Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread
Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.
First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.
This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.
To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.
We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.
Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Does anyone know when we can expect the Supreme Court case to start? Mandatory “handgun when?”
28
29
u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Jun 08 '26
Handguns are apparently harder to fight. I really hope there’s some effort to at least get IPSC recognized. I want to be able to get an exemption to compete 😭

u/hungbeastfromtheeast Jun 08 '26
Dude the fact that handguns have a freeze is fucked even Australia and somewhat the UK allow handguns
12
u/dgod40 Jun 08 '26
And silencer. WTF! I was at the range today and it would have been so much nicer if we all had some peace and quiet.
1
u/Beneficial-Ride-4475 Jun 10 '26
Well, that's the thing isn't it? The UK simply doesn't have the same asinine polite society we have.
1
u/Beneficial-Ride-4475 Jun 10 '26
somewhat the UK allow handguns
Only if you have a Section 5 (extraordinarily rare), or if you live in Northern Ireland.

u/ConstructionOk4528 Jun 08 '26
Y'all think that we are getting handguns back maybe we should ask baal

u/rastamasta45 Jun 12 '26
I’m huffing pure copium this morning, but I think the program and future bans is dead. If anyone watches the CCFR’s latest post where reporters are asking the libtards about the extension the absolute dismissal of the question “ask someone else” and Gary literally running away frok reporters like a chipmunk with peanuts for the winter. They can’t even muster the strength to spin it.
They can’t even lie.
I think it’s done folks, we won.
*huff huff huff* more copium for me

as i said in the other post, i have hope to see one day the OICs revoked
i know im a fool, but thats what hope is for
6
u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Jun 09 '26
Nope - it’s happening. The build up and context of this to me points to a beneficial ruling in our favour.
Also speaking into the universe lol, that’s what I’m doing. I can’t wait till we get our fun stuff back.
4
u/StalkerRigo Jun 09 '26
sure hope so!
if OICs get canned, then my wishlist goes back to what the entire gun community wants: a revision of the archaic decisions regarding mag cap, suppressors, and the ban on ak/ar by name...
4
u/Beneficial-Ride-4475 Jun 10 '26
I'd imagine that we might see some reversals.
2
1
u/mywaaaaife Jun 12 '26
I think you’d better take a look at the composition of the Supreme Court. Maybe you’ll be less disappointed when the ruling comes.
2
u/Beneficial-Ride-4475 Jun 12 '26
As I said, might, it doesn't mean we will. Given the Supreme Court situation, it's unlikely, but that isn't a reason to give up hope.

CCFR’s latest post, a guy who is complying only given locations that are 3 or 4 hours away from him to turn in his guns.
It’s honestly like the government is going out of their way to humiliate and piss off gun owners as punishment for being part of the “wrong culture” for Canada that the elites deemed wrong.
I can’t stand this god damn government anymore.
I’m so glad killers get bail to go and murder a cop who’s a father of 2 while retired people get harassed with threat of jail for 10 years.
Demented chipmunk and provolone keeping all of Canada safe, god bless them

For a country with “true, north, strong and free” in its anthem it’s scary how cucked we are, like seriously cucked. If the USA wanted to take us, we’d go down in 3 minutes and then thank them for cucking us
6
u/InitialAd4125 Jun 17 '26
Let's be real here national anthems are nothing more then a nation states propaganda 9.9/10. Frankly I see no point in standing for them because I know damn well those nation can't even be bothered to do that for us.
3
u/HappyCan7250 Jun 17 '26
Don't forget Trudeau changed our anthem from "home and native land" to "home on native land". I didn't even hear about it at the time, but even our anthem now has gone woke.

Chipmunk is like a guy wearing a double sided piece of cardboard advertising cheap pizza on the street corner. He doesn't know, or care about the firearms or the confiscation, his job is to talk about how successful and amazing the program is and read. rather incompetently, off the papers that are printed for him. Nathalie Provost is the Queen, focus and driver of the program since the day it started, though putting her directly in charge would look to biased even for the liberals, so she just runs the entire thing from shadows.
She would have LOVED to see us all declared criminals the day after the amnesty expired and send in the army or swat teams to start dragging us out of our homes in cuffs. Without her corrupting influence it's possible Carney would have canceled the whole ordeal the first day, or at least just declared a permanent amnesty and left it for the future so he didn't have to spend a dime.
I can tell you this, not a small chunk of Alberta separatist directly cite the gun bans as a reason if not the primary reason they support separatism. Provost is literally doing permanent damage to the unity of the entire country with her fanatic crusade.
18
10
u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 17 '26
Provost would unironically tour El Salvador and ask about how they did mass imprisonment just to see PAL holders in prison. Damn the consequences like how if you even were to just arrest 50,000 people in Canada you would end up costing the Canadian tax payer 100s of millions more each if not billions with a loss of tax revenue. Damn that. If it saves one life somehow it’s worth it. Even if it ruins 100,000s more.
3
u/Late_Winner6859 Jun 18 '26
Obviously once you don’t support the correct ideology - your life is at best worthless. So it all totally makes sense
5
u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 18 '26
It's wild as the liberal party often claimed to give a shit about basic human rights. But I guess when it's not convenient those human rights don't matter much.
13
u/Lumindan Jun 18 '26
Without her corrupting influence it's possible Carney would have canceled the whole ordeal the first day, or at least just declared a permanent amnesty and left it for the future so he didn't have to spend a dime.
Stop carrying water for Carney and the Liberals. He has had every chance to drop this program, it would've tied right into his whole "I'm fiscally responsible, look how mature and serious I am, I'm the outsider who's gonna fix Canada".
Carney has doubled down on the buyback every time.
Who brought Provost on? Carney.
Who put Gary as the lightning rod (and your post is literally evidence it's working btw). Carney.
Who's the one who pushing this to the confiscation phase? Carney.
Do you think something of this magnitude is a pet project or that it's solely Poly and Provosts doing? All this shit comes directly from the upper brass and Carney.
23
u/rastamasta45 Jun 09 '26
Do you guys remember that post with that guy talking about how he’s happy to have given up all his B&T collection and he got paid blah blah….wondering what he’s feeling now
20
u/Reasonable_Hall2346 Jun 10 '26
He is still posting about how the government pinkie promised him they will give him 20k. Talking about how people were fear mongering others in not complying and how the program is clearly well funded if he got his pinkie promise.
He probably feels righteous in his decision and has the upmost urge to post online about it.

u/IAMURBUNKLE Jun 10 '26
I know we all hope for grandfathering with use, but I really hope for it - not for our benefit but just so B&T guy feels stupid every day

24
u/boozefiend3000 Jun 12 '26
Dude made a spreadsheet and there was 27,600 5.56 rifles declared. That wouldn’t only be AR’s. So the government didn’t even get a 30% compliance from AR owners lol good job everyone 👍🏻
25
u/Fuck_you_all22 Jun 12 '26
The latest Rcmp report, which contradicts previous studies, is very suspicious in light scc decision to hear oic challenge. Liberals and poly may be cooking up something. I smell something shitty brewing.
19
u/rastamasta45 Jun 12 '26
Whatever at this point, they will have the same issues, Alberta separatism is fulled by gun bans and no cop wants to touch this with a 10 foot poll, even if they pass a law, now what, they still can’t enforce it.
18
u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 12 '26
The hilarious thing is that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out things wrong with the RCMP study. Such as them refusing to define what a long gun or a handgun is. (Is it a pellet gun? An airsoft gun? A actual firearm?) They don't define what kind of crimes a crime gun was used in. A large chunk of the guns traced they couldn't even get a source for. Oh and in the article they admit that they don't even do a lot of the firearms tracing for Ontario and Quebec so there goes 60% of the populations stats out of the window. So many flaws in that study it's utterly hilarious.
22
u/ConstructionOk4528 Jun 14 '26
All those people gathering for the world cup, huge crowds but I didn't see any of those folks where their rights are being removed, internet censorship laws, unjustified gun bans, massive poverty, insane gas prices, criminals out on the street, mass immigration you know why? 25k jobs for new TFW (They will stay on our dime after fifa is done)
No canadians wanted to work those jobs😢 clearly not because either the wage was too low or they ignored any canadian applications for them.

u/I-LOVE-HENRY-RIFLES Jun 15 '26
Liberals who claim to champion worker rights undercut workers with cheap labour. It’s like they don’t understand what supply and demand are.
6
u/Lumindan Jun 15 '26
Oh they do. It's that they willingly put on the party partisan blinders.
They'll criticize trump for working with large tech bodies but they won't say a peep about their parties ties to palantir.
It's hypocrisy in the name of team sports. Imagine how pressed they'd be right now if Pierre announced we were in a recession.
5
u/TKB-059 bc Jun 15 '26
It’s like they don’t understand what supply and demand are.
They do, that's why they're doing it.
5
u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 16 '26
When have the liberals ever championed worker rights? One of the first things Carney ever did was union bust the Air Canada strikes.
4
u/gamercast1337 Jun 17 '26
No bro they do fully understand supply and demand why do you think they are doing it? Its to keep labour costs as low as possible.

You can thank the Liberal government for this.

It feels so weird knowing the amnesty is extended with no set deadline, like now we’re all just sitting and waiting and not even sure how long we’ll wait.
God the LPC government is so incompetent it would’ve been funny if it wasn’t our tax dollars being thrown out
12
u/TKB-059 bc Jun 16 '26
Amnesty is going to eternal. It'll keep getting extended, extended and extended.
7
17
u/boozefiend3000 Jun 09 '26
Tracey Wilson just said the amnesty’s been extended for 90 days past the SCC decision. Hearing won’t be until at least Jan-April with a decision long after that
9
u/I-LOVE-HENRY-RIFLES Jun 09 '26
Apparently feds are now promising to compensate every single declaration. If the SCC forces them to open the portal again so more people can participate is the move for everyone to declare and bankrupt the country 🗿
15
u/boozefiend3000 Jun 09 '26
I’m still not declaring shit. That’s still a win for the liberals. When have they ever given a fuck about money? Their voters don’t care either
7
8
u/Reasonable_Hall2346 Jun 09 '26
We go from yearly amnesty extension to 90days. The 90days will come and go and extended by another 90days indefinitely.

Okay guys now for a new topic. I like to call this one "I fucking hate boomers for what they have done to our country" and it details how they have ruined our nation, culture, economy and way of life to chase after their high and luxury feel good beliefs. They liked the good economy so much their parents gave them, they took it away from their future generations as well. Its crazy how I dont even have a dream of owning a house, land, out in the countryside anymore having a loving wife and children, in a safe nation, working in the HVAC/R trade (yes I have a fucking dream of working in a trade; I love the split of electrical and non electrical shit) anymore. All I dream about is having a fucking job that lets me pay the bills. Not even a job in the trade I went to because no one is hiring, no dream of owning a house because I cant even get out of debt, no dream of being able to ever have a family. And I cant even get this basic work a job to afford to live because the boomers constantly vote agaisnt their country and only want stuff that values them and this economy is fucked!!!!!
Very original of me to say, I know, I never once have made any of these complaints.
Also something something I can't even go out to shoot anymore due to expenses to help relax (see its gun related mods dont ban this)
16
u/Additional_Fold_1350 Jun 08 '26
Main reason I am going off grid in about 24 months from now. Oldest graduates, and wife, daughter and I are going nomadic for 2-3 years. Buying a new camper and hitting the road in prep for building an off grid homestead. Part of which I will be building a private 100 yard range on the property.

u/dgod40 Jun 08 '26
This is the way. I live in the GTA and I'm on the look for properties far north to retire with my wife, dogs, kayaks and guns.
23

I don’t even care anymore man I’m just burnt from it. Canadians will never do anything about. No incentives for politicians to change anything. And nothing ever happens. It just sucks from here on out ig
9
u/mangobludden Jun 08 '26
yeah that's why we need to forcibly remove these politicians
7

I dunno i schizo post on main with fb and Instagram, so unless boomers can outbased me on that (tbf I have seen it sp i know what you mean) but most are just "tv say so" its sad. History will not be kind to the boomers.
1
22
u/CanadianGunNoob Jun 08 '26
I don't think most boomers have ill will toward future generations, they are just highly susceptible to broadcast media propaganda. This makes them a large voting block that the incumbent government can easily manipulate to stay in power.
The real problem that plagues our nation is that the government controls nearly every aspect of everything and continues to expand its influence. Unfortunately, that's a very hard trend to reverse.
24
u/hectop20 Jun 08 '26
I know some boomers that don't believe a word from MSM and spout off all sorts of nonsense that they find online. Things that if you even spend the least amount of time fact checking you know are outlandishly false.
I'm a boomer. I take anything from mainstream/broadcast media with a grain of salt because I know a lot of what is being aired is paid for content that's passed off as news. But I also have less faith in non mainstream content.
Yeah, I have no ill will to subsequent generations. I think some boomers pushed their kids. The next set of kids pushed back and created issues like participation medals, helicoptering, etc. which they caused a subsequent generation to be very entitled.
7
u/CanadianGunNoob Jun 08 '26
For whatever reason a lot of boomers are susceptible to mis/dis-information whatever the source. Assuming everything is a lie because it's from an untrustworthy source will lead you straight to fantasy land as quickly as trusting everything from an untrustworthy source.
One black pill is healthy, but don't take the whole bottle. Discernment is the key when looking at information from any source. Every source has an angle and an agenda. looking at the same story from multiple sources is also helpful and it's perfectly fine to not come to a position of certainty.

Im not expecting the same standard of living they got. Im expecting an even better standard of living since thats how society should work, the old generation does what it can for the young generation to make it better than they had it and that young generation does ehat it can to make it better for the new young generation etc etc. The boomers do NOT want this to happen as they are spoiled rotten who want it all, future generations be damned.

Competitive handgun shooter "are" targeted by Canadian government handgun transfer ban
Not sure why they are being meek with the original title, should just say it the way it is.
Also, sport shooters with semi auto rifle and certain shotguns are also affected. Yes, we known that since 2020.
7
u/Lumindan Jun 14 '26
Not sure why they are being meek with the original title, should just say it the way it is.
You know why. Gotta use the softest gloves possible.
2
u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Jun 16 '26
I know people here hate CBC, but I think we can all agree it’s good that this is even being discussed. Handguns will be a tougher nut to crack but I know we’ll get IPSC back to its former self. Just a question of how long.
Part of stopping the full death of the sport would be the investment of gun clubs or ranges in rental competition gear to allow new shooters to get their black badges. Very expensive but I’d hope that could pay off
13
u/WeightedDips95 Jun 09 '26
I went to a bass pro in the US yesterday and I am legitarally depressed now. That is all
7
u/gamercast1337 Jun 09 '26
Was it the gun selection, the prices, or both?
3
u/Lumindan Jun 09 '26
Yes.
Hell have you seen a Walmart in the states?
5
u/gamercast1337 Jun 10 '26
Yes and it makes me cry 🥲
They get the fun selection the non highway robbery priced guns (and most items for that matter besides uh medication)
I must say (I understand Americans have different costs to us like crippling student loan debt and Healthcare) but the fact they are complaining about being unable to afford on their 70kusd a year (like what 110k for us?) While having way lower food costs etc than us makes me want to crash out.
Id kill to make 70k usd a year, fuck man id kill to make 70KCAD a year, fuck me even 60kcad a year would solve most of my issues.
2
u/WeightedDips95 Jun 23 '26
I got banned by Reddit mods for some innocuous schizoid posting after I posted this.
But it was mostly the selection. Actually made me so sad I just left. Didn’t even bring me joy
2
u/gamercast1337 Jun 23 '26
Welcome back you've come back at the perfect schizoranting time.
And yeah I figured seeing what you could get if your government wasnt the way it was would just destroy your spirits. Seeing American videos comparing "duh 500 dollar AR to 1500 dollar AR" feels like being a P.O.W hearing the guards complain about how their food doesnt have enough seasoning on it while you got rotten porridge for the nth time.
1
u/WeightedDips95 Jun 23 '26
Facts man. Going to the US is just blackpilling in general.
Cars are all in good condition from no salt
Young people have homes and families
Nephew bonked his head real bad, had to go to emerge, was in and out in 1.5 hours-seen immediately, and my brother only got a $50 bill ok the mail
Guns. People shooting on their property everywhere
People are actually fucking friendly and outgoing- the complete opposite of Canada. Don’t understand at all how we have rep for being nice. I can’t even remember the last time a stranger talked to me lol. I’ve had more interaction with strangers during my short visit here than the last 10 years in Canada.
Canada is actually such a fucking shithole it’s insane
4
u/HappyCan7250 Jun 09 '26
At least Canadian gun shops can load up the shelves with Mk15s, Carmels and Backland Hunter Comps soon, and sort of look like a US shop? Slightly? Maybe?
I'm still for once feeling ever so slightly excited about gun ownership in this country with the court case and new options coming in.
But yeah, I've got family in the US and man, it makes me jealous. If I can be trusted with a bolt rifle or semi 12ga, I am easily responsible enough to own an AR, AK or handgun.
14
u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 17 '26
So this is interesting and I think it subverted everyone's exceptions as you can look at this glass half full glass half empty.
Con. The number of Pal holders still has not cracked quite 2.5 million in 2025. Pro the number of pal holders still went up and if you were going for the nearest 100,000 it would be appropriate to round to 2.5 million. Con the net increase declined from the previous year. Pro. The net increase is still a increase. Con. The percentage of adults with a gun license is still at 7.2%. Pro. The two biggest provinces have seen a increase in percentage of adults with a gun license. Ontario has cracked the 5% range and is now at 5.3% while Quebec is at 6.8% and PEI funnily enough has also cracked 5%. So no matter where you go in the country you are going to see at least 1/20 adults will have a PAL. Also another PRO every single province saw gains in the raw number of PAL holders in Canada. This is good as that doesn't mean there were loses that caused a decrease in percentage of adult PAL holders in Canada just that the population increased faster then new PAL holders came into existence. Personally I think the more interesting concern is "Why despite a gross increase of 140,718 new adults getting there PAL for the first time there was only a net increase of 46,555?" That means we lost 94,163 PAL holders. Could this mean more PAL holders are dying off? Leaving the country? Giving up on there PAL? This I think is the kind of questions we should be asking as a community.

u/PanfriedAgain Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26
No shade, it’s easy to get confused with Canada’s inconsistent laws but;
I’ve seen comments on several posts this year claiming handguns are prohibited and can’t be taken to the range by people who own them. This is incorrect. HANDGUN TRANSFERS ARE FROZEN, they CANNOT be bought or otherwise change registered ownership, HANDGUNS ARE STILL RESTRICTED as they were before, and CAN still be transported to and fired at any CFO approved shooting range where the RPAL owner is a member of the registered club that owns that range.
12
u/boozefiend3000 Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26
You can still use them. You can’t buy, sell or transfer

Just want to point out that there is a limited handgun exemption for Olympic shooting sports. I'm currently in the lengthy process of doing this. Hopefully by the end of the year I'll be able to own my first handgun.

I know this isn’t a new point, and most people here probably already understand it, but based on some of the debates I keep seeing in posts, it needs to be said again for those who havent heard this point 1million times:
Canadian gun owners need to stop pretending there is some magical middle ground where firearms are protected, but nobody has to support actual "american style" gun rights. That doesn’t exist. If firearms are not protected as a right, they exist entirely at the discretion of the government. That means every election, every panic, every bad-faith law, and every uninformed chode/cunt in a suit can chip away at them. (And they don't come back once chipped if you've noticed).
The PAL is a perfect example that might shock some "moderates" here. On paper, licensing sounds reasonable. I also don't want my retard neighbours to own guns. But in practice, the system around it has been used again and again to justify more restrictions, more classifications, more bans, and more hoops. People warned about that exact thing when it was introduced and yet were laughed off as paranoid. "Told you so" is an understatment.
So at some point people need to be honest about what they want. Either you want firearm ownership protected as an actual right, or you accept that it will keep being slowly regulated out of existence. Being afraid of “American-style” gun rights while complaining about Canadian-style gun laws is not a serious position to take. You can moan about it all you like, but that's the reality you live in.
I unironically respect people who want all guns banned MORE than those who still think they can ever satisfy the government.
22
u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 09 '26
Gun licenses are for countries that actually want to work with the people in good faith. See the Czech Republic and Finland. Canada is not a county where the government wants to work with its people in good faith.
20
u/rastamasta45 Jun 09 '26
This is the right answer, the LPC is one of the most corrupt power hungry parties in recent Canadian history. The absolute disdain they have for the average citizen and the truth is off the charts it’s not just guns, it’s everything.
When they were pushing the ev mandate cbc did a report on eve performance in the winter and it was bad, Stephen Guilbeaut outright told the reporters they’re wrong and they just don’t understand what they’re saying (even though they literally rented and drove a Tesla model 3 in the winter). The man outright denied their reality because it didn’t fit his world view.
PAL, RPALS, statistics blah blah, the LPC don’t care, they will lie and obfuscate everything until they achieve what they want achieved, which is more power for them and no power for anyone.
Look at Gary right now for bill C-22, his only argument is every single corporate lawyer actually doesn’t understand how good the bill is, the tech companies are reading it wrong and he’s the only one who’s right.
You can’t negotiate with these people in good faith. Full stop

You can't negotiate with people who don't really want to negotiate. They will pretend to want to but in reality it will quickly become a "Nuh uh your wrong I'm right." Rather then a actual thoughtful convo.

All I can say is this: Free men don't ask for permission. I've seen plenty of people who seem perfectly satisfied with their privileges, have no desire for change, and would rather obey than take responsibility for their own freedom. No wonder we can't keep our guns.

u/Reasonable_Hall2346 Jun 09 '26
The argument should not be for firearms specifically but for private property, specifically personal property rights. Just as they take firearms they can take anything else. Everything we own is not ours, and thats the biggest issue. We own it as the crown allows it but it can take anytime it wants. The crown here being figuratively, as the government acts on it.

Well folks, looks like my time in this community is coming to an end, libtards planning to table legislation to ban kids on social media that equals “upload your government ID to use sites”
I will never do such a thing, so either a VPN lets me use this site or I’m off for good. I will not let the libtards find my account and use it to punish me for thought crimes.
Fun while it lasted, this last election really was our last hope for freedom Canada. Hope Alberta succeeds and separates!

u/DoYouGetSarcasm Jun 08 '26
Reddit allows vpns for now.
They will be functionally illegal under the proposed legislation, you'll have to tell them you live somewhere else (and maybe pay with a non Canadian source, like crypto).
But i agree with you, the world's on fire and that's not the way i like it.

Brampton home invasion leaves man and woman wounded after double shooting
I wonder if this is a targeted shooting, like rivalry between gangs, or just a random target, or extortion.
And this goes back to the home invasion vs self defense discussion again.
Rather be judge by 12 then carry by 6.

Yes, the Crypto would not be prohibited anymore if the OIC is rescinded because in the FRT the legal authority it was prohibited under is the paragraph for AR-15/M16 etc.
That does beg the question of whether it would become restricted or non-restricted though.
1
u/Infinite_Price_3550 Jun 12 '26
If it was prohibited because its an "AR-15" wouldn't it just become non-restricted because of its 18.6 barrel length if the OIC were struck down? Or were AR-15 and their "variants" always restricted regardless of barrel length?
3
u/Frank23682 Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26
The history of it is very convoluted. The AR-15 was made restricted through an OIC in 1977 (This was only Colt AR-15 and didn't have the variant wording) but was removed again to be not a restricted (I believe the classification of non-restricted didn't exist yet back then before the establishment of the Firearms Act) in 1980. Then in 1992 an OIC made the M-16 and their variants restricted. Assuming that the Supreme Court Case strikes down the 2020, 2024 and 2025 OICs then we would be back to the 1992 OIC of M-16 and its variants being restricted.
This is also where the problem arises. Remember that the ATRS Modern Sporter prior to the 2020 OIC was classified as non-restricted and that implies the RCMP deemed it to be not a variant of the M-16. But in the 2020 OIC they actually added extra wording to the paragraph to make it AR-10, AR-15, M-16 and M-4 Carbine and their variants. This is the argument that the RCMP made against the ATRS Modern Sporter is that because these wordings were added, the Modern Sporter, whilst not a variant of the M-16, actually does trace its lineage to the AR-10. I suppose the same argument can be made for the Crypto, but at the end of the day the RCMP Firearms Lab has the power to interpret "variants" however they want and there's nothing we can do about it, but I hope that's something that the Supreme Court case will make a concrete decision on
Edit: Some corrections after looking through the regulation archives

Whatever the answers are, they don't support the government narrative. The details that we do know already open several cans of worms that the government doesn't want to deal with. They are happy to let this one fade away. Just be thankful that we dodged a bullet this time.

My personal theory is since the brother has prior firearms charges is that this was a much larger fuck up by the RCMP than we had initially thought. It may be some of the firearms used were obtained through illegal firearms trafficking (possibly from the states). The RCMP is trying to figure out how to best release this to the public and it would also make the liberals look bad so they’re in no rush either.
24
u/gamercast1337 Jun 08 '26
Yes there is that but the shooter too has a uh... unfortunate identity that opening this can of worms will go agaisnt their entire narrative of a certain..... jeez how do i say this without getting banned....(i havent finished schizo posting this week no ban pls).
The shooter had mental illnesses and was a member of a group that predominantly has people with mental illnesses in it and the government doesnt want to make this connection.

Like I said before, I think the government wanted it memory holed very quickly because of the optics of it, the identity politics behind it.
It's interesting, because that shooting was on par with the Poly shooting in terms of horror and damage, yet the Poly shooting is still brought up decades later, while the Tumbler ridge shooting has been memory holed and swept under the rug. I think it boils down to the identity factor being something the government wants to ignore.
It certainly looks that way at least.
7
u/I-LOVE-HENRY-RIFLES Jun 08 '26
Probably because they probably were smuggled by the shooters brother. As soon as the shooting happened they started looking for him and he was on the run to Alberta. Fishy as fuck.
11
u/DoYouGetSarcasm Jun 08 '26
I'm sure once a list of the firearms she used in the shooting is released that poly will squawk about it as loud as they can
9
u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 08 '26
I mean that’s what Poly does for every single shooting (and not a shooting cough cough the Ottawa stabbings.) The question comes down to will they fall under government deaf ears this time? I would have to say yes because the government is trying to memory hole this shooting as it’s looking like almost a Nova Scotia shooting situation where the shooter got some of the guns illegally I.e smuggled in and not just stolen from a legal licensed gun ownerX

Our incompetent minister Gary was on CJAD800 last month so I texted in and asked the host to ask him about it and what guns were used.
Gary said that the RCMP's investigation is still not complete so we still don't know... what a load of BS.

https://toronto.citynews.ca/2026/06/11/most-crime-guns-traced-by-rcmp-came-from-within-canada-internal-reports-say/ Well this source is accurate I would say what it's missing is severe context. Let's look at some of the numbers and wording.
" The vast majority of crime guns traced by the RCMP to identifiable sources in 2023 and 2024 came from within Canada and were not smuggled from abroad, say internal reports prepared by the national police force." So right away they are already laying out a very firm statement of most crime guns traced by the RCMP to identifiable sources in 2023 and 2024 came from within Canada. However think about the language they use for a minute in that sentence as it will be important later.
"In 2024, the RCMP centre completed 6,951 firearm traces. Of these, 4,197 were identified as crime guns — 2,814 of which had a known source." So of 6,951 seized firearms 4,197 were identified as crime guns and of that entire number if I am interpreting this right either only 67.04% of all those seized firearms traced had a known source or if it's saying that 2,814 number is for total firearm traces then it's 40.48% or not even half. Either way in both cases a sizeable percentage of firearms they are not able to get a identifiable source and on top of that this is just talking about firearms that were traced. Not total seizures of firearms. On top of THAT this is only RCMP data and doesn't account for provincial police tracing programs. So while this data does point out some interesting highlights you have to really read the fine print. Which a lot of people aren't going to.
"The centre reports that 71 per cent of those firearms traced in 2024 were domestically sourced long guns, 17 per cent were smuggled handguns, nine per cent were domestically sourced handguns and two per cent were smuggled long guns. A small number of firearms were not categorized as either long guns or handguns." This part is even less surprising especially for the long guns. As think about it this way. If you are a cop and you seize a long gun that still has a intact serial number that's going to be of interest to you. As there is a solid chance it could show up domestically and you are more willing to trace it as you might be able to with a bit of luck figure out who bought it from what store and you might be able to lay another charge. That would 100% get you some brownie points at work. Compared to a short barreled handgun that never was legal to be sold in Canada where unless you are doing a major investigation makes very little point in seizing. The long guns would be low hanging fruit to trace. What's most interesting however is the percentage of domestically sourced handguns. Which comes up depending on how one reads the data in this as the wording is strange (or I am just dumb.) is that there are anywhere between 626 at the high end to 254 at the low end domestically sourced handguns.
"Sixty-seven of the crime gun traces in 2024 turned up privately manufactured firearms, sometimes called homemade “ghost guns.” This was just a interesting bit of information to add. So 0.96% of all firearm seizures had a homemade gun. Which is wild as while I do say that homemade guns are fairly rare in Canada to be at nearly 1% is quite something.
"The reports point out that the analyses, which include only traces by the RCMP centre, are not representative of the total number of gun traces in Ontario and Quebec — provinces that have their own tracing agencies." Now this is the quote here that I think matters most. Some of the two most populated provinces in Canada which as of looking this up make up 61.43% of the Canadian population they don't trace that many guns in. So with that alone one could point out how this data is flawed and is not getting the big picture.
Now I can comment on more of this article but that would make this already long ramble longer so I am going to stop on this paragraph. What I will say is I find it funny how a supposed academic like Blake Brown is trying to shoe horn his way into this discussion with pretty much a glorified "Gotcha." moment.

Oh yea honestly I would not be surprised if a lot of the domestic seizures are shit such as. Low powered Air rifles, air pistols and airsoft guns to padd the stats. I would be curious to see how many of the firearms they seized are from stolen and lost firearms but I got a feeling a good chunk of those ‘crimes guns’ are like what you said. Teenagers with airsoft and pellet guns doing stupid shit.

A CTV hit progun control hit piece right after an amenesty extension? Sounds about right.

To be fair homemade guns only make up 0.96% of all total seized firearms. However they are most definitely padding the stats with low powered air rifles and pistols.

I don’t trust government stats anyway so whatever bs they publish doesn’t matter to me. Funny that this comes out after amnesty extension. Poly probably called their buddies in high places at media outlets and got these stories running.

CZ RANT
I’m going to be blunt: if you rage at individuals for turning guns in under the confiscation program, but you’re still willing to buy new CZ/Colt Canada products because they make cool guns, you’re scum and you’re a hypocrite.
Colt Canada, aka CZ, was tied to this mess to some extent. Exactly how much, and whether they still are, has been kept nice and muddy for the rest of us. But it was confirmed they were involved with the LPC enough that this became an issue in the first place, and that should be enough for anyone who claims to have principles.
So for gods sake spare people the lecture about some scumbag taking compensation, while you’re still financially supporting a company connected to the same system because you want a new toy. Is he right for turning his gun in like a rat? No, but buying CZ is JUST AS BAD.
The common CZ apologist copes are literally identical to the confiscation compliance copes.
Proof:
- “We’re already so limited, why limit ourselves more?”
Congratulations, you have a double-digit IQ. That is literally the point. A boycott is supposed to be inconvenient. That is what makes it a sacrifice.
Exhibit A: “The guns are already banned, so why not take the money?”
2.“CZ makes good products though.”
Yes. Correct. That is why having principles COSTS something.
Exhibit B: “I paid good money for these guns though.”
3.“Me not buying one won’t change anything.”
Funny how that excuse is cowardice when someone else says it, but suddenly practical realism when it protects your next purchase.
Exhibit C: “Me turning mine in won’t change anything.”
4.“I don’t want to punish myself over politics.”
That’s cool, but then stop pretending you’re taking some hardline stand by rejecting confiscation. You’re just folding at a different price point.
Exhibit D: “I don’t want to lose money by refusing to turn my restricted firearms in over politics.”
5.“There aren’t many good options left in Canada.”
Again, that is the point. The whole situation sucks. Principles matter MORE when the easy options are gone, not less. Read that out again if it didn't sink in.
Exhibit E: “There aren’t many legal options left for these banned guns.”
Honestly, hot take: it's not eventhe same, supporting CZ is worse. Why? Because refusing compensation meant eating a real loss on property you already own and may never legally use again. That's hard. But boycotting CZ just means not buying something.... that's...easy. You're telling me you can do one but not the other? Get fucked.
And if your response to this is to write any defence about why it’s actually fine to buy new CZ products, I want you to understand something: your attitude, not just the LPC’s attitude, and not just their boomer/urbanite voter base, is exactly why we are in this situation.
When people say Canada is a cucked country, they are talking about people like you. You fold under zero pressure.
4
u/TKB-059 bc Jun 16 '26
CZ makes good products though
Honestly, only the 457. Everything else eh at best, especially their handguns. I'd know, I have one. Cz600's are ass, Bren is whatever. Colt Canada can't even making fucking FN MAG's properly.
4
u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 16 '26
Out of curiosity though what’s the end goal for CZ boycott?
2
u/SlowDebate3165 Jun 17 '26
The goal? The point?
To not lick the boot on your own neck. To not financially support a company tied to the same confiscation system you claim to oppose.
The goal is the act.
Exhibit F: “What’s the goal of not participating in the buyback?” Same cope.
Refusing payment from the LPC was/is never going to reverse the OICs, stop future bans, or stop the confiscation. I hope you werent thinking that was the case lol. The delay was a best case scenario caused mainly by the court challenge. Why would the LPC care about making anyone with prohibs a paper criminal? It costs them nothing.
The original point of refusing to participate in the buyback was to not take part in your own humiliation. Same with boycotting CZ.
People who buy CZ on some level understand that principle. They just don’t like it when the sacrifice is not buying something they want. Because they're pathetic.
Sometimes the goal is simply not being part of the problem.
2
u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 17 '26
Not really. Their is a goal with not participating in the buyback. It’s to not legitimatize the buyback. That’s a tangible goal.
Yes you are right. The odds of the LPC backing down were low if not non existent. Also yea they are comfortable with making people paper criminals. However not partaking in the buyback does have the goal of not legitimatizing the buyback.
Okay but that’s not a tangible goal exactly.
2
u/SlowDebate3165 Jun 17 '26
If you buy CZ products while criticizing people for participating in the buyback, you’re a hypocrite.
The end.
→ More replies (4)1
u/22GageEnthusiast Jun 18 '26
To be fair there's not much to buy from CZ at this point anyways. Personally, I don't want any of their shotguns and the only gun I'd even be remotely interested in the future might be their 457 American rifle in the LH since there's not much available at the moment for left hand rimfire rifles.

In a more positive light I’m grateful the firearms community remains alive and well. Amazing to see the fight against these bans continue and we haven’t succumbed to becoming jaded
