you referring to? The Liberals themselves don't openly admit its for votes... So how is it a talking point?
A conservative talking point? That doesn't help the Liberals. And if the Conservatives officially came out and tried claiming it was to disarm the populace, they would look crazy, even if its true. And that WOULD help the Liberals.
I don't disagree with your premise that its to disarm us, however if that is ultimately their goal... the steps involved to get from here to full disarmament is WAY down the road, probably outside of our lifetimes... and our response wouldn't be any different than it is now.

u/IPSC_Canuck Apr 21 '26
This is exactly what the bans are hoping to achieve.
Removing firearms by attrition. Less shops to sell them, less coming in, less convenience for gun owners.
Friction.
12
u/StrongBreak2142 Apr 21 '26
And less people to get interested in firearms.
9

Brother, it is extremely obvious, just look at the scene of handguns in the country. The entire point of Bill C21 was to eliminate any future firearm owners from being able to own pistols. Once all the current pistol owners are dead, there will be zero pistols in the countryā¦
This is what they want, this has been Nathalie Provost plan since she started grifting 30 years ago. Itās always āafter you ban this weāll be happyā, but they are never satisfied, they will continue to lie to uninformed Canadians in order to gain support and money for their grift.
Itās absolutely disgusting, and it should be illegal for lobby groups to outright lie to the government in order to push their agenda.
8
u/SadisticChipmunk Apr 21 '26
The surprising thing I've found, is how many "liberals" (people who have voted liberal in the past, not necessarily staunch liberal supporters)... are going and getting their PAL etc now. They also have serious issues with the whole gun grab in general.
It's definitely had a different effect than they had originally anticipated.
1
u/diabeetussssss Apr 21 '26
Might be a bit of a pipe dream, but if enough liberals start seeing through this by getting their PAL and understanding the sport theyāve destroyed, perhaps somewhere down the line when Provost is long gone, there may be some hope that they become gun neutral at least. Maybe that Overton window will open up in the LPC in the future.
2
u/ProtoJazz Apr 21 '26
It definitely feels like the next election will be more conservative. Even the most recent one I feel like shifted a bit more conservative even if we didn't change parties. Which could be just coincidence, or a sign that in general what people want is changing. Maybe not fast, or all at once, but gradually changing none the less.
0
u/diabeetussssss Apr 22 '26
100%. I have no doubt that many moderate conservatives voted LPC and the firearms confiscation is a price to pay for Carney (really a red tory) as a preferred PM. Itās just really unfortunate that Carney is onside with the ideology of Provost rather than the data that shows gun control to this degree does not enhance public safety.
0
u/ProtoJazz Apr 22 '26
My area is so conservative, the last time elected an indipendant he was executed. So it's probably going to shift a bit more the other direction, but that's a bit of an outlier.

u/Apples_and_Overtones Your feet suck and so do you Apr 21 '26
And eventually, range closures as less people in the community to pay the membership fees, and residential areas "encroach" on range land.
1
u/stokedon Apr 21 '26
Speaking as someone who's actively looking for a range membership, if they shut down that would be on them. Multi year waitlists, having to know someone for multiple years before they'll vouch you and lots of other road blocks hurts new fire arm owners from becoming a larger segment. Not everyone wants to shoot on crown land with others who may not be completely safe.
0
u/StrongBreak2142 Apr 22 '26
You have a multi-year waitlist for a range membership? That is crazy!
0
u/stokedon Apr 22 '26
Theres 4 ranges within an hr drive that have multi year waitlists, random draws to ge invited to join and/or ranges requiring you to know someone for multiple years before they can vouch for your membership. Our indoor ranges are 25m max so rifles get old real quick. I just want a safe place to target shoot and happy to pay for it. I have multiple friends my age in the same situation.

Aside from the random gun bans, policy also made it way more expensive to sell parts. When you have to check PALs for misc parts, it increases the cost to do business.
17
u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26
Not only does it add time, there are now a non-insignificant number of people who do not believe it's actually a requirement now and will argue with you about it.
Like dude, I don't want your pal info to buy a magazine but the law requires it and I'm not interested in going to jail over it.
1
u/Reasonable_Hall2346 Apr 21 '26

-1
u/CorsicanMastiffStrip Apr 21 '26
I was caught off guard by the requirement last time I bought powder. But being retarded enough to argue with the people running the fucking shop should be an offence punishable by at least several slaps.
9
u/GoingBallistik Apr 21 '26
How does checking a PAL increase costs? The time it takes to check it?
11
u/thehuntinggearguy 3gun, Mapleseed, YouTuber, SlamFire Radio, Revolver-hater Apr 21 '26
0 additional time for a checkout turns into 2-5 minutes. Not just for guns mind you: mags, barrels, and slides all need a PAL check now.
Worst of all, it's for nothing. Most criminals just smuggle their guns in from the US and for the ones who are 3d printing them, these parts are still unregistered and not tracked.
14
u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) Apr 21 '26
So for us it takes about 2 minutes to check a PAL for parts and accessories, and about 5 minutes for a firearm due to the C-71 paperwork.
Before this bullshit it was about 30s.
That adds up and slows down shipping. It also requires the CFP site to actually work, which often it doesn't.

Before we only needed to verify the license for firearms, which took a couple of minutes. Just type in the PAL info and it says valid / invalid and we would verify the name and address on file matched the order.
Now we need to do this for certain components, and for firearms also generate a "reference number" on the CFP site, record it along with the shipping info and firearm info, and keep that log for 20 years.
1
u/tnetskniv Apr 21 '26
I'm curious, is there specific criteria for the format of the logs? This information is stored only by the retailer as I understand.
Say if a court were to subpoena the logs from retailers, are electronic ledgers in a certain format mandated by the government or can retailers use paper versions for example?

In the end the customer pays for it.
It's also a compounding issue in that if you have a manufacturer -> distributor -> dealer -> customer model of doing business, at each step the process for transferring is repeated.
As well, at the retail level it's really common for the pal verification to fail and needs more labor time to sort out. Usually someone just didn't enter their info properly, but also it's common for the site to just say you need to call in.
It's a needless burden when the old system was fine.

2
u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) Apr 21 '26
and the distributor isn't selling one 1 to a store Actually that's really common, especially for the smaller stores.
I never said this is what put the store out of business. It's going to be a combination of things, but rising costs are an issue for many. Every little bit matters.
The gun bans removing desirable products, the shit economy reducing spending money, rising costs on goods, tariffs, excess bureaucracy, payment processors refusing to do business with gun stores, rising insurance premiums.... It's a death by a thousand cuts for a lot of the gun shops that have gone out of business in the past couple years.
7
u/swift_gilford Apr 21 '26
100%. Remember a lot of retailers have two sides, brick and mortar and online. You essentially need an additional employee on deck to handle the checks (i.e. more money spent) or you use an existing employee which ties up their time and costs you more money because you are potentially serving less customers per hour which means less sales per hour.
Online sales are always running. So when people are making purchases for small items that now require pal verification after hours/closed days as soon as they come into the store someone now has to spend time running all that information vs actually working the floor/counter. God forbid system is down, or there is a typo in how a customer inputted their information - that compounds the time spent.
I've also seen this issue in the brick and mortar store. What used to be in a walk-in-and-pay is now a walk-in-and-wait because you need an attendant to actually run the check.

Presuming your staff are paid $20/hour, those 5 minutes add less than a percent to specific orders, and not to all orders.
You're assuming everything goes smoothly. The amount of times I've personally seen as well as had many lgs tell me how they can't verify a PAL because the buyer doesn't have the right email set up? And that's in person. Imagine going through a list of things from an off-hour online order and now you are going back and forth playing telephone/email tag with a customer.
We aren't saying the verification is the main contributor to the issues stores are having but i think you are understating how much these things can affect your day-to-day when it happens multiple times a day.
5
u/Brandon_awarea Apr 21 '26

This what kills me and is the absolute worst effect. The devastation on the family run businesses has been biblical, the gun industry contributed 2 billion to our GDP before the bans.
The libtards confirmed they did zero economics impact assessment before the bans (to which they did 3 more after)
Not only are they spending 2 billion plus on this wasteful confiscation but they also killed a 2 billion plus tax machine.
Leave it to the LPC to make less money while spending our remaining money and then expecting a thank you from us. Remember this is apparently our civic duty.
I fucking hate this country so much.

Honestly somewhat impressive how the liberals make me hate them more and more

maybe the reason this guy is closing is related to whatever education level you need to fail to mistake' i'll informed' for 'ill-informed'.

u/China_bot42069 Apr 21 '26
Same thing happened in my city Ā in AB. Wolverine gone, a family run shop for the last 50+ years is shutting down this week, and only place left is looking like it might close down too.Ā

u/Murray3-Dvideos Apr 21 '26
I hope your not implying RDSC is threatening to close ?
1
u/China_bot42069 Apr 21 '26
no i don't think they are threatening, last time i was in there the shelves and merchandise looked sparce

u/Admirable-Site7256 Apr 21 '26
This sucks but illiterate shit like this reallyyyy doesn't help our cause.
You own a business ffs, take a second to proofread and use some proper grammar and spelling.
4
u/boozefiend3000 Apr 21 '26
Grammar doesnāt help our cause? How fuckin smug and elite are these people that are gonna get turned off by some spelling mistakes?Ā
2
u/Garciliath Apr 22 '26
I have to agree, professionalism is a must when trying to fight for a cause. Otherwise you get dismissed as an iāll informed idiot

This last election was the last hope for many peopleā¦.
But do we want to say liberals elect themselves? Liberals import voters, they kept people dumb and lied. But did we say anything? Are we going to say anything? This is the destiny for who watches and doesnāt speak. We are doing this to ourselves.

u/Accomplished-Hat3753 Apr 21 '26
The last election was a huge hit but I had a bit of hope that it was a minority. Once one crossed the floor and then another I knew what was to come. Now I have lost all trust in democracy in Canada. I used to campaign for my local MP I will never do that again. I dont think any of them can be trusted.
I honestly dont see us having anything other than a Liberal government for a long long time unless something catastrophic happens.

I can see the Liberals winning 2029 and 2033 too, so 2037 is probably the soonest we get a CPC government, but by that time the bans will be solidified and irreversible.
2
u/Accomplished-Hat3753 Apr 21 '26
After everything the Liberals pulled prior to the last election I have no clue what it would take for Ontario/Quebec to vote against them. Complete economic collapse?

I am saying this is the most probable outcome.

u/GoGetInvolved Apr 22 '26
The most probable outcome a year and a half ago was a huge Conservative majority. Life comes at you fast in politics.

Instead of blaming āliberalsā blame the extreme right wing and the countries overwhelming negative reactions to it. The fault lies in the overall political landscape, not just the one party. People were ready to vote for āanything but Trudeauā and the conservatives gave you Polly boy lol
6
u/Spider-King-270 Apr 21 '26
Conservatives being āfar rightā is laughable and I see you have fallen for Reddit lies.
5
u/ONTZ28 Apr 21 '26
"The extreme right wing" and PP have nothing to do with these gun bans. They were rolled out several years ago by the liberal party. If anything, I'd say the way the bans were implemented helped launch their popularity.
It seems pretty cut and dry. Liberals implemented these bans. These bans cost him his livelihood. I'd be pretty upset if I were him. Wouldn't you be?

u/Primary_Judge Apr 21 '26
Clearly shows that you have no idea what Conservative stands for
14
u/VanillaHighlights Apr 21 '26
The general population doesn't have a strong understanding, separately, ofĀ the definitions and the policies Liberal or Conservative.
It's a team sport at this point, be real.

I feel like people who don't know how to spell and punctuate at a grade 5 level shouldn't own firearms. Maybe it's for the best.

What is even the point of this comment? I see by another post you made, you appear to be a firearms owner. Are you struggling to understand the import of this post and the issue this community is facing?

Some businesses blame everyone else but their own shitty business practices. Diversify or get left behind.
4
u/boozefiend3000 Apr 21 '26
How does a gun shop diversify in an ever shrinking market? Just not be a gun shop anymore?Ā
5
1
u/The_guy_mp Apr 21 '26
Change it up. Look at other posts that have outlined what they could have done. Gun shops near me have made the changes to keep going. What a dumb question you posed.
3
u/boozefiend3000 Apr 21 '26
Give me some examples of diversification for a gun shop. Youāre the one claiming they need to change in up, I wanna hear it from you, not going looking up claims you say others have postedĀ

u/The_guy_mp Apr 21 '26
Read up and down the other post on this thread and figure it out or phone Tenda and G4C maybe they can help you save your business.
