Quebec gun owners aren’t and have never been the problem but I appreciate your meme.

No, Quebec Gun Owners are not the problem, but they live in the same province where the problem exists.

Quebec, outside of Montreal and QC, isn't the problem.
22
u/sounoriginal13 Apr 07 '26
Same for ontario, its usually the city dwellers that have a hard time seeing the forest for the trees.
10
u/RydNightwish Apr 07 '26
Thats cus unless the tree is in a carefully managed city planter, most can't find a tree let alone the forest. Full stop.
9
u/SurtseyHuginn Apr 07 '26
There are many gun owners in montreal that have been targeted and are opposed to the bans like myself. Hell, we even had a bus convoy departing from montreal for the quebec city protest
6
u/5hane7rain Apr 07 '26
That's all well and good. For some reason its large cities that breed the anti gun sentiment. Being a gun enthusiast in a large city puts you in a very, very small minority. Keep fighting in the good fight.
2
u/stratocaster_blaster Apr 09 '26
It’s because they all see gun crime and can’t seem to separate the illegally purchased or smuggled firearms from those bought and owned by responsible, vetted, trained, and licensed firearm owners.
4
u/Thereal_Stormm006 Apr 07 '26
QC means Quebec City, right?
3
u/5hane7rain Apr 07 '26
Yup
2
u/mwmwmwmwmmdw Apr 09 '26
quebec city is fairly conservative for a major city in canada. all of its suburbs went conservative last election. toronto and vancouver cant say the same.

My running theory is that BC is higher due to the huge number of retirees that move here. Widows and estates getting rid of hard to move collections.
6
u/Vikare_ Apr 07 '26
Very possible. That's the way Vancouver island has been heading for a while now.
Also, it's a real kick in the dick when someone dies and their guns end up with the RCMP. I had a buddy I used to shoot with who had a nice collection which mostly was turned in to the cops by his ex wife who was a bit of a you know what. The horror...
3
u/4r4nd0mninj4 Apr 08 '26
I'd set up my will to have my guns donated to a gun club if I didn't trust my wife to respect my property. 🤷♂️
3
u/Vikare_ Apr 08 '26
Shit that's actually super smart. Really unfortunate. I think he had moved here in the last 5-10 yr so maybe his will was out of date? Not really sure.
2
u/4r4nd0mninj4 Apr 08 '26
Yeah. My brother's friend heard of a guy from their club passing away, and he swung buy to pay his respects. The widow was more than happy to arrange a sale for everything when the estate finalized. She had no idea what she was going to do with them as she didn't have her license and figured asking the cops to come get them was her only option. 😬
1
u/stratocaster_blaster Apr 09 '26
Estate law can vary from province to province so if he didn’t have a will signed for BC, that might als have been a facto

u/prosper_0 Apr 07 '26
RURAL quebeckers are every bit as rednecky as elsewhere in the country, maybe moreso. They're just vastly outnumbered.
Same sort of thing goes for BC. The further you get away from the big cities, the more 'my kinda people' there are.
7
u/Bull-RunTheJewels Apr 07 '26
I was surprised by this. On Vancouver island, once you get out of Victoria, there are lots of loggers and other folks that have a bit of redneck in them. Up by Campbell River and farther north, lots of the stop signs on the logging roads have bullet holes in them haha.
5
u/jollygreengiant1655 Apr 07 '26
IME the big differences you see in people's attitudes and beliefs are rural vs urban. You don't see big differences in rural people from different provinces, and vice versa with city people. I've seen that in every province I've been in.
5
u/HappyCan7250 Apr 08 '26
You don't even have to get up to Campbell river to find that. The Renfrew-Cowichan loop has plenty.
Lots of gun owners around here. I have 3 ranges within a 20min drive of me on the central island
2
u/TitusImmortalis Apr 08 '26
Heck Malahat and beyond is basically mostly forest. Mill Bay, Cow Bay and Duncan have tons of farm land.
1
u/Vikare_ Apr 07 '26
Oh yes I feel like we have a lot of gun owners and hunters up here. It's not an uncommon hobby.
4
u/HappyCan7250 Apr 08 '26
Yep. Rural BC is solid blue, check out the riding maps, it's pretty interesting. Vancouver and Victoria just have more seats that the whole rest of the province, but geographically, the entire province outside of those 2 cities (and Kamloops) went conservative basically.
Us folks in rural BC have more in common with Albertans and Saskies then we do with folks in Vancouver.
I went to Vancouver recently and man, I don't know why anyone wants to live in that city. Neat to visit, but what a fucking nightmare to live in.
2
u/4r4nd0mninj4 Apr 08 '26
Cities attract people who can't survive on their own and leach off of others, in one way or another.
2
u/TitusImmortalis Apr 08 '26
Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna/Kamloops make all the decisions from there hide away cities of drugs, crime and blind consumption. People who are "so educated" but are afraid and willfully ignorant to firearms, and truly believe that a totalitarian government is for the good of the people. As long as it provides a structure of their choosing, of course.
2
u/4r4nd0mninj4 Apr 08 '26
I've had friends come up and say in person they agree with my posts, but can't like or reply, lest their more liberal friends turn against them. They don't want to get canceled in the city...
I say you don't need that kind of fear and negativity in your life. 😬
1
u/Zorgtest Apr 24 '26
Yeah it’s Cottageland, the schools are EMPTY during hunting seasons, I went hunting with my English teacher on my last year of high school
We also do a lot of fishing trips, when I was in primary school we raised salmons and set them free in a Salmon River… which means that I have a claim to fish in that river without a license… since I brought the damn fish there

u/GenuineSteak Apr 07 '26
tbh BC went about how i expected as a BCer, considering how liberal it is. but im still dissapointed nonethelss.
25
u/FedInformant Apr 07 '26
It would be nice to know how many of the applicants were businesses vs individuals
13
u/VanillaHighlights Apr 07 '26
No dude, it's the citizens that are solely to be vilified. The small business owners need to be protected, they were just trying to feed their families.
/s
8
u/FedInformant Apr 07 '26
Im not saying businesses need to be vilified. Id just be interested how many dork individuals participated vs businesses
15
u/VanillaHighlights Apr 07 '26
I'm actually kind of with you here.
Canadians assume Vancouver = BC. Do they not have any idea how hick as fuck most of the interior and the entire thing is north of Kamloops? I'd garantee most of these guns are either from businesses or family inheritances.
I personally know of someone who inherited a 300+ single action revolver collection from their grandsther. The RCMP are incredibly aware of that stash.
7
u/prosper_0 Apr 07 '26
Yeah, I'd be much more curious about the stats if you deleted the LML from the reporting. Then do it again, but delete vineyard country around Kelowna area.
7
u/VanillaHighlights Apr 07 '26
Kelowna and District Fish & Game Club is a pretty active club.
Take a look at the MLA for Kelowna North, Tara Armstrong before you make assumptions. Farmers with tourist money.

You would hope the Secretary of Defence Procurement would be a little more overlapping with gun owners but here we are.
3
u/jollygreengiant1655 Apr 07 '26
My limited experience supports this. Going from the AB peace country to northern BC, you wouldn't be able to tell any difference except for the road signs.
1
u/FedInformant Apr 07 '26
Yea exactly. North of kamloops is very remote living. Also, is there any way for people to participate with firearms that aren't on the banned list? People who inherited firearms but know nothing about them and just see they can receive compensation?
4
u/VanillaHighlights Apr 07 '26
I mean, a call to a used gun dealer wouldn't hurt.
AFAIK there is no way to get compensation for them if they weren't on the list. An individual could surrender them to the police if they don't want them at home, but you aren't seeing a cent and effectively gifting the government a family inheritance.

u/amorphoussoupcake Apr 07 '26
Firearms declared per person is a useless way to compare provinces. Because the ownership rate of different types of firearms would be different in each province. You would have to compare the rate of compliance per eligible person. That data is probably not available to the public.

Different country if you ask them. (But you have to ask in french. And not even like, real french, but their local version of it. They're particular about everything over there... )

I wouldn't be surprised if that BC number is mostly gun shop turn ins I know a lot of store owners or sellers are feeling the pinch here, pistols used to make up 50% of their sales and a lot of staff were exclusively restricted oriented and trained in fixing and repairing.
6
u/mtldude1967 Apr 07 '26
I thought all the numbers were private owners, the gun shops having already given up their inventory.
3
u/Dickastigmatism Apr 07 '26
The government would absolutely love for us all to turn on each other so let's just get over it and focus on the happy fact that the overall numbers are abysmal.

That's different than what I heard. I heard Pierre intentionally wanted to leave property rights out of the charter because it could make it harder for government to expropriate property when needed for infrastructure projects.

Isn’t the Montréal Metro complex the largest in the world too?
But yeah, in France they tell the protesters to leave their SMGs at home
But I know plenty of people who own full autos… we just don’t care, the RCMP barely ever comes in Québec… I’ve lived there all my life and I’ve never seen a single officer, first time I saw one was when I went to PEI for the first time
They only ever do anything when it’s near the border, like that time my uncle saw off the Newfoundland and Labrador flagpole and they came, looked around, went out for lunch and never came back… that’s the only time I’ve heard of them crossing the provincial border and doing anything at all
Our provincial police doesn’t really do gun grabs either unless it’s gang related
2
2
u/H0B013 Apr 08 '26
I'm convinced our numbers are so high in BC because of the sheer number of "tacticool" gunshops we have and our three bass pros. Even in the lower mainland we have a shit ton of "come and take it" gun owners. Hard for me to believe those are all citizen applicants
2
u/BadOysterParty Apr 09 '26
We are forgetting one thing. People in Ontario and bc are strapped for cash and would sell their ass for a dollar so it's no surprise they are first on the train

from pre ban time on gunpost, my theory on the compilers here in BC is that it could largely be young dudes whose only firearm is their m&p sport 2 and have no dog in the fight and are already over it (firearms)
There’s also a bunch here that were successfully fear mongered to self report about their gsg 16s and others that no one knows they have.
I’d be really curious to see a breakdown of the specific firearms (and value) of firearms reported to the program. How many are top shelf ar’s….. and how many are the ones chip and dale were trying to tell us weren’t being taken (the gopher, can, and pop tart guns)
1
u/Musician-Internal Apr 07 '26
context?
28
u/awesomebouncer123 Apr 07 '26
The numbers for declared firearms has recently come out and bc has the most firearms declared per capita and Quebec numbers are surprisingly low, judging the whole point of this gun grab is to win votes in Quebec
21
u/CalibreMag Apr 07 '26
That's because the majority of the banned firearms are in BC and AB, and to a slightly lesser degree in ON. I have an ATIP somewhere where Public Safety examined the number of registered impacted firearms per province, and IIRC, British Columbia and Alberta represented something like 60%, Ontario another 25%, and all the other provinces combined made up the remaining 15%.
Compounding this, Quebec's numbers are low because the existence of their provincial registry suppressed the adoption of exactly the guns that were banned.
11
u/TKB-059 bc Apr 07 '26
Can confirm, know multiple people whose entire collection was literally all restricted minus a 10/22. Specimens like this rarely exist in the rest of the nation.

u/Q-Ball7 In the end, it's taxes all the way down Apr 07 '26
Almost like the entire point of these policies were specifically designed to destroy the culture of these areas.
12
u/Barbarian_818 Apr 07 '26
I've been saying that for years.
Nathalie Provost and Poly Se Souvient have been very clear that they see legal gun owners as the real problem. Nathalie is convinced that gun culture itself is a malignancy that breeds spree shooters.
She thinks the tactical crowd is practicing murder every time they pick up a firearm. That's why they target anything even remotely tactical in appearance.
If the tactical crowd switched to 18th century black powder smoke poles and ranked abreast shooting, the Liberals would be quick to ban the Brown Bess. They have mentioned wanting to go after anything with "a military lineage". Given how loosely they've been defining variants, military lineage includes pretty much anything that goes bang.
6
u/Q-Ball7 In the end, it's taxes all the way down Apr 07 '26
On a meta level, this is just how ever -ism on the planet works.
Provost's life outlook is extremely sexist against men [and boys]- perhaps due to life events- and targeting the guns is just a proxy for that (which is why their related propaganda is "to protect wimminz and girlz").
A racist is very scared of guns in the hands of [hated demographic] because they fear reprisal, and the more ground they lose, the more they believe they are in danger and the louder they scream about how evil [hated demographic] is.
I see no reason a dyed-in-the-wool gyno-supremacist wouldn't feel the same way. The West is just objectively a less sexist society.
3
u/Barbarian_818 Apr 07 '26
I think at least some of her militant feminism is due to the fact that the Poly Tech shooter was a misogynist.
But, she'd rather focus on punishing the gun community than equipping women with the means to fight back.
As I've said a few times so far: 30 yrs ago Nathalie Provost was a helpless victim at a terrible tragedy. She's spent her entire life since then trying to make sure everyone else gets to be a helpless victim too.
4
u/Q-Ball7 In the end, it's taxes all the way down Apr 07 '26
No, that's just the excuse. This person was evil before the shooting, and she is still evil after it.
1
u/Zorgtest Apr 24 '26
I know a girl who was in the same regiment as him, everyone knew there was something wrong with him, she told me "you should have seen the way he looked at women, it was terrifying, pure hatred”
he was a sociopath and likely a psychopath too… someone who would have never been allowed to own a gun in the first place… he stole the mini-14 from the armory
I repeat HE DID NOT ACQUIRE THAT GUN LEGALLY HE FUCKING STOLE IT!!
So her going after legal gun owners specifically makes no sense
2
u/Q-Ball7 In the end, it's taxes all the way down Apr 24 '26
you should have seen the way she looked at men, it was terrifying, pure hatred
Yeah, but enough about Provost.

I think one thing you’re forgetting is that nearly 50% of PAL holders in BC also have RPALs, the highest percentage in the country for that matter with Alberta a close second, as opposed to a very small percentage of total PAL holders in Quebec having RPALs. So it would be reasonable to assume that BC has a much higher percentage of gun owners who have federally registered prohibs compared to somewhere like Quebec, therefore it’s not a fair comparison to say BC is bad because more people signed up for the compensation. At the end of the day it’s the people with registered prohibs who have the most to lose here cause whether they like it or not the government knows what they have, so feigning ignorance or ignoring the program will only take you so far before either your pal won’t be renewed or worse. It’s just a different calculation all together.

u/jeffrezmaridd Apr 07 '26
I mean, for us Quebec owners we don't want to give them away anymore than you guys do. For those who hates guns and are a large majority, however...
