Milsurps / Prohib Panzer Arms AR-57 Appreciation Post

Post image
1 Upvotes

Howdy Folks!

The Texan is back with yet another gun appreciation post, this time with something of a distant memory, aka Pre-2020 times, back when you used to be able to get an AR-15 platform or lower before they were prohibited.

Now this one isn’t really a gun per se, it’s more of an upper receiver as it was mostly sold this way as a DIY kit. Yes you could get this as a complete firearm, but nowadays thats obviously impossible for you guys since they are now Prohibited Category Firearms.

But still, it is definitely worth a mention because the AR-57, while it wasn’t a perfect platform, it was actually a stepping stone for making 5.7x28mm get out of niche caliber territory, and is now gaining more widespread adoption and popularity, especially because of…. Recent events at an In N’ Out location that gave the round more attention.

Anyways enough of me yapping! Enjoy!

Any recommendations for a first gun
I love the look of tikka ace game .223 look but the 24 inch barrel seems way too much for range shooting max out at 200 yard. And I just can’t find anyone sells the 20inch version. Any other good option without spending more than $2k that’s within the tacticool feeling

Thanks.

Shooting Old school cool Webley MK1

Figured it was a good time to post another run of my Webley mk1 revolver circa 1890 using light smokeless reloads in 45AutoRim (same load will work for 45ACP with moonclips).

Handloading recipe is: 45AR starline brass, 3.5-3.6g win 231 powder, CCI large pistol primer, 1.26OAL, 230g LRN. Enjoy!

Buy recommendations I’m interested in getting into clay shooting and subscribe to buy once cry once - what shotgun should I look at?

I got my PAL this year and I’ve been looking at a few guns to add to my collection. I’ve currently got a Benelli Lupo in 6.5 Creedmoor and I’m eyeing the Beretta 1301, but I’m also looking to get into clay shooting, but honestly I’ve never fired an over/under shotgun and the only shotguns I’ve fired at a clay shoot was an ancient Browning Auto 5 (which was dope). My thinking was if I get the 1301, that fills the semi-auto niche, and maybe I look at an O/U, but all the recommended ones online are quite expensive! The one that seemed most appealing was the Beretta 688 but for one of these shotguns, it totals up to more than the Lupo and 1301 lol.

So what should I be looking at? I don’t mind spending more, but what would keep me in the sport through absolute novice up to somewhat experienced over the next few years?

The hunt is over for this beauty. Fluted barrel shooting 17HMR. I think it’s about 10-15 years old, but overall good condition and mint.

Did a light coating of stock finish to bring it back to life.

All thats left is to swap the scope and test her out.

Misc What happened to Spectre Ballistics ST22M and ST22 SBR?

I see FRT entries for these marked as Non-Restricted. They are 114 mm barrel and 318 mm barrel. There is nothing in the market in truely this category. This is basically a pistol length barrel in a rifle that is about 20 inch length I guess. But I never see them listed anywhere. Were they never really launched or something?

Fix my gun Backland Hunter X Benelli M4 stocks compatibility

Does anybody know if all Benelli M4 compatible stocks work on the Crusader Arms Backland Hunter?

More specifically the Toni Systems Stock.

Hopefully one day Woox or Magpul will make an M4 compatible stock, but until then, this will have to do

Buy recommendations WHAT A GOOD STARTING SHOTGUN AND RIFLE IN CANADA ?

Hi all!
I’m new to this subreddit. I have applied for my RPAL and waiting for it to get delivered and am wondering what all should I look at before I get my license in the mail. Any recommendations are welcome. I was looking at the Nova3 and a potential 300 Winchester magnum rifle.

So excited to be part of this community.

EDIT: I wasn’t expecting that many responses haha. Thank you, this subreddit is awesome !!

Buy recommendations Hello folks new here snd a question

Fairly new to the sport and had a question on one of my next purchases and storage
On of my storage options is a locked 4 drawer cabinet for horizontal storage. How easy at home is it to unscrew shotgun barrels? Mossberg, 1301, also ruger 10-22
This is just one option
Thankyou

Buy recommendations Double Rifle Hard Case Suggestions

Hey guys,

I just got into firearms and I am looking to get my first hard case. I would like to get one that can fit two rifles so that I can bring those to the range without having to carry multiple cases. Don't know if that matters, but I've got a 22LR and a .270.

Thing is, from what I have seen so far, I would need to cut out the foam in the shape of my rifles. I would like to avoid that since I plan on getting more rifles in the future and I don't want to be swaping foams everytime.

I am more a of ''buy once, cry once'' type of person and I am looking at Pelican and Nanuk, but I am open to other suggestions.

Any suggestions as far as specific models go?

Misc What is the most you have, or would spend on a firearm purchase?

Starting out I remember thinking $1,000 was too much to drop on any firearm, now not so much.

What’s the most you would spend?

If you’re feeling brave let us know what that purchase was.

Anyone heard from their retailers about potential delivery dates?

Feets / Collection / My build Benelli Nova 3 HD Question

So I bought a very lightly used Benelli Nova 3 HD the other day, finally got a case and lock so I tore it down, cleaned it up, and put it back together just about an hour ago.

I watched a TON of teardown videos, most of them several years old unfortunately, but in nearly every single one I noticed 2 things: 1. The pins in the receiver on one side (usually left) have a flat head on them, mine do not, they're just skinny rods; and 2. Removing the trigger piece was really difficult in the videos, but mine practically fell out, and I had zero issues getting this back in.

My question is: Are these things normal? I'm wondering if these differences were fixed with newer versions of the guns (like bolt shape differences especially) or is this something I need to be suspicious of?

Does anyone have a newer Nova 3 HD to compare?

I also never got a manual (which I can find online) or a plug. Anyone know of a cheap site I can buy a plug, or if I don't ever plan on taking this hunting should I just save the money and forget it altogether?

Thanks!

Gun and gear reviews Adler Ad500A 223

Post image
69 Upvotes

Well, I pulled the trigger… literally 😂 on the new AD500A in .223, and for around $1,200 after tax, I can honestly say I’m seriously impressed. I couldn’t find any real world reviews on the AD500A in .223, so I finally said screw it and had to get my hands on one myself.

Put about 200 rounds through it today and with the factory mags it didn’t jam once — not a single issue. It was also amazingly accurate at 50 yards, especially considering It was quickly sighted in before shooting on the temp sight I have on it for now (Vortex Crossfire 2)

The rifle itself feels great in the hands. It’s not heavy, recoil is very manageable, and overall it’s surprisingly ergonomic and comfortable. Everything felt well balanced and natural while shooting, which made the whole experience much better.

The only real issue I found was with some of the factory fit and finish. I originally bought another one but noticed a lot of small surface manufacturing imperfections. Luckily, G4C was great about it and allowed me to exchange it, and thankfully the replacement I got has been solid with no issues or visual imperfections.

If you’re going to look at one, I’d definitely recommend taking a really good look over the entire rifle before leaving the store. Check the overall hardware, alignment, screw heads and even the tools provided. On the first one I had, there were little things that looked slightly out of line, some screw heads appeared warped/damaged, and even some of the included tools weren’t quite right. Nothing I experienced with my replacement, but definitely something I’d recommend checking closely before purchasing.

As for magazines, I bought a couple Amend2 mags to try out and unfortunately had issues pretty much every time I tried to use them. The two factory magazines that come with the rifle were a completely different story — zero jams throughout the day. I ended up pairing the two factory mags back-to-back to make a flip-mag setup, and so far I’m definitely sticking with them.

I ran PMC Bronze 55gr through it and it ran mint. One thing I did notice is that this rifle seems to perform best when running heavily lubricated. I kept mine well lubricated throughout the range session and, paired with the factory mags, it ran flawlessly.

Overall, I’d highly recommend the AD500A in 223 to anyone looking for a cool-looking semi-auto that performs amazingly and looks just as neat. Between the reliability and how accurate it was at 50 yards with just a quick sight-in, it definitely exceeded my expectations.

I’ve still got a bunch more parts planned and on the away for mine, so the build isn’t finished yet. For around $1,200 after tax, I’m thoroughly impressed with it so far!
