First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

So this is interesting and I think it subverted everyone's exceptions as you can look at this glass half full glass half empty.

Con. The number of Pal holders still has not cracked quite 2.5 million in 2025. Pro the number of pal holders still went up and if you were going for the nearest 100,000 it would be appropriate to round to 2.5 million. Con the net increase declined from the previous year. Pro. The net increase is still a increase. Con. The percentage of adults with a gun license is still at 7.2%. Pro. The two biggest provinces have seen a increase in percentage of adults with a gun license. Ontario has cracked the 5% range and is now at 5.3% while Quebec is at 6.8% and PEI funnily enough has also cracked 5%. So no matter where you go in the country you are going to see at least 1/20 adults will have a PAL. Also another PRO every single province saw gains in the raw number of PAL holders in Canada. This is good as that doesn't mean there were loses that caused a decrease in percentage of adult PAL holders in Canada just that the population increased faster then new PAL holders came into existence. Personally I think the more interesting concern is "Why despite a gross increase of 140,718 new adults getting there PAL for the first time there was only a net increase of 46,555?" That means we lost 94,163 PAL holders. Could this mean more PAL holders are dying off? Leaving the country? Giving up on there PAL? This I think is the kind of questions we should be asking as a community.
